Hi,

the best way to do this would be to open a bug report on the default
icon theme:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-mono (mostly panel
icons and Ubuntu specific icons)
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/humanity-icon-theme (rest of
the icon theme)

And propose your change by attaching relevant screenshot and file
alongside the bug description.

David

Gnome DO comme lanceur d'application.

Ma prochaine installation sera probablement Xubuntu + Dolphin + Gnome DO.

http://cinnamon.linuxmint.com/

Pour l'installer:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cinnamon

[Ubuntu-QC] Fwd: [fsf-community-team] amazon deletes all of a user's ebooks, without satisfactory reasoning.

2012-10-23 Thread Fabian Rodriguez

You could try another speed test, such as this one on CNET UK.

It was not actually a speed test that I wanted, but to find out what

Re: xfce-cpufreq plugin and upgrades

2012-10-23 Thread Ralf Mardorf
IMO frequency scaling should be set to performance by the script to
start an audio session [1], resp. by the session manager.

That reminds me of the sh issue. By default it links to dash:
[spinymouse@archlinux ~]$ ls /run/media/spinymouse/qrc/bin/sh -l
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 Oct 13 22:24 /run/media/spinymouse/qrc/bin/sh
- dash

This can be reconfigured by sudo dpkg-reconfigure dash, I didn't do it
until now. Note that the shebang doesn't solve the issue, I need to
start the scripts with bash instead of sh (unimportant for the
example below, that should run in dash too, not tested).

However, default nowadays usually is a link to bash, Ubunbtu Studio IMO
should link to bash to, otherwise averaged modern scripts can't be
run using sh.

This is not a Studio issue, and in fact is not an issue at all. Ubuntu has long
ago defaulted to using dash as the system shell, but bash as the login shell.

I doubt this will be changed back, and you can read up on the reasons at [0].

Ubuntu Studio 12.10 Released

2012-10-23 Thread Scott Lavender
The Ubuntu Studio development team is proud to announce the release of
Ubuntu Studio 12.10.

From the release notes of Ubuntu Studio 12.10 Quantal Quetzal:

New Features in Ubuntu Studio 12.10

Ubuntu Studio is the Ubuntu flavour designed for content creation.

It’s produced as a DVD image that can also be converted to an USB
stick and includes support for most languages by default.

# UI AND APPLICATIONS

Improved Interface:
 * A new web page is out. The help button on the main menu points there.
 * Task Manager has been switched to System Monitor for better memory
use display.
 * A main menu tool has been added to setting to allow the user to
change their menu.
 * Add/fix text plymouth theme for those video cards that won’t see
graphics so it says Ubuntu studio.
 * Set up Software Center menu items for our workflows.
 * Fixed submenu icons for accessories, education and network.

New Software:
 * Xfce updated to version 4.10 (based off of Xubuntu)
 * Kernel (lowlatency) is now of version 3.5

Ubuntu Studio Applications:
 * The menu has been fixed moving audio production tools out of Media Playback.
 * A MIDI router and MIDI tools menu have been added.
 * Add qmidiroute to audio workflow to cover missing functionality
 * Added open-clip-art package to graphics seed
 * Move mixer applications from media playback menu to audio menu.
 * Nautilus is default file manager for everything now

# INSTALLATION NOTES

Installation:
Preparing your computer for Ubuntu Studio is now simpler, with a wider
range of disk setup options. Each of these are detailed at length to
provide you with a clear understanding of the actions that will take
place with your selection.

You can reinstall or upgrade an existing copy of Ubuntu Studio with
the Ubuntu Studio DVD installer, provided that your computer is
connected to the Internet.

Download Ubuntu Studio 12.10 images from:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntustudio/releases/12.10/release/

System Requirements:
The minimum memory requirement for Ubuntu Studio 12.10 is 768 MB of
memory. It is highly recommended that you have 2GB or more memory
though so that the system will perform much better. More information
about other recommended hardware on the new Ubuntu Studio website when
it is released.

Upgrading:
To upgrade from Ubuntu Studio 12.04, press Alt+F2 and type in
upgrade-manager(without the quotes) into the command box. Update
Manager should open up and display following message: New
distribution release ’12.10′ is available. Click Upgrade and follow
the on-screen instructions.

Since the upgrade does not include the new “photography” and
“publishing” metas, so if you want the photography and publishing
packages in your upgrade, please install them manually after upgrade
by typing sudo apt-get install ubuntustudio-meta-photography
ubuntustudio-meta-publishing in your terminal.

# KNOWN ISSUES

Drivers:
Proprietary drivers are now installed using software-properties-gtk
(Software Sources), under the tab “Additional Drivers”.

We have received reports that booting the Ubuntu installer in UEFI
mode from a USB disk on certain Samsung laptops (530U3C, NP700Z5C) may
trigger a firmware bug that renders the machine unbootable. While this
bug has not been confirmed to affect Ubuntu 12.10, users are advised
to use caution when installing on Samsung laptops and ensure that they
are configured for legacy BIOS mode, not UEFI mode. (1040557)

Kernel:
Haswell processor graphics is not fully supported. (1066975)
On some systems, when opening lid, there is a kerneloops with a
suspend/resume failure message seen. (1054732)
On certain ASUS machines with AMD graphic chips, a WMI event and ACPI
interrupt are sent at the same time when hitting the hotkey to change
display mode, resulting in the display mode being changed twice in
succession. Users can work around this using the Displays panel in
System Settings for changing display modes. (1052278)
On ASUS N53SN laptops, the kernel does not boot without noefi on
commandline. (1053897)

Networking:
In order to improve compatibility with other local nameserver
packages, NetworkManager now assigns IP address 127.0.1.1 to the local
nameserver process that it controls instead of 127.0.0.1. If the
system’s /etc/resolv.conf is absent or is a static file instead of the
symbolic link to ../run/resolvconf/resolv.conf installed by default
then this static file will have to be updated by the administrator in
order to continue using the NetworkManager-controlled nameserver.

Video Drivers:
Several video drivers are not functioning with some legacy chip-sets.

xserver-xorg-video-trident with some Trident Cyberblade chip-sets.
Black screen and lock-up. Bugs
xserver-xorg-video-intel with i810 chip-sets. Segfault. 1060492
xserver-xorg-video-sis with 315 series (SiS 315/E/PRO, 550, [M]650,
651, 740, [M]661[FMG]X,[M]741[GX]) chip-sets. Black screen or loops
around login screen. 1034812

Workarounds:
Test with a Live CD to see if your hardware is effected.

I believe the reasoning is that when upgrading to Quantal, one would get
all new additions, just as you would by doing a fresh install.

But, I think we should talk more about what we are expecting from an
upgrade. Since user files are not changed (and what else?), I don't know
if we can expect an upgrade to be similar or the same as a fresh
installation.
I haven't looked at how Ubuntu views upgrades. Would probably be good to
decide what an upgrade cannot do for us, and from there, what we would
like it to do for Ubuntu Studio.

Anyone is welcome to post ideas. The posts on this thread will later be
reviewed, and assembled into a list of work items we call blueprints.

Please post any ideas you have for improving Ubuntu Studio on this thread.
Doesn't need to be related to the topics above, or existing blueprints.

Some of the things that we would like to do in the future (not in any
 special order):

 * Write a comprehensive user documentation dealing with all of the various
multimedia workflows - audio, graphics, video, photography and publishing
 (underway)
 * Write developer documentation (underway)
 * Test system tweaks that improve performance for various workflows and
finding best ways to implement them (ongoing)
 * Develop a gui control application to adjust Ubuntu Studio system settings
 (replacement for the outdated ubuntustudio-controls)
 * Develop a workflow orientated panel
 * Improve/update Ubuntu Studio artwork
 * Research each of the workflows (audio, graphics, video, photography,
publishing), and make sure we have a relevant list of applications included
 on the live DVD (ongoing).

 - For reference, here are the blueprints for 12.10

able to provide this when 14.04 LTS releases.

Yes, and that is my reasoning exactly. When precise didn't have these
 metas,
what difference does it make for LTS-to-LTS upgrade, to have them in
 quantal?

I believe the reasoning is that when upgrading to Quantal, one would get
all new additions, just as you would by doing a fresh install.

But, I think we should talk more about what we are expecting from an
upgrade. Since user files are not changed (and what else?), I don't know
if we can expect an upgrade to be similar or the same as a fresh
 installation.
I haven't looked at how Ubuntu views upgrades. Would probably be good to
decide what an upgrade cannot do for us, and from there, what we would
like it to do for Ubuntu Studio.

An upgrade takes all the software on the machine and changes it over to
the same SW in the new version. this includes any new versions of the
metas. So whatever software is already installed seems to get updated,
including any the user installed after the original install. It does not
look at the seeds or add metas not already included. It also doesn't
uninstall SW the old metas may have installed that those metas no longer
include. So for example, 12.04 had the xfcetask-manager and 12.10 has the
gnome-system-monitor instead. An upgrade has both.

If the user has not changed their menu at all. Then the upgrade will have
a new menu. If they have used alacarte to change the menu, their changes
will be superimposed on top of the new menu which may or may not make
sense.

Panels... fun stuff here. I do not know the whole story on this :) but
assuming the same panel software, the panel will remain as before the
upgrade because at first login the system panel config is imported to the
users home directory. The upgrade from xfce4.8 to 4.10 seemed to deal with
any changes there should have been to these files to make them work with
the new version. (there were some because we had to change our config to
make it work)

So any changes we make to the panel from one cycle to the next will not
show up on the users panel with an upgrade. While we could force the
import of the new config, I am not sure we should. I think the user who
upgrades wants their desktop to remain pretty much the way it is.

When we had the alt ISO the user could choose to install only some of the
metas (they might choose not to install video and graphics for example)
and in that case would expect only the metas they had installed to be
upgraded. However if one of those metas changed they would expect those
changes to show up. From this POV we should add the photography meta and
not the publishing meta because 12.04 had that. Adding both would give as
close as possible the experience the live ISO provides.

I think, given the size of todays hard drives, the installed size is not
really an issue. The menu breaks everything up nicely and so a user can
ignore the workflows they are not interested in. At this point providing a
consistent product that doesn't confuse the user with missing parts may
make more sense.

In the end... the fresh install is always going to be the preferred
upgrade route. The best tested and thought out. Those who upgrade should
expect some differences. A production machine should probably not be
upgraded at all, but rather have a new drive added with the new version on
that so that any project started on the old system can be completed or
accessed as it was. If all projects can be imported to the new drive
without problems then the old drive would be free for other uses.

Just my thoughts.

Hi,

since I downloaded the latest version I have a white rectangle over the

If I put the mouse over the white space where I know a menu or control is

For a while it showed laptop as the system type and that took a bit of

I should also mention I've applied for the usual loco pack of

effectively distribute them in ways that will benefit the community

ubunubuntu-studio-us...@lists.ubuntu.com

 * The menu has been fixed moving audio production tools out of Media
Playback.

Bugs
xserver-xorg-video-intel

Yes, it might be just careful.
For anyone keen on a stable version (music making doesn't like bugs), it
might be preferable to wait until a new LTS version is out before upgrading.
Or, as someone just wrote on this list, try a 12.10 version on live-DVD
before upgrading.

Thanks to all who work on Ubuntu and ubuntu studio because it's a good
job anyway.

fazer ele funcionar tanto no Ubuntu 12.04 e no 12.10, pois atualizei o

http://linuxnomicro.blogspot.com.br/2011/05/no-ubuntu-11.html

http://linuxnomicro.blogspot.com.br/2012/03/modem-olivetti-olicard-155-no-ubuntu.html

Simplesmente, reconhece o dispositivo via lsusb Bus 001 Device 002:

Alguém instalou, queria ler opiniões a respeito?

arquivo mbox no menu: Arquivo Importar arquivo mbox.

Outlook Express (no Windows, caso você tenha no trabalho).

Qual a marca e modelo? O Ubuntu veio
instalado de fábrica ou o usuário instalou? Se instalou, foi difícil
instalar e configurar?

inspirado a perguntar.

Simplesmente, reconhece o dispositivo via lsusb Bus 001 Device 002:

Ver imagem do erro:
 http://imagebin.org/232700

Então o Bug é no Ubuntu

$ sudo apt-get install maas
$ sudo apt-get install maas-dhcp
$ sudo maas-import-isos

3. Reboot

4. Check the maas menu by running the command:

$ sudo cobbler profile list

5. It only shows:

profiles:
   maas-precise-i386
   maas-precise-i386-commissioning
   maas-precise-x86_64
   maas-precise-x86_64-commissioning
   precise-i386
   precise-i386-auto
   precise-x86_64
   precise-x86_64-auto

Root Cause:

After enabling the -x in the maas-import-isos, it gives the error below:

+ PARENT_PROFILE=quantal-i386
+ grep -qs maas-enlist
+ cobbler profile list
+ cobbler profile add --name=maas-enlist --parent=quantal-i386
--kopts=priority=critical locale=en_US netcfg/choose_interface=auto
log_host=10.232.36.101 log_port=514
--kickstart=/var/lib/cobbler/kickstarts/maas-enlist.preseed
profile quantal-i386 not found, inheritance not possible
+ grep -qs default
+ cobbler system list
+ cobbler system add --name=default --profile=maas-enlist
invalid profile name: maas-enlist
+ cobbler sync

Workaround:

Open the file /usr/sbin/maas-import-isos with your favourite editor, at
line 106, Where it says STABLE=$(distro-info --stable), change it to
precise

add_enlist_profile(){
STABLE=precise
DEVEL=$(distro-info --devel)

Run the command again, then the issue is resolved.

[Bug 1068365] Re: openvswitch gre tunnels not working in quantal

2012-10-23 Thread James Page
The dkms package was disabled as its not compatible with the 3.5 kernel;
this decision was taken under the assumption that the upstream kernel
module was feature comparable with the dkms provided kernel module.

As this appears not to be the case then we need to focus on:

1) Making the dkms package work again with the 3.5 kernel and re-introducing it
under SRU
2) Fixing the kernel openvswitch module to support gre.

This bug will potentially impact openstack installations using quantum
on quantal (its OK on precise which reflects Serge's finding).

[Bug 1066958] Re: DNS config is invalid after a node gets enlisted.

2012-10-23 Thread Andres Rodriguez
** Description changed:

After a node gets enlisted, its hostname is set to a generated address
based on its IP address (e.g. 192-168-10-10). When the DNS config gets
written, if the hostname is not changed to a custom value, the CNAME
record conflicts with a pre-populated A record for that IP:

  Content of /etc/bind/maas/zone.master
  IN NS master.
  master. IN A 192.168.10.1
  [...]
  192-168-10-10 IN A 192.168.10.10
  [...]
  192-168-10-10 IN CNAME 192-168-10-10

the records where generated_hostname(ip) == hostname are filtered out.

[Bug 1067929] Re: maas-region-celeryd connects to the wrong queue.

2012-10-23 Thread Andres Rodriguez
** Description changed:

  Symptoms

After install, the MAAS interface displays the following warning:

The region controller does not know whether any boot images have been
imported yet. If this message does not disappear in 5 minutes, there may
be a communication problem between the region worker process and the
region controller. Check the region worker's logs for signs that it was
unable to report to the MAAS API.

Even after 5 minutes and a reload, the the error persisted.

DNS configuration is also broken because of this problem.
-

  Root Cause
  ==

maas-region-celeryd connects to 2 queues: ' celery' and 'master'. The
problem is obviously the space in front of 'celery'

start_celery() should use something like that instead:
  command = [
  'celeryd',
  '--logfile=%s' % args.logfile,
  '--schedule=%s' % args.schedule,
  '--loglevel=INFO',
  '--beat',
  '--queues=celery,master',
  ]

  == TEST ==
- This fix has been tested on both canonistack and in the lenovo lab.
+ 1. Install maas
+ 2. run maas-import-pxe-files.
+ 3. make sure message about missing pxe files disappears after 5 mins.

[Bug 1068036] Re: postfix (precise) has lost the ability to lookup aliases in NIS

2012-10-23 Thread Clint Byrum
Hello Ernst, or anyone else affected,

Accepted postfix into quantal-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postfix/2.9.3-2ubuntu2.1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at

2012-10-23 Thread Thiago Martins
Hi!

After upgrading, I can't find that permission denied message again...

But, the dhcpd still gives two IPs for 1 MAC (only for my second node),
look:

I'll accept it now to see what will happen...

BTW, the DNS was recorded with IP 192.168.50.3 (192-168-50-3.teste.com)
!!! But the REAL IP of this node is 192.168.50.2.

Something is still wrong.

First node have IP 192.168.50.1 and DNS entry 192-168-50-1.teste.com.

Second node have IP 192.168.50.2 nd DNS entry 192-168-50-3.teste.com.

Cheers!

Thank you for the excellent feedback Thiago. I think we've got a
problem with the permanent host mapping on your DHCPD, which is odd
because I've not seen that happening before. I'll ask a few people for

I have a quantal/maas system that was displaying this message. I
upgraded to the version in -proposed (0.1+bzr1269+dfsg-0ubuntu1) and
waited 5 minutes. Unfortunately, the issue persists.

[Bug 1068365] Re: openvswitch gre tunnels not working in quantal

2012-10-23 Thread Ben Pfaff
The dkms package was disabled as its not compatible with the 3.5
kernel; this decision was taken under the assumption that the upstream
kernel module was feature comparable with the dkms provided kernel
module.

That's right, the Open vSwitch FAQ says:

Q: What features are not available in the Open vSwitch kernel datapath
that ships as part of the upstream Linux kernel?

A: The kernel module in upstream Linux 3.3 and later does not include
   the following features:

   - Bridge compatibility, that is, support for the ovs-brcompatd
daemon that (if you enable it) lets brctl and other Linux
bridge tools transparently work with Open vSwitch instead.

We do not expect bridge compatibility to ever be available in
upstream Linux. If you need bridge compatibility, use the
kernel module from the Open vSwitch distribution instead of the
 upstream Linux kernel module.

   - Tunnel virtual ports, that is, interfaces with type gre,
ipsec_gre, capwap. It is possible to create tunnels in
Linux and attach them to Open vSwitch as system devices.
However, they cannot be dynamically created through the OVSDB
protocol or set the tunnel ids as a flow action.

Work is in progress in adding these features to the upstream
Linux version of the Open vSwitch kernel module. For now, if
you need these features, use the kernel module from the Open
vSwitch distribution instead of the upstream Linux kernel
 module.

   - Patch virtual ports, that is, interfaces with type patch.
You can use Linux veth devices as a substitute.

We don't have any plans to add patch ports upstream.

2012-10-23 Thread Julian Edwards
 MAASAPINotFound: File not found

This is caused when the media files (in MEDIA_ROOT) have been removed
but the maas database entry is still referring to them. I presume
you're seeing it when using juju?

2012-10-23 Thread Julian Edwards
Also can you re-run the whole thing from scratch and while doing it run
tcpdump:

sudo tcpdump -nieth0 -w/tmp/dump.pcap -s0 arp or icmp or port 67 or port
68

(assuming eth0 is the right interface)

Please paste the output from tcpdump and the resulting leases file.
