[Bug 1924800] Re: Popup menu flickers on Firefox and Sway combo

2021-06-15 Thread Wouter Horré
I have pushed a package with the fix to a PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~wouterh/+archive/ubuntu/sway

Builds are still running, but updated packages should be available there
soon.

2021-06-15 Thread Wouter Horré
This is a debdiff that adds the backported fix for this bug available
here:

https://github.com/swaywm/sway/pull/6283

This builds successfully in pbuilder. I have installed the updated
package and I can confirm the flickering of firefox's popups is gone.

2021-06-14 Thread Wouter Horré
There's a backport of the fix to sway 1.5 here:
https://github.com/swaywm/sway/pull/6283

I'll look into publishing a patched packaged to my PPA later this week.
It's been a while since I did any ubuntu packaging, so it might take a
while to get it right.

I found most of the missing channels through Settings-Configure

[Bug 134477] Re: Nikon cameras need support in unusual_devs.h

2008-08-15 Thread Wouter Horré
@Huygens: the problem with this bug is that 'nikon camera's' is too
general. It is fixed for some camera/firmware combinations while others
still aren't working. If you are still experiencing the problem, the
best you can do is file a new bug for your exact camera model and
firmware version (e.g. Nikon D40 with firmware 1.11 needs support in
unusual_devs.h).

 Any help would be welcome.

[Bug 134477] Re: Nikon cameras need support in unusual_devs.h

2008-06-18 Thread Wouter Horré

@Ivan Panchenko
 A new firmware version, which is not directly specified how to handle, should
 be handled in the same way as the previous firmware version.

That's not true in the general case, since the firmware might be an
update to fix the incorrect behavior of the previous version with regard
to UMS.

[Bug 134477] Re: Nikon cameras need support in unusual_devs.h

2008-06-17 Thread Wouter Horré
As far as I know, the problem is fixed for:
* D40 with firmware version 1.10
* D40x with originial firmware version

The problem is not fixed for:
* D40 with firmware version 1.11

The problem is that every firmware with a non-standard USB Mass Storage
implementation needs support in unusual_devs.h, which means almost every
firmware nikon releases will have to be added to unusual_devs.h.
Conclusion: this bug will have to be reopened every time nikon releases
a new firmware.

I suggest the following:
* close this bug report with fix released (it really is for the problem
originally reported)
* open a new bug for each firmware that is not working (e.g. Nikon D40 with
firmware 1.11 needs support in unusual_devs.h)

That would clarify what works (as these bugs will get closed) and what
doesn't (the bugs that are still open).

just a suggestion...

[Bug 231116] Re: firefox 3 beta crashes on www.deredactie.be

2008-06-10 Thread Wouter Horré
I am able to reproduce the crash with:
* greasemonkey enabled, but no user scripts installed
* greasemonkey disabled through the icon in the status bar

I am unable to reproduce the crash with:
* greasemonkey disabled through the add-ons window

I will attach two backtraces of crashes:
* gdb-firefox.txt: crash with greasemonkey enabled, but no user scripts
installed
* gdb-firefox-nogreasemonkey.txt: crash with greasemonkey disabled through the
icon in the status bar

2008-05-30 Thread Wouter Horré
I don't have adblock or adblock+

The following add-ons are installed in my default profile:
* edit CSS
* Live HTTP Headers
* GreaseMonkey

Strange enough, I can't reproduce the crash anymore. This morning, it
was still reproducable. Maybe something has changed on www.deredactie.be
and the 'bug' is no longer triggered?

[Bug 228146] Re: Closing chat dialog in Psi closes the whole Psi

2008-05-29 Thread Wouter Horré
This is what worked for me:

First: remove hardy-backports from sources.list!

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install -d libqt4-core=4.3.4-0ubuntu3 libqt4-gui=4.3.4-0ubuntu3
libqt4-sql=4.3.4-0ubuntu3 libqt4-qt3support=4.3.4-0ubuntu3
 (get qt 4.3, download only as installation will fail anyway)
$ sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite
/var/cache/apt/archives/libqt4-core_4.3.4-0ubuntu3_i386.deb
 (force installation of qt 4.3 core)
$ sudo apt-get install libqt4-gui=4.3.4-0ubuntu3
 (try installation of qt 4.3 gui, installation fails, but it removes some
conflicts of qt 4.3 gui)
$ sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite
/var/cache/apt/archives/libqt4-gui_4.3.4-0ubuntu3_i386.deb
 (now force installation of qt 4.3 gui)
$ sudo apt-get autoremove
 (remove some packages that have now become obsolete, this also removes psi
on my computer, but we can reinstall it later)
$ sudo apt-get remove libqtcore4 libqtgui4
 (now remove the last bits of qt 4.4, this also removes lastfm on my
computer, we will reinstall it later)
$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall libqt4-core libqt4-gui
 (reinstall qt 4.3 core and gui, just to be sure)
$ sudo apt-get install libqt4-sql libqt4-qt3support psi lastfm
 (install qt 4.3 sql and qt3support, also reinstall psi and lastfm (you
mileage may vary))

[Bug 228146] Re: Closing chat dialog in Psi closes the whole Psi

2008-05-28 Thread Wouter Horré
According to the psi developers, these crashes are due to psi being
incompatible with qt 4.4. Thus, these crashes only appear if you have
hardy-backports enabled. Psi 0.12 will be compatible with qt 4.4 (the
SVN already is). So, your options are:

* live with the crashes and wait for psi 0.12 to be released
* disable hardy-backports (or put qt on hold) and downgrade qt to 4.3 (which
requires some manual dpkg commands with --force-overwrite ...)

[Bug 218202] Re: [hardy] numlockx does not turn num lock keyboard light on.

2008-05-21 Thread Wouter Horré
I see similar 'out of sync' behavior on two Kubuntu Hardy machines, both
updated from Gutsy. After a boot:
* the numlock LED is off
* the numpad is active

Pressing the numlock-button on the keyboard switches both: LED on,
numpad inactive...

I only have access to one of the machines at the moment, so the next remarks
may not be generally true, but I think they are:
* numlockx isn't installed
* after installing numlockx, the LED and numpad can be put in sync by executing
'numlock off'

Re: [Bug 134477] Re: Nikon cameras need support in unusual_devs.h

2008-05-07 Thread Wouter Horré
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a purist at all. I would also be happier
if this 'bug' (the kernel developers probably don't think it is a bug)
wasn't introduced in the kernel.

Why is this kernel in ubuntu? No idea, only the ubuntu kernel team can
answer that question for sure. An educated guess: probably every new
kernel release fixes more hardware problems than it creates. So a
newer kernel probably works on more computers... (this is just a
guess).

@ezechiel: As far as I can see, the coolpix 2000 is already in
unusual_devs.h since 30 Nov 2005 09:16:00.
See
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-2.6.25.y.git;a=commitdiff;h=17fa6e552f2fc6bb06af767b0abf9cb642e13404

Did you recently update your firmware? If not, then your problem is
probably not related to this bug...

[Bug 134477] Re: Nikon cameras need support in unusual_devs.h

2008-05-06 Thread Wouter Horré
@ezechiel: This bug is due to a change in the kernel. Since this change,
each usb mass storage device with behavior differing from the standard
has to be specified in unusual_devs.h. Other distributions with the same
kernel version normally suffer from the same problem.

[Bug 198757] Re: ftdi_sio device does not work correctly as a normal user

2008-04-02 Thread Wouter Horré
The device works correctly if used for a serial console.

uisp is indeed a firmware uploader and does not work without the correct
permissions on the /dev/bus/usb device.

I do not claim the workaround I described is the correct one. It should
probably be more fine grained and probably use the dialout group.

I have attached the udev.log file as requested (generated with the
workaround reverted).

[Bug 198757] [NEW] ftdi_sio device does not work correctly as a normal user

2008-03-05 Thread Wouter Horré
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

Some information about my system:
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=7.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=gutsy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 7.10

The version of udev installed:
$ apt-cache policy udev
udev:
  Installed: 113-0ubuntu17

Problem description:

I have an usb to rs-232 convertor with an FTDI chip (ftdi_sio kernel
module). With the standard permissions set by udev, this device is not
working correctly as a normal user.

For example, if I am trying to program a micaZ sensor node with uisp:

$ make micaz install,17 mib510,/dev/ttyUSB0
snip
installing micaz binary using mib510
uisp -dprog=mib510 -dserial=/dev/ttyUSB0 --wr_fuse_h=0xd9 -dpart=ATmega128
--wr_fuse_e=ff   --erase --upload if=build/micaz/main.srec.out-17 --verify
Firmware Version: .
Failed to enter programming mode.

When I issue the same command as root, everything works as expected:
$ sudo /home/wouterh/local/tos2/bin/uisp -dprog=mib510 -dserial=/dev/ttyUSB0
--wr_fuse_h=0xd9 -dpart=ATmega128  --wr_fuse_e=ff   --erase --upload

Firmware Version: 2.1
Atmel AVR ATmega128 is found.

Solution:

I have changed the following line in /etc/udev/rules.d/40-permissions.rules:
SUBSYSTEM==usb_device,MODE=0664
to
SUBSYSTEM==usb_device,GROUP=plugdev, MODE=0664

and restarted udev, and now everything is working as expected:
$ /home/wouterh/local/tos2/bin/uisp -dprog=mib510 -dserial=/dev/ttyUSB0
--wr_fuse_h=0xd9 -dpart=ATmega128  --wr_fuse_e=ff   --erase --upload

  It is good before developing your application to study gettext so your
 application can easily be translated. Without giving too much details, the
 process is not that difficult. Every string which should be translated,
 should be surrounded by the _() function, for example _('translate me').
 Afterwards I advise you to use a program such as poedit (sudo apt-get
 install poedit), which will extract all strings automatically for
 translation and allow you to translate your program in any language you
 want. The exact details are dependent of your programming language and out
 of scope for this mailing list. Probably you better.

If I understood correctly, Tim wants to help packaging existing
software. As far as I know debian package descriptions etc. should be
in English and there is no gettext there...

 Take a look at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/GettingStarted

  MOTU (Masters of the Universe) is the team of which you can become a member
 after some hard training, which packages all not officially supported
 packages. MOTU's are friendly people and you can ask for help in
 #ubuntu-motu on IRC with Pidgin. There was just an Ubuntu Developers Week of
 which the logs will be very useful to you:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDeveloperWeek

I know what MOTU are. The link I posted describes what you should do
if you want to help out with packaging for ubuntu, which is what I
think that Tim wants to do.

[Bug 158421] Re: randr screen rotation in gutsy release under KDE only

2008-01-17 Thread Wouter Horré
I experience exactly the same issue with the xserver-xorg-video-intel
driver, so it is probably not related to nvidia.

After I rotate the screen with xrandr kde still thinks the screen is WxH
instead of HxW. However, I can manually move windows into the area
unused by kde. I can also only move my mouse within the HxW area, so X
has actually rotated the screen correctly.

@gogh: I do think your problem is a duplicate of this bug. If kdesudo
is working as it should, it never accesses files in ~/.kde, but only
in /root/.kde. So mounting your home file system with root_squash
should not be an issue if kdesudo is working correctly.

kdesudo_1.1-0ubuntu5_i386.deb as posted in one of the comments to this

Bert,

[Ubuntu-be] ftp.belnet.be/pub

2007-11-12 Thread Wouter Horré
Beste ftp beheerder,

Voor de crash van de ftp-server was er een link aanwezig van
ftp.belnet.be/pub naar ftp.belnet.be.

 10.30 The last preparations were done: internet connections tested, seats
 for the presentation in the main hall set in place to welcome a maximum of
 75 interested people, in the kitchen some members of the computer club were
 preparing the snacks …

 10.50 The first 2 persons arrive at the Party; more then 2 hours before the
 official start of the party. They where immediately entertained when
 Knightwise came in to have a video interview with me. Chretien, the
 president of the Bitmappers, was also invited to join us in front of the

 12.00 The first Ubuntero's arrive, they promised to come early. At the

 Computer club members one with the Bitmappers logo. This way everybody
 could easily see the difference between a beginner and the more experienced
 Ubuntero's. This was a big success.

 12.30 The crowd now starts coming in by great numbers.

 13.00 Almost all seats are occupied, so the President of the Bitmappers
 asked me if I could already start my presentation Introduction into Linux
 and Ubuntu … it was due to be held at 14.00 …

 13.30 Despite it was my first presentation ever - and for a full house - I
 managed to keep my nerves under control, make some little jokes …

 14.00 Done … I even received a little applause. I went outside to have a
 drink and a smoke. Fabian told me there were already 100 persons at the
 party. Well above the maximum of 75 we predicted. The people were invited
 to bring their laptop or PC so we could help them with the installation. 23
 people did! Because we were well above our maximum capacity the 2 rooms
 with internet connection were filled with people.

 21 PC's and laptops were successfully installed. Only 2 went home without
 Ubuntu. People were amazed at how easy the installation went, that all
 their hardware was recognized immediately, that even their digital camera
 was recognized out-of-the-box … People gathered before the laptops and PC's
 which had Compiz and were impressed by the possibilities of Compiz-Fusion.

 16.30 A presentation about the live-CD, what you can do with it and how it
 can save your data

 16.45 A presentation about Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon, how to install software,
 look at the menu's, etc …

 17.00 The last presentation was given about the possibilities of
 Compiz-Fusion and what's new in Gutsy by Wesley Stessens. I would like to
 thank him for this because he had only one day to prepare his presentation.

 17.30 Now it's time to talk and have a drink, to exchange e-mails and to
 promise we would all come to the next release party. The public was
 enthusiastic and gave compliments to the Ubuntu-BE members who did a
 perfect job helping everyone

 19.00 The last participants left the room and went home or to the city for
 a drink. I, from my side, I was dead tired … went home and fell in a deep
 sleep, having nice dreams about what's coming next. Exiting times are
 arriving for Ubuntu.

[Bug 132245] Re: Error: /var/tmp/kdecache-privat is owned by uid 1000 instead of uid 0.

2007-10-19 Thread Wouter Horré
I also see these error messages. I suspect kdesudo does not completely
replace the KDE environment with an environment for root before calling
sudo. I think running a program with kdesudo should result in kde using
/var/tmp/kdecache-root and /tmp/ksocket-root instead of the once of the
user calling kdesudo.

Re: [Ubuntu-be] ReleaseActions - Volunteers needed

2007-10-16 Thread Wouter Horré
Hi,

 As a Student you can download ubuntu form:
 -The public ftp server from the kuleuven

ftp://ftp.kuleuven.net/mirror/ubuntu/releases
there's no gutsy yet

 -The public belnet ftp server

ftp://ftp.belnet.be/mirror/ubuntu.com/releases/gutsy

 -the public ftp server from ulyssis

As a ULYSSIS member, I can confirm that we don't mirror stuff already
available on the belnet/kuleuven mirrors.

 When you download from these servers it doesn't count.

It's true that the servers above are free from download quota on Kotnet.

Re: [Ubuntu-be] Website layout

2007-06-27 Thread Wouter Horré
I am not that familiar with the Drupal API [1], but my guess is that it should
be possible to write a drupal module that provides an interface to the
profile data (e.g. by outputting xml data instead of a page). This would be
similar to the way the rss module of drupal provides an RSS interface to the
content...

Another solution would be to access the drupal database directly and provide a
CI model that uses the drupal database... I also think it is rather
straightforward to reimplement the views of the map application as drupal
modules, but this limits the reusability, off course.

Wouter

 Nice.

 Do you have any pointers for useful information on
  - fetching Drupal profiles from the outside (a PHP script not running
 inside Drupal)
  - integrating new behavior and content type (the map, but also
 computer shops information with ACL, etc.)

 Obviously, this is to get an idea on what could be done to integrate a
 Drupal driven community site with a custom map application like ours.

Hi all,

On Thursday 17 May 2007 12:07:12 Wouter Horré wrote:

 support-points-map, I had the feeling we were reimplementing functionality
 that has been implemented a thousand times before... (no offense). We were
 implementing a profile system while, for instance, Drupal has a profile
 system that can be easily extended with new fields.

As an example, I have set up a proof-of-concept drupal 5.1 installation with a
simple custom user profile:
http://josua.homelinux.net:8080/drupal/user/register

It took me about 15 minutes (drupal installation not counted) and 0 lines of
php-code to set this up.

just my 2 cents
