[Bug 69931] Re: Crash NP_Shutdown
** Summary changed: - Firefox crash when login to gmail + Crash NP_Shutdown ** Description changed: + Firefox crash when login to gmail + + NP_Shutdown + Binary package hint: firefox After installing Kubuntu 6.10 firefox starts to crash when I log on to my gmail account. This only occurs in one of the installations I have. If I run firefox from the konsole I get the following output: $ firefox X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 168 Major opcode: 145 Minor opcode: 3 Resource id: 0x0 Failed to open device X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 168 Major opcode: 145 Minor opcode: 3 Resource id: 0x0 Failed to open device /bin/sh: /usr/bin/esd: not found The program 'Gecko' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'. (Details: serial 118 error_code 8 request_code 144 minor_code 3) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) [Bug 59620] Re: This ext2 filesystem has a rather strange layout (newer ext2/ext3)
Also, while dir_index doesn't cause libparted to fall over completely like resize_inode, it's not supported by the resize code. We probably need to make libparted at least tolerate resize_inode outside the resize code even if it can't deal with resizing it. ** Changed in: parted (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium = High Target: None = ubuntu-7.04 -- This ext2 filesystem has a rather strange layout (newer ext2/ext3) https://launchpad.net/bugs/59620 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 64395] Re: Update manager aborts on eclipse-platform-gcj when updating from Dapper to Edgy
This is probably caused by a bug in dh_nativejava where it adds the following snippet to postrm: if [ -x /usr/bin/rebuild-gcj-db ]; then /usr/bin/rebuild-gcj-db fi rebuild-gcj-db can exist on the file system due to the package being unpacked (but not configured) without it being usable, so dh_nativejava should probably have an || true there. doko, can you please get this fixed? -- Update manager aborts on eclipse-platform-gcj when updating from Dapper to Edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/64395 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 59620] Re: This ext2 filesystem has a rather strange layout (newer ext2/ext3)
The main offending feature is resize_inode. I spent a while the other day trying to beat support for this feature into libparted, but it's not easy work. I may get there, or I may not ... One thought I had was that perhaps partman could detect the presence of unsupported features and degrade to using resize2fs instead of libparted. This doesn't offer a progress bar in a way that we can sanely handle in partman, which isn't great, but it would be better than not being able to resize at all. ** Changed in: parted (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium Status: Unconfirmed = Confirmed -- This ext2 filesystem has a rather strange layout (newer ext2/ext3) https://launchpad.net/bugs/59620 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 49175] Re: dapper install freeze at loading kernel
Thanks for your comments. This does not appear to be a bug report as such. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise your question at http://launchpad.net/support or on the Ubuntu community forums at http://www.ubuntu.com/community/forums/ When asking for support, please include additional information, such as the information you would normally include in a typical bug report. In your case, the make and model of your CPU, motherboard, as well as any other information about the hardware (video card, sound card, etc) that you can provide. For example, you may also want to test and see if the regular Ubuntu LiveCD loads up fine, instead of the alternate install CD. Furthermore, you may also want to mention whether or not you tried checking the MD5 sums of the CD images you downloaded. Detailed instructions on how to verify and burn ISO images are available on the Ubuntu wiki under this address: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto I hope that this difficulty doesn't discourage you from trying Ubuntu on your computer, and I really hope that you overcome your problems! ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed = Rejected -- dapper install freeze at loading kernel https://launchpad.net/bugs/49175 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 49318] Re: Cannot load fglrx driver for ATI Radeon 9000
Actually, I meant to report this issue myself, because I consistently found issues with it: a) The fglrx kernel module is not loaded properly on bootup (has to be added to /etc/modules manually). b) The /usr/lib/libGL.so is usually symlinked to the wrong library (MESA rather than ATI). I'm not too sure about (b), since on a recent Edgy install I only had to do (a) to get proper 3D support, but only after a reboot (loading the fglrx module dymnamically didn't work for some weird reason; perhaps conflict with the open source ati/radeon driver? I don't know). Can someone confirm is the linux-restricted-modules package actually does set up the module auto-loading properly? If not, perhaps that should be added to the postinstall script and the end-user be prompted to reboot? -- Cannot load fglrx driver for ATI Radeon 9000 https://launchpad.net/bugs/49318 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 18362] Re: ndiswrapper usb dongle freezes X
I have Edgy on my Dell Latitude CPx and am using a D-Link DWL-G132 rev A3 (P/N EWLG132EU.A3G), downloaded the latest drivers from the D-Link support site for the A3 rev. (DriverVer 05/08/2006,1.5.202.2) To make my life easier I installed Gnome Network Manager on the system. If I install the driver using ndiswrapper -i neta5agu.inf and then do a modprobe ndiswrapper the machine hangs after about 2 seconds. What I have noticed is that when you disable DBus (/etc/init.d/dbus stop) and do the modprobe, you can continue working normally, however since Network Manager is not working there is nothing being done to the newly created wlan0 device. When I start wpa_supplicant (which is what Network Manager does in the background) on/with the wlan0 interface, the machine instantly hangs, without any kernel/syslog messages. iwlist wlan0 scan works. To get my system up and running I tried using the commercial product driverloader from linuxant, it works with the driver, but with the limitation of not being able to use WPA or WPA2. [Bug 75413] usplash doesn't delete image buffers
Public bug reported: Hello, I'm using feisty now, but the problem was present in edgy too. The problem is that when usplash has to draw something new (or to delete something) it does not clean the video buffer in which framebuffer images are put. I will give some example because I can't explain very well. 1) after grub, when usplash loads there is a little time in which I can see the bios logo ASUS scrambled. 2) in the moment when usplash gives the control to Xorg, I see the ubuntu logo and the progress bar with some horizontal blue dotted lines 3) during the reboot there are some flashes ** Affects: usplash (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- usplash doesn't delete image buffers https://launchpad.net/bugs/75413 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 53728] Re: Cannot load ath_pci from madwifi
Here's a possible workaround suggested by Anita from bug # 53489 (marked as duplicate of this bug). --- I solved this by using madwifi-old. I think the problem I am having is due to the wifi router (using the one of an upstairs neighbor with his approval, but don't know what chipset it has) using agere/orinoco: See http://madwifi.org/ticket/698. I think this is why some see a problem and some do not. So to use the madwifi-old: 1. install the sharutils and the build-essential packages 2. uninstall the restricted-modules package 3. Get old madwifi http://snapshots.madwifi.org/madwifi-old-current.tar.gz 4. untar, make, sudo make install 5. Check to make sure old modules are not loaded and remove if they are. 6. sudo modprobe ath_pci 7. sudo dhclient ath0 This gets my connection as before in Dapper. Also, when I reboot, the connection is there automatically. [Bug 30965] Re: cupsd pushes the pedal to 99% when restarting
In Feisty (CUPS 1.2.7) the 100% CPU problem disappears, probably due to the following fix: http://www.cups.org/str.php?L1994 The problem of cups-polld running as root and therefore not taken down when cupsys is stopped still persists. I recommend to expand the cupsys run-as-user patch to also let the sub-daemons (cups-polld and cups-lpd) drop their privileges as soon as possible. This way CUPS can kill these daemons and as a side effect the security of these daemons is improved. ** Changed in: cupsys (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed = Confirmed ** Summary changed: - cupsd pushes the pedal to 99% when restarting + cupsd takes 99% CPU when BrowsePoll is used, cups-polld not taken down when CUPS is stopped -- cupsd takes 99% CPU when BrowsePoll is used, cups-polld not taken down when CUPS is stopped https://launchpad.net/bugs/30965 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
