[Bug 391458] [NEW] Download tool partially hangs when space on harddisk runs out.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox-3.0 My harddisk was almost full and I downloaded a file that exceeded the capacity my harddisk could hold. When this happened, a dialogue came up telling me about critical lack of space. I deleted the partially downloaded file, and the download window's progress bars just hung even afterward. Yet I could download other files easily, but the progress bar was just frozen. Specks: Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 3.0 Package I expected the large download to cancel itself or let me cancel it, but it just hung. [Bug 391457] [NEW] Kopete missing AIM Group Chat support
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kopete Kopete claims to support AIM group chats and has done so seemingly for quite a while. However, on Ubuntu Jaunty (Kopete 0.70.2) on my Thinkpad T61, none of the AIM group chat features work. When others attempt to invite me to a chat, they get a message saying Unable to send message: Not supported by client and it silently fails on my end, even when run from a terminal. I can't even view existing group chats, nor can I attempt to start them via the methods mentioned in the docs: dragging user icons into the Participant dialog or via the (completely missing) Chat-Invite menu option. [Bug 256637] Re: ata3: COMRESET failed (errno=-16)
Noticed that this had gone quiet but it's the error I now get. I had this problem with 2.6.28-13-generic on 9.04. My symptom was this: I would get the COMRESET message that everyone else gets, then the filesystem(ext3) would be automatically remounted as read-only. Eventually it wouldn't mount, citing bad superblock. It worked under a previous kernel(the last RT) but switching back to that kernel didn't help either. Since I didn't have any more time to throw at this, I did the quick-fix: edit /boot/grub/menu.lst find the kernel line of the in-use kernel. add noapic nosmp to the end of the line. Save, restart, pray. Hope this helps someone. Not sure if smp and apic really boost the speed of a system in the way that anyone would notice, though. -- ata3: COMRESET failed (errno=-16) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/256637 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 391478] [NEW] 2.6.30-10 kernel drops to busybox
Public bug reported: This has many chances to be a duplicate of bug 391245 but I'm reporting separately since it's not sure. bug 391245 has been reproduced with a karmic installation on a USB key, while my bug can be reproduced with the internal hard drive of the laptop. I just installed 2.6.30-10 kernel and my laptop now drop to busybox at boot. 2.6.30-9 kernel still works fine. If I boot without splash and quiet, linux seems to initialize correctly and it suddenly echo many time the same line : sleep: invalid number '0.1' It then says : Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems : (see screenshot) It also says : ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/f17... does not exist! Dropping to a shell. However if I do a ls /dev/disk/by-uuid, the uuid is there, it exist and there is no difference in the file name. Re: [Bug 200868] Re: nvidia-settings doesn't have permissions to write xorg.conf
Again, if you have a BETTER solution, then implement it. Don't just talk about it. Otherwise I'll keep advising people to do what works I'd have to agree with this comment, Ubuntu is (or should be) all about the human needs, not the proper thing to do (which seems to take enough time to be implemented). Hacks are not fixes. Also, is this program even installed by default? Paper cuts are only for things installed by default. I don't know about that, but the papercut specifications include these: https://launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts a) - bugs that impact standard workflows (like connecting to the network, copying files, browsing folders, etc.), rather than specialised or corner case workflows It is a standard workflow, people install the nvidia driver all the time. Even though nvidia-settings is in universe, nvidia-settings _is suggested_ by System Preferences Display: It appears that your graphics driver does not support the necessary extensions to use this tool. Do you want to use your graphics driver vendor's tool instead? (which opens up nvidia-settings) b) - bugs that are easy to address, rather that ones that require significant design or development efforts I don't know and probably will not be the judge of this one, but if the PolicyKit seems hard, there is the alternative issue of applying a mere workaround for the time being, using gksu in the menu item. c) - bugs that relate to usability and design (like size of the notification bubbles), rather than broken software (e.g. notifications flickering in fullscreen) It is highly related to usability. I would say just making a full GUI app run as root is enough of a bug to not implement this 'fix'. That's a bug *everyone* could live with, until the proper fix comes out. You are certainly welcome to advise them of your workaround for this bug. I just don't believe such a thing should be added to the package. I have posted this as a papercut because it just is and there is an easy solution (at least one of the available ones). If we implement the gksu usage as an easy temporary solution, people will have less to think about while fixing up their resolution issues. This way, the developer would not be rushed into making a fix and would make a properly defined fix with the PolicyKit patch. Right now, I see an easy workaround, which you don't want to implement just because it's not proper, and a hard one, which will probably take time to be implemented. It is a papercut issue to me and probably (IMHO) some other people trying to help out their fellow humans how to install their driver properly. -- nvidia-settings doesn't have permissions to write xorg.conf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200868 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 370422] Re: package postgresql 8.3.7-0ubuntu8.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
I bet the postgres system user is not in the ssl-cert group any more for some reason. What's the output of id postgres ? If ssl-cert is not there, it's a duplicate of bug 382584, but really I don't have an idea what goes wrong there. When postgres is created, it is put into ssl-cert. -- package postgresql 8.3.7-0ubuntu8.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370422 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Did you happen to use the GNOME users and groups tool a lot in the past? This has been known to cause breakage in the user/group database. To fix it for you, please do sudo adduser postgres ssl-cert. -- package postgresql 8.3.7-0ubuntu8.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370422 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
