Re: [Bug 399492] Re: Feature request : Possible improvements for notifications

2009-08-02 Thread Scott Howard
I'm just working on the strings and not touching the icons yet. This
is because the strings patch will go upstream and the icons/notify-osd
patch should be done within Ubuntu. I'm getting close to finishing it
and sending it upstream.

Ubuntu used to have it's own notify-osd patch, but Martin Pitt has
disabled the notify-osd patch for GPM
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/406396)
since upstream has changed how they handle notifications.

The notify-osd patch needs to be rewritten, see bug #406396. Would
either of you be able to work on that side of it? I took a stab at it
here: bug 390669, but that patch was written against 2.27.1, I updated
it to 2.27.2, and soon we will have 2.27.3.

On Sun, Aug 2, 2009 at 4:07 PM, Steve Dodiersidnio...@gmail.com wrote:

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

 Hello,

I'm writing this feature request because I believe power notifications can be
greatly improved by being simplified to the strict necessary.

I began a discussion about this subject, that you can find on the Ayatana ML
 ( https://lists.launchpad.net/ayatana/msg00146.html ), and I ended up
drafting new triggered and non-triggered notifications, as follows (preview
 of the result here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkdaiXXcv8w ) :

 Icon info
 Title Power information
Body Computer is running on battery power
Laptop battery 1 hour 45 minutes remaining (72.0%)

 Becomes

 Icon notification-battery-070
 Title 1:45 hours remaining

I'll include a file (the shell script used for the video above) with many
more examples, and proposals of improvement for the battery low
notifications too. The icons are created and uploaded into the Human icon
theme. If needed, they can be put in notify-osd. They basically convey the %
left and plugged / not plugged information to make the text part lighter
(images can hold much more meaning than words in some cases).

Obviously I think this is implementable only as an Ubuntu patch (at least
till the notification-* icons get some recognition outside of notify-osd /
ubuntu), but I still think it's worth a try as it makes notifications
 _really_ easier to read.

Voilà. If you need any other information about this feature request, please
let me know ASAP. I really hope this can be done for Karmic.

[Bug 379462] Re: tray icon plugin makes quodlibet window steal focus

2009-08-02 Thread yasuo
Confirmed.

Appart from the 'random' occurrences of this problem I noticed a
possible trigger. When Deluge is finished dowloading a Torrent, the tray
icon blinks. This leads to Quod Libet stealing focus every second (i
guess related to the blinking) until I focus Deluge letting it know I
got the info (download finished). After that, the focus stealing stops.

Do you think that you could produce a patch for the postrm maintainer

yes, then please attach them both to this bug report and I can point the
right people to this bug to merge your patches.

[Bug 408104] [NEW] Blank screen and unresponisve after sleep

2009-08-02 Thread GrahamR
Public bug reported:

Release Ubuntu 9.04
Desktop MB K7S5A AMD Athlon XP 1800 1GB DDR RAM
Graphics card uses NVidia GEForce 6200 chipset and runs recommended version 180
driver.
Airlink101 PCI 802.11g adapter with Realtek Chipset (not working/configured -
but that may be just me - the hardware does show up with iwconfig).
SATA with Ultra ATA PCI combo card (the problem occurs with or without this
installed)

Under PreferencesScreensaverPowerMangement I selected to put the
computer to sleep after 1 hour of inactivity.

The computer does shutdown as expected after inactivity.

To bring the computer back to life I need to press the power button on
the front of the case. The computer appears to go through a normal boot
sequence and then gets to an Ubuntu screen where it says something like
waking up at the bottom of the screen with an Ubuntu logo displayed.
It does this for a while and then the screen goes blank and nothing I
can think of to do will restore the display. The PC is powered up as CD
drawers will open etc., but I can't be sure what state the OS is in at
this point. Leaving it for an hour or more results in no change - and it
does not resume the sleep mode.

I'd be happy to send any logs etc. if you can tell me what you need and
how to get it. (I am relatively new to Ubuntu but I like what I see so
far).

[Bug 408108] [NEW] [needs-packaging] backport PCI Stub driver into Jaunty kernels

2009-08-02 Thread jiribb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image

Please backport PCI Stub driver which first first appeared in 2.6.29 -
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=c70e0d9dfef3d826c8ae4f7544acc53887cb161d
- so we can assign PCI devices into virtual machines in KVM. Description
for assigning PCI devices into KVM is at http://www.linux-kvm.org/page
/How_to_assign_devices_with_VT-d_in_KVM.

I personally build pci-stub.ko from vanilla kernel with this Makefile
but it would be nice to have it in generic Jaunty kernel.

Makefile for building pci-stub.ko:

obj-m += pci-stub.o

all:
make -C /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build M=$(PWD) modules

clean:
make -C /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build M=$(PWD) clean

URL:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=blob_plain;f=drivers/pci/pci-stub.c;h=74fbec0bf6cb50cc58fa22e96b18be434b1e2a1f
License: GPL
Notes: pci-stub.c can be built OK with Jaunty kernel (2.6.28-15-generic).

[Bug 408107] [NEW] Add or Remove programs should be more accessible from the Kickoff Application Luncher

[Bug 215604] Re: Genesys Logic Webcam 05e3:0503 Not Working

2009-08-02 Thread Nol
The latest GSPCA version is OK with 2.6.31-3.
I made a first submission to the GSPCA (webcam driver framework upsteam)
maintainer who in turn report several things to change in the driver. I made
the changes and this proof of concept driver seems to be OK with the two
sensors that were tested. I still need to change one thing in the driver and
once done request for final tests for all 4 managed sensors. Then the driver
will be submitted again.

The page http://gl860.sourceforge.net/ is no more up to date. The driver
includes the detection of the sensor, however I think it needs to be
improved although no issue has been reported about a wrong detected
sensor. As far as I know only one tester is able to do that and he is in
vacation for several weeks.

[Bug 94366] Re: X-Tension XK-200 Multimedia Keyboard: Media Player key wrong

2009-08-02 Thread Martin Pitt
Is there a way to trace the whole sequence done during boot-up?

Something like this. udevadm test /devices/.../ (the sysfs path) will
show the matches and commands run.

Unfortunately the original lsinput/ udev dump logs don't match your
current USB setup any more (event7/event8), so I had to guess. But the
only other MOSART device is the mouse part of that device, so I
guessed it wouldn't be that. Just to cover all cases, does this work?

   ENV{ID_VENDOR}==MOSART_Semi., ENV{ID_MODEL_ID}==0102,
ID_CLASS==mouse, RUN=+keymap $name usb-mosart-0102

if not, does this?

ENV{ID_VENDOR}==MOSART_Semi., ENV{ID_MODEL_ID}==0102, RUN=+keymap
$name usb-mosart-0102

BTW, you don't really need to reboot after changing the rule. Either
just unplug/replug the keyboard, or do

  sudo udevadm trigger --subsystem-match=input

[Bug 408077] Re: nvida Xorg binary drivers conflict with oss ati driver

2009-08-02 Thread David Pottage
I know that the nvidia GL libaries conflict with the system ones.

My point is, that the power of the debian packaging system should sort
that out for me automatically by having an explicit conflict set so that
when I install the ATI driver the nvida one is automatically purged.
That is how conficts are supposed to work in debian packaging.

What I don't want to do is spend an hour investigating when it could be
done automatically, and I don't want the next person who swaps out an
nvida card for an ATI one to go through the same pain either.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 317948 ***

hi Marlon,
i disagree about its being a duplicate of the gnome-terminal case
first, i don't use gnome terminal, i use a mac where copy isn't ctrl-c (it's
cmd-c)
besides, i tried several clients (see the notes i added) and the problem can
be reproduced on each
if you look through my notes you'll see that what changed it was switching
to csh from bash
(one funny thing: the problem sometimes go away, but returns after a reboot)
could you keep it a separate case?
many thanks

[Bug 408113] [NEW] 9.04 install with RAID fails to debootstrap

[Bug 354617] Re: (jaunty) kde4.2.2 slow moving to trash

I'm a gnome user. However I have been using dolphin

afflicts dolphin under gnome, but does not afflict the
native gnome file browser which moves to trash almost
instantly. I've therefore decided to give up on dolphin as
waiting for five minutes to delete a file is annoyingly stupid
and puts me in a bad mood.

Another workaround for all you KDE people is to switch to
gnome. (expect priority to become high after that comment)

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2009-08-02 Thread Rick vG
Wouldn't it make sense to use a triple click for it? A single click to
select the file, a double click to open it (or nothing when clicking on
the name label), and a triple click to rename it. Triple clicks is a lot
of clicks, and nobody does it without intending to edit it.

When I click on a file in Windows to rename I just click 'frantically'
on the label until I can it. To me, the behavior in Windows is a bit
random (could be due to poor mouse aiming). Triple click would work
great for me personally, but I don't know if I'm the only one who
renames his files that way.

[Bug 408118] [NEW] Removing kubuntu-desktop leaves all (automatically install) dependencies installed

2009-08-02 Thread Liam O'Reilly
Public bug reported:

Starting with an Ubuntu system you install kubuntu-dekstop, e.g., using
the command

sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop

you then try out kde and decide you wish to uninstall it, so you try
removing what you installed, i.e., you use the command

sudo aptitude remove kubuntu-desktop

or even maybe a purge command, i.e.,

sudo aptitude purge kubuntu-desktop

You would expect that the system returns to the same state ( as in the
same installed packages) as before you ran the install command. Instead
however only the meta package kubunut-dektop is removed, all the
automatically installed dependencies of kubuntu-desktop remain.

kubunut-desktop is a convent way to install Kubuntu from a standard
Ubuntu installation. It should also be a convenient way to remove
Kubuntu and revert back to Ubuntu.

To reproduce this problem start with a fresh install of ubuntu, issue the
command
sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop
then
sudo aptitude remove kubuntu-desktop
notice that only the single meta package kubunut-desktop is removed and all the
dependencies remain.

I am using Ubuntu 9.04 64 bit version with kubuntu-dektop package
version 1.122.

[Bug 328717] Re: Rcov fails at the end with NoMethodError

2009-08-02 Thread Aaron Bedra
I am now the maintainer of RCov going forward. I have completely
removed all of the rexml output formatter garbage since it was
completely unnecessary. This problem should not exist anymore. The
only catch is that you need to install the relevance-rcov gem

gem install relevance-rcov -s http://gems.github.com

The rubyforge version is not up to date and no one has been able to
contact the original creator to get him to release the project.

Hope this helps,

Aaron

[Bug 408119] [NEW] Please update for new upstream version (6.5.4-7)

2009-08-02 Thread Dylan McCall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: imagemagick

There is a new version of ImageMagick upstream. This version adds many
features, for example a blur option for the composite operator. This
option is now referenced fairly often but does not work for Ubuntu users
because the version here is out of date.

The latest stable version of ImageMagick is 6.5.4-7, which can of course
be downloaded from http://imagemagick.org/script/download.php

Debian is also out of date in this case, although sid at least has
6.5.1.0.

Re: [Bug 375593] Re: cannot browse samba shares without editing smb.conf

2009-08-02 Thread Chris Wiesner
Hello Martin,
I've had some time to play with this. The code gksu... worked well. It
prompted me for my admin password, and I was able to make the necessary
changes, albeit not the ones recommended in the forum..

I used, the following instead:
name resolve order = lmhosts wins bcast host

I also changed the workgroup name to that of my local area workgroup. Will
do some more to see which paramater actually made it work.. :) and will keep
you informed.

Regards,
Chris

Status in “samba” package in Ubuntu: Invalid

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: samba

I maintain 2 networks with mixed ubuntu / Windows XP SP2 machines and this
problem started suddenly in September of 2008. All of my Ubuntu machines
whether they are clean installs of 8.04 or 8.10 or 9.04, 32 or 64 bit or
upgrades from earlier versions all exhibit the failure to display or browse
smb shares. The only fix is to edit etc/samba/smb.conf:
 # What naming service and in what order should we use to resolve host names
 # to IP addresses
; name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast

remove the leading ; from the name resolve order line and change the order
 of the entries to read:
name resolve order = lmhosts wins bcast host

Save the file, log off and back on.

This change fixes the problem for all my machine in both networks.
The problem remains unresolved in Jaunty unless I do this. This problem
appeared suddenly in September of 2008 on 8.04 machines that had been
working normally and has persisted through 8.10 and now 9.04.

Clicking on the Places Network to bring up the network browse gui will
take a fairly long time to appear and it will not display any of the
machines on the network, whether Ubuntu or Windows XP. It may display an
icon for Windows Network, but if that is clicked, the system times out
with nothing displayed after about 60 seconds.

This happens on all machines whether clean installs or upgrades with 8.04,
8.10 and 9.04, both 32 And 64 bit. IT also does not matter if the Ubuntu
machines are static IP or DHCP.

After editing the smb.conf file as noted above, the network gui works
quickly and as expected displays all shares on all Windows XP and Ubuntu
 machines on the local network.

Additional info: until I found the fix noted here, I installed the kde 3.x
network browser. I forget the name of the package, but that worked
instantly. Once I got gnome working, I uninstalled it. I have not had to
do this on the new 9.04 installs, I just edit smb.conf and everything works
 as expected.

[Bug 408127] [NEW] [Karmic] In KMS mode cannot get EDID from external monitor

2009-08-02 Thread SqUe
Public bug reported:

I have a macbook2,1 with intel 945 graphic chipset and an external monitor
Samsung SyncMaster 174T.
In jaunty the monitor was detected perfectly with proper name and modes. In
karmic if the KMS is enabled it shows up as UNKNOWN monitor and the supported
modes have nothing to do with reality. The monitor is capable for 1280x1...@60
however with KMS enabled xrandr gives resolutions like 1360x...@84. At the same
time /var/log/messages is filled with messages like this:
[ 159.060650] i2c-adapter i2c-3: unable to read EDID block.
[ 159.060653] i915 :00:02.0: DVI-D-1: no EDID data
When the KMS is disabled xrandr is properly detecting monitor name and modes.

I am also attaching verbose xrandr output, with KMS enabled and without.

[Bug 377652] Re: please merge unison 2.27.57-2 (universe) from debian unstable (main)

2009-08-02 Thread Andrea Veri
it seems you forgot to add some remaining changes:
- Maintainer set to the MOTU team
- a patch added on the 00list (change-logfile-location) which contains the
change made to the trace.ml file.

When you do a merge you should *alwais* look at the diff you generate. Every
change you report on the changelog should be visible on the diff you provide.
So don't just copy/paste the previous merge entry that got added but step by
step think about what changes you see in the diff and what your changelog entry
reports instead.
Unsubscribing u-u-s until you fix this.

** Changed in: unison (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed = Incomplete
