Re: [Bug 399492] Re: Feature request : Possible improvements for notifications
I'm just working on the strings and not touching the icons yet. This is because the strings patch will go upstream and the icons/notify-osd patch should be done within Ubuntu. I'm getting close to finishing it and sending it upstream. Ubuntu used to have it's own notify-osd patch, but Martin Pitt has disabled the notify-osd patch for GPM (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/406396) since upstream has changed how they handle notifications. The notify-osd patch needs to be rewritten, see bug #406396. Would either of you be able to work on that side of it? I took a stab at it here: bug 390669, but that patch was written against 2.27.1, I updated it to 2.27.2, and soon we will have 2.27.3. On Sun, Aug 2, 2009 at 4:07 PM, Steve Dodiersidnio...@gmail.com wrote: @Mac Scott is writing a first patch without the notification-* icons for inclusion upstream. The problem with brightness notifications comes from global breakage of the new g-p-m :P -- Feature request : Possible improvements for notifications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/399492 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. Status in Gnome Powermanager: Confirmed Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager Hello, I'm writing this feature request because I believe power notifications can be greatly improved by being simplified to the strict necessary. I began a discussion about this subject, that you can find on the Ayatana ML ( https://lists.launchpad.net/ayatana/msg00146.html ), and I ended up drafting new triggered and non-triggered notifications, as follows (preview of the result here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkdaiXXcv8w ) : Icon info Title Power information Body Computer is running on battery power Laptop battery 1 hour 45 minutes remaining (72.0%) Becomes Icon notification-battery-070 Title 1:45 hours remaining I'll include a file (the shell script used for the video above) with many more examples, and proposals of improvement for the battery low notifications too. The icons are created and uploaded into the Human icon theme. If needed, they can be put in notify-osd. They basically convey the % left and plugged / not plugged information to make the text part lighter (images can hold much more meaning than words in some cases). Obviously I think this is implementable only as an Ubuntu patch (at least till the notification-* icons get some recognition outside of notify-osd / ubuntu), but I still think it's worth a try as it makes notifications _really_ easier to read. Voilà. If you need any other information about this feature request, please let me know ASAP. It does this for a while and then the screen goes blank and nothing I can think of to do will restore the display. The PC is powered up as CD drawers will open etc., but I can't be sure what state the OS is in at this point. [Bug 215604] Re: Genesys Logic Webcam 05e3:0503 Not Working
The latest GSPCA version is OK with 2.6.31-3. I made a first submission to the GSPCA (webcam driver framework upsteam) maintainer who in turn report several things to change in the driver. I made the changes and this proof of concept driver seems to be OK with the two sensors that were tested. I still need to change one thing in the driver and once done request for final tests for all 4 managed sensors. Then the driver will be submitted again. The page http://gl860.sourceforge.net/ is no more up to date. The driver includes the detection of the sensor, however I think it needs to be improved although no issue has been reported about a wrong detected sensor. [Bug 94366] Re: X-Tension XK-200 Multimedia Keyboard: Media Player key wrong
Is there a way to trace the whole sequence done during boot-up? Something like this. udevadm test /devices/.../ (the sysfs path) will show the matches and commands run. Unfortunately the original lsinput/ udev dump logs don't match your current USB setup any more (event7/event8), so I had to guess. But the only other MOSART device is the mouse part of that device, so I guessed it wouldn't be that. Just to cover all cases, does this work? ENV{ID_VENDOR}==MOSART_Semi., ENV{ID_MODEL_ID}==0102, ID_CLASS==mouse, RUN=+keymap $name usb-mosart-0102 if not, does this? ENV{ID_VENDOR}==MOSART_Semi., ENV{ID_MODEL_ID}==0102, RUN=+keymap $name usb-mosart-0102 BTW, you don't really need to reboot after changing the rule. [Bug 408077] Re: nvida Xorg binary drivers conflict with oss ati driver
I know that the nvidia GL libaries conflict with the system ones. My point is, that the power of the debian packaging system should sort that out for me automatically by having an explicit conflict set so that when I install the ATI driver the nvida one is automatically purged. That is how conficts are supposed to work in debian packaging. [Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file
Wouldn't it make sense to use a triple click for it? A single click to select the file, a double click to open it (or nothing when clicking on the name label), and a triple click to rename it. Triple clicks is a lot of clicks, and nobody does it without intending to edit it. When I click on a file in Windows to rename I just click 'frantically' on the label until I can it. To me, the behavior in Windows is a bit random (could be due to poor mouse aiming). [Bug 408118] [NEW] Removing kubuntu-desktop leaves all (automatically install) dependencies installed
Public bug reported: Starting with an Ubuntu system you install kubuntu-dekstop, e.g., using the command sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop you then try out kde and decide you wish to uninstall it, so you try removing what you installed, i.e., you use the command sudo aptitude remove kubuntu-desktop or even maybe a purge command, i.e., sudo aptitude purge kubuntu-desktop You would expect that the system returns to the same state ( as in the same installed packages) as before you ran the install command. Instead however only the meta package kubunut-dektop is removed, all the automatically installed dependencies of kubuntu-desktop remain. kubunut-desktop is a convent way to install Kubuntu from a standard Ubuntu installation. It should also be a convenient way to remove Kubuntu and revert back to Ubuntu. It prompted me for my admin password, and I was able to make the necessary changes, albeit not the ones recommended in the forum.. I used, the following instead: name resolve order = lmhosts wins bcast host I also changed the workgroup name to that of my local area workgroup. Will do some more to see which paramater actually made it work.. :) and will keep you informed. Regards, Chris On Sat, Jul 25, 2009 at 5:38 PM, Martin G Miller mgmil...@optonline.netwrote: When trying to edit OS configuration files, you need to have root privileges. The command to use in this case is: gksu gedit /etc/samba/smb.conf It will ask you for your password, just use the same password you use when you log into Ubuntu. Status in “samba” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Binary package hint: samba I maintain 2 networks with mixed ubuntu / Windows XP SP2 machines and this problem started suddenly in September of 2008. All of my Ubuntu machines whether they are clean installs of 8.04 or 8.10 or 9.04, 32 or 64 bit or upgrades from earlier versions all exhibit the failure to display or browse smb shares. The only fix is to edit etc/samba/smb.conf: # What naming service and in what order should we use to resolve host names # to IP addresses ; name resolve order = lmhosts host wins bcast remove the leading ; from the name resolve order line and change the order of the entries to read: name resolve order = lmhosts wins bcast host Save the file, log off and back on. This change fixes the problem for all my machine in both networks. The problem remains unresolved in Jaunty unless I do this. This problem appeared suddenly in September of 2008 on 8.04 machines that had been working normally and has persisted through 8.10 and now 9.04. Clicking on the Places Network to bring up the network browse gui will take a fairly long time to appear and it will not display any of the machines on the network, whether Ubuntu or Windows XP. It may display an icon for Windows Network, but if that is clicked, the system times out with nothing displayed after about 60 seconds. This happens on all machines whether clean installs or upgrades with 8.04, 8.10 and 9.04, both 32 And 64 bit. IT also does not matter if the Ubuntu machines are static IP or DHCP. After editing the smb.conf file as noted above, the network gui works quickly and as expected displays all shares on all Windows XP and Ubuntu machines on the local network. Additional info: until I found the fix noted here, I installed the kde 3.x network browser. I forget the name of the package, but that worked instantly. Once I got gnome working, I uninstalled it. I have not had to do this on the new 9.04 installs, I just edit smb.conf and everything works as expected. -- cannot browse samba shares without editing smb.conf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/375593 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

it seems you forgot to add some remaining changes: - Maintainer set to the MOTU team - a patch added on the 00list (change-logfile-location) which contains the change made to the trace.ml file. When you do a merge you should *alwais* look at the diff you generate. Every change you report on the changelog should be visible on the diff you provide.
