[Bug 1382221] Re: please add linux nvme block driver commit
Keith, Thanks for the patch its a clean cherry-pick, compiles fine. [Bug 1382462] [NEW] Desktop/windows painted incorrectly in dual monitor configuration
Public bug reported: My setup: Dell M4600 laptop with Dell U3011 2560x1600 monitor attached to DisplayPort. I was using Nvidia 331.38 prioprietary driver for quite a long time with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and everything worked perfectly. Today I upgraded to Ubuntu 14.10, which comes with Nvidia 331.89 and observed the following problem: 1. When I boot up the computer with the monitor connected, the login screen looks fine. Both displays get detected properly and resolutions are ok (1920x1080 on the builtin laptop display and 2560x1600 on U3011) and screen contents scaled properly. 2. Then I log into my account, for 3 seconds U3011 displays some rubbish (but it was always like that) and when it finally logs in, it displays everything stretched horizontally through both my screens. It looks as if it tried to paint the contents of a single display on two of them, by stretching the content horizontally, so everything (icons, windows, wallpaper) has wrong aspect-ratio. Funny, the top status bar seem to render correctly. Physical resolution of both screens is ok. I'll attach a photo, because it is hard to describe how it looks. 3. I cannot use system in this state - mouse click position seems to not be synchronized with what's on the display - e.g. I can start applications, but then they don't react to mouseclicks. However: booting up without the second display connected, logging in and *then* connecting the second display works fine. I tried deleting ~/.compiz and ~/.config/compiz-1 directories but the problem remains. I also tried to go into the Displays configuration when everything is ok, apply the settings there (without any changes) in hope it will persist them somehow, but after restart it is broken again. I also tried reinstalling nvidia 331.89 drivers, because it complained about not being able to install nvidia-uvm during the upgrade process (reported separately), and now all nvidia packages installed cleanly. Before that I also got rid of all the ppa mainline kernels I had, just in case they mess something up. I remember the same problem happened on Ubuntu 14.04 when I tried to upgrade nvidia from ppa/xorg-edgers to 331.89, but then the easy workaround was to downgrade back to official 331.38. Now I have no choice :( ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+7ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.16.0-22.29-generic 3.16.4 Uname: Linux 3.16.0-22-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus.0: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/0' .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 331.89 Tue Jul 1 13:30:18 PDT 2014 GCC version: gcc version 4.9.1 (Ubuntu 4.9.1-16ubuntu6) .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity CurrentDmesg: Error: command ['sh', '-c', 'dmesg | comm -13 --nocheck-order /var/log/dmesg -'] failed with exit code 1: comm: /var/log/dmesg: Permission denied Date: Fri Oct 17 11:02:50 2014 DistUpgraded: 2014-10-17 10:20:38,145 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: utopic DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, including running git bisection searches GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:04a3] NVIDIA Corporation GF108GLM [Quadro 1000M] [10de:0dfa] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:14a3] InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-03-21 (939 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Release amd64 (20111012) MachineType: Dell Inc. [Bug 1382466] [NEW] Greeter lock timeout can be reset by rebooting device
Public bug reported: 14.09-proposed image #113 STEPS: 1. Ensure passphrase is set. 2. Lock device. 3. At locked greeter, attempt to unlock using incorrect passphrase 7 times until 'Device Locked' notice is displayed. This displays a 5 minute timeout before device can be unlocked again. 4. Reboot device straight away. 5. At locked greeter attempt to unlock device again. EXPECTED: The lock period should persist after reboot so it is not possible to unlock the device until the timeout period has expired. ACTUAL: The lock period is removed, so it is possible to unlock (or attempt to unlock) device immediately after reboot. ** Affects: unity8 (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: New ** Tags: rtm14 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1382466 Title: Greeter lock timeout can be reset by rebooting device To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1382466/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 1380095] Re: Gnome Fallback[s] don't work in 14.04. Work once ONLY if reinstalled
On 17/10/14 09:23, Alberts Muktupāvels wrote: Probably nothing makes me more upset than the suggestion of a clean install. I tried it once and it not only failed, but was several WEEKS work for me to try to get things almost to how I had them. I know for some, a clean install is not terrifying or doesn't take them long. Not so for me. Are you using default theme - Ambiance? Then panels should not be black. I wanted that you change back to system theme to check if problem is in custom style. I know one person who had problems with transparent panels. Problem disappeared when he changed settings back to system theme. I'll have to check which theme I'm using and will have to research how to tell. I think, but not sure, it is not the default one. Panels are definitely black now. In 12.04 the color and transparent panels worked perfectly. I also can't seem to add launchers for many of the programs and monitors [temp, disk activity, etc.] I had on them before. They are just not there now after the upgrade. Transparency does not work fully anyway so I would suggest to use system theme for now. I have plans on fixing panel background, but that probably wont happen this year - so background probably will be broken even in ubuntu 15.04 version. :( Reinstall wont solve anything. You can try to reset gnome-panel configuration (see accepted answer): http://askubuntu.com/questions/125662/how-to-reset-gnome-panel NOTE: It will remove all your customization to panel and will reset to default. Then try if now gnome-panel starts every time you login. If all good try to start customize it step by step: 1) Add custom launcher - do several reboots. I understand. I mentioned before that my 14.04 [on a very fast machine] takes about 10-15x longer to start than did 12.04 - so many reboots really takes a long time! 2) Try to customize panel style - do serveral reboots. This way you will find what part is causing problem or you will be lucky and problem will disappear. Pfft! A lot of time and work...but I'll give it a try. [Bug 1382027] Re: Tracks without embedded art do not download the art
Dropping importance, since this is not a general problem with online album art display, but only affects files with incorrect metadata. [Bug 1003950] Re: launcher does not show minimized update manager while clicked
Eric Lambart, did you close the app by right clicking on the launcher icon and choosing Exit from the menu, before trying to launch it? To find the app, you have two options: 1. or write software update (without the final r) in the dash (Super key OR Super+A, not Super-R). 2. choose System details (I dont know the exact translation, but should be the first menu item) from the gear menu in the top right corner. Then click the button in bottom right corner, if updates are available. About the crashes, it's off topic for this bug, so please report it as a separate bug report. However, since I had similar problems, I can say you that it's probably a problem with the video drivers. [Bug 1382462] Re: Desktop/windows painted incorrectly in dual monitor configuration
** Description changed: My setup: Dell M4600 laptop with Dell U3011 2560x1600 monitor attached to DisplayPort. - I tried deleting ~/.compiz and ~/.config/compiz-1 directories but the problem remains. - I also tried to go into the Displays configuration when everything is ok, apply the settings there (without any changes) in hope it will persist them somehow, but after restart it is broken again. + If I boot up with connected monitor and log in (desktop distorted), disconnecting and connecting monitor does *not* help. After disconnecting the U3011, the builtin display is painted ok, but after connecting, it returns back to the incorrect state and both are rendered incorrectly. + The only thing that helps recovering from this state seems to be disconnecting the second monitor, reboot, loggin in and then connecting. + + BTW: I'm using a docking station - not sure if it is related - if you + think it might be, I can try with connecting the monitor directly. + + + I tried deleting ~/.compiz and ~/.config/compiz-1 directories but the problem remains. + I also tried to go into the Displays configuration when everything is ok, apply the settings there (without any changes) in hope it will persist them somehow, but after restart it is broken again. [Bug 1021924]
(In reply to Rodrigo Vivi from comment #34) Since the error reported cannot be reproduced anymore by reporter of reopen let's close this as invalid. Anyone able to reproduce again it feel free to re-reopen. But remind to test on latest drm-intel-nightly. Well, it's still an issue. I just no longer am using the motherboard/cpu where I was having the problem, and no longer am using multiple displays (I have a single 4K display now, which has a different set of problems on Linux). Closing it as Invalid seems like an inappropriate resolution to the problem. As the motheboard and CPU are both from Intel, I would think it should have been fairly easy for Intel employees working on drivers to get access to them for testing. If the end result is that this isn't going to be fixed at all, then at least have the guts to resolve it WONTFIX rather than insulting me by claiming it is somehow INVALID. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1021924 Title: 8086:0162 [Intel DQ77MK] Multiple Displays not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/1021924/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
