[Bug 1388259] [NEW] gnome-keyring SRU breaks ECDSA keys
Public bug reported: Previously I had been using ssh-add with ECDSA keys. (OpenSSH_6.6.1p1 Ubuntu-2ubuntu2, OpenSSL 1.0.1f 6 Jan 2014) After my system updated to gnome-keyring 3.10.1-1ubuntu4.1 (picking up the fix for #1271591) they stopped working: wry@onyx:~$ ssh-add ~/.ssh/id_ecdsa Enter passphrase for /home/wry/.ssh/id_ecdsa: Error reading response length from authentication socket. Could not add identity: /home/wry/.ssh/id_ecdsa Downgrading to gnome-keyring 3.10.1-1ubuntu4 resolves the issue. This appears to be because gnome-keyring does not support ECDSA. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=641082 refers. This means that the fix for #1271591 is an overall system regression for anybody who uses ECDSA keys. [Bug 1387752] Re: [Dash] [Apps Scope] Ubuntu Store icon should be entire width of screen
Also, the design presented here is quite bad for translations, as some languages may have longer strings which do not fit inside the card. The current layout works OK, as only the word store and the order of the words Ubuntu Store need to be affected by translation, and the dash will keep the text centered on two lines. This new design does not support that behavior well. Even only considering Spanish, it is bad, as the translation is a bit long already: Consiga mas aplicaciones en la tienda New design also introduces string changes that would break existing translations. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1387752 Title: [Dash] [Apps Scope] Ubuntu Store icon should be entire width of screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-scope-click/+bug/1387752/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1388262] [NEW] Prevent unsuitable scanning of /dev/mem and enable SMBIOS support for all UEFI platforms
Public bug reported: SMBIOS defines that on x86 platforms one can scan for an entry point in the physical address range 0xf-0xf - which is achieved by mmapping /dev/mem. However, this is invalid for most other architectures. Meanwhile, UEFI has alternative defined methods of discovery, so SMBIOS data can be easily found on at least IA64, ARM and AArch64. lshw currently has a stack of ifdefs to not attempt scanning on certain listed architectures. New architectures, like AArch64, end up with the lshw command potentially reading sensitive i/o regions, causing system crashes. The attached patch (which has been logged in upstream ticketing system, but is pending moderation there) flips the logic to only perform raw memory scanning on i386/x86_64 and also enables looking for SMBIOS tables on all UEFI platforms (in a safe manner). ** Affects: lshw (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: smbios-noscan.patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1388262/+attachment/4250317/+files/smbios-noscan.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1388262 Title: Prevent unsuitable scanning of /dev/mem and enable SMBIOS support for all UEFI platforms To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lshw/+bug/1388262/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I had this issue, but also noticed a few other bugs (like doubled up Printer icons, old icons that shouldn't be there any more, missing icons and some settings failing such as the screen settings) - I fixed it simply through an apt-get install ubuntu-desktop (although I imagine just doing the system settings app would probably have worked too.) I strongly suspect it's a side effect of going from 14.04 to 14.10 as the distribution upgrade app broke near the end on all machines I did the upgrade on and the process had to be manually fixed on all machines I did such an upgrade on (that taught me a lesson!) Yeah, I've got a bug open in Debian (#740034), I certainly don't mind if you add your patch there since it is still open. Actually, I need to increase the severity now since arm64 is part of the archive. Added. I'd suggest opening a separate bug in LP to enable this class of systems. This bug is at the end of it's lifecycle, and reopening it would cause confusion. Would you mind doing that or should I? I don't mind, but as always I am slightly unsure of what level of severity I should raise it at. Well, if it is negatively impacting shipping hardware (i.e. lshw is unable to report certain things because of the lack of smbios support), I'd say High since I consider that a hardware enablement issue. In one case it is a dual socket E5420 ( 8 cores), in another case it is a virtualized 8 cores E5645. I first thought it could be the new version of gcc (4.9) since both tasks involves a lot of C compilation. Although gcc 4.9 is slower (3s vs 2.8s in my own tests) it is not enough to explain the difference. I actually also tried using gcc 4.8 and 4.7 with the same performance degradation. [Bug 1378997] Re: lxsession-default-apps in utopic doesn't list all terminals
sorry for driving everyone crazy with the status changes but i was in the middle of confirming this when i found i couldn't reproduce it after all. i did find that rxvt-unicode-256color showed up, along with its dependencies of uxterm and xterm. lxterminal, too. if you hit the reload button do you have the same problem? i can also say everything is in update-alternatives and there aren't obvious problems with the .desktop files. it's unclear to me just browsing the code quickly what lxsession-db is building the database from, so i'm not sure where to look. anyways by the time i got that far, everything was there. i purged sakura and terminator and reloaded lxsession-default-apps and they were still there. i hit the reload button. same thing. then i closed and reloaded lxsession-default-apps and they were gone. i confirmed the same behavior with claws-mail, so it's not just the emulator. because of the workaround, i will mark this as low. ** No longer affects: terminator (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: lxsession (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: lxsession (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid ** No longer affects: sakura (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: lxsession (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Triaged ** Changed in: lxsession (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low ** Summary changed: - lxsession-default-apps in utopic doesn't list all terminals + lxsession-default-apps reload button fails silently -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1378997 Title: lxsession-default-apps reload button fails silently To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxsession/+bug/1378997/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1388278] [NEW] WiFi randomly disconnects and won't connect again
Public bug reported: Something odd that I have only seen in Ubuntu, Debian, and derivatives thereof affects something that most of us use every day, and can be a real hassle to beginners from what I've noticed: Many USB WiFi drivers will connect to an access point like usual and after long periods of inactivity on the network combined with user inactivity on the PC alone is when this problem appears to arise: The WiFi disconnects and does not connect again to the same hotspot using the same USB WiFi dongle unless the computer is restarted or reset, and a lot of the time, that doesn't immediately stop this error and even if so, the computer will disconnect yet again not too long from then. And why does this happen? It puzzles me. Maybe it's the USB chipset inside the WiFi dongle, or maybe it's a communication error between the Linux kernel and the automated firewall systems integrated in most routers and base stations today, it's hard to say. What I know is that this doesn't just happen on my computer, testing done by myself on several other computers in different locations using different WiFi hardware on Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint, or derivatives thereof gets the exact same result as I am experiencing now. I have gone digging through Debian, Ubuntu, and Linux Mint forums to try and find the cure patch for my computer or router and the answer as to why this is happening, and the best answer I could find is that within my system's WiFi Settings, I need to set the BSSID of the hotspot I am current using as the MAC address of the router which that hotspot is transmitting. Upon setting my BSSID to a clone of the Router's MAC address followed by a system restart, I noticed instant improvement when it comes to connection reliability, speed, and time to connect, yet after days of having that MAC as the BSSID, things went back to the usual chaos of an unreliable connection that no other device within the household has encountered, not even Android telephones and tablets that use much of the same underlying Linux code. I performed restarts, updates, more updates, resets, and even more derivatives of Debian or Ubuntu and this is still more of an issue than ever. Via further digging and through a process of trial-and-error, I enabled the IPv4 is required for this connection check box along with changing the BSSID to a clone of the router's MAC address in hopes it was a compatibility issue with the newer IPv6 Internet Protocol architecture in an attempt to basically 'force' the machine to get that digital handshake with the router in a more 'legacy' mode with IPv4, at least to get some connection. That worked for a bit as well, but didn't hold up just like before. I am now sitting here at my computer, still experiencing this issue on and off, currently having the issue stabilized and stalled at the moment with the IPv4 is required for this connection check box on, NO BSSID set, NO cloned MAC address, and NO Restrict to Device settings opted- in, hoping this time around this combination of settings will work, but it's a game of trial-and-error for me at this point now, like mentioned before. Has anyone else experienced such terrible connectivity issues only in Debian-based distributions recently? I have been using Linux for ages now and I feel as if this issue is now just arising within the past year, 2014. A HardInfo report generated from my computer is attached to this bug report. I hope we can figure out a solution soon to get pushed to all Debian and Debian-like distros soon! Nobody wants a bad connection. It **is** valid. If enough testing is done on these fake, unauthorized chipsets, the easier it will be for an instant fake or broken status to pop up on the screen to alert the user before continuing, bringing education of fake NAND/FLASH memory to the publics' eyes and hopefully alarming OEMs to crack down on these fake chipsets harming their brands. There's no sense to require privileges to give the opportunity to get past the Ubunu experienced a problem dialog - make that Ubuntu experienced a problem with package or binary name here * if you're used to a bunch of error messages at system start[1] and to click, let's say, five times on cancel in the Ubuntu experienced a problem dialog, you might more easily click one time too often than if the dialog tells you the name (proposal for text change see above) --- [1] That shouldn't happen in an ideal world, but is reality for almost every Ubuntu release for the first weeks ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10 Package: apport-gtk 2.14.7-0ubuntu8 Uname: Linux 3.16.7-031607-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl zcommon znvpair ApportLog: Error: [Errno 13] Keine Berechtigung: '/var/log/apport.log' ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sat Nov 1 01:20:45 2014 PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: apport UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: apport (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug utopic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1388289 Title: apport doesn't tell the name of the binary or package which crashed before privileges are gained To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1388289/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1388294] [NEW] [MIR] geoclue-2.0
Public bug reported: Availability: geoclue-2.0 is built and available on all current architectures in vivid Rational: geoclue-2.0 is the current supported release of geoclue. Due to the difficulty of transitioning all packages to the new release, geoclue 1 is in a separate source package (already in main). Version 2.0 is now required by a number of gnome components in main, so it would be nice if we didn't have to carry revert patches. Security: No CVEs, active upstream, the unsupport versedion is in ubuntu already Quality assurance: No bugs found in debian or ubuntu for this source package (23 minor bugs for the version already in main). Active debian maintainer. Dependencies: All dependancies are in main Maintenance: Package is well maintained in debian and the ubuntu-gnome team will maintain it in ubuntu Background information: GeoClue is a D-Bus geoinformation service. The goal of the Geoclue project is to make creating location-aware applications as simple as possible. ** Affects: geoclue-2.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1388294 Title: [MIR] geoclue-2.0 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/geoclue-2.0/+bug/1388294/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
