[Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

2013-05-02 Thread Alfredo Matos
I would say that this is a long way from Low Importance. As a desktop
user I hit this bug dozens of times per day, and over time this is
incredibly frustrating to the point of having installed several
alternatives, and even considering dropping Unity/Gnome in favor of KDE
(or something sane).

[Bug 879950] Re: pidgin not showing up

2012-08-03 Thread Alfredo Matos
The fact that this bug is such a big problem, affects all Ubuntu pidgin
users, and still isn't fixed, after almost a year, completely baffles
me. No, I will not change to empathy because it's simply daunting from a
functional perspective. If that was the intended underlying motivation
to not fix this, it's just plain awkward.

Since at the pace of things, this isn't going away any time soon (yey
for quality control), I accept suggestions on a non-QT instant messenger
that has a decent behavior on Ubuntu. Or perhaps some indication as to
whether this happens on other distros, since a fresh change might be the
way to go.

[Bug 819925] [NEW] iwlwifi driver exports all packets through netlink

2011-08-02 Thread Alfredo Matos
Public bug reported:

A new option present in Kernel 3.0 enables exporting all wifi packets on
the iwlwifi driver through (generic) netlink, for debug purposes (an
intel undisclosed svtool). This should not be enabled by default, as it
forces all wifi packet to be delivered through netlink (causing a large
amount of netlink operations, leading to cpu overhead, and battery
overhead).

The offending option is:
CONFIG_IWLWIFI_DEVICE_SVTOOL=y

This should be disabled in production systems, as it only matters for
development/testing.

After I deleted the Unread search folder and created it again, it

What changed was evolution-data-server to version 2.24.2-0ubuntu1.

This is step in the right direction, although other criteria don't work.

Yes! It works. I agree with Alexander, it should be present in the bug
description.

Conn, just one question. Along the way, the packages from
https://launchpad.net/~gnomefreak/+archive , created by John Vivirito,
that fix a couple of bugs in pulse audio (?). Are these still required
as part of the fix ? Or just correctly configuring asoundrc ?

Thanks!

Re: [Bug 192888] Re: firefox crashes on flash contents when using libflashsupport

2008-08-12 Thread Alfredo Matos
4 months into the hardy releasy and six into this bug, and flash is
still not working. I've seen some possible fixes in this bugreport, but
no definitive solutions.
I have seen many new users change back to Windows or to other distros
because of this bug. Sorry guys, but this really needs fixing... IMHO it
should be marked as *Critical*. It's sad to see newly converted users
leaving linux and ubuntu because they can't see youtube.
I don't really understand the status of the affected packages, since I
see several fix released, but it's still not working. It would be great
if someone could explain this, because it's a bit confusing (especially
for someone trying to learn its ways around proper bug managing)

But i have two questions from an average user's perspective:

  - Is there at least a recommended workaround for this ? If there is,
it deserves front and center attention on the bug report and on the wiki
at least (possibly also in the forums: "How to Fix your crashing Flash")

  - Is there any way to contribute to this ? Package testing ? Further
bug information ? Anything to speed this up ? (I don't think Ubuntu can
afford 4 more months of this, and we should all pitch in.)

  Thanks.

apart bugs. If not, then most of these bugs just look all the same. Open

Hi. Thanks for reporting this behavior, but this is a Google "feature"
which detects the connecting IP address and redirects to the
localization it thinks is best suited. Pressing the go to Google.com in
English button fixes this.

There is currently no way for the browser to hide you current IP
address, unless some extensive privacy mechanisms are used, which are
mostly not available in today's networks. You can try to user Tor, which
is an onion router implementation.

This also looks like a duplicate of bug 213948 . There seem to be a lot
of them.

This also happens in epiphany, so it might be a xulrunner-1.9 bug ?

As steps to reproduce in other bugs, I just put a URL that crashes
firefox/epiphany every time. http://www.bwin.com seems to crash every
time, since it's all flash. Just a matter of clicking or minimizing the
browser window.

[Bug 148711] Re: SCSI HardDisk Not Detected on Toshiba RAID controller in Toshiba Qosmio G20 Laptop

2007-12-26 Thread Alfredo Matos
I tried Alpha2 (http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/hardy/alpha2) and it
properly recognized the hard drives, so it's working up to that point.

It's not my laptop, so i cannot test a clean install on it. I say this
because the feisty install also required some major tricking to boot
once installed.

On a side a note, nvidia driver never worked on feisty, my friend is
stuck on nv or vesa. Not sure why, but i never managed to fix it for
him...

2007-10-05 Thread Alfredo Matos
Smacked against the same problem on the Qosmio G20. Gutsy Beta 1 will
not recognize the hard drives out of the box.

I managed to get it to recognize the hard drives as follows:

Press F6 on the Grub menu while over the first menu option (Other
Options):

Append the following options to the boot line and then boot (Enter):

blacklist=piix,ata_piix

This enabled me to have the drives recognized properly. I'm moving on to
the Install. If something goes wrong I'll check back.

[Bug 79135] Re: gnome-power-manager and a problem with the brightness

2007-06-13 Thread Alfredo Matos
I can see this bug also on a T60. But, gnome-power-manager adjusts the
slider and the OSD through information received through hal, therefore
this bug relates to HAL and ibm-acpi. HAL is capable of picking up the
information supplied by gnome-power-manager, but does not pickup the
correct level from ibm-acpi when the brightness changes.

Digging deeper, when changing the brightness through the hotkeys, the
ibm-acpi does not pickup the change in spite of the brightness changing,
and therefore /proc/acpi/ibm/brightness level does not change. Since the
ibm-acpi is part of the vanilla source, i would say that this is a
linux-source-2.6.20 bug.

[Bug 87687] Re: New git snapshot required for xorg 7.2/feisty

2007-03-12 Thread Alfredo Matos
After some code checking, the Xinerama stuff is already in the git
package that John Dong put together. The patch fails to apply because
it's already there. After some investigation along with John, Xinerama
works !great!. There is an explicit need to +xinerama to the XGL startup
script, but after that, working great.

In my case the following does the trick:

Xgl :1 -fullscreen -ac -accel xv:pbuffer -accel glx:pbuffer -nolisten
tcp +xinerama &

Having this fixed also, just gives me one more strong reason to support
the UVF bypass for this package. Thanks J.Dong.

seem to have dropped the Xinerama stuff. Could this be why my windows

[Bug 90961] UVF Exception - ATI fglrx 8.34.8 binary driver

2007-03-09 Thread Alfredo Matos
Public bug reported:

Upstream release contains fixes that solve reported suspend failures on
some devices (ex. ATI X700, See Bug #84991), and supports more ATI
hardware

Release notes contain:

- introduces support for the ATI Xpress™ 1250 IGP for AMD based
motherboards

- A system hang no longer occurs when attempting to resume from
hibernation mode. Further details can be found in topic number 737-22059

- Loading the XVideo Extension on 64-bit Xorg 6.9+ systems no longer
results in the X Server segfaulting when launching. This issue was known
to occur with Radeon X1K products. Further details and the workaround
can be found in topic number 737-22837

- Running aticonfig--dtop=(horizontal|vertical) no longer results in
clone mode being activated when attempting to enable big desktop mode

[Bug 84991] Re: Resume from suspend fails with FGLRX

2007-03-08 Thread Alfredo Matos
Nice catch.

If that doesn't work, i can only assume that it is X700 specific. I
would recommend that you take the following steps:

1. Try the new driver release 8.34.8 and see if it works. You can find
information on how to install here:
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Feisty_Installation_Guide

2. If nothing works, file an issue on the ATI Customer Care as already
shown on this thread, or even on the unofficial bug report database
http://ati.cchtml.com/

Other than this, we should probably close this bug, since it is a binary
driver and cannot be fixed in Ubuntu.

Did you manage to put the laptop to sleep using Fn+F4 and the sleep.sh

it is already working here, and for most people. But we can cease and
