[Bug 1168095] Re: Can't play streaming radios

2013-04-13 Thread Colin Mills
I notice that the bug is still marked as incomplete. What additional
information is needed?

It is also marked as only affcting one person, but surely this is
incorrect, since three peeople are reporting that they experienced this
bug.

[Bug 1168095] Re: Can't play streaming radios

2013-04-12 Thread Colin Mills
I can also cofirm that I can't play ANY and ALL url-streaming radio, the
player goes on pause and never plays it. It seems to be a problem
associated with the latest version of Rhythmbox (2.98), installed on
Ubuntu 13.04 (in my case 64 bit)

Ma, In answer to your question about
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats, I can confirm that
the problem is present even when ubuntu-restricted-extras package is
installed.

In answer to the query regarding URL's, the following is a list of URL's
that I am currenly using Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit, running Rhythmbox 2.97

Radio Bop - http://208.53.158.48:8362/
Flower Power Radio - http://216.66.84.3:5050
Oldies 104 - http://205.188.215.228:8010
Oldies Project - http://178.19.127.144/
UK Country Radio - http://87.117.250.3:9076
Heart Radio - http://media-ice.musicradio.com/HeartLondonMP3
LBC - http://media-ice.musicradio.com/LBC973MP3Low

I hope that's enough

was no problem. I am runningLinux Mint Nadia (64 bit).

I succesfully installed the package via

[Bug 1064962] Re: [SRU] Global menubar items do not work when opening a document directly from nautilus with no LibreOffice instance running

2012-11-08 Thread Colin Mills
Luc
I installed the ppa (from post #99) and my 64 bit libreOffice Global Menu now
works perfectly when I call a file via Nautilus. Thanks for all the hard work.

As an aside, is it planned to port this fix into an update for Quantal,
or will we need to install the fix via your ppa?

[Bug 1068341] Re: No way to specify correct dependencies for dkms packages

2012-10-24 Thread Colin Mills
While this bug continues to go unfixed, we must be losing potential
Ubuntu users who expect to select an NVidia driver and have it work
straight away. When it doesn't they will go back to their original os.

Why can't linux-headers-generic be added to the NVidia dependencies or
added as a future update?

2012-04-12 Thread Colin Mills
Fabio

I accept that Google Earth is not an in the Ubuntu Repositories but I
would make two comments

1) Google earth can be instlled in Ubuntu 11.10 as it pulls in the 32 bit
dependencies
2) I would draw your attention to my bug report which states that I was unable
to install ia32-libs (an Ubuntu package?) from the command line, as I got the

2012-03-23 Thread Colin Mills
The problem of audio hiss when producing DVDs using the latest version of

managed to work round the problem by going to 'Edit-Preferences' and

I assume that the hiss problem is associated with ffmpeg.

[Bug 851933] [NEW] After some recent updates, can't install Google Earth

2011-09-16 Thread Colin Mills
Public bug reported:

I was able to download and install Google Earth from
'http://www.google.co.uk/intl/en_uk/earth/download/ge/agree.html', on Ubuntu
Oneiric (64 bit). After a subsequent upgrade broke Ubuntu, I re-installed
Ubuntu Oneiric, via the daily update package and downloaded and installed
Google Earth (together with lsb-core).
I restarted and selected Google Earth, the splash screen opened and then Google
Earth crashed. I think the problem may be associated with a recent Ubuntu
Oneiric update, since the same package version was successfully installed on an
earlier version of Ubuntu Oneiric.
To confirm this, I successfully installed the same version of Google Earth in
Ubuntu Natty.
For reference, I include a copy of the googleearth crashlog:-

[Bug 841761] Re: unable to set keyboard shortcuts

2011-09-08 Thread Colin Mills
I appreciate that there is insufficient information to attempt to fix the bug.
I tried your suggestions, without any success. As I said in my earlier bug
report, The shortcuts do not respond when trying to edit a shortcut, nor is
there any response when pressing Backspace to clear. This includes all the
keyboard shortcut options, they are all locked.
So as you can see from my earlier bug report I tried using Backspace, but this
did not reset the keys.

[Bug 841761] Re: unable to set keyboard shortcuts

2011-09-08 Thread Colin Mills
Sebastian
Yes I did click on the right column.
There is a similar problem, which may be another manifestation of the same bug.
As an alternative to setting the keyboard shortcuts from System
Settings-Shortcut, I installed CompizConfig SettingsManager, ticked on
'Commands' installed a command on 'Command line 0' set the 'Key Bindings' and
selected the key combination to run the shortcut. Now I am using this technique
on Ubuntu 11.04 to run 8 shortcut commands, and this work perfectly.
I used the same approach in Ubuntu 11.04, but was unable to get the shortcut to
work. I identified this problem. Each time a key command was run, 'Use This
Plugin-Enable Commands' checkbox was unticked. No mater how many times I
clicked the text box, as soon as I tried to run the Command line shortcut, the
text box was unchecked.
Please advise whether this should be reported as a separate bug.

[Bug 741185] Re: Google Earth Package Locks up in Natty

2011-03-27 Thread Colin Mills
igi
The problem I was reporting, was a problem after the package was installed.
This was resolved by a subsequent software update.

There is a bug in the Ubuntu Software Centre which results in it
reporting that some packages do not meet package quality standards, and
as a short term 'fix', follow the procedure outlined in
'https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GoogleEarth', but don't install via
the USC. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and , as you
suggest, run 'sudo dpkg -i debian-package.deb'.

I suggest that this bug be marked as closed and a new bug report be
raised to report the problem with installing software via the USC, (if
one hasn't been raised already).

I don't think so. The bug#731451 refers to 'lock up' when loading wav or other

The problem I experience, is that although I can acquire a signal from the

file (In the 'File' menu all the 'Export' options are blacked out).

so it would seem that these bugs are not dependent on whether Unity or
the Classic Gnome desktop are used.

Hope this is of some help.

[Bug 738160] Re: Audacity unable to process audio input in Natty

2011-03-20 Thread Colin Mills
Good news!

I ran killall unity-panel-service and recorded a section of audio from
my sound card. It recorded the audio perfectly and I was able to export
the audio file.

I then repeated the procedure and downloaded an audio file into
Audacious. It accepted the import and I was again able to export the
audio file.

Your suspicion that bugs #731451 and this bug (#738160) were related by
a common software bug was correct. Congratulations.

[Bug 738160] [NEW] Audacity unable to process audio input in Natty

impossible to setup the Audacity libraries

[Bug 738160] Re: Audacity unable to process audio input in Natty

2011-03-19 Thread Colin Mills
Benjamin thank you for the quick response. Unfortunately, in all
versions of Ubuntu, including Maverick, I have had to go to
'Edit-Preferences-Libraries' and then click 'FFMPEG libraries
Locate'. At this point, a message box tells me that Audacity has located
the plugin, do I want to search for a new one? I then click 'No' and
Audacity runs ok.

I don't know whether this problem is unique to myself, or whether others
suffer the same problem, but certainly in my case, without the ability
to configure the library I am unable to run Audacity.

[Bug 738160] Re: Audacity unable to process audio input in Natty

2011-03-19 Thread Colin Mills
I have rechecked Audacity in Natty, and still have a problem. As i
stated earlier, the audio seems to be detected and displayed, but when I
go to the 'File' menu all the 'Export' options are blacked out. I
repeated the audio capture in Maverick without any problem and was able
to export the audio file without any problem.

Would it be possible to attach a 64 bit Audacity test file to this bug
report page with the 'Libraries' option enabled, to allow me to confirm
that this bug is or isn't related to the Audacity library files?

[Bug 632989] [NEW] Bleachbit does not include 'Bleachbit as Administrator'

However, starting Chromium with 'chromium-browser --enable-plugins' is

[Bug 549831] [NEW] Message Could not connect to Plymouth

2010-03-27 Thread Colin Mills
Public bug reported:

I am currently running Ubuntu Lucid (64 bit). When I switch on or
reboot, after the initial POST, the screen stays black, then after about
10s a message appears mountall: Could not connect to Plymouth, then
there is a black screen until the login window appears. After logging
in, the desktop appears after about 3 seconds, and works perfectly.

[Bug 546660] Re: Rhythmbox Radio browser plugin unable to download Shoutcast/Icecast server

2010-03-26 Thread Colin Mills
I reported the problem as being a rhythmbox problem, but subsequently
realised thet the problem was due to an update of the rhythmbox-radio-
browser, not rhythmbox itself. Sorry about the confusion. Please close
this bug report and I will report the bug in the the Launchpad
rhythmbox-radio-browser bug page.

[Bug 546660] Re: Rhythmbox Radio browser plugin unable to download Shoutcast/Icecast server

2010-03-25 Thread Colin Mills
On further investigation, I can confirm that the problem is caused by
the latest update to therhythmbox-radio-browser from segler which
occurred a few days ago. I am also running Karmic and using the segler
repo ( https://launchpad.net/~segler-alex/+archive/ppa ) and it updated
the rhythmbox-radio-browser, and now I have exactly the same problem as
I had with the Ubuntu 10.04 distro.

[Bug 546660] [NEW] Rhythmbox Radio browser plugin unable to download Shoutcast/Icecast server

2010-03-24 Thread Colin Mills
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

In ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), the Rhythmbox Radio browser plugin (sudo
apt-get install rhythmbox-radio-browser) can't locate the
Shoutcast/Icecast etc servers. It just gives the message Downloading ..
Try 1 of 3. The plugin was working in Ubuntu 10.04 on the 21st March,
so it would appear that some recent update has rendered the plugin
inoperative.

I am running the 64 bit version of Ubuntu 10.04

[Bug 545873] [NEW] Rhythmbox reloads deleted podcasts

2010-03-24 Thread Colin Mills
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

After a recent update to the Rhythmbox package in Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid), I am
now unable to delete old podcasts. I right click on a podcast, select
'Delete-Delete Episode And File' and the podcast appears to be deleted. When I
close and reopen Rhythmbox, the deleted podcast is reinstalled. I now have the
problem of having a number of previously read podcasts, all of which I am
unable to remove. I had no problem with Rhythmbox podcasts until the recent
update.
I am running the 64 bit distribution.

[Bug 474341] Re: No conversion occurs. It just says converting... but nothing happens!

2009-11-08 Thread Colin Mills
I can confirm that there is a bug in this version of Convertall. The developer
(http://convertall.bellz.org/index.html) has released a new version with a
number of bug fixes.
If you are comfortable running the terminal, there is an alternative. Uninstall
the current version of Convertall. Download and unpack the latest tar file
from the website. Since the new package has the same dependencies as the
current version, open a terminal and enter:-

sudo apt-get build-dep -y convertall
cd Convertall
sudo python install.py

This will install a working version of Convertall. In my case,
Convertall was not shown on the menu, so I used the Alacarte menu to add
it. The launch command is convertall' and the icon is in
/usr/local/share/icons/convertall.

Hopefully, the new version of Convertall will be ported to the Karmic
repos at some point.

[Bug 448843] Re: brasero fails to burn iso image

2009-10-21 Thread Colin Mills
As of today, the Brasero bug still has not been fixed, and I notice the
bug importance has been shown as undecided and the bug is as yet,
unassigned. Are there any plans to fix this bug before the final
release on the 29th of this month?

[Bug 449589] Re: Alsa mixer Master Front volume resets to minimum on startup

2009-10-13 Thread Colin Mills
Thanks for the help everyone. I gather from the post, that a fix for the
alsa-utils bug will be released. Daniel T Chen mentioned that commenting
out a line in a file would fix the problem. Is this something that I
could do to fix the problem, while the fix is being implemented?

Daniel, I would like to use PulseAudio, if I could only find out how to
set it up. In Ubuntu 9.04 I was able to go to
'System-Preferences-Sound' and select PulseAudio. In Ubuntu Karmic I
can't see any option for selecting PulseAudio, the new sound control
panel makes no mention of PulseAudio at all. Any help or advice would be
appreciated.

[Bug 449589] [NEW] Alsa mixer Master Front volume resets to minimum on startup

2009-10-12 Thread Colin Mills
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: alsa-utils

After installing the latest Ubuntu Karmic (64 bit) updates today I find
that every time I reboot the system, there is no sound. To remedy the
situation I have to open a terminal and enter 'alsamixer'. I reset the
master front volume then enter 'sudo alsactl store' in the terminal to
save the volume setting and then close alsamixer. The volume remains ok
until the next reboot, at which point the alsa master front volume is
reset to zero.

This problem was not present in Karmic until I installed the latest
updates today.

[Bug 448843] [NEW] brasero fails to burn iso image

2009-10-11 Thread Colin Mills
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

There appears to be a bug in Brasero in Ubuntu Karmic (64 bit). I attempt to
burn an iso inage, which apparently appears successful, but when I boot the cd
the boot process starts, gets almost to the end abd then freezes.
It can't be the cd/dvd burner as I am dual booting Jaunty and Karmic, and
Brasero successfully burns the identical iso image when running Ubuntu Jaunty.

[Bug 425235] Re: Should require mplayer-nogui instead of mplayer

I think that Cyril Jaquier may be correct. I installed a more recent
version of mplayer from the Launchpad repo
(https://launchpad.net/~rvm/+archive/mplayer). The update is recommended
on the SMPlayer download page
(http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/downloads.php?tr_lang=en).

I got round the problem by installing the tar.bz2 version from the
devede website (http://www.rastersoft.com/programas/devede.html) and
running the install script.

[Bug 425235] Re: Should require mplayer-nogui instead of mplayer

2009-10-09 Thread Colin Mills
Forgive me if I'm asking a daft question, but when I install devede in
karmic, the software wants to remove mplayer and replace it with
mplayer-nogui. Since I use mplayer as part of SMplayer, will this mean
that I can no longer use SMplayer if I want to use devede?

If this is the case, might it not be better to install mplayer-nogui
only if mplayer is not installed?
