[Bug 852603] Re: Please backport hedgewars (0.9.16-1) from precise to oneiric
Anything safe has been backported to the 0.9.16 repository branch already in Hedgewars Mercurial. But that's a rather small subset of the changes. The problem is that virtually anything breaks network compatibility since, to keep cheating in a FOSS game down, and to keep the network protocol light, Hedgewars network play just relays moves. As a result anything that even slightly alters the gameplay causes network incompatibility. So, virtually every release has a network protocol bump. This is obviously a bit inconvenient for the Linux users who aren't on PlayDeb. OSX users just get the update we push to the app store, and Windows users just grab the new exe. A surprising amount of time is spent telling Linux users the reason they don't see anyone on the server is they are on a version that is 1-4 revisions out of date (anywhere from 3 months to 2 years old). Some can use PlayDeb, others have to build from source. The full ChangeLog is here. http://hedgewars.googlecode.com/hg/ChangeLog.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/852603 Title: Please backport hedgewars (0.9.16-1) from precise to oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oneiric-backports/+bug/852603/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 852603] Re: Please backport hedgewars (0.9.16-1) from precise to oneiric
Just as an example of just what can change network play. [Bug 891852] [NEW] Unusable IP Information table and partial obstruction of Ping tab.
Public bug reported: The Devices' tab's IP Information table has only about 10px worth of viewing space - making the window larger does not make the table bigger. It is completely unusable. Additionally, the default window size (which is not remembered between launches) does not allow for the Ping tab's graph to be fully displayed - even the legend gets cut off, let alone the graph it self. This may be a gtk or some other under-lying element's issue, as I have noticed the behavior on other applications; however, it is by far most noticeable in Pidgin. [Bug 844937] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message()
I had the same thing happen to me. I'd enabled (toggled the switch in gnome-shell-extensions) the user theme extension, then rebooted. Oh, I'd also installed the full gnome package which was why I was rebooting, but I doubt that was it. After reboot, was crashing, couldn't get it to recover, and of course gnome-shell-extensions is only half functional if gnome-shell isn't working. [Bug 823615] Re: network-manager doesn't reconnect to wireless networks after rfkill soft blocks removed
Hm. This looks roughly like what I'm experiencing where if I uncheck wifi in gnome-shell or XFCE4 (haven't tried in Unity yet) it is permanently killed. XFCE4's network tool reports that the rf kill switch has been used (not so, I just used the network gui). Oddly, if I actually toggle the real physical rf kill switch, while bluetooth goes on and off, wifi stays dead. I have to reboot to recover. Yes, I know not precisely the same machine/pattern, but still seems related so just gonna watch this one to see what happens. Right now, I just avoid disabling wireless as much as possible. Oh. Hello Pedro, This issue does not exist for me under Oneiric Ocelot on the live CD, nor the full desktop installation. This only existed with Natty Narwhal. [Bug 772834] Re: Asus U43F with 11.04 freeze on suspend
I'm also having the same issue on an Asus A53E-based computer running Fedora 15 LXDE x86-64, even with the latest Fedora kernels (which are 3.0-based). I tried updating the BIOS, but that didn't help. What's strange is that from the user level, everything seems to go fine. You can check the pm-suspend.log (wherever it lives, for me it's /var/log) and it prints that all its hooks completed successfully and that it's entering suspend. Then I get the same thing the OP gets: it kicks to the text output from my boot and hangs. I also notice that my hard drive access light comes on and stays on. Not sure if that's important, but I'm using an SSD and for it to be suspending to RAM and presumably accessing the disk for about 10 seconds straight is problematic in my mind. Additionally, I didn't have any issues with this problem on a similar A53, except it had an AMD-based processor and AMD/ATI-based graphics. Hopefully it's not an issue with the Intel stuff, but given how flaky Sandy Bridge can be on Linux (graphics in particular), I wouldn't be surprised. It's not DE/WM/X related, because I booted my computer in runlevel 3 and tried running pm-suspend from there, it hung the same way. I'm both relieved and alarmed that I'm not the only one experiencing this issue, and that it's not distro-dependent. [Bug 221363] Re: Policy Kit Unlock Buttons Greyed Out when using NX / VNC / LTSP
Milan said in #62: Have a look at files in /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/ and try to guess what are the files you need to edit. When I log in using a physical keyboard, it looks like this when I run who (my username is ubuntu): ubuntu tty8 2011-09-11 18:33 (:0) But when I log in with VNC, it looks like this: ubuntu2011-09-11 18:32 (127.0.0.1:1) I am guessing the difference between (:0) and (127.0.0.1:1) is why my VNC session is not authorized to make changes. So I am marking this bug as invalid. Thank you for your help. I'm off to read the PolicyKit documentation now... but if you could give me a hint as to where I need to add 127.0.0.1:1 it would be much appreciated :) ** Changed in: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/846808 Title: PolicyKit button doesn't allow authenticating To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-system-tools/+bug/846808/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 846808] [NEW] gnome-network-admin menu entry does not use gksu
Public bug reported: I want a desktop GUI method to change my hostname. So I apt-get install gnome-network-admin. But now when I go to System Administration Network, the program network-admin says Not authorized to make changes. I must manually launch a shell and run gksu network-admin. [Bug 699802] Re: error:: no video mode activated
#24 fixed it for me in 11.04 (with encrypted root and swap and separate, unencrypted boot partition). (Although, now I have a new problem: my cheap LCD monitor can't recognize the resolution requested by the GRUB screen. Ugh!) So, this is verified as a font path issue. I have to say, this bug is a real stinker. It demonstrates that a new Ubuntu was released and nobody bothered to even try full-disk encryption before releasing it...? Does anybody else miss LILO? I've had more GRUB problems in the past 4 years than in the previous 10 years with LILO! HEY GRUB TEAM, STOP BREAKING GRUB. Sorry, had to vent. [Bug 699802] Re: error:: no video mode activated
Comment #24 seems like a viable workaround for some, but not for me. After copying the fonts as per Comment #24, GRUB is now displaying at an insane resolution of something like 2000x2000 px at the boot screen and also when I get to a textmode shell. My cheap LCD won't show anything at all, and my fancy LCD can only display the top half of the screen. I mention it here only because it seems related to GRUB not setting the video mode correctly. First, due to missing fonts (as per Comment #24), and now, due to who-knows-why. This is on an integrated NVidia G-Force chipset. Everything worked fine under 10.4. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/699802 Title: error:: no video mode activated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/699802/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

That particular one was replaced by a more recent attachment, so I deleted it. See the list of attachments on the bug report - hope you agree it is somewhat easier to follow now. Apologies for the confusion over the kernels - the ones I quoted were of course the kernels on which xorg was built. That said, you do have different kernels for each machine, which would mean different kernel modules and potentially different behaviour. Also the Xorg.0.log files show an interesting difference: derek-Dual2: xorg-server 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1.1 dad-dual2: xorg-server 2:1.10.2.902+git20110708+server-1.10-branch.bc3c539e-0ubuntu0sarvatt~natty The former is the same as my fresh installed system, the latter is clearly very different. Could we see current versions of xserver-xorg: dpkg -l xserver-xorg Just paste the results into your response, no need to add as an attachment. My suspicion is that this bug is invalid as currently logged - the two systems are not the same - as evidenced by the different kernels. I suspect you should probably just be trying to get help on why dad-dual2 is not working through the usual channels. [Bug 816231] [NEW] Sony VPC-F11 (VPCF11GGX) AR9287 Wireless hangs on large file transfers over WPA2
Public bug reported: This is another one in my series of bugs encountered in this Sony VPC-F11 Others include: bug #791900 , bug #791904 and bug #791898 Symptoms are that large file transfers over scp stall on my home network using WPA2 personal. Seems random, but often enough that copying a folder of music stalled every 5 or 6 songs, and a folder of video, about two or three times per video. No other linux machine here has this problem. Admittedly the others are still on Ubuntu 10.10, but I tested a transfer of 4 gigabytes of data on the Ubuntu 10.10 laptop with an AR9285 without any issues. Nothing is reported to dmesg and the problem fixes itself temporarily if I disconnect/reconnect in network manager or toggle the wifi kill switch. By toggling the kill switch I was able to successfully copy over 4 gigabytes of data, with perhaps 15 reconnects. I was hoping one of the workarounds in bug #761176 would help, but none of them seemed to do the trick, I get the feeling there were a few problems reported in that bug, and since it was closed out fixed, filed a new one. I've tested the 2.6.37 kernel, and 2.6.38 6-10 as well as -11 proposed. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/761176/comments/20 appears to have similar hardware, although I don't know if the problem is the same. 02:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc.
