2009-11-22 Thread Dominik Stadler
Looking at the attached dpkg-log, the following line shows the reason
for this problem:

dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/libcommons-
collections3-java_3.2.1-1ubuntu2_all.deb (--unpack):

 failed in buffer_write(fd) (10, ret=-1): backend dpkg-deb during
`./usr/share/java/commons-collections3-3.2.1.jar': No space left on
device

no space left on device means that simply the disk ran out of space
here, I don't think this is a problem of the package itself.

Therefore closing this as invalid. If you think there is a problem with
too much space usage, please create a separate bug report that provides
the relevant information.

no space left on device means that simply the disk ran out of space here, I
don't think this is a problem of the package itself.

Therefore I am closing this as duplicate of a bug where the error
message is discussed, please try to make more space available on your
harddrive and then try again.

If you think there is a problem with too much space usage somewhere,
please create a separate bug report that provides the relevant
information.

case.

this Bug can be a duplicate of Bug 312491 where problems with error

Looking at the attached dpkg-log, the following line shows the following
reason for this problem:

dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/perl-modules_5.10.0-19ubuntu1.1_all.deb (--unpack):
 failed in buffer_write(fd) (10, ret=-1): backend dpkg-deb during
`./usr/share/perl/5.10.0/Unicode/Collate/allkeys.txt': No space left on device

no space left on device means that simply the disk ran out of space
here, I don't think this is a problem of the package itself.

Therefore I am closing this as duplicate of bug 312491 where the error
message is discussed, for now please try to make more space available on
your harddrive and then try again.

If you think there is a problem with too much space usage somewhere,
please create a separate bug report that provides the relevant
information.

don't think this is a problem of the package itself but rather shortage of

[Bug 312491] Re: Out-of-disk-space is not reported to the user when installing/updating packages fails

2009-11-22 Thread Dominik Stadler
I spent a few more minutes to wade through a list of similar bug reports
and duplicated most of them to this one. This shows that this is a very
common problem. The install/update of some package fails because of out
of space, but the user does not know about it and is just presented the
package install failed message which leads to many unnecessary bug
reports.

I think the current list of duplicates warrants setting the importance
for this bug to something like high, can somebody with enough rights
do this?

I also adjusted the title to show the intent of the bug a bit better.

** Summary changed:

- Failure to update add/ or remove programs

[Bug 475329] Re: High CPU and DISK load on mounting NTFS with hibernated WinXP

2009-11-22 Thread Dominik Stadler
It would be interesting which process constantly tries to mount the
partition here, i.e. the parent process id 474 in above example (it will
be a different one now most likely).

Maybe you can provide the ps -aef | grep parentid as many times until
the parent-id is 1 so we can see which of the services tries to mount
the partition here.

I marked this Bug duplicate of Bug #434372 as that one requests
tellico-2.1 to be added in the next release, this would solve any
remaining issue discussed here as well as far as I see.

There is a separate option under Document which affects the currently
opened document. I am not 100% sure what the option in the preferences
does, maybe it is the default for newly opened documents.

I see the same thing, I already checked and verified that KPhotoAlbum is

problem in KPhotoAlbum itself, but need to get confirmation from the
developers of KPhotoAlbum first.

so my laymans analysis would be that X tries to reconfigure itself and

reconfigure in the first place? Can I turn that off?

[Bug 483645] [NEW] X-Server fails to start at boot time, debconf complains about unavailable TERM

2009-11-16 Thread Dominik Stadler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Since upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 I have trouble getting the xserver and
kdm to start up. I did some investigation and found the following log in
the kdm.log file:

and X does not start at all. After the initial boot messages, nothing happens
any more, CTRL-ALT-F1 does behave strange, it shows a big underlined-cursor.
When I then press CTRL-F7, I see the output for the tty1. Alt-SysRq-... allows
me to bring down the machine graacefully, but I am not able to get a working
console.

When I start in recovery mode, I can choose resume normal boot,
which brings me to a text console. From there doing sudo kdm starts
the XServer normally and displays the login prompt.

Attached logs are from a self-compiled kernel, but I have the same thing
with the official -14 and -15 kernel from Karmic.

[Bug 479601] Re: /usr/lib/python2.6/shutil.py, line 34, harattr instead of hasattr

The following command will show you which package contains a file:

$ dpkg -S /usr/lib/python2.6/shutil.py
python2.6: /usr/lib/python2.6/shutil.py

So python2.6 itself it is!

However that file is correct in my installation, it uses hasattr, I

[Bug 463762] Re: After update to karmic ALT-F[1-8] switches to text console

2009-11-15 Thread Dominik Stadler
I did some more investigation, this is what I came up with:

It seems to be depending on the kernel and the type of hibernate/resume
that is used.

- For stock kernels from Karmic with swsusp it does NOT happen
- For TuxOnIce-enalbed kernels from the TuxOnIce PPA it HAPPENS
- If I download pre-kernel 2.6.31-16.51~pre2 from the PPA at
https://launchpad.net/~stefan-bader-canonical/+archive/karmic, it does NOT
happen
- If I patch pre-kernel 2.6.31-16.51~pre2 from the PPA at
https://launchpad.net/~stefan-bader-canonical/+archive/karmic with TuxOnIce
patches from 20091009, it does NOT happen

so it seems to be introduced in the TuxOnIce sources between the patch-
release 20091009 and the version of TuxOnIce used for building the
kernel on the TuxOnIce-PPA.

[Bug 198724] Re: [amd64] partimage not synced

I built partimage on my PPA at https://launchpad.net/~dominik-
stadler/+archive/ppa for Karmic and at https://launchpad.net/~dominik-
stadler/+archive/dsta-jaunty-ppa for Jaunty. Both have been used
successfully on 64-bit installations.

Nominating this for Lucid as I don't see any reason why this is still
not included for amd64/x86_64-architecture.
