[Bug 424858] [NEW] games onplayable when audio is enabled, massive slowdown.

2009-09-05 Thread El Toozero
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gfceu

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:9.10

$ apt-cache policy gfceu
gfceu:
  Installed: 0.6.1-0ubuntu1

Games should load and play fine, even with audio enabled.

Playing games works fine as long as audio is disabled, but enabling
audio causes excessive stuttering and slowdown, and makes the game
unplayable.

[Bug 420363] Re: [eee 901][karmic]system freeze when toggling wifi while bluetooth disabled

2009-09-03 Thread El Toozero
I've reproduced this bug on Eee 901, and Eee 1000H, both have i945gme,
and rt2860 wifi.

The steps listed in the bug reproduce the freeze 100% of the time.

The freeze will also occur when toggling wifi without prior bluetooth
toggling as well, but I cannot nail down 100% reproduction in this
scenario.

Also, the actual hardware toggle of the wifi happens; when the system is
restarted after the freeze, wifi is indeed disabled.

2009-09-03 Thread El Toozero
apt-cache policy indicates I already have gnome-bluetooth, and that it is
the newest version. Hitting about on the bluetooth properties screen gives
me the matching version number as the gnome-bluetooth package, so I must
have assigned this bug incorrectly to bluez-gnome, can you please move it to
gnome-bluetooth?

[Bug 422702] [NEW] [eee 901][karmic]bluetooth showing "unkown" status in indicator

2009-09-01 Thread El Toozero
Public bug reported:

Bluetooth indicator applet should correctly display Bluetooth: On, or
Bluetooth: Off when the adapter is in a functional state.

When disabling bluetooth the status witll show Bluetooth: Unknown but it
can be enabled by clicking properties then clicking the big "Turn
Bluetooth On" button, though the indicator still shows Bluetooth:
Unknown and disables all but the Properties option.

[Bug 401991] Re: GDM panel text is too dark to read (UNR)

2009-08-30 Thread El Toozero
This bug is fixed, as of the current builds GDM uses its own theme
instead of the super dark UNR stuff when that's been selected as the
preferred desktop environment.

** Changed in: gdm (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed => Fix Released

[Bug 419096] Re: [karmic][GMA950]Visual Effects cannot be enabled but compiz --replace works

2009-08-30 Thread El Toozero
As noted by ^arky^ in #ubuntu-bugs there is a workaround:
http://playingwithsid.blogspot.com/2009/08/how-to-override-compiz-blacklist.html

I have tested and this allows me to enable Visual Effects without
complaint.

[Bug 419096] Re: [karmic][GMA950]Visual Effects cannot be enabled but compiz --replace works

2009-08-30 Thread El Toozero
Interesting twist, on the Eee 1000H, identical CPU, GPU, Chipset, compiz
is enabled by default and can be enabled and disabled in the bios with
no problems.

How can I identify the difference that is causing this discrepancy in
behavior?

Thank you.

[Bug 420363] [NEW] [eee 901][karmic]system freeze when toggling wifi while bluetooth disabled

2009-08-28 Thread El Toozero
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluez-gnome

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:9.10

$ apt-cache policy bluez-gnome
bluez-gnome:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 1.8-1ubuntu1
  Version table:
 1.8-1ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/universe Packages

bluetooth should detect adapter status correctly, wifi toggling should
not freeze the system.

Steps to reproduce:
With bluetooth enabled, disable, adapter goes down, status icon shows x, says
disabled. OK
With bluetooth disabled, enable using gui, adapter goes up, status icon still
shows x, says unkown. NOT OK
While in "unknown" but functional status, use fn-f2 "rfkill" hotkey. OK
full system freeze, blank screen, only cursor shows, alt REISUB does nothing,
only holding power. NOT OK

bluetooth status when adapter is re-enabled is borked.

toggling rfkill while adapter is in borked state halts the system.

please advise how to assist.

2009-08-26 Thread El Toozero
No, it really isn't a fault with gnome-system-log, you're totally right
that it's doing it's job, unless those log names are depreciated and are
no longer valid files for it to parse by default. Thank you for
assigning correctly, learning more every day.

Visual Effects should be enabled by default on supported hardware.

On the Asus Eee 901 which has the intel 945gse chipset, compiz is not
enabled by default and cannot be enabled by selecting an accelerated

the cli is below, I can manually enable compiz by running the command
compiz --replace, screenshots are included.

[Bug 402018] Re: [i855] Choppy audio playback

2009-08-26 Thread El Toozero
I later realized I could force the version through synaptic, I hope this
is what you wanted me to do, it still did not alleviate the issue.

$ apt-cache policy libasound2
libasound2:
  Installed: 1.0.20-3ubuntu4~ubuntuaudiodev1

Since it did not resolve the issue and the major/minor versions match,
can I remove the forcing of the version? I still do not have Pulseaudio
in the list of available outputs in vlc preferences.

Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release:9.10

The choppiness I experience seems to be happening at the beginning of
the file, not sure if it's a buffering issue or what, the number of Lost
buffers is not consistent other than some are lost on each played file,
usually near the beginning.

[Bug 402018] Re: [i855] Choppy audio playback

2009-08-25 Thread El Toozero
I do not have an entry to explicitly select pulseaudio, I see "Default",
and "ALSA Audio Output", and I get the same behavior in both modes.

I tested by setting the option, closing vlc, relaunching, and opening
both a .m4a and .mp3 files.

[Bug 418961] [NEW] hibernate option shown when no swap file exists karmic

2009-08-25 Thread El Toozero
Public bug reported:

Hibernate should be disabled system-wide when no swap space exists.

I have a hibernate button on the shut down menu and my machine supports
hibernation, but when I press the button I get a response as if the
machine would suspend and the screen blanks for a moment, but then
returns as quickly as it went away, with no warning as to what happend
or what failed. I know that I cannot hibernate because I did not
allocate a swap file on the install.

In addition, during the install when opting to proceed with no swap, it
should be noted in the existing alert that hibernate will be disable,
and it should be disabled, please advise where I should post that as its
own bug/suggestion.

Spurious icons should not display in favorites category.

There is a blank icon in the favorites list, my netbook-launcher
settings were migrated from UNR 9.04, and I previously made use of the
"bookmark function" (dragging a url in text form onto the "Go Home"
applet creates a web-link in the favorites category). I have since
removed those icons but the "blank icon" shown in the screenshot
remains.

[Bug 418956] [NEW] fbreader display blank when switching applications in fullscreen mode in karmic

2009-08-25 Thread El Toozero
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fbreader

Description:Ubuntu karmic (development branch)

Alt-tab should allow switching between full-screen applications and back
without corrupting the display.

Enter fullscren mode by hitting ENTER, switch to another running
application by using alt-tab, return to fbreader using alt-tab, display
is blank. Forcing a rotate action (hotkey R) refreshes and restores the
display, so does toggling fullscreen display.

fbreader should be functional in fullscreen mode.

By opening a title or even from the initial "about fbreader" page, and
entering fullscreen by hitting ENTER key, scrolling is performed but the
display is not updated to show the results. When exiting fullscreen
mode by pressing ENTER again, the display is updated and the scroll bar
will reflect any scrolling that took place.

Rotation using the hotkey R works in fullscreen.

[Bug 418806] Re: [users-admin] Unlock button greyed out as admin

2009-08-25 Thread El Toozero
Thank you, update-manager gui was reporting an update to update-manager-
core and would not apply it, leading me to falsely believe that my
system was fully up to date.

After running apt-get upgrade and resolving packages incorrectly "held
back" via the command line, I was able to fully update and I now see the
nifty new button with the keys on it, and it works.

I guess invalid is the best status, thank you again.

[Bug 402018] Re: [i855] Choppy audio playback

2009-08-25 Thread El Toozero
I can confirm this bug is affecting Karmic Koala alpha 4.

When I bring up the "media information" while playing in VLC 1.0.1 I
notice the audio skips out as the "Lost buffers" is incrementing, audio
playback works fine using gstreamer plugin in Rythmbox.

I do not have a swap file but I have plenty of free memory:

milk...@leslie:~$ free -m
 total used free sharedbuffers cached
Mem: 2005695 1309 0 37396
-/+ buffers/cache:262 1743
Swap:0 0 0

Please let me know if there is any testing I can help with.

[Bug 352865] Re: [i945gme] enabling visual affects causes graphics glitches for netbook remix (Jaunty Beta)

2009-07-29 Thread El Toozero
After running with the Intel Accelerated PPA, and adding the UXA
acceleration option to xorg.conf, the tearing issue is resolved however
the sluggish performance on the netbook-launcher happens, I have removed
the acceleration line since.

I'm content to run without video acceleration until 9.10 is released.
