[Bug 144239] Re: bug wifi rt61 gutsy

2007-12-26 Thread Id2ndR
I have try on hardy alpha2. I have a OvisLink EVO-W54USB v2 usb dongle
(148f:2573).
The driver is in linux-image-2.6.24-2 package (not ubuntu restricted module as
in gutsy).

I need rt73usb to use my hardware. As for gutsy, rt2500usb is loaded but is not
necessary (but that's not a trouble).
I can connect to my AP (WPA) using NM. I can load google, but it works for few
kb only. After about 1Mb, it stop working. It stay connected to AP but I can't
ping my AP.

[Bug 117044] Re: Unable to umount properly removable USB devices

2007-12-25 Thread Id2ndR
I have quite the same trouble :

- Open gparted and choose an external drive.
- Unmount one partition
- gparted will unmount it but it will be mounted automatically (maybe by
gnome-volume-manager)

Consequently, gparted won't succesfully work on this partition (it won't format
it by example).
To succesfully work on this partition, you need tu unmount the partition after
gparted did it using umount command.

[Bug 129908] Re: NM cannot distinguish between two networks with the same SSID at all

2007-12-17 Thread Id2ndR
I'm in the same case.

In fact NM knows mac adresses of acces points (AP), and nm-applet store it in
/system/networking/wireless/networks/ESSID/bssids (use gconf-editor to browse
it).
But it will also scan for new AP and thus can try to connect to an AP with same
essid if it found it before the correct AP.

There is an other trouble with that : you can have several AP for one network
and you want to use the best AP (ie the one with the strongest signal). This is
impossible too.

There is a workaround, but not a good solution : use this command and reconnect
nm-applet (in general you have to reconnect nm-applet 2 or 3 times, I don't
know why).
$ sudo iwconfig eth1 ap 00:0B:86:82:F2:60
(You should adapt the mac adress and your interface).

[Bug 129908] Re: NM cannot distinguish between two networks with the same SSID at all

2007-12-17 Thread Id2ndR
It would be great if nm-applet was able to check if there is one or more
AP, and ask the user witch one it should connect to if there are
several.

If this can't quickly be fixed, it would be great to have a control on
this using gconf-editor (lock the list of bssid, and chose an order or
check strength).

[Bug 150193] Re: Remote Login via XDMCP is not working in Ubuntu Gusty/7.10

2007-12-10 Thread Id2ndR
Jose,

No I haven't made a mistake. I put an other example. Here we want to do the
same thing except that we also need to patch the source.
To resume :
- get the source : apt-get source (instead of wget)
- build environment for compilation : apt-get build-dep
- patch the source (this wasn't done for the other package)
- build package : dpkg-buildpackage -b -rfakeroot (I just don't know what is
-uc switch that Kip used)

Re: [Bug 150193] Re: Remote Login via XDMCP is not working in Ubuntu Gusty/7.10

2007-12-09 Thread Id2ndR

I managed to go as far as downloading the source and applying the patch
however when I am having troubles rebuilding the package. I gave it up
for today but will try again tomorrow.

 Thanks again for yr guidance.

There are explanation in bug #173890. I put these bellow (the package
should be updated) :

Instead of adding the -d option to dpkg-buildpackage you can do the
following command before anything else (this installs the required
dependencies).

sudo apt-get build-dep flashplugin-nonfree

That downloads and installs all of the dependencies for the flash plugin
(including development dependencies).

So the corrected instructions would be:

sudo apt-get build-dep flashplugin-nonfree
wget
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10756602/flashplugin-nonfree_9.0.115.0ubuntu2.tar.gz
tar -zxvf flashplugin-nonfree_9.0.115.0ubuntu2.tar.gz
cd flashplugin-nonfree-9.0.115.0ubuntu2
dpkg-buildpackage -b -rfakeroot

[Bug 131133] Re: [gutsy] no sound on Dell Latitude D630/D830/Inspiron 1300/Precision M4300/Vostro 1500/1700/Apple Aluminium iMac/Acer TM6292 pci id 8086:284b

2007-10-21 Thread Id2ndR
On a Toshiba Satellite U200, sound is OK on feisty and gutsy (without
any modification).

The only remaining troubles are :
- mute, as explain in comment #96 of ricolai). Look at bug #151108.
- [0-50%] level of master channel that don't work. Look at bug #93600.
- Sometime, an azx_get_response timeout just before going to hibernate. There
is two part : switching to polling mode... and switching to single_cmd
mode... (after about 20 seconds). On resume no sound can be heard from
speakers but it can be heard on headphones if there are plugged.

There troubles aren't so important to be fixed, but I hope this can help to fix
one part of this bug, different of the part you all have encountered. I also
think these tree troubles are linked and may all be fixed at the same time.
Please add any comment about these troubles on bug #151108 and #93600 (as this
is not the main trouble of this bug).

[Bug 155373] nm-applet ty to unlock the keyring (ask for password) on resume. Just after the unlock screen, wheras network is allready up.

2007-10-21 Thread Id2ndR
Public bug reported:

Release : Gutsy

Steps :
- Connect to a secured wireless network, and use gnome keyring to store the key
- Suspend, and resume
- Unlock the screen (make sure that you type the password in the lock screen ;
bug #153544 explain the trouble)
- Don't enter the password required by nm-applet (most of the time, not
always), and look at the two green round of the applet. Try to ping google to
see that you connectivity is OK.

Expected behavior :
nm-applet should not ask password whereas it has already connect the network.

[Bug 76328] Re: Network connection error after laptop suspend

I also encountered this error with Gutsy.
This doesn't occur all the time but maybe 5%.

NetworkManager also use 100% cpu after unlocking the session, and I have
to kill the process before restarting it with dbus event (otherwise
network doesn't go up). I think this is linked to this, but I should
check it again.

Same trouble (Gutsy release).

I don't see the cursor on the password field. Actually I press enter (without
entering password) until I can get the cursor in the field.
When doing this, and after unlocking the display, I saw the gnome-keyring
dialog than promp my password to get the wireless key. (This is an other bug
since NetworkManager seems to be already connected because I can see the 2
green rounds).

2007-10-17 Thread Id2ndR
Same trouble with a Toshiba Satellite U200 (gutsy).
Removing processor (and related module), as explain in comment 7, work well.

Otherwise, I got the yellow linu on the screen. After moving the
mouse, a led show me hd activity. After moving the mouse a second time,
linu disappear and is quickly replace by output related to usb, and
then lock screen appear.

What the trouble with processor module ? And how do you find that it was
related to this ?

rt73 (legacy from cvs) are working.

rt73usb (from rt2x00 new driver), include with gutsy, are sources of
troubles (see bug #139070).
rt2x00 cvs from serialmonkey doesn't compile anymore on gutsy (because
of changes in API, made in linux 2.6.23).

So I think we need to close this bug for rt61 (and other legacy), and
follow bug #139070 for rt73usb.

[Bug 147731] Re: This package prevent .local adresses to work

2007-10-11 Thread Id2ndR
I don't. But I can't test it anymore since I already upgraded. I didn't found
error on output. Update manager froze at step 2 or 3 (just before installing
package, and just after telling what packages aren't maintained by Ubuntu),
I don't know if the bug is real. Maybe french http server mirror wasn't
up-to-date, maybe it's normal that it take long time (more than 2 minutes).
Others people may have reported it if this is a real bug.

I'm a subscriber of bug #115616 too (in which evms package is a source of
troubles). If a solution to remove a package using conflict is possible, it
would be great to use it here, wouldn't it ?
Otherwise, I'll change bug's status to invalid.

Re: [Bug 144448] Re: rt2500usb module not working with asus wl-167g wifi stick

2007-10-09 Thread Id2ndR

thank You for pointing me to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139070 but the stick I'm talking about
is an rt25 card not an rt73 one. So, new kernel, same behaviour, here it
 is the details:

Yes. But rt2x00 is a driver for several chips. So if rt2x00 is update,
it may help you too.

dmesg output: what is this wmaster0 thing?

Interface for master mode (access point).

According to your ifconfig and iwconfig output, your wireless interface
got an ip (192.168.1.13), and is connected to an AccessPoint. So what
about the dhcp server ? Can you ping your router (may be 192.168.1.1) ?
and still the stick does not work; this is it! Hope the info is of some
use. Next I'm going to do some tests compiling modules downloaded from
the internet and I'll let You know what the outcome is. FYI the fedora
kernel driving this card beautifully is release 2.6.22.9-91.fc7, also
the 2.6.23 kernel from the fedora development version works well with
this card. As for the serialmonkey rt2570 cvs the last I've tried was
 rt2570-cvs-2007092413.

Driver include in Ubuntu isn't rt2570 one, it's the new rt2x00 that will
be release with future kernel.

You can use rt2570 but it doesn't work with networkManager.

2007-10-09 Thread Id2ndR
Public bug reported:

Module used : snd_hda_intel
Device : 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High
Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)
System : Ubuntu Gutsy (should be the same with older release)

Step to reproduce :
- Open an audio file, and hear it from speakers
- Mute sound (with gnome applet for example) : it will mute Master channel
= Sound won't be mute
- Do the same with headphones (or just plug headphone)
= Sound will be mute

This bug is NOT a duplicate of bugs related to outputs on speakers and
headphones at the same time. Here speakers are mute when headphones are plugged.

This bug is maybe link with the fact that volume level doesn't change
from about 0 to 50% (on both speakers and headphones outputs).

If bug #139070 is solved by an update of the driver, this should solve
your trouble too. But nobody seems to have worked on it yet. Subscribe

[Bug 139070] Re: [Gutsy] Ralink 2573 usb adapter does not work out of the box

2007-10-08 Thread Id2ndR
I downloaded rt73-CVS. It need linux-headers and then $ make sudo make
install
I blacklisted rt2x00, rt2500usb, rt73usb. So rt73 module was loaded. I'm using
it since few minutes, without trouble (just a reassociation that worked fine).

I also tried with rt2x00-CVS but I failed to compile it (symbols not
resolved).

I don't know which version is use in linux-ubuntu-modules.

Hopelessly, rt2x00 drivers is currently not in linux main tree (there is no
rt2x00 folder in drivers/net/wireless
(http://hjemli.net/git/linux/tree/drivers/net/wireless)).
But this will change, according to
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/ivd/rt2x00.git;a=blob;f=drivers/net/wireless/rt2x00/rt2x00.h
 :).
So we still need drivers include in linux-ubuntu-modules for a few time.

except of the subject : both rt73 and rt73usb support NetworkManager, great :).

[Bug 139070] Re: [Gutsy] Ralink 2573 usb adapter does not work out of the box

2007-10-08 Thread Id2ndR
Sorry I was wrong with last message. I just forgot to unload rt2500usb and
rt73usb modules, so I was still using them.
So these modules work for me, until I got errors as described in rt2x00 forum.
Time before getting these error is variable (from 5 minutes to 3 hours). Once
these occurred, I can't use wifi anymore, and there also are troubles to
restart the computer (NetworkManger seems to wait a response from the driver).

So I'm know using rt73, and it don't work with NetworkManager. I used
rutil to configure wifi. I haven't encountered trouble yet but if I got
one, I'll describe it here.

linux-ubuntu-modules should include new rt2x00 driver since it work with
NetworkManager, and new wifi stack.
So it would be great if the driver was update to latest cvs version.

[Bug 147800] Re: Gutsy : bluetooth printing was working but is not. hp:/ URI don't work too (probably for the same reason)

2007-10-04 Thread Id2ndR
The updates fixes hp:/ URI (this part was a duplicate).

But there still is a problem with bluetooth :

stopped with status 1!

E [04/Oct/2007:12:19:43 +0200] PID 26890 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip)

This probably is an other udev rule to change.

No it's not a duplicate since it is able to restart. And I also can login after

[Bug 147731] This package prevent .local adresses to work

2007-10-01 Thread Id2ndR
Public bug reported:

I used Ubuntu Feisty and the package libdns22 was installed on my
computer and libdns32 too.

I recently installed a new computer on Gutsy, and make an upgrade from
the other one. The new could use .local adresses, but the old couldn't.
After looking at packages installed on both, I founded that libdns22
prevent to use .local adresses. After removing it, it worked fine.

If you need more information about MulticastDNS,
http://avahi.org/wiki/AvahiAndUnicastDotLocal

So, is there a way to automaticaly remove libdns22 from all computer
running ubuntu that have libdns32 ?

[Bug 147800] Gutsy : bluetooth printing was working but is not

2007-10-01 Thread Id2ndR
Public bug reported:

I'm using Gutsy, and it's up-to-date.

Once month ago, I was able to print to my bluetooth HP printer, after added
very easily this with new system-config-printer.
However, if the printer is OK, and the setup of system-config-printer too, it's
not working anymore.

Logs from /var/log/cups/error_log :
E [01/Oct/2007:21:22:26 +0200] [Job 27] Can't open Bluetooth connection

I can see that my bluetooth stick *doesn't blink* asit usually did while
sending a printing request.
But I can use the backend directly and see it blinking :
$ /usr/lib/cups/backend/bluetooth
network bluetooth://0005164004A2 Unknown deskjet 995c S/N MY1581C042AP

I don't know how to print the job directly, using the backend. So I can't tell
you more.

[Bug 139070] Re: [Gutsy] Ralink 2573 usb adapter does not work out of the box

2007-09-28 Thread Id2ndR
Hi,

I founded the trouble : rt2500usb should NOT be loaded at the same time
that rt73usb : the two drivers are different.

How to fix it :
$ cd /lib/modules/`uname -r`/ubuntu/wireless/rt2x00
$ sudo mv rt2500usb.ko rt2500usb.ko_bak
$ sudo depmod -a

Then unplug your device,
remove all remaining rt* module : $ sudo rmmod rt73usb rt2x00usb rt2x00lib
rt2500usb
Plug your device.
It should work.

In fact, there are bad vid:pid identifiers in rt2500, that should only be in
one module. I put bellow the list of duplicate identifiers :
v148Fp2573
v050Dp705Ad
v050Dp7050d

Mine is v148Fp2573 and should only be rt73usb.

anything, but you should remove cvs version), and if it works, just add
a comment to say that you have the same problem with your product.

At nearly each modprobe, I looked at a new /dev/mm* block, but there wasn't
any. (An sd card was present)

I still don't understand well what module should create the block in
/dev. Maybe we need to see how it works for those who may have it
working.

I'll tried to download the latest daily cdimage and test it.

Ok, this bug is realy fixed for me on two computers :
- An old one using intel 815 chipset, and now using ata_piix linux driver with
82801AA IDE Controller
- A new one using intel G35 chipset using pata_marvel linux driver (bug #134881)

I tested it with ubuntu livecd daily 20070921.1 on both.

Same for me. I can add that the led blinking is very very short. I don't

informed of an sd card presence (adding the fact that there is nothing

[Bug 90771] Re: Suspend to ram very slow and not reliable on Toshiba U200

2007-09-14 Thread Id2ndR
Thanks for your work Peter. Unfortunatly this doesn't work yet for me :(.
I deleted old debian package and get the new ones. I removed and purged old
ones and then install the new ones.
I rebooted and tried (from both gdm option and while my session was logged).
in both cases, it still toke about 5 minutes to go to sleep. It toke less than
30 seconds to swith the HDD off (it make a sound). The fan speed increased a
little after 2 minutes.

Maybe there is an other thing to do with U200, according to
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7780#c106

I'm not sure about that, but is the case important to identify the hardware ?
There is SATELLITE in the patch wheras I can see that using lshw :
product: Satellite U200
vendor: TOSHIBA

Peter Schwenke, I got an U200. I installed 2.6.20-16-ref-generic from your
packages (except
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.20-16-ref-386_2.6.20.5-16.29_i386.deb that doesn't
meet all dependancies).
I have reboot on this new kernel but it still suspend in about 5 minutes. So
I'm not sure that the second path have been applied. Is there a way to know it ?

[Bug 134881] Re: ide cdrom not detected

2007-09-12 Thread Id2ndR
In fact, the drive isn't detected at all by linux kernel.
The bios is able to boot on CD and I can see Ubuntu menu and chose to boot
Ubuntu live CD.
But after having loaded Linux Kernel, it won't boot and it will show the error
of Bug #106864 (this bug is link to it, and I think it's a duplicate). So if I
want to boot Ubuntu, I should copy the content of the cd in an other media that
will be detected by the kernel (as opposite of cdrom drive).

Tom Dowden got the Toshiba A120-151 (comment 148)

These 3 laptop have an unusable SD card reader with 2.6.20-16.

[Bug 129150] Re: Cannot set DNS provided by my ISP/Question 8949

2007-08-01 Thread Id2ndR
Just add you dns IP's to your /etc/resolv.conf. You shoulnd't modify
dhclient3.conf.
Normally you shouldn't either modify /etc/network/interfaces as your netgear
router should give dns IP's while you connect your computer to it.

You can try to start Feisty LiveCD to see if it works fine. I think
you've got a trouble in your configuration's files.

[Bug 110389] Re: depends on apache, but requires nfs or smb?

2007-07-05 Thread Id2ndR
Neither nfs nor smb.

Look at /usr/share/doc/gnome-user-share/README to understand how it works.
I haven't tested it yet.
