[Bug 776204] Re: hang freeze

2011-05-25 Thread MacRules
Indeed I become to think this is a compiz bug.
I have had no issue for some time now running on a non-accelerated desktop.
Can you please explain how to use metacity?
It seems to be installed both.

If the bug is indeed in compiz, it is one of the most annoying ever: my pc
freezes and I have to hard reset.
Is there anything I can do to provide more info?

If I reinstall it, should it be running when the command is issued?

[Bug 669569] Re: make hangs without even giving any error on 10.10

2011-05-08 Thread MacRules
Hi Ruslans, thank you for this hint.
This stops the hang indeed, unfortunately it gives other compile errors on
11.04:

ubuntu@ubuntu-WIM-2030:~/Downloads/acerhk-0.5.35$ make
make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build
SUBDIRS=/home/ubuntu/Downloads/acerhk-0.5.35 modules

make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.38-8-generic'

I guess devs would have to fix that too in the repos, but there seems to
be no maintainer.

so in the end I found the driver, did an insmod and depmod -a and it worked

No clue why module-assistant seems borked.
Now to find a way to have the keys working.

Do you think there will be a more permanent fix?
Does module manager use dkms?
It would be great if it could rebuild after a kernel update.

2011-05-07 Thread MacRules
Hi,

I did try to build this module on 11.04 with module-assistant and it fails.
It's bad: when I type make : nothing happens!
So building in module-assistant stops at 0% .

It sucks: like others I cannot use my laptop after sleep, because wireless is
dead.
Worse than that: all other connected wireless devices do not work either!
They all have this hardware switch message.

Ubuntu, please fix this.

I consider this high priority.

[Bug 776204] Re: hang freeze

2011-05-03 Thread MacRules
After some time of using Cairo-dock after the upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04 I
have issues that freeze my screen.
I have had several times a complete hang of my PC.
In some cases I could ctrl+alt+f1 to get to a terminal.
Top showed compiz running at 100% cpu.
It seems to be a cairo/compiz issue.
Perhaps this is related to the changes for Unity in Ubuntu?

I experienced this in both the classic login and the unity login.

Similar issues are described here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cairo-dock/+bug/509419

I am not sure what else to rapport, I have been unable to make a decent apport.
Please post if you need more info

When I create mails for that account, with the draft storage set to local, when
I press save and close the mail, the mail is GONE.
When I change storage to the sent folder on the server, it does work.
I lost a few mails before noticing and I did not always have this issue, so it
might have been introduced in a recent update.

please fix this issue, losing data is not acceptable imho.

[Bug 734563] Re: [gnome3] Upgrading to Gnome3 PPA breaks Ubuntu theme defaults

2011-04-08 Thread MacRules
indeed.
I seem to have fixed it (partially) by doing:
sudo apt-get remove gnome-accessibility-themes
and then
sudo apt-get install gnome-themes-standard
Then install gnome-tweak-tool and set the theme to Adwaita and reboot.

I do feel things look a bit crummy, but maybe that is because of
removing some ubuntu themes as well.

If anyone knows how to fix this like it should, please let us know :)

[Bug 19232] Re: Window resizing handle not present in many apps

2010-12-14 Thread MacRules
I have had this issue from version 7 of Ubuntu until the current 10.10.
This is VERY ANNOYING.

I do not agree with the statement that this is an app bug: I do agree that it
would be nice to have the right corner with this,
but the corner without the triangle should work normal as well.
At the moment I get RSI when trying to enlarge a window.

Can that specifik problem be fixed? so enlarge the area on the side of
the windows that activates the resize tool.

Thank you for your reply.
I posted here because I consider the current behaviour for my device in 10.10 a
bug, since the cursor does not repond to a single touch on the screen with one
finger.
I am looking for a workable multitouch solution, hoping to find it in 10.10.

Reading these comments I guess I better update to Natty to start testing
multitouch stuff on my tablet.
Is that correct and if so, where do I post bugs?

[Bug 637106] Re: XInput single-touch events aren't always filtered

2010-10-04 Thread MacRules
Hi Duncan,

My device is identified as a GeneralTouch Win7 TwoFinger device.
The hardware ID is 0dfc:0001 . I am using a driver developed by Stephane Chatty
from enac.fr .

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 where I have this issue, but I have also a
10.04 install with the 2.3.35 kernel from 10.10 running with the same
driver, and I do not have the issue there.

About calibration: the pointer is very accurate compared to where I put my
finger, so I have not had the need to calibrate it yet.
Could you explain how I should do that?
I'd be happy to try it out and post back.
I also had a reply from Chase Douglas for some more device info.

Just tell me what you need to know and I'd be happy to help to fix this
:).

[Bug 549447] Re: eGalax touchscreen configured as tablet

2010-08-28 Thread MacRules
Hi all,

I am not sure if this is the proper place, but I'll just try and hope nobody
is pissed or anyone points me in the right direction.
I have a touchscreen branded GeneralTouch with id 0dfc:0001 .
It seems to get only partly loaded, because I just get no screen input.
This is my Xorg log:
(II) config/udev: Adding input device Sensing Win7-TwoFinger (/dev/input/event5)

(II) Sensing Win7-TwoFinger: initialized for absolute axes.
(II) config/udev: Adding input device Sensing Win7-TwoFinger (/dev/input/mouse1)
(II) No input driver/identifier specified (ignoring)

I also would like to point you all to the xinput_calibrator deb (also source en
Fedora rpm):
http://github.com/tias/xinput_calibrator/downloads

When I run that, no input is registered from touching the screen, but my
mouse clicks from external mouse are.

Does anyone know what I can do to get it working?
I was thinking about the usb quircks, but I do not know what 0040 means, so I
do not know how to get the whole string for my device.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: [Bug 549447] Re: eGalax touchscreen configured as tablet

2010-08-28 Thread MacRules
hi CMD,

you are welcome, thanks for pointing out the PPA :)!

I am on 10.04 now and already tried the vendor driver with no succes.
It also did not work on 9.10.

When I blacklist usbtouchscreen, there is no device loaded and nothing is
recognised in Xorg.

About the vendor: I do not know exactly. Unfortunately the drivers are
binary and they do not work for me.
I did not find a contact email adress, I think I should look harder :).

I prefer evdev, but it seems hard.

With usbtouchscreen driver loaded i get a proper input device, but no input
if i touch the screen.
This has been the problem from the beginning: no input is registered.

When usbtouchscreen is loaded, input -list says:
Sensing Win7-TwoFinger id=15 [slave pointer (2)]
(when not loaded it is not there.)

I am out of ideas, If you have any, please let me know!

Subject: [Bug 549447] Re: eGalax touchscreen configured as tablet
Hi MacRules, thanks to point to xinput_calibrator .deb package (at
last!).

For first, you have a touch-screen from a different vendor, GeneralTouch,
not eGalax, this vendor make its own controllers? perhaps take one from
another vendor and remark/rename (this is correct term?) it as theirs.
Anyway, try drivers from your vendor:
http://www.generaltouch.com/zmp/Driver.htm
This: http://www.generaltouch.com/zmp/gtusbdriver4ubuntuv1.1d2beta.tgz
(vendor says Applicable For 32bit FC 8/9/12, ubuntu 8.04/8.10/9.04/9.10

But If you want to make this to work with evdev driver, let's try this:
-test the device with: xinput -test device id and touch the screen, you
see something? (to see device id use xinput -list)
-if you are using evdev driver, blacklist usbtouchscreen driver, write
blacklist usbtouchscreen line to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

The touchscreen is a 7 resistive vga monitor.

Every touch makes the cursor move to the upper left corner and register the
click there.
My calibration values, coming from an ubuntu 8.10 installation using
evtouch, are loaded through a udev rule. Changing them or using no values
at all for calibration does not change anything.

If I install the eGalax driver
(http://home.eeti.com.tw/web20/eGalaxTouchDriver/linuxDriver.htm), the
device is listed twice in xinput list and if I disable the device using
evdev, I can calibrate the screen using the eGalax tool and everythings
works. If I don't disable the device using evdev, everything works too,
except that every touch is preceded by a touch to the upper left corner.
But I'd rather get it working using only evdev.

[Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat (Feisty, Gutsy)

2010-05-04 Thread MacRules
I have a similar problem.
It seems this problem has been around for YEARS!
Can somebody please pick this up?
My problem:
On a netbook Mivvy G310 (Viooo Corporation PT17) I have key repeats for at
least volume up, volume down, mute and the camera button.
They are all used together with the Fn key.

It seems there is no key-release event, so I tried this solution:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=974723
which dit not work, see my post:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9233246postcount=66

The web is crawling with these kind of bugs and I can't find a proper solution
anywhere!
The netbooks are meant to but Ubuntu on the map as an OS, but because of this
bug, they are not production ready!

Please devs, help us fix this, I am willing to put a max of effort in solving
this.
I attached a smolt file from Suse with all my sysinfo.
Hope this helps, please let me know if I can do anything to help.

[Bug 311353] Re: volume control doesn't work with HP laptop volume buttons

2010-04-28 Thread MacRules
This problem is still there in Lucid Beta, 1 day before release.
Researching tought me that this seems to be caused by a combination of FN + a
key (for me the sound keys) which do not send a release signal when released.
For me the key codes are 113,114 and 115.
A work around is indeed assigned different keys, which i think sucks.

There is a kernel patch posted here, which maybe a solution, read here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/271706 .

My Mivvy G310, a rebranded Viooo Corp PT17 or something, has the issue of
sending no release event.
I hope this issue will be addressed properly.

in my case I can see no key-release event is given for the FN + sound keys

Hope they find a fix!

[Bug 271706] Re: Toshiba Satellite U300 volume wheel sticking

2010-04-28 Thread MacRules
This bug still affects me on My Mivvy G310 netbook (seems Viooo Corp PT17
model).
Is there an easy way to apply the fix to adress this machine too?
The problem is also that showkey shows no release events for my volume keys.

[Bug 311353] Re: volume control doesn't work with HP laptop volume buttons

2010-04-28 Thread MacRules
still an issue on my netbook, a Mivvy G310 (rebranded Viooo Corp PT17 or
something).
Sound keys do not report a release event for that netbook, which seems to be
the problem.
Also this seems to be a kernel problem, not evdev.
kbd addressed it somehow, but should be addressed on a lower level (kernel) to
be fixed properly.

there is hope:
For U300 see here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/271706

workaround is to reassign keys or patch evdev (the former is the
easiest, else see : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=974723 )

i read somewhere kernel devs are looking for proper handling, hope this
will be fixed!

[Bug 552375] Re: gvfsd-smb crashed while mounting smb share

2010-04-13 Thread MacRules
I can confirm this bug for a just updated 10.04 beta.
It occurs when mouting via nautilus en use the password remember option.
When just typing the password and not remembering it, the share is opened.

So this indeed seems to be related with saving/retaining the password in the
keyring.
I read about some changes in 2.30 to the keyring, those might be related.
If anyone needs more info, please let me know.

[Bug 544847] Re: cant browse/mount windows shares in nautilus 10.04

2010-04-12 Thread MacRules
I also have this problem on 10.04 beta in Nautilus 2.30.
I read somewhere it might have something to do with a gnome keyring.

I get this error:
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply
(timeout by message bus)

That seems to be right, because if I mount a share and choose to forget
password, it simply works.
So something goes wrong with saving the password, or retrieving it, it seems.

Hope this helps anyone and hope it will be fixed!

2010-04-12 Thread MacRules
well, it seems the karmic-updates contains kernel 2.6.32-20.33 and lucid want
.21 or something.
there is also a .58 version for linux-image-2.6.32.20.58 so something goes
wrong there.

If I check synaptic while lycid update is busy/gives error, i see that .21
version.
When I check to update I get a dependency error for linux-generic.

I will try to disable karmic-updates en downgrade.

i downgraded to kernel 2.6.32-19 and did a apt-get update with lucid sources.
It worked, but I still have the kernel problem after the update.

Besides that, my keyboard in my netbook is not recognised anymore, and
after a keyboard config my left mouse button stopt working, similar to
what i sometimes have in vmware workstation.

I noticed that the 2.6.32-30 kernel for lucid was rebuilt about an hour ago.
The might be busy with an update?
Hope this bring some fixes, because my system is pretty broken.
Some xorg packages and update-manager could not be fetched either.
sighhh, the life of a beta tester :).

I hope this helps the devs fix it!
