[Bug 1850778] [NEW] Audio output changes to hdmi after hibernate
Public bug reported: This wasn't present in 19.04: When returning from hibernate, audio devices is changed to hdmi (gp104 device), which is not even plugged in. When playing audio and changing volume one has to go into volume settings or pavucontrol to change the output/controlled device back to "Line out". Disabling "module-switch-on-port-available" is not an option because that disable automatic switching to headphone output. I've tried disabling the gp104 device in pavucontrol, but this has no effect, it keeps switching to it. This is not specific to the nvidia driver's gp104 hdmi output though, to be clear, because the same thing happened when I had pulseaudio-dlna active -- it switched to those devices after wake, which was even worse because playing audio on the computer after a wake-from-sleep kept launching my chromecast/other dlna devices in my apartment. [Bug 1761739] Re: Submits a message to a remote server even when "No, don't send any info" is selected
The fact that you claim to not log or store the IP address is beside my point, which is that the IP address is _transferred_ out of the machine even when the user said no to submitting any information. If consent is your legal basis for submitting information to Ubuntu, it is not valid for transferring the 'I do not want information to be submitted' message over HTTP, independent of what story you provide on what you do with the personal information once it arrive. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1761739 Title: Submits a message to a remote server even when "No, don't send any info" is selected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-initial-setup/+bug/1761739/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1761739] Re: Submits a message to a remote server even when "No, don't send any info" is selected
Of course IP information is sent. Any HTTP connection will pass on the IP address of the other end during establishment of its TCP/IP connection. The fact that HTTP is used over TCP is enough to send the IP address. It could be avoided by enforcing the use of Tor or similar, but that is purely academic given that most people are not using a service to hide their IP address.
Note, with the current privacy regulations, if Canonical uses consent as the base for submitting this information for collection, I am quite sure it would be against the law to send IP address to a Canonical server when consent is missing. Sending IP address provides time, location and the fact that a given version of Ubuntu is being installed to Ubuntu, and every network sniffing entity on the way like NSA and GCHQ. This set of information is by definition personal information, and by combining the IP address with other sources it is often possible to identify the individual uniquely (for example if the user uses Facebook, log into her email etc). As consent is obviously missing if the user declined to submit the information about his machine, Canonical would have to come up with another basis for the collection. It would be hard to argue it is vital for the operation of the service provided, one of the other options for data collection. It is probably a good idea to check out the GDPR provisions available, to reduce the chance of a large fine.

I applied that workaround, but no crash files have appeared in /var/crash. To be clear, this bug pertains to hibernate resume only. The screen simply blanks out. [Bug 1734839] [NEW] ncmpcpp in artful fails to connect
Public bug reported: ncmpcpp: Installed: 0.7.4-1build3 Candidate: 0.7.4-1build3 Version table: *** 0.7.4-1build3 500 500 http://no.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu artful/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status When I start ncmpcpp, I am met with the message "ncmpcpp: connection refused", but there is no sign of this in mpd.log on the server. On my zesty machine it works perfectly, even though it is using the same version of the package, and both are using the exact same config file (copied across with scp). Other mpd clients like gmpc works fine from the artful machine. The really weird thing is that if I launch it with 'ncmpcpp -h hostname -p 6600' it works. I have double- and triple-checked the config file, including rewriting it all by hand and removing everything non-essential. I also tried upgrading to v0.8.1 from https://launchpad.net/~aguignard/+archive/ubuntu/ppa, but that gives the same result. The only thing I can think of is that something must have changed from zesty to artful to cause this, but it's beyond me to figure out what. Something in the dependencies (libbost?), maybe. Should I file this upstream, or is there something else I can try? I really want to avoid switching to another mpd client. [Bug 1609368] Re: 'snap find' no longer lists all available snaps
As to "never what the user wanted", I beg to differ - it was _exactly_ what I wanted :) 'apt list' will list all available packages, I expected 'snap find' to behave in a similar matter. If this feature is now gone, that is sad IMHO. I hope at least the documentation can be updated to reflect this. [Bug 1525105] [NEW] yubikey login segfaults /bin/login
Public bug reported: I received a Yubikey 4 yesterday, and attempted to set up authentication with it on my Wily system. After installing the necessary packages, I ran 'dpkg-reconfigure libpam-yubico' and added my ID number and key. When I now try to log in on a VC, I first enter my username, then I get prompted for my Yubikey. I press the button on the key and immediately get thrown back to a VC with a login prompt and the following message in the log: [1805628.239225] login[29456]: segfault at 0 ip 7f16bcb0030f sp 7f16b1d0a540 error 4 in libc-2.21.so[7f16bca84000+1c] Logins via SSH work, however; I get prompted for the Yubikey, press the button, enter password at the next prompt and I'm logged in. It seems authentication methods that do not open a network connection work, since if I edit /etc/pam.d/common-auth to use challenge-response authentication instead it works fine. The problem is that this will not work with a remote SSH connection as it requires hardware access. (I tried upgrading to the packages in ppa:yubico/stable, but there was no difference - /bin/login still segfaults. I reverted to the original Wily packages and tried again before filing this bug.) libpam-yubico: Installed: 2.19-1 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10 Package: libpam-yubico 2.19-1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.2.0-18.22-generic 4.2.3 Uname: Linux 4.2.0-18-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.19.1-0ubuntu5 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: XFCE Date: Fri Dec 11 08:27:52 2015 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-07-16 (147 days ago) InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" - Release amd64 (20150422.1) SourcePackage: yubico-pam UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to wily on 2015-10-20 (51 days ago) ** Affects: yubico-pam (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug wily -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1525105 Title: yubikey login segfaults /bin/login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/yubico-pam/+bug/1525105/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1447556] Re: AMD radeon hangs/crashes
Look, guys - no offense intended, but I'm just not going to invest that amount of time in tracking down which commit causes/fixes a bug when I can just run an unofficial kernel. Public bug reported: Ubuntu 3.19.0-15.15-generic 3.19.3 On boot, there are error messages from the radeon driver (see dmesg output), and lightdm fails to start the X server - it simply hangs without errors. [Bug 1160188] Re: ATH9K wireless signal weak
On one of my Packard Bell EasyNote LV, the wireless network stop working some minutes after boot. Only a reboot get it working again. I tried to use the 3.11 rc2 kernel, but it reintroduced the black screen of death and thus was not a very good alternative. The machine need acpi_backlight=vendor in raring to not turn off the screen completely, and this setting no longer work with v3.11. One of the other ones have not had this problem, but it might be caused by it running an earlier raring kernel. [Bug 1184297] [NEW] Secure boot failed, claiming boot is against security policy
Public bug reported: I've struggled to install Linux on a Packard Bell EasyNote LV11HC, without having to accept the Windows 8 license, and my progress is documented in http://www.linlap.com/packard_bell_easynote_lv . Had to pull the hard drive and install to a USB stick to be able to get into the firmware menu and enable the F12 boot menu. After finally being able to install Ubuntu 13.04 on the hard drive, the UEFI firmware refused to boot the hard drive, claiming it was against the security policy. I was able to boot Ubuntu by powering on again and using F12 to pick the hard drive. [Bug 192176] Re: Scanner output always JPEG compressed
Also, from David Suffield's output of 'scanimage -h' above: --compression None|JPEG [JPEG] Selects the scanner compression method for faster scans, possibly at the expense of image quality. When I do the same command I only get --compression JPEG [JPEG] i.e. I don't get the 'None' option. So it seems uncompressed scans are not supported for my scanner (HP Photosmart 6510). I find this quite outrageous, that some devloper has taken the liberty to decide that I don't need uncompressed scans! [Bug 192176] Re: Scanner output always JPEG compressed
I'm returning to this. I have Xsane 0.998 and hplip 3.12.2. In Xsane's Advanced Options dialog the only alternative I get for compression is JPEG. It is not possible to set to none. And if I try the OP's fix and edit that file, Xsane overwrites it the next time it starts. So after three years nothing has happened, it is still not possible to save an uncompressed tif file! I find this rather outrageous! Also, Robert Ancell claims that Simple-scan will save uncompressed, but it certainly does not. Simple-scan 3.4.3. Does all this mean that there is no way to scan uncompressed with a HP scanner? If so, what kind of scanner do I need to get uncompressed scans? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192176 Title: Scanner output always JPEG compressed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/192176/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 914461] Re: common-session should not create a local user when using sssd
This bug seem to be misclassified. If I understand it correctly, it is a request for not using libpam-sss and libpam-mklocaluser together if you want to use libpam-mkhome instead of libpam-mklocaluser. And while that seem correct enough - if you do not want to use libpam-mkhome, please do so.
