[Bug 231717] Re: Some tray icons cannot be moved individually
Tray icons can't be moved around. Only the notification area applet, which the tray icons sit inside of, can be moved with the handle to the left of the icons, and this will move the applet and all its containing icons as one unit as you describe. The volume control icon, if that's what you're comparing to, won't move with them, because that is actually a panel applet in and of itself. Note that tracker-applet and nm-applet are not actual panel applets, they are just tray icons that sit in the notification area (which is an applet). [Bug 95023] Re: [Feisty] Network manager doesn't allow static IP configuration
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 92299 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/92299 This is confirmed, however there has been some obscurity with regard to what the actual problem is. Quite simply, when an interface is placed under Network Manager's control by checking "Enable roaming mode" for that interface under "Admin > Networks", Network Manager will attempt to connect the interface with DHCP ("dynamic IP"), and if there is no response it calls itself connected by filling in the connection information with null IPs (0.0.0.0) (it isn't really connected). There is no opportunity to tell Network Manager that the network instead requires a static IP. The only way to configure an interface with a static IP is the old fashioned way, without Network Manager (by unchecking "roaming mode" in "Admin > Networks" and filling in the required configuration). This allows the interface to connect, and Network Manager knows it is connected and hence displays the "connected" notification icon, however because the interface is not under Network Manager's control it does not show the blinking screens for network activity. For those switching between static and dynamic IP (DHCP) networks, you should save a "location" in "Admin > Networks" for each static IP network with the interfaces properly configured for, and another with the interfaces configured for "roaming mode" for when you are in a dynamic IP network. All in all this could be considered a bug or perhaps Network Manager was never supposed to handle static IP networks (hence leaving it to the "Admin > Networks" dialog). Either way it does not prevent users from connecting to their networks and hence not a critical problem. And if there is any error in my clarification PLEASE point it out! -- [Feisty] Network manager doesn't allow static IP configuration https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95023 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

However, restarting Democracy shows the feed being processed properly and the first download begins, but has another feed which I didn't add called "odtv2" pointing to nowhere. How come all the errors that happen only happen once, but not when I try to reproduce them for a bug report? Spoke too soon, I was about to say the second window that appears for a split second seems to have disappeared, but it just came back starting a Pixel Perfect episode. And it just crashed with the X window error again while starting a Chasers War on Everything episode. And now the second time I try it with said episode it throws the Gstreamer error. And the third time the whole app simply locked up and had to be killed, no terminal output. I have played all videos in Democracy's folder with Totem and MPlayer and they are not visibly corrupted. Okay, so basically: * Despite being the only acceptable IM app for GNOME, Gaim isn't a GNOME app, and therefore doesn't have to abide by GNOME's rules. * GNOME's got it all wrong, people should be able to size a window to any size they want. It's the same with Windows, Mac and KDE, so they must have it all wrong as well. * If a user can't find a window, or a feature in that window, because they sized it too small it's their fault, not the developers. Fair enough then. -- gaim window size unrestricted https://launchpad.net/bugs/59333 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 59333] Re: [Bug 59333] Re: gaim window size unrestricted
So are you saying that all applications should have windows that can be sized down so small that they are not identifiable or widgets (and therefore features) are hidden from view, and reveal other cosmetic bugs; or are you saying that Gaim is an exception to the desktop standard that windows should be restricted to practical sizes, and that consistency is of no importance? [Bug 59333] Re: [Bug 59333] Re: gaim window size unrestricted
Merely a consistency issue. This could also cause small usability problems because users can size down the window until the window is no longer identifiable. So, for example, if they accidentally size it so small it looks like a piece of rice they will click and click on the window's taskbar entry wondering where their window is not knowing it's that tiny little bar that keeps disappearing and reappearing. If it's any help, Firefox also has this issue and Dapper's Gaim (1.5.1cvs) doesn't. -- gaim window size unrestricted https://launchpad.net/bugs/59333 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Still in Edgy? This IS a severe problem, because it practically means you can't print with Inkscape, since you surely can't expect you're average user to know how to use that rediculous print dialogue. [Bug 58998] Re: Gaim's tabs don't function like in Gedit/Epiphany/Terminal
There's a rule I use when programming: "While the user is making a change, they should see the result of that change while they are making it." This rule is used throughout GNOME and should apply to tab movement as well as document editing. I personally don't see how the arrows allows for more precision. After all, what could be more precise than seeing the tab in its desired position as you move it? Of course dragging tabs between windows is important, so if that function is at risk by all means leave the code as is. This is just one of the three problems. Buttons in Ubuntu have an orange glow around them on mouse-over. Close tab buttons don't, but Gaim's close tab buttons do. Confirmed. (using dapper) It seems the area above the corner actually belongs to the minimize/maximize/close buttons. The case is the same with the top left corner, where the area is occupied by the window icon. [Bug 12893] Re: Shouldn't put .Trash-$USER on removable devices
It took me a good few hours to figure out why my second hard drive was still full after deleting everything. (everything was in the hidden .Trash-me folder) Nautilus should instead move the file to the user's local trash (located ~/.Trash) as this would be the expected functionality and would keep the backup of the deleted files. If there is not enough room in the local drive then prompt the user saying "The file x cannot be moved to the trash. Delete them anyway? You will not be able to recover it. [Skip] [Skip All] [Delete] [Delete All] [Cancel]". If moving the file from the removable disk to the local trash is logically impossible, Nautilus should just delete the file. -- Shouldn't put .Trash-$USER on removable devices https://launchpad.net/bugs/12893 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 56961] tiny transparent arcs in top corners of maximised window
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-artwork This is a bug related to Ubuntu's window border styles. Most maxmised windows will have the titlebar fill both top corners of the screen (excluding the panel), making the titlebar appear a solid bar right across. I beleive this is the proper appearance. Some windows however, will leave tiny (5x5) transparent arcs in the corners. These may appear as white/gray (from a maximised inactive window behind it) or black/brown (from ubuntu's desktop colour behind it). It's probably safe to assume these tiny arcs are residing from Ubuntu's rounded corners of unmaximised windows. You can see a screenshot of the correct bahaviour here: http://schalken.wubbles.net/corner-right.png And a screenshot of the problematic bahaviour here: http://schalken.wubbles.net/corner-wrong.png and here http://schalken.wubbles.net/corner-wrong2.png This may be an application-independant issue.
