[Bug 1783325] Re: Rabbitmq-server times out during server startup

2018-08-03 Thread Th
Reproducing the problem to get the above outputs gave me better
understading on conditions that lead to this problem.

If there is high load on virtualisation hosts when vms containing Rabbit
server get rebooted the timeout is likely to happen. If reboots happen
when virtualisation hosts have low load Rabbit starts without problems.

Maybe vm is too slow during startup for Rabbit to be ready before Systemd times
it out.
If that is the case maybe this is not Rabbit bug after all?

The "@hostname" is placeholder for real hostname which I did not want to
publish. Sorry for confusion.

"Sudo su -" and forward/reverse hostname to ip lookups work without
problem or warnings.

I found one common thing for hosts have had this problem: They are all
vms that run on older and slower hardware. Vms on newer hardware with
similar software and configuration have not had this problem.

[Bug 1783325] [NEW] Rabbitmq-server times out during server startup

2018-07-24 Thread Th
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu version
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS
Release:16.04

Package version
rabbitmq-server 3.5.7-1ubuntu0.16.04.2

What happens when server boots and Rabbitmq-server starts up:

Jul 19 09:19:33 hostname systemd[1]: Started RabbitMQ Messaging Server.
...
Jul 19 09:20:23 hostname rabbitmq[1002]: Waiting for 'rabbit@hostname' ...
Jul 19 09:20:23 hostname rabbitmq[1002]: pid is 1069 ...
...
Jul 19 09:21:03 hostname systemd[1]: rabbitmq-server.service: Start-post
operation timed out. Stopping.
Jul 19 09:21:03 hostname systemd[1]: Failed to start RabbitMQ Messaging Server.
Jul 19 09:21:03 hostname systemd[1]: rabbitmq-server.service: Unit entered
failed state.
Jul 19 09:21:03 hostname systemd[1]: rabbitmq-server.service: Failed with
result 'timeout'.

At the same time this gets logged in /var/log/rabbitmq:
Server startup complete; 6 plugins started.
 * rabbitmq_management
 * rabbitmq_web_dispatch
 * webmachine
 * rabbitmq_management_agent
 * mochiweb
 * amqp_client

No errors nor warnings get logged in /var/log/rabbitmq.

What I excepected to happen:
Rabbitmq-server should start without timing out.

Additional details:

I have seen this issue on multiple Ubuntu 16.04 servers that are running
latest Rabbitmq server installed from Ubuntu repository. The timeout
happens randomly, sometimes Rabbitmq server does not time out after
reboot. The Rabbitmq server is standalone, not part of cluster.

As a workaround I have commented out the ExecStartPost line from
Rabbitmq server Systemd unit file (/lib/systemd/system/rabbitmq-
server.service). This has at least so far prevented the timeouts and I
haven't yet seen any problems caused by this change.

** Affects: rabbitmq-server (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1715113] [NEW] Acer Aspire 5220 touchpad no longer works in Artful Ubuntu MATE beta

2017-09-05 Thread TH
Public bug reported:

I have an old Acer Aspire 5220, and after the harddisk died I decided to
install the Artful beta of Ubuntu MATE. Everything except the touchpad
works as before but the touchpad doesn't work, I had to plug in an
external USB mouse to use the system.

This worked with Ubuntu 17.04 which I was running before.

apt-get install libnl-3-200=3.2.21-1 libnl-genl-3-200=3.2.21-1
libnl-route-3-200=3.2.21-1
does the same by forcing the version which is not in trusty-proposed.

I would appreciate a fix (don't care if in networkmanager or libnl3)
more than this simple workaround.

(software-center:4356): Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'software-center' received an
X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 2270 error_code 9 request_code 62 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

2013-01-26 Thread TH Tan
Hello Chris,
On Hewlett Packard HP8560w notebook, I updated the BIOS to F.29 from F.26.
Using the previous ubuntu 13.04 harddisk, I did a reinstallation using
raring-desktop-amd64.iso dated 2013January23. The installation was successful.
I did 10 times of reboot and there was no problem found. I can surf the
internet. Previously no ubuntu sound upon boot up but now have already.
Thanks alot.

[Bug 1073442] Re: [HP EliteBook 8560w] Screen goes blank upon reboot after successful installation of Ubuntu 12.10(64bit) desktop version

2013-01-24 Thread TH Tan
Chris, I do not need a backport. When I google Ubuntu backport, it
mentioned that Backports offers a way to selectively provide newer
versions of software for older Ubuntu releases.

What I mean is that when I downloaded raring-desktop-amd64.iso dated
2013January23 and installed on Hewlett Packard Elitebook HP8560w
notebook, the installation hanged at the screen asking whether user want
to Download updates while installing and whether user wants to Install
third party software. On this HP8560w notebook, I plugged in a harddisk
previously used for Fedora 18 testing. It might be due to the fact that
the Ubuntu 13.04 installation software could not recognize the harddisk
file systems of Fedora 18 and subsequently hanged. There was no
harddisk read or write activity and no ethernet activity on my ADSL
modem.

Next. On this same HP8560w notebook, I inserted a DVD with ubuntu-12.04
-server-amd64.iso and installed Ubuntu 12.04. The objective is to have
a Ubuntu file system on this HP8560w harddisk. I repeated the above
steps and able to proceed to completion the whole installation process.
I noticed the whole installation process takes only 20 minutes which is
unusual. I had installed Ubuntu 10 and 11 on this HP8560w notebook and
it is usually an hour long.

Hope this is clear enough to explain my guess on what could gone wrong.
Please let me know when is your next final release for ubuntu 13.04 for
me to do another round of testing. Thanks alot and for your appropriate
action.

Regards, TH Tan

[Bug 1073442] Re: [HP EliteBook 8560w] Screen goes blank upon reboot after successful installation of Ubuntu 12.10(64bit) desktop version

2013-01-23 Thread TH Tan
Hello Chris,

I did not update the BIOS still at F.26

I downloaded raring-desktop-amd64.iso dated 2013January21. The
installation went fine but hanged after the screen asking whether user
want to Download updates while installing and whether user wants to
Install third party software. I did not realised until after 2.5hours.
ADSL internet lights was not blinking indicated no data transfer over
internet and harddisk light not blinking indicating no harddisk read or
write activities.

Next I downloaded raring-desktop-amd64.iso dated 2013January23. The
same sequence of events happened as described above for raring-desktop-
amd64.iso dated 2013January21. I shut down the whole system after
20minutes.

In the end, the harddisk that I plugged in was previously used to
install Fedora 18 for testing purposes. I used ubuntu-12.04-server-
amd64.iso to install onto this harddisk as the purpose is to re-
partition and re-format the harddisk into ubuntu standard. I re-
inserted in raring-desktop-amd64.iso dated 2013January23 and able to
complete the whole installation process. I reboot the whole system 10
times and no problem was found.

Great Job! Chris! Well done!

In Windows 7 OS, I run HP Support Assistant and it did not indicate my
notebook needs to update any BIOS. I will check with HP service centre
on why it did not prompt me to update BIOS from F.26 to F.29 . If
there is no problem in updating the BIOS, I will update you again
whether any problems or not exist for raring-desktop-amd64.iso dated
2013January23.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Regards,
TH Tan

2012-11-26 Thread TH Tan
Hello Christopher,

I reinstall ubuntu-12.10-desktop-amd64.iso on hewlett packard
elitebook hp8560w notebook. After successful installation and software
update, I run sudo apt-get -y install python-launchpadlib at /home/tanth
and the following errors appeared.

Reading package lists...
Building dependency tree...
Reading state information...
Package python-launchpadlib is not available, but is referred to by another
package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

Please advice.

[Bug 1073442] Re: [HP EliteBook 8560w] Screen goes blank upon reboot after successful installation of Ubuntu 12.10(64bit) desktop version

2012-11-05 Thread TH Tan
Hello Christopher,
I downloaded 4 deb files for amd64 processors from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.5.6-quantal/ and installed it
with $sudo dpkg -i *.deb. I rebooted successfully 6times but on the 7th times
the bootscreen gives the following

What would you like to do?
Run in low-graphics mode for just one session
Reconfigure graphics
Troubleshoot the error
Exit the console login

There was no response from the keypad or mouse so I press the power
on/off button for 8 seconds for the hardware to do a hard reset. I am
proceeding to do another 10 reboots to see it the problem appeared
again. I will updated you shortly. I guessed the 7th reboot surferred
from graphics low memory issue. Please advice on what to do next with
these observations. Is the case closed? Can I assue the next release
of Ubuntu-12.10-desktop-amd64.iso will have this bootup issue resolved?

Regards,
TH Tan

[Bug 1073442] Re: [HP EliteBook 8560w] Screen goes blank upon reboot after successful installation of Ubuntu 12.10(64bit) desktop version

2012-11-05 Thread TH Tan
Hello Christopher,
After the post #76 error at 7th reboot, I did another 10 reboot successfully
with no errors. Between each reboot I invoke firefox and access a website. No
issue found.

I would like to ask if I will to install ubuntu12.10-server-amd64.iso
on this Hewlett Packard HP8560w, will the reboot problem surfaced or it
will be taken care of in the next release of ubuntu12.10-server-
amd64.iso?

Regards,
TH Tan

Christopher, I test http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v3.5.7-quantal/ and did 10 reboot. After a reboot I invoke
Firefox to surf the internet, the first 3 reboot causes System program
problem detected. Do you want to report the problem now? I clicked
Report Problem Hope that your side receive the 3 error report if I
did not count wrongly on the frist 3 reboot. Only v3.5.6-quantal is
clean without any error messages for 10 reboot. Please advice if this
the end of the reboot problem testing and v3.5.7-quantal is the error
source you will be looking into.

Christopher, If I want to revert back to v3.5.6-quantal, is it run under
users/tanth/Downloads directory run $sudo dpkg -i *.deb with the 4 deb
files for amd64? This will revert me back to v3.5.6-quantal? Is there
any linux command to check the current linux version used? When is the
next official release of ubuntu 12.10 and beyong iso? 2 or 3months
later?

2012-11-04 Thread TH Tan
Christopher,
Initially I installed ubuntu-12.10-desktop-amd64.iso and upon reboot there
was blank sceen. If I just $sudo dpkg -i *.deb with v3.6-quantal and managed
to do a re-boot and log into launchpad again. Is there any problem with
another re-boot or a few more re-boot with ubuntu-12.10-desktop-amd64.iso?

For the next release of ubuntu 12.10 or higher version do I have to
continue to do $sudo dpkg -i *.deb with v3.6-quantal and managed to do
a re-boot or numerous re-boot to see if the problem is still there,

If I want to test whether the USB3 port or eSATAp port any problem? do
I post another questions? Who are the people taking care of this.

Regards,TH Tan

Hello Christopher,
I downloaded ubuntu-10.04.4-desktop-amd64.iso and installed on hewlett
packard hp8560w again. I re-booted 10times and the issues are not anymore.
The screen did not go blank upon reboot. Please advice on the next steps to
fix this problem after your careful analysis. Thanks a lot.

[Bug 1073442] Re: [HP EliteBook 8560w] Screen goes blank upon reboot after successful installation of Ubuntu 12.10(64bit) desktop version

2012-11-03 Thread TH Tan
Christopher,

I guess you are trying to isolate when the problem started. This
hewlett packard HP8560w is a new notebook just started selling beginning
of 2012.

after installing http://releases.ubuntu.com/lucid/ I can't access the
internet. Same ADSL modem with the same hardware setup nothing is
changed. Here is my alternate work around as stated below paragraphs.
I remember I do not need to do anything but leave the ADSL modem to be
on to access internet. Please advice if you know what is wrong.

Is it ok I downloaded http://releases.ubuntu.com/precise/ and checked
whether can I reboot without the screen going blank first? If no blank
screen after reboot then I will proceed to do your post #46 to isolate
which KernelMainlineBuild is causing the problem.

If blank screen again after reboot, I will download
http://releases.ubuntu.com/oneiric/ and checked whether can I reboot
without the screen going blank again? If no blank screen after reboot
then I will proceed to do your post #46 to isolate which
KernelMainlineBuild is causing the problem.

I will update you when I got the results.

[Bug 1073442] Re: [HP EliteBook 8560w] Screen goes blank upon reboot after successful installation of Ubuntu 12.10(64bit) desktop version

2012-11-03 Thread TH Tan
christopher,
   I just
$sudo dpkg -i *.deb with v3.6-quantal and managed to do a re-boot and log
into launchpad again. What to do next? Please advice. The current
installation of ubuntu 12.10 is using kernel 3.5.0-17-generic. I install linux
kernel v3.4 or earlier version? or I do a reboot to see problem is still there
or not? Maybe re-boot cause blank screen again, I will reply you 10 hours
later.

2012-11-03 Thread TH Tan
Hello Christopher,
Post#46 line 5 Once you've tested the upstream kernel,... what do you
mean by upstream kernel? For example ubuntu12.10 was released on 17October2012
with linux kernel library module version 3.5.0-17-generic, you mean use linux
kernel library module version 3.6 or later than 17October2012? is this correct?

I will now proceed to do numerous reboot to see anymore blank screen
upon reboot. Will update you soon once the result is available.

Regards, TH Tan

[Bug 1073442] Re: [HP EliteBook 8560w] Screen goes blank upon reboot after successful installation of Ubuntu 12.10(64bit) desktop version

2012-11-03 Thread TH Tan
Hello Christopher,
Thanks alot. I am able to reboot 10 times with no problem now. You are
great! Thanks again.
I would like to do basic functional tests on some of the peripheral ports
like USB2 or USB3 port or eSATAp port or Firewire port for the next few days.
I need to borrow these devices from others and connect to hp8560w to do basic
functional tests. I will write to you again on the results after testing. I
just want to check that the device drivers are present.

2012-11-03 Thread TH Tan
Hello Christopher,
Though the volume bar is at the centre, there was no sound during reboot.
When the volume bar is near to maximum position, the sound then appears.
Anything wrong with the sound routine?

Regards, TH Tan
