[Bug 165117] Re: Broken Image/Road Overlays on Google Earth
Hello: I do not run Compiz Fusion because I am a KDE 4 user. I don't use KDE 4's integrated compositing because I find that my system feels slower when I have compositing enabled, and I don't much care for all the excessive effects and transitions. Further, compositing liked to crash X, and did not work with Google Earth or Sauerbraten. I also am using Google Earth installed from Google's site, rather than the Medibuntu package. Alright, some update to Kubuntu Intrepid fixed this somewhat, but not entirely. Whereas the roads used to break up as the image overlays do, now the roads are solid at all times. [Bug 221273] Re: Backlight, Wifi Disabled After Suspend
Last night I somehow managed to get everything turned back on, though I'm not entirely sure how. I was planning to get my roommate to burn a 7.10 CD and I was going to attempt to suspend and resume that. I had my computer sitting on the BIOS screen so I could easily do that, and then after 5 minutes it shut itself off. My first fear was that it overheated, because it felt very hot. I let it sit and cool for a few minutes, then when I turned it back on, everything worked. For whatever reason, the powering it off and on that I'd done earlier in the evening did not correct the problem, but just letting it shut off from the BIOS screen corrected it. [Bug 221273] [NEW] Backlight, Wifi Disabled After Suspend
Public bug reported: I installed Kubuntu-KDE4 8.04 RC on my Toshiba P200-ST2061 (Santa Rosa guts). It has one of these ridiculous Phoenix BIOSes. I installed Guidance-Power-Manager and immediately upon loading, the system suspended. When it came back up, the wireless and the LCD backlight are dead. They will not come back on no matter what I try. I tried the fix described in another bug, of switching to console and back, that didn't help. Something is disabled in the BIOS. I know this because there's a light on the front of the unit that is controlled through a BIOS control, it's a glowing blue Satellite logo. This light also is off and has remained off. As best I can tell, these three things are disabled in the BIOS, and I don't know how to bring them out of the suspend mode. I'll reply if I figure out how to get these things re-enabled; I'm going to try running and suspending 7.10 in case that helps, after that, I have no ideas. Once I get my backlight and wireless back, then I can help figure out what caused it. While testing the Beta version of Hardy Heron, I've just noticed something about the FN keys. Could you guys check this and see if you get the same results please? I opened up a terminal and entered.. sudo showkey -u I got the following message.. WARNING: Unicode mode is experimental -- output may be wrong kb mode was RAW I pressed some keys to make sure that they registered ok and the showkey software detected them fine. I then pressed the FN key but got no response at all, as expected. Now comes the interesting part.. The key's F2, F3, F4, F5, F6, F7, F10 and F12 didn't register anything either when used with the FN key but they do when not used with the FN key. If I press the FN key + the other F keys that aren't supposed to have any special functions (F1, F8, F9, F11), they work the same as if the FN key isn't even being held down. [Bug 194719] Re: 01_proc_sys_batteries.patch causes a regression making gnome-power-manager not detecting the battery properly
I'm also having this problem, but with KDE 3.5. The battery icon can tell when the system has been unplugged, and seems like it updates itself then, but otherwise sits there on the same percentage number regardless of the actual charge in the battery. For example, it spent hours yesterday at 5% charge despite the fully charged light on the front of my machine being on. When I unplugged the machine to sit on my bed with it, when the backlight dimmed, the icon updated itself. Interestingly enough, prior to this, for a while the machine listed itself as having two batteries for some reason, Battery #1 would be accurate and updated, and Battery #2 would be this non-updated thing. Even though they're the same battery. I'd attach some files, but most of the commands seem to be Gnome- specific, and I'd rather just run/post all of them at once. [Bug 165117] Broken Image/Road Overlays on Google Earth
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: googleearth-package Ever since I got my new computer back in July, I've been having a problem with Google Earth's display being... incorrect. I'm filing this here and not with Google because I think this is actually a problem in Xorg or somewhere else and not with Google Earth, since my old computer running the same version of Google Earth does not have this problem. I have a Toshiba P200-ST2061 with an Intel GM965 chipset and X3100 graphics. I'm running off the Hardy repos right now, though the problem existed under Gutsy as well. Basically, with Windows on this machine, Google Earth is completely smooth and the overlays function perfectly. Under Linux, the movement itself is somewhat choppy (not a major concern of mine, but see my note on it at the bottom) and the image and road overlays appear broken. Here are a pair of images to demonstrate my problem: This first one was taken on my old computer, and shows correctly. This is how the map shows under Windows as well as under other computers I've tried. http://data.quelorant.com/GE-correct.jpg And this is what I see on my machine. http://data.quelorant.com/GE-incorrect.jpg Though those images don't show it, when zoomed out more, some roads also take that broken appearance. Glxgears runs fine and glxinfo reports that direct rendering is functional, so I'm not sure why it's acting as it is. I'm going to attach glxinfo just in case it helps. Being that the motion is somewhat choppy, I wonder if that's also why OpenGL-based game Sauerbraten runs in a choppy manner at higher resolutions. I keep it at 1280x800 to run it semi-smoothly, above that it jerks around much as Google Earth seems to. ** Affects: googleearth-package (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Broken Image/Road Overlays on Google Earth https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/165117 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is odd. I just woke up and restarted my system, and now the sound works on bootup. If the state file is corrupt, then was it rebuilt upon using the 'reset' command? [Bug 108409] No Sound Upon Upgrade to 7.04 (Workaround Included)
Public bug reported: I upgraded my Toshiba A15-S157 to Feisty this afternoon, and had a very good experience compared to my upgrade from 6.06 to 6.10. The only problem I had was a lack of sound. Any program that tried to output sound had no problem telling me it was outputting sound. For instance, XMMS was running as though there was sound coming out of the speakers or the jack, but neither was true. It was playing and the visualization was running, but no sound was actually being output. Upon a tip from another bug report I found that was unrelated to this specific issue, I played around with the /etc/init.d/alsa-utils command. Nothing seemed to work until I ran this: sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils reset And all of a sudden sound blared at me in a normal fashion. Attempting to use the restart command did not resolve the sound issue, but reset did. I fear I may have to use this command at every bootup in order to hear sound, though I have yet to reboot and test. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- No Sound Upon Upgrade to 7.04 (Workaround Included) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108409 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 72126] Re: Firefox, Swiftfox Both Crash When Popups are Called
Well, in the time since I filed the bug report, I have done a clean install of 6.10, which helped a great deal. That said, it still likes to crash sometimes, though not frequently, when popups are called. I'd say 1 in 15 popups or dialog boxes cause crashes now, though there appears to be no set pattern. The initial bug that I filed, I tested with I believe only FlashBlock installed and received the same crash problems. It will connect if I do ifdown and then ifup, but not on boot-up. -- Upgraded to 6.10 - IPW2200 Card Fails to Connect on Boot https://launchpad.net/bugs/69096 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 69096] Re: Upgraded to 6.10 - IPW2200 Card Fails to Connect on Boot
Well, here's what happens. I'm using DHCP to get the address, but I have the DHCP server set to assign my laptop's MAC address the same IP (192.168.11.27) every time it connects. I use no encryption, as I live in the middle of nowhere. I just restarted the system, and it once again did not acquire the IP but once logged in (and seeing Gaim fail to connect to anything), using 'sudo dhclient eth1' did acquire it, just as doing ifdown/ifup would have. -- Upgraded to 6.10 - IPW2200 Card Fails to Connect on Boot https://launchpad.net/bugs/69096 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
