Yes, it's normal behavior for mv to overwrite without warning in this case. Use

[Bug 290140] Re: menu.lst not updated after kernel update

2009-06-01 Thread David Edwards
I think I have experienced this problem upgrading from 'hardy' to
'intrepid'.

It seems that the grub update step isn't synchronised with the
installation of the new kernel, and the generation of a new initramfs.
In my case, I ended up with a menu.lst that listed the new kernel, but
did not have a corresponding initrd line for it. The menu.lst was
generated at a time when the kernel image was there, but the initramfs
had not yet been created. The new kernel would not boot. Fortunately an
old one would.

2009-06-01 Thread corck
I have the same problem. Worked perfectly on 8.10 not anymore on my Kubuntu
9.04.
Now after hibernation I get to the Login screen.

@Solitaire: I don't have the file /etc/pm/sleep.d/07-stop-play.sh.

Maybe its related. If I try to switch to another user session I get a
blank screen and nothing works anymore and I have to power off my laptop
(Vostro 1510).

[Bug 382430] [NEW] Notification icon references Check for updates button but the button is labeled Check

2009-06-01 Thread Ronald McCollam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

appears. The text when hovering over this icon is:

[Bug 382433] [NEW] Please merge torbutton 1.2.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable

2009-06-01 Thread Michael Terry
Public bug reported:

torbutton (1.2.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream version:
- do not resize window when it's maximized, full screen,
  ratpoisioned/evilwmed, or minimized. (Closes: #525177)
  * Add a README.privoxy with simple instructions on why and how to use
Privoxy. Most of it has been take from the tor package and was written by
Peter Palfrader. (Closes: #525178)
  * As Privoxy in Debian binds on localhost, defaults Torbutton to use
localhost instead of 127.0.0.1; fixing issues when IPv6 is enabled.
(Closes: #518371)
  * Update Homepage.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.8.1, no changes required.
  * Update Vcs-* field and document Git usage in README.source.
  * Add pkg-mozext to Uploaders.

[Bug 382431] [NEW] Ubuntu locks up frequently on MacBook rev. E

2009-06-01 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Ubuntu 9.04, MacBook rev. E (early 2008)

For the past week or so, Ubuntu 9.04 has locked up frequently, about
once every hour.

The first symptoms are that the pointer will begin moving jerkily in
response to trackpad movement, and stop responding to keyboard input.
About a minute later, the pointer stops moving altogether. I then have
to shut down the computer by holding down the power button on my
MacBook.

If I switch to a text console with Fn+Ctrl+Alt+F1 when Ubuntu starts
becoming sluggish, I am able to enter my login name but Ubuntu never
gets around to asking me for my password. On one occasion this morning I
did manage to enter my password and run top before the computer stopped
responding completely, but it showed nothing unusual (no process using
more than 10% of CPU).

[Bug 363426] Re: LUKS automount fails with jaunty

2009-06-01 Thread faithful
@ V for Vortex
file:/// was removed from Nautilus a while back, if I recall correctly.
I use KDE4 but the message is similar.
I haven't upgraded from Intrepid but installed a fresh new Jaunty (Kubuntu).
I haven't any problem with my luks encrypted root and swap partitions.
For me the problem is only with removable (luks) encrypted volumes.

Hi Sebastian,

it is possible, to reproduce this mistake, by the way, now I have four

(at the time when I reported this problem, the number was two).

I don't know how you can recreate this bug, but it is still in my

(I am a beginner with Ubuntu, started in January 2009).

And therefore my last question: sort of account ? I use Ubuntu 9.04.

Have a nice day, Gina

[Bug 316653] Re: nautilus deletes (samba share) file without prompt when a folder of the same name is created

I reported what looks like a similar or related problem (bug 382117 :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/382117).
Renaming a file in a Samba share to the name of an existing file replaces the
original one without warning. This happens to me in Jaunty, managing Samba
shares with Nautilus.

[Bug 382436] [NEW] On first-launch of Kile, no icons are visible within menu

2009-06-01 Thread David Damerell
Public bug reported:

OS/Ubuntu 9.04
Kile/1:2.1.0~svn942443-0ubuntu4

Observed behaviour:On the first launch of Kile, menu items appear without their

Expected behaviour: Icons should appear on first launch.

[Bug 382437] [NEW] Page slowly refreshes when set in Portrait

2009-06-01 Thread livingdaylight
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

I installed Nouveau driver to enable monitor in Portrait position for
working with Open Office and reading Emails.

I go to System Preference? Display

Rotation: Normal

When i set it to 'Left' and apply my monitor is adjusted to portrait
mode - Great!

However, page keeps refreshing regularly seen as a wave from right to left. Its
slow and annoying. This happens everytime i change workspace or execute
anything which changes the page. If i'm in xchat it happens everytime i type or
someone else types and hits 'enter'
Also, i opened an avi and it crashes. Not sure whether movies should work in
portrait mode or not, and i wouldn't normally look at a movie in Portrait, for
that i'd return to Landscape mode, but i checked just to see out of curiosity.
But certainly for Open Office to be workable in Portrait mode smooth graphics
are required.

[Bug 218308] Re: Rdesktop cousing system freeze when using Cisco VPN client

2009-06-01 Thread Leon
Cisco VPN client + Wireless + Multiple CPUs (SMP) = CPU freeze.

There is a problem with Cisco VPN client when used on a wireless network
with multiple CPUs. I was able to verify this by connecting my laptop
to a wired ethernet line without any problems. When I went wireless, my
laptop froze.

I'm not sure what you can do in Windows, but in linux, I disabled one of
my processors prior to establishing my VPN connection and everything
works fine.(ex. # echo 0 /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online )

After I disconnect, I re-enable the CPU. ( ex. # echo 1
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online )

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
The Ubuntu delta consisted of a new upstream release, without any
source changes, and can be dropped.

Changelog since current karmic version 0.6.35-0ubuntu1:

nginx (0.7.14-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * Adding configtest to the init.d script (Closes: #496279)
  * postinst now calls the builtin kill, so tweaks on the specific signal

Yes, the error is reproducable, because after a new installation ob Ubuntu

[Bug 346964] Re: menu items selected from screen 1 open on screen 0

2009-06-01 Thread yakovlev
I added the patch to 580103. However, I don't know the right way to get
that bug moved from the gnome-panel team to the glib team.

Also, has anybody tried out the patch and made sure it fixes the
problem? I'm pretty confident it does, as I was able to observe bad
behavior on my single-head machine that the patch corrected, but it
would be preferrable for someone experiencing the problem to confirm
that.

(I'm avoiding upgrading due exclusively to THIS BUG. As such, I did all
the design work in a VM.)

To your above question: yes, almost all Ubuntu distros have the similar
problem, later or earlier, independently from their installation with
wubi near a Windows op. system or in case of using clean install to a
separate hard disk. On separate hard disk only one continuously
appearing package is in question, while in case of wubi installed one
there are two or three packages that can not be installed as

[Bug 382374] Re: bottom panel's service icons dissapeared.

2009-06-01 Thread Chris Coulson
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 382444] [NEW] short read from server results in cached page with the first few bytes overwritten by the short read result

2009-06-01 Thread Zooko O'Whielacronx
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

Extensive debugging details are here:
http://allmydata.org/trac/tahoe/ticket/698 # corrupted file displayed to
user after failure to download followed by retry

It appears that when Firefox 3.5b4 requests a page, if it gets a 200
success with an indicated length of 588,738 bytes, but then the server
sends only 2302 bytes and then closes the connection, then Firefox 3.5b4
retrieves the most recent version of this page from its cache, then
*overwrites* the first 2302 (or 2304) bytes of it with the new data from
the server, and then displays the resulting corrupted file to the user!
