Re: [ubuntu-art] Question about
Hi Jordi, This is great news that you and your wife would like to produce some t-shirts. One of the projects we're working on in the Marketing Team aims to address many of the questions you've raised: http://diy.devubuntu.com, https://launchpad.net/spreadubuntu Trademark Policy and adherence to some basic branding guidelines are all that (should) really matter, although I'm personally only aware of how these apply to the Ubuntu brand. If you are concerned about having the blessing of the Xubuntu community, my recommendation would be for Emma to produce some roughs of her designs and then request feedback from the applicable Ubuntu sub-communities: Xubuntu-users, Xubuntu-dev Ubuntu-art, Ubuntu-marketing, etc. We look forward to the results! Cheers, ~Dan Greetings My wife ( Emma Alvarez ) is graphics designer, and has a shop at Cafepress. We are users of Xubuntu OS, and like it very much. She would like to know if she can make 2 t-shirts (one for man, another for woman) in her shop with Xubuntu logo, and the url of Xubuntu (www.xubuntu.org). The idea is to get mutual promotion. By the way, thus we send back the effort to all those people in the GNU have done for people like us. So with their logo and url, they get more promotion and support. We saw there are some t-shirts of Ubuntu in Cafepress, so we suppose she can do it. As a shopkeeper, Cafepress gets most of the money of the sales, as they get the base price. Emma wins a markup over that base price, that she can choose. For example, if an article costs 6 dollars of base price, and we fix the price to 6 dollars, we earn no money. If we set a markup of 8 dollars, we earn 2 dollars. Emma Alvarez would sell, if you like, this t-shirts and Xubuntu articles without earning any money, just for the base price, that goes all to Cafepress. The only purpose is mutual promotion, as we said, not to earn money from Xubuntu. Of course, if it is allowed, it would be nice to add a small markup, for design and maintenance cost. Is there something in the license that forbides doing this? If we can, were can we get the gidelines of colors, logo, fonts, so the project is consistent with Xubuntu artwork? Is this idea welcome to your community? Re: [ubuntu-art] Advices and artwork needed for the Ubuntu Media Center project
On Saturday 10 March 2007 10:29:00 Jonathan Delrot wrote: Hi ! I do well know this problem. And gmail is very helpful, though having tons of mail seems to cause it few problems. I think too, gmail is very great ! But seriously, it is a very solid palette which, in the meantime, has proven itself. The one place in which it could perhaps still need help is in the greens. Perhaps taking the oxygen palette as a reference/base and then creating a good set of greens would be the best way to start. interesting enough since we currently think about a green predominance ;) @Jon: any comment? For the green, there will be a problem, because the oxygen's green is not our green, and there are 2 greens (I believe). So, your idea is good to start, you need 4 or 5 greens (green/blue, green/yellow, green/dark, green/green ^^ and green/?), it's very important if we don't want repetitions. After we take the oxygen palette + green set and we will have the Chloropryll palette. Another very important aspect that is often forgotten is to know your customers - exactly which target group is the media center for? this is not targeted at a special audience, but generally is for the mass market people, wanting to install a media center without hassle. Actually you pretty much defined a group there :-) Typical, normal people at home who want to set up a media center, not a whole desktop. Not the best definition but you get the idea. Back that up with some typical use cases and you've got a great structure to define your specs, etc. The customers aren't the geeks, that it's sure. I think in normal people is not us, so they don't want to understant how it's work, and they just want it's work, it does what they want without search. So the theme should be very realistic, simple, because lot of things is not a solution, it's necessary a good thing at the good place, and a very instinctive design, very easy to understand. So I need help for the green set, can you start the selection ? Thanks! Jonathan. To be honest, I doubt I'll be getting to any other work for a few weeks - things are heating up for feisty and I've a load to do already. The best way to do this would be to look at all the use cases and play around until you find a few good colors. After that, get the right shades of those and make a final selection. Sounds easy, eh? Unfortunately it is not as easy at it sounds and it'll probably get tweaked over time. Ken -- ubuntu-art mailing list ubuntu-art@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-art

Re: [ubuntu-in] adding user problem
Hi, You should give user name other than root only otherwise you will not be able to log on. But for me if i do SU and i gave same password as i entered while installing linux, it gave the root privilages. ANd then i opened the 'users and groups' utility from the menu. There i changed the root password and then i changed the properties as well from the last tab for root. After that you have to go to log on peroperties, there you have check the box for administrator logging in. This is a quite a long method. I donot know any methods. I figured out on my own. I was able to log in as root and do all other things. Regards, shashi On 3/11/07, Pramod Tantri [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hey guys i'm kind off getting hold of Ubuntu now.. Re: [ubuntu-uk] App for organizing pdfs
Regarding file system tagging, take a look at Leaftag - http://www.chipx86.com/wiki/Leaftag. Development seems to have stagnated unfortunately, and it doesn't seem to work for Ubuntu (I've not been motivated enough to spend more than about 20 minutes on it though). Something more immediately available is Tracker - http://www.gnome.org/projects/tracker/ - which apparently does tagging. I'm not sure if anyone has written a Nautilus plugin to access the tagging functionality though (yet!)... There are apt repositories for Tracker on the website, so you can install it via Synaptic/Add-Remove Programs/apt-get. -Kris On 3/11/07, Andrew Black (delete obvious bit) [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Paul Sladen [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]: Could you describe a few examples/use-cases of what manage might mean to help to narrow things down. [ubuntu-uk] Hi / Forum
Hello! I'm a newbie onto this list.. thought I might as well say a bit about me. I'm a trainee web designer in Wales. My Primary home and work O.S. is Ubuntu. I switched to Ubuntu in summer last year, and haven't looked back. (Apart from running Guild Wars Starcraft :) on windoze.) I run a startek pbem rpg in my spare time, along with trying to keep my blog up to date. (I will redesign the look when I get round to it...) A quick question, do you have a forum? I ask, because I spend most of my time on forums, and find email lists annoying, as I have enough emails coming in anyway, I have to set them into digest mode, Which limits their effectiveness. I run a startek pbem rpg in my spare time, along with trying to keep my blog up to date. (I will redesign the look when I get round to it...) A quick question, do you have a forum? I ask, because I spend most of my time on forums, and find email lists annoying, as I have enough emails coming in anyway, I have to set them into digest mode, Which limits their effectiveness. http://www.ubuntuforums.org/ is the best choice, always get an answer. You might also check out nuxified.org where I help moderate, a lot of the users use ubuntu. IRC is also good for helping and getting support. It does bring up the question.. should we start a fora? I can theme phpBB pretty well, I would not mind giving some time to starting one if we thought it was worth while. gord wrote: On Sun, 2007-03-11 at 12:18 +, Kirrus wrote: Hello! I think you're right that a better firewall system is needed. I don't think that ubuntu needs it's own magical one, though. There should be a simple debug-type tool to recognize when services are blocked. It should be secure. I think this would be a great addition to Ubuntu.
E perdoem as imprecisões técnicas. :P). heheh... do mal!

Re: [Ubuntu-BR] [Fwd: Join the Google Summer of Code with Ubuntu]
Aqui vai a msg: Hi all, Ubuntu is once again participating in the Google Summer of Code [1]. We would like to make as many projects as possible, available for students to work on. It is a great opportunity to expose new students to the wonderful world of Ubuntu, get some exciting projects off the ground and get good exposure for the projects, students and organisations alike. SoC 2007 starts early this year, so there are even better chances to get projects for the second Ubuntu release this year (around October 2007). What can you do to help? We need - Exciting project ideas - preferably with detailed specs. Ideas can be related to the following broad topics: * Ubuntu [2] * Edubuntu [3] * Kubuntu [4] * Accessability [5] - If you have a project idea, and would like it to be considered, please add a project headings with a brief description to our Ideas Page [6]. Selected projects will be tracked on Blueprint. If you are ready to create a detailed spec please add it to Blueprint [7]. We would encourage members of the community who have been thinking of a cool new feature or plan to seize the opportunity to get it into the idea pool, as it might just get selected and implemented. You can see a list of proposed projects at [8]. - Mentors - volunteers in the know who will answer any questions the selected students have, and help them to settle into the community for the duration of the SoC. You will also be responsible for providing feedback to Google, the Student and Canonical on the project progress, as well as evaluating the project at the end of the programme. For your time and trouble you will receive a cool limited edition t-shirt! If you would like to volunteer to be a mentor, please contact [9]. - Good capable eligible Students, to apply for the projects. If you are a registered student and are over 18 years of age, you can apply for one of the projects (applications open on the Summer of Code page starting March 14 2007). We would like to select students who are enthusiastic about our projects and are able to commit the time and energy required to make them successful. Please make your applications detailed and give us enough information to be able to make an intelligent selection. Please remember that being selected is a privilege and a great opportunity. The more you commit, the greater your chance of a fantastic reward at the end Additionally if it is really good your code might be included in Ubuntu! See [10] for the SoC FAQ. Additional informations about your project should be provided in the Ubuntu/Kubuntu wikis in the form of a specification. Re: [ubuntu-marketing] [ubuntu-art] Question about
Hi Jordi, This is great news that you and your wife would like to produce some t-shirts. [Ubuntu-be] Ubuntu-be.org spreads Ubuntu love at VLOD education conference
Full report with pict's: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/VLOD_2007/Report Ubuntu-be.org spreads Ubuntu love at VLOD education conference During the 4 day long Flemish education conference, the Ubuntu-be.org volunteers spread their edubuntu enthusiasm around the directors and ict-responsibles of all Belgium schools. The VLOD-conference is the biggest education conference in Flanders which about 8000 people, mainly decisionmakers attend. We started on Monday at 10 o'clock with a workshop about edubuntu in schools, and after that we manned the booth. The results were astonishing; people were interested to discover this system everybody was talking about. We showed them the possibilities and advantages of 'free software', and gave them a demo of thin clients. And quickly we had more people listening at our booth than our colleagues from Vista. On the first day after the closing of the conference, all the people from the Vista booth came over to ours to discover what was happening, so we spread the ubuntu-love among them as well... The week went on and gave us a really good feeling about it, schools were really interested! People mailed us with questions, came back to thank us, telling that it was fantastic that everything simply worked. Some companies came to tell they used ubuntu in their showroom as well, and they wanted to help us, even with sponsoring... It was just fantastic! On Wednesday we also had South-African visit from Canonical, Richard Weideman was in Brussels, so he also visited the conference. A bit later we also got a visit from the Education Business Manager at Microsoft Belgium, Christian Ramioul. In total we distributed more than 700 CD’s and collected more than 300 names and email addresses from interested people. We would also thank all the volunteers that helped us make this possible! Especially: * Annelies Bollen * François Cauwe * Xavier Cauwe * Ismaël Demiddel * Guy Duportail linux-service.be: our sponsor * Jan Fabry * Jens Timmerman * Dieter Verfaillie * Richard Weideman * Mark van den Borre * The inevitable invisible and forgotten volunteers -- ubuntu-be mailing list / mailto:ubuntu-be@lists.ubuntu.com You can find list info and your subscription configuration options at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-be

2007/3/11, François Cauwe [EMAIL PROTECTED]: just some more ideas about these good points : I think you should send education people with education specific things, and not send them to much mails they don't read anymore after a while. I think it makes very much sense to have a kind of monthly letter that also contains info such a to get more involved you can register to this mailing list, but most importantly, that would proactively help the teachers to do their job with free software. Many, I suppose, would very much like to know more what to use to do what, have interesting and successful experiences reported from colleagues ... We (the community interested inf FS in education) can surely help them, with info they would appreciate.
