It certainly looks like Win7 would take back the Netbook market from Linux with W7 at this stage. Having tested it at the weekend, its clear that the 1.6Ghz processor, 1GB mem and a reasonably fast disk will be fine and offers a far more comfortable, productive and enjoyable environment than any Linux distro i've seen. I don't see any Linux distribution increasing their share in the netbook market with WM7 around UNLESS, 1) Microsoft charge full rates for W7 licenses AND 2) Win XP for ULCPCs goes away. In this case, Linux could give OEMs the chance to save some up-front licensing costs. It leaves the MID market where 4GB flash, 800Mhz processors aren't good enough for Win7 and MS doesn't have an X86 product to offer (assuming XP goes away and WM7 does not support X86 architechture.) You are obviously talkingn to OEMs directly in the b/g but how about tempting other OEMs and developers via high quality branded blogs and not via IRC (Please, IRC is great but users, OEMs, ISVs, resellers jsut dont have the time to participate. ) or mailing lists. Canonical also need to do marketing. Now. Not when Ubuntu Mobile is launched. Its almost funny that this distro was announced on a personal blog until you realise what potential we're talking about here. Ubuntu Mobile seems to be taking root. ISVs and community members need reasons to join now. Canonical need to provide the feedback that gives them confidence that this project will go forward with aggression, good end-user focus and with long-term goals to become the de-facto choice on netbooks and medium sized touchscreen devices. It will then ask for your email address (messy) and once you type that in you'll get a verification email. Click the link in the verify email and it will take you back to the site and ask for a password (again, messy), and that's it. You should then be able to sign out and back in using your openid url which is matched to the site user just created. I suspect this is just down to the messy way that the drupal openid module works, but it does work. Hi Michael, I got a 901 a few weeks ago and installed eeexubuntu. Working very well after a bit of fiddling about with the wireless. I haven't had any issues with the lid sensor. Sounds like a problem with the hardware, so probably worth sending back for repairs. Unmounting removable devices
Hi, Currently I find unmounting removable devices in GNOME is less than optimal for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I don't think I should have to open nautilus or go to the desktop to do this, though it's not the end of the world. Secondly, there is no notification when you just yank out a removable device, and no real indication that you should unmount before doing so, so it's not obvious to new users. I use the drive mount applet to overcome the first issue, but it doesn't solve the second. There is an open bug report about the second, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/208730 which has no comment in the linked upstream bug. From a brief look gio has signals that could easily implement it, but I'm not sure that nautilus is the correct place to implement it. I have two questions. Firstly, the technical one of what needs to happen. Is nautilus the correct place for this? If not, what should be? The second is the more philosophical one, should we be doing this? If so, what should it look like? Panel applet? Notification icon? Something else? Hello, I have just completed some tests with soundconverter. I am a bit confused: 1. In Windows, using any of the plethora of software available, I converted 18 mp3 files totalling 124.9MB to wav files, resampled at 44100. The resultant size was 580MB approx. 2. In Hardy, using soundconverter 1.0.1 (from the repository), I noticed it used 50% CPU resources when loaded and was non responsive for about 15 seconds, greyed out then was available to use. There is no resampling available in this version and converting the same mp3 files to wav format resulted in a whopping 116.9GB ! 3. I installed manually the latest soundconverter 1.4.0 which permits resampling for wav files so I chose 44100 as in the Windows test. Then I did the same conversion. Ouch - 1.83GB ! Soundcoverter to wav results in very much larger file sizes than similar programs in Windows. Can anybody tell me why and which is actually doing the job properly? BTW, no, K3b is not an option for me as K3b still has burning discs bugs - and only Imgburn in wine works for me - that is, no Linux burning works. A standard cd is 700mb and holds about 80 minutes of audio at 44100hz 16 bit I believe. It is more or less just the contents of the wave files plus a simple table of contents that has when the tracks start and not much more. Depending on the length of song you can get about 16-22ish songs per cd. You will not gain any more data by converting them back into wave as that data has already been lost from the original. mp3 is a lossy format so it throws away a lot of the data from the original. If you are doing this to just burn them back onto cd i would not bother converting them into wave then burning, i would instead just use your favorite media player and get that to do that step on the fly. with point 2 you are probably not resampling it at all, 44100 is reasonably standard as that's what the original cd uses, the artifacts get worse when you change this. so what is the end purpose of this? Hi, From the bug reports on k3b there seems to be an issue when there are a mixture of ide and scsi or sata drives. Apparently, from what I understand, K3b is a front end using cdrado and as it was some time ago that I spent researching this I can not remember the exact details in the bug reports. I did spend a lot of time and cds trying the various suggestions in the bug reports but eventually, after some weeks, gave up. I tried again last weekend and no updates had resolved the issues for me. Not being a technophile, I am reluctant to blindly change config files. I've never encountered anything that K3B couldn't burn that wasn't my fault. If K3B and the Gnome equivalents are not working, there is very likely something wrong with your CD drive or media. It is not media nor my dvd drives. It is either a setting I do not know about or a bug that affects my combination of drives or the ability to lock the drive. If there are settings for k3b I did mean that I want to use a gui ... Hi, I need the wav format to play in some of my cd players that do not accept mp3. I know I can not regain what was lost - the objective is as above. Even in just a straight mp3 to wav conversion using soundconverter the files were, IMHO, very large. In my case the relevant device is: card 1: UA25 [UA-25], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 Then open qjackctl's setup dialogue and enter the following in the interface field: 'hw:UA25' The relevant name in this case is UA25 which comes up just after 'card 1:'. If you do this jack is hardwired to the device name, not a possibly changing number. If you have more devices with the same name there are other options but this one is simpler and is enough in many cases. I have a couple questions about Ubuntu studio package oddities: 1) Why is Hydrogen compiled with Lash support (and will in fact delay startup by a couple seconds and spew messages about not being able to connect to port 14541) even though there's no Lash package as part of the standard distribution or even present in the apt repository? I understand that Lash is still young, but can't you include a package for users to use at their own risk? If not, can you remove the Lash dependency from hydrogen so it doesn't delay? 2) Could we please have a package for jackctlmmc? ( http://apps.linuxaudio.org/apps/all/jackctlmmc ) It's an extremely useful but tiny application that many audio engineers are using. It's literally one tiny source file and should be easy enough to build and add to the repository. I've never made an Ubuntu package, but I can try my hand at it if you'd like. The reason I ask is that it's annoying for the average user to have to install / configure all the development packages just to get this little app working. I'm new to Linux audio, but not to audio engineering or Linux itself, so I'd like to lend a hand where I can. Falta somente a webcam VX-3000 da M$, mas preciso esperar ela voltar da assistencia tecnica. No trabalho tb rodou td, tanto na estacao de trabalho que utilizo quanto nos notes Itautec W7645 e num Amazon L92. Deu uma conferida na ultima versao disponibilizada pelo Hamacker? - http://hamacker.wordpress.com/script-ubuntu-perfeito/ []'s 2008/11/10 Jose Geraldo Gouvea [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tentei utilizar o Ubuntu Perfeito para terminar de arredondar o meu sistema após a instalação zerada que tive de fazer semana passada e para minha surpresa eu agora não consigo mais iniciar o sistema. O script não chegou sequer a ir até o final (na verdade ele estava demorando porque algumas das alternativas que eu desmarcara estavam sendo executadas mesmo assim) quando os programas começaram a travar. Ao tentar iniciá-los via terminal aparecia a mensagem no setuid root. Reiniciei o sistema e não consegui logar, pois v'ários serviços não iniciavam (klogd, dbus, hal, avahi-daemon, gdm, networking). Tentei reinstalar os pacotes destes serviços mas não resolveu e ainda quebrei o sistema pois a configuração do dbus e do hal não concluíam. Tentei reinstalar os pacotes que estavam instalados para ver se algum fora corrompido, mas tampouco funcionou. No fim tive de dar um apt-get -f install para corrigir inúmeros conflitos de pacotes e quase fico sem sistema porque havia 12 pacotes corrompidos e eu estava sem internet. Tive de usar o cd alternate para tenter recuperar o sistema. Com este CD eu logo num prompt e consigo resolver os problemas de dependências, mas aqueles serviços continuam sem reiniciar. No caso do klogd a mensagem que aparece é a de que a permissão para iniciá-lo foi negada. Parece que o script Ubuntu Perfeito ferrou com as permissões de alguma pasta ou arquivo do sistema (talvez /proc ou /var/run ou alguma outra) e eu não sei qual chmod dar. Estou aguardando alguma dica de vocês para resolver do modo rápido, antes de ter que reinstalar o sistema sem formatar a partição -- que me parece a solução mais viável de outra forma. O que vocês acham? [Ubuntu-BR] Scritp Ubuntu Perfeito
Bom pessola eu tenho um pqno problema de acesso a internet, utilizo internet por GPRS, que as vezes é pior que Dialup tradicional por linha fixa, entretanto tenho o limite de banda para download, o que me deixa somente para nevagação web e envio de emails este acesso. Infelizmente não tenho outra opção de acesso a internet em minha casa. Fiz uma nova Instalaçào do 8.10 next next finish e atualizei o sistema, cerca de 37 MB. Após pensei, se seria possível fazer somente download dos pacotes do script em um outro computador que dispoem de banda larga e em seguida levar em CD para casa e salvar os pacotes em /var/cache/apt e assim após tentar executar o script em modo offline no outro computador sem ter que reescrever o código do ubuntu para rodar local. Minha pergunta é ele faria a tentativa de download mas executaria o local? Não sei, isso funcionaria? alguem tem uma idéia se seria possível fazer esse modo cache, ou eu teria que re-editar o script para executar a instalação pegando do CD montado ou de uma pasta? Oi, Vai devagar nessa informação, eu reinstalei o script diversas vezes tanto em maquina real como virtual, 8.04 e 8.10, 32bits e 64bits e o script não faz isso que você mencionou. O script apenas agiliza o processo de juntar programas uteis, não há hacks e munido apenas apt-get e wget que são os programas principais desse script é impossível fazer isso que você descreveu. Acesso a internet é imprescindível, logo na tela de abertura é apresentado um necessidade de conexao a internet e o tempo que leva (1hora) num link de 512kbps. Embora se voce salvar /var/cache/apt/archives e /var/cache/ubuntuperfeito aproveitará todo o download já feito. Não duvido que sua queixa seja real, mas o mais provável é que o primeiro passo do script que é fazer um 'apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade' para atualizar seu sistema tenha ficado pela metade talvez por problemas de conexao a internet ou CTRL+C no meio do processo. O script pode conter erros, mas tais erros vão apenas atuar na não instalação de algumas tarefas, se houver possibilidade de quebrar o sistema eu interrompo o script imediatamente porque não quero expor ninguem a fatalidades ou péssimas experiencias com linux por minha causa. [Ubuntu-BR] Ubuntu Perfeito Quebrou meu Sistema
Tentei utilizar o Ubuntu Perfeito para terminar de arredondar o meu sistema após a instalação zerada que tive de fazer semana passada e para minha surpresa eu agora não consigo mais iniciar o sistema. O script não chegou sequer a ir até o final (na verdade ele estava demorando porque algumas das alternativas que eu desmarcara estavam sendo executadas mesmo assim) quando os programas começaram a travar. Ao tentar iniciá-los via terminal aparecia a mensagem no setuid root. Reiniciei o sistema e não consegui logar, pois v'ários serviços não iniciavam (klogd, dbus, hal, avahi-daemon, gdm, networking). Tentei reinstalar os pacotes destes serviços mas não resolveu e ainda quebrei o sistema pois a configuração do dbus e do hal não concluíam. Tentei reinstalar os pacotes que estavam instalados para ver se algum fora corrompido, mas tampouco funcionou. No fim tive de dar um apt-get -f install para corrigir inúmeros conflitos de pacotes e quase fico sem sistema porque havia 12 pacotes corrompidos e eu estava sem internet. Tive de usar o cd alternate para tenter recuperar o sistema. Com este CD eu logo num prompt e consigo resolver os problemas de dependências, mas aqueles serviços continuam sem reiniciar. No caso do klogd a mensagem que aparece é a de que a permissão para iniciá-lo foi negada. Parece que o script Ubuntu Perfeito ferrou com as permissões de alguma pasta ou arquivo do sistema (talvez /proc ou /var/run ou alguma outra) e eu não sei qual chmod dar. Estou aguardando alguma dica de vocês para resolver do modo rápido, antes de ter que reinstalar o sistema sem formatar a partição -- que me parece a solução mais viável de outra forma. O que vocês acham? Infelizmente não tenho outra opção de acesso a internet em minha casa. Fiz uma nova Instalaçào do 8.10 next next finish e atualizei o sistema, cerca de 37 MB. Após pensei, se seria possível fazer somente download dos pacotes do script em um outro computador que dispoem de banda larga e em seguida levar em CD para casa e salvar os pacotes em /var/cache/apt e assim após tentar executar o script em modo offline no outro computador sem ter que reescrever o código do ubuntu para rodar local. Minha pergunta é ele faria a tentativa de download mas executaria o local? Não sei, isso funcionaria? alguem tem uma idéia se seria possível fazer esse modo cache, ou eu teria que re-editar o script para executar a instalação pegando do CD montado ou de uma pasta? O mais prático é usar o script do ubuntu perfeito do hamacker (hamacker.wordpress.com) soh pra instalar ele. Eu usei o script pra fazer estah funcionando muito bem. Acabei ateh usando outras funçõezinhas do script. Aliás, parabéns, hamacker. Usei o script no U*buntu 8.04 LTS de 32 e de 64 bits, e em ambos rodou perfeitinho... Luciana, para enviar um arquivo para a Lixeira, você pode usar a tecla delete mesmo. Aqui no trabalho ainda estou no 8.04 e testei o Ctrl+t. Eu nunca adivinharia que esse atalho é enviar para a lixeira. Mas então o delete é uma tecla a menos, facilita ;) E para apagar o arquivo sem mandar para a lixeira basta usar Shitf+Delete. Eu não estou acusando o Hamacker, mas pode ser que algum pacote baixado através do Ubuntu perfeito tenha quebrado meu sistema. Afinal, ele não tem como ser responsável por todos os arquivos que o Ubuntu Perfeito instala. Olá a todos, Instalei o Ubuntu 8.10 no meu note sony vaio cr520e. Ele vem com a placa wireless da Intel 4965 AG or AGN e a princípio, ele está instalada, pois lista a interface wlan0 no meu ifconfig e também com o comando iwlist wlan0 scan ele mostra as redes disponíveis. Mas no menu do gnome, Network Configuration na aba Sem fio, nao aparece nada, e também nao mostra o ícone clássico das barrinhas verdes crescentes que indicam a intensidade do sinal no canto superior, perto do relógio. A minha dúvida é como fazer com que apareça a opçao pelo menu do gnome para mim scanear a procura de redes, me conectar.. etc.. etc, pois pelo está parecendo está instalado, só nao aparece no menu, ou existe alguma ferramente grafica pro gnome que eu tenho que baixar? Ao tentar iniciá-los via terminal aparecia a mensagem no setuid root. Reiniciei o sistema e não consegui logar, pois v'ários serviços não iniciavam (klogd, dbus, hal, avahi-daemon, gdm, networking). Tentei reinstalar os pacotes destes serviços mas não resolveu e ainda quebrei o sistema pois a configuração do dbus e do hal não concluíam. Tentei reinstalar os pacotes que estavam instalados para ver se algum fora corrompido, mas tampouco funcionou. No fim tive de dar um apt-get -f install para corrigir inúmeros conflitos de pacotes e quase fico sem sistema porque havia 12 pacotes corrompidos e eu estava sem internet. Tive de usar o cd alternate para tenter recuperar o sistema. Com este CD eu logo num prompt e consigo resolver os problemas de dependências, mas aqueles serviços continuam sem reiniciar. No caso do klogd a mensagem que aparece é a de que a permissão para iniciá-lo foi negada. Parece que o script Ubuntu Perfeito ferrou com as permissões de alguma pasta ou arquivo do sistema (talvez /proc ou /var/run ou alguma outra) e eu não sei qual chmod dar. Estou aguardando alguma dica de vocês para resolver do modo rápido, antes de ter que reinstalar o sistema sem formatar a partição -- que me parece a solução mais viável de outra forma. Ele vem com a placa wireless da Intel 4965 AG or AGN e a princípio, ele está instalada, pois lista a interface wlan0 no meu ifconfig e também com o comando iwlist wlan0 scan ele mostra as redes disponíveis. Mas no menu do gnome, Network Configuration na aba Sem fio, nao aparece nada, e também nao mostra o ícone clássico das barrinhas verdes crescentes que indicam a intensidade do sinal no canto superior, perto do relógio. Laertes, o ícone da rede no painel tem um menu que é acionado com o botão esquerdo. Neste menu ele mostra as redes enxergadas pela placa. Nesta janela de configurações que você abriu ele só mostra as redes já configuradas, as redes às quais você já se conectou. A minha dúvida é como fazer com que apareça a opçao pelo menu do gnome para mim scanear a procura de redes, me conectar.. etc.. etc, pois pelo está parecendo está instalado, só nao aparece no menu, ou existe alguma ferramente grafica pro gnome que eu tenho que baixar? Pelo que entendi, ele já tentou olhar ai nessa opção clicando com o botao esquerdo. Só que não aparece nenhuma rede sendo enxergada lá. E ai pessoal blz, em meu notebook eu tenho instalado o ubuntu 8.10 e o windows Xp, então precisei fazer a reinstalação do windows xp, Então depois da instalação o grub sumiu, entra direto no xp, procurei na net e achei a seguinte solução. Entrar com um livecd do ubuntu ou qualquer distro e montar o Hd onde estão os dados do ubuntu. mount /dev/sda6 /media/hd Depois acessar os dados cd /media/hd E então executar o gub-install sudo grub-install /dev/sda Só que nada acontece. Procurei por mais informações não achei, alguém poderia me ajudar? Hamacker, vc é o cara só um detalhe que esqueci de mencionar o BROffice3, não funcionou, dava um erro de direito da pasta.. há tive uns problemas com os complementos do FF tb... mas blz, sem stress. rsrs 2008/11/10 hamacker [EMAIL PROTECTED] Oi, Vai devagar nessa informação, eu reinstalei o script diversas vezes tanto em maquina real como virtual, 8.04 e 8.10, 32bits e 64bits e o script não faz isso que você mencionou. O script apenas agiliza o processo de juntar programas uteis, não há hacks e munido apenas apt-get e wget que são os programas principais desse script é impossível fazer isso que você descreveu. Acesso a internet é imprescindível, logo na tela de abertura é apresentado um necessidade de conexao a internet e o tempo que leva (1hora) num link de 512kbps. Embora se voce salvar /var/cache/apt/archives e /var/cache/ubuntuperfeito aproveitará todo o download já feito. Não duvido que sua queixa seja real, mas o mais provável é que o primeiro passo do script que é fazer um 'apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade' para atualizar seu sistema tenha ficado pela metade talvez por problemas de conexao a internet ou CTRL+C no meio do processo. O script pode conter erros, mas tais erros vão apenas atuar na não instalação de algumas tarefas, se houver possibilidade de quebrar o sistema eu interrompo o script imediatamente porque não quero expor ninguem a fatalidades ou péssimas experiencias com linux por minha causa. Cara você deveria ter feito um back-up da MBR antes, tem uma opção que nunca usei mas dizem funcionar bem é baixar um software chamado supergrub queimar um cd e mandar refazer o grub. Boa tarde a todos; Sempre q tento executar um programa na consola, como root, como o gparted e o gedit, por exemplo, recebo a msg: (gedit:11862): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: Com o meu usuário, o gedit por exemplo, funciona. Antes, no 8.04 (32bits) rodava normalmente como root. Agora uso o 8.10 - 64. Pouco provável, pois o apt-get não instala um pacote se ele comprometer outro. Todo o dpkg -i é seguido dum apt-get install -f, que em teoria removeria pacotes que causaram dependencias não atendidas. Só mesmo uma interrupção no meio duma instalação, onde metade foi e a outra metade não. Mas é dificil no achismo. Sobre webcam, é preciso ficar esperto, pois há situações onde há o /dev/video0 e porque há outros hardwares também de video também haverá um /dev/video1. No amsn voce pode especificar qual dos dispositivos usar, mas em programas como o camorama/cheese infelizmente não tem como especificar depois que roda o programa, só na linha de comando com o -d /dev/videoX : camorama -d /dev/video1 2008/11/10 Jose Geraldo Gouvea [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Eu não estou acusando o Hamacker, mas pode ser que algum pacote baixado através do Ubuntu perfeito tenha quebrado meu sistema. O script não chegou sequer a ir até o final (na verdade ele estava demorando porque algumas das alternativas que eu desmarcara estavam sendo executadas mesmo assim) quando os programas começaram a travar. Ao tentar iniciá-los via terminal aparecia a mensagem no setuid root. Reiniciei o sistema e não consegui logar, pois v'ários serviços não iniciavam (klogd, dbus, hal, avahi-daemon, gdm, networking). Tentei reinstalar os pacotes destes serviços mas não resolveu e ainda quebrei o sistema pois a configuração do dbus e do hal não concluíam. Tentei reinstalar os pacotes que estavam instalados para ver se algum fora corrompido, mas tampouco funcionou. No fim tive de dar um apt-get -f install para corrigir inúmeros conflitos de pacotes e quase fico sem sistema porque havia 12 pacotes corrompidos e eu estava sem internet. Tive de usar o cd alternate para tenter recuperar o sistema. Com este CD eu logo num prompt e consigo resolver os problemas de dependências, mas aqueles serviços continuam sem reiniciar. No caso do klogd a mensagem que aparece é a de que a permissão para iniciá-lo foi negada. Parece que o script Ubuntu Perfeito ferrou com as permissões de alguma pasta ou arquivo do sistema (talvez /proc ou /var/run ou alguma outra) e eu não sei qual chmod dar. Estou aguardando alguma dica de vocês para resolver do modo rápido, antes de ter que reinstalar o sistema sem formatar a partição -- que me parece a solução mais viável de outra forma. O que vocês acham? Mas o Broffice3 continua no script, inclusive seguindo recomendações dos colegas mais experientes, esse erro ocorre quando se faz a instalação via sudo com variaveis como GNOME_SESSION_MANAGER (talvez dentre outras) que ainda apontam para o $HOME do usuário, mesmo usando sudo. Mas mesmo depois que corrigí, alguns usuarios reportaram o mesmo problema, de forma que optei por atualizar .OOo.org2 para OOo.org3. O script agora seta temporariamente a variavel $HOME para /tmp enquanto roda o script para sair fora desses erros estranhos de programas que ainda capturam variaveis do ambiente do utilizador e não do sudo. Entrar com um livecd do ubuntu ou qualquer distro e montar o Hd onde estão os dados do ubuntu. mount /dev/sda6 /media/hd Depois acessar os dados cd /media/hd E então executar o gub-install sudo grub-install /dev/sda Só que nada acontece. Procurei por mais informações não achei, alguém poderia me ajudar? Bem, enquanto os colegas se preocupavam em defender o Hamacker (o que é louvável, visto que ele é um bom companheiro da lista e ao que me consta uma boa pessoa também), eu acabei topando com a resposta. klog permission denied on boot [edit] ... fails because user klog does not have permission to execute klogd. chmod o+rx /sbin/klogd solves the problem, ... Hamacker, Utilizei em 32 e 64 em maquina atual e + antiga com placa nvidia, e on bord e tudo foi 10. (para não encher de mais sua bola+ foi é 1000) Acredito que vc sabe que os grandes gênios ( não to bajulando só incentivando rsrs) da humanidade em suas colaborações espontâneas e livres sempre tiveram um dedo acusador. O script não chegou sequer a ir até o final (na verdade ele estava demorando porque algumas das alternativas que eu desmarcara estavam sendo executadas mesmo assim) quando os programas começaram a travar. Ao tentar iniciá-los via terminal aparecia a mensagem no setuid root. Reiniciei o sistema e não consegui logar, pois v'ários serviços não iniciavam (klogd, dbus, hal, avahi-daemon, gdm, networking). Tentei reinstalar os pacotes destes serviços mas não resolveu e ainda quebrei o sistema pois a configuração do dbus e do hal não concluíam. Tentei reinstalar os pacotes que estavam instalados para ver se algum fora corrompido, mas tampouco funcionou. No fim tive de dar um apt-get -f install para corrigir inúmeros conflitos de pacotes e quase fico sem sistema porque havia 12 pacotes corrompidos e eu estava sem internet. Tive de usar o cd alternate para tenter recuperar o sistema. Com este CD eu logo num prompt e consigo resolver os problemas de dependências, mas aqueles serviços continuam sem reiniciar. No caso do klogd a mensagem que aparece é a de que a permissão para iniciá-lo foi negada. Parece que o script Ubuntu Perfeito ferrou com as permissões de alguma pasta ou arquivo do sistema (talvez /proc ou /var/run ou alguma outra) e eu não sei qual chmod dar. Estou aguardando alguma dica de vocês para resolver do modo rápido, antes de ter que reinstalar o sistema sem formatar a partição -- que me parece a solução mais viável de outra forma. Este funcionou para mim: Muitas vezes é necessário re-instalar o windows que está em dual-boot (Linux e Windows na mesma maquina), com a re-instalação do windows o mesmo re-escreve o MBR, ocasionando a perda do grub. Para recuperar o o Grub vamos prescisar de um livecd. Vamos aos passos para recureração: 1 - Inicializar o sistema por um livecd 2 - Vá até a linha de comando, utilizando o terminal do gerenciador de janelas ou simplesmente apertando Ctrl + Alt + F2. 3 - Digite os seguintes comandos: sudo grub find /boot/grub/stage1 (hdx,y) # Esse será o resultado da pesquisa root (hdx,y) setup (hdx) 4 - Agora é so reiniciar e seu GRUB estará lá de volta. Lista, Automaticamente, o sistema reconheceu o modem e em seguida configurei a conexão para o serviço da TIM. No entanto, na maioria das vezes, eu consigo conectar, mas não consigo navegar. Depois de algumas tentativas, desconectando e reconectando, retirando o modem da porta USB, eu finalmente consigo navegar. Como faço para solucionar esse problema? A quem interessar: consegui resolver o problema, aparentemente o kubuntu ou o grub-editor do kubuntu trocou a ordem do kernels e eu estava logando com o kernel do 8.04 e módulos instalados eram para o 8.10. Na versão 8.10, quando tento imprimir, ele diz que está impresso, porém não acho o arquivo gerado. Alguém tem alguma dica? Isso na impressora que vem embutida no Firefox (ou tvz em outros
programas).
O cups-pdf não pergunta em que formado vc quer imprimir, nem onde vai ser
salvo o arquivo.

Pra fazer funcionar, é só criar em seu home o diretório PDF.
Lembrando que para mudar qual o diretório onde se deseja salvar o arquivo
impresso, basta editar o arquivo /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf e mudar a seguinte
linha:
*Out ${HOME}/PDF*
para o diretório desejado.

2008/11/10 hamacker [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Pouco provável, pois o apt-get não instala um pacote se ele comprometer outro. Todo o dpkg -i é seguido dum apt-get install -f, que em teoria removeria pacotes que causaram dependencias não atendidas. Só mesmo uma interrupção no meio duma instalação, onde metade foi e a outra metade não. Mas é dificil no achismo. Só que há alguns momentos no Ubuntu Perfeito em que ele pergunta sobre quais usuários deverão iniciar quais serviços e se as pastas deverão ficar disponíveis, etc. Eu entendo que nesse momento ele está lidando com permissões, e pode ter havido algum problema aí. Entenda que eu não estou TE acusando de nada, estou apenas tentando entender o que pode ter acontecido durante a execução do Ubuntu Perfeito que quebrou meu sistema (a essa altura, já estou formatando e reinstalando), mas para que eu me sinta seguro para algum dia usar de novo eu gostaria de entender o que houve. Olá a todos, especialmente ao Hamacker. Relutei antes de escrever minha experiência, pois também tive problemas com a execução do script. Diante do número de companheiros que tiveram sucesso com a instalação do Ubuntu Perfeito até aquele momento, julguei que meu caso deveria ser um problema de hardware ou falha minha. O que aconteceu: dos itens do script desmarquei alguns e marquei outros conforme meu desejo; a certa altura da instalação deu a impressão que estava tentando detectar dispositivo de vídeo pois a tela ficou preta, piscou algumas vezes e não mais retornou, mesmo eu tendo aguardado algum tempo ainda e confirmado que não havia atividade de internet pois os leds do modem estavam estáticos. Resetei o PC e o X só me permitiu 800x600, nenhuma ferramenta de configuração me permitia mais que isso. Não sei se mais alguma coisa aconteceu além disso, pois logo reinstalei. Estou aguardando uma folga para fazer uma imagem da partição onde o 8.10 está instalado para fazer uma nova tentativa e desta vez anotando todos os passos que fizer para poder informar ao nosso companheiro hamacker caso venha a se apresentar o mesmo problema, a fim de que ele tenha elementos para me ajudar. Mesmo assim, e como já disse mais acima, diante do considerável número de companheiros que foram bem sucedidos na instalação do Ubuntu Perfeito, aproveito o ensejo e parabenizo o hamacker pelo seu trabalho, desejando-lhe também muito sucesso. Todo o dpkg -i é seguido dum apt-get install -f, que em teoria removeria pacotes que causaram dependencias não atendidas. Só mesmo uma interrupção no meio duma instalação, onde metade foi e a outra metade não. Mas é dificil no achismo. Só que há alguns momentos no Ubuntu Perfeito em que ele pergunta sobre quais usuários deverão iniciar quais serviços e se as pastas deverão ficar disponíveis, etc. Eu entendo que nesse momento ele está lidando com permissões, e pode ter havido algum problema aí. Entenda que eu não estou TE acusando de nada, estou apenas tentando entender o que pode ter acontecido durante a execução do Ubuntu Perfeito que quebrou meu sistema (a essa altura, já estou formatando e reinstalando), mas para que eu me sinta seguro para algum dia usar de novo eu gostaria de entender o que houve. Prezados!! Existe alguma tecla de atalho que possa se ativar para aumentar/diminuir o volume geral do sistema, para teclados que não tenham as funções de multimídia?
