A suggestion was made on the Gettin' our @$$3$ in gear. or, a team restructuring thread about creating an art council as the decision making body of this team but I believe we already have a working solution in place. Using Fedora as an example, the Fedora artTeam is lead by MairinDuffyhttp://fedoraproject.org/wiki/MairinDuffy. It is my understanding Mairin is employed by Redhat and I assume has responsibilities simular Ken's. Mairin may seek council when working issues but I believe the final decision is hers. Mairin is assisted in the day-to-day activities by Nicu Buculei. It is my understanding Nicu is not employed by Redhat but contributes to the list, maintains wiki content, and assists in getting submissions ready. Nicu has also authored some how-to's on Inkscape which were published in Redhat magazine. Our model could easily be as follows. Artwork Team Lead - Kenneth Wimer Artwork Team Ambassador - Christina Kokott ( Ken's backup ) Artwork Team Wiki Coach - Thorsten Wilms (monitors all Artwork Team wiki content) Other Coaches - As needed (e.g. packaging, icons, GTK themes) (Coach = Mentor) :) I believe anyone can subscribe to the Fedora artTeam mailing list but must be approved before they can receive team membership. That is to say mailing list subscriber does not equal team member. Some of the reasons for this is simply paper work. All team members must have a Fedora account. Having a Fedora account requires agreement to published policies and procedures. Uploading content to Fedora has many of the same dependencies as Launchpad. Very simply what are our requirements for membership? 1) ask to join (mail list) 2) disclose interest (mail list) 2) agree to code of conduct (need to validate) 3) create launchpad account (need to validate) 4) create a wiki personal page (need to validate) 5) Others (?) No. I believe much like the current membership boards that approve regional Ubuntu membership, my proposed 5-member council can to the approvals. Merhaba, NetworkManager ile ağ bağlantıları ayarlanıyor. Ancak /etc/network/interfaces dosyasında auto lo iface lo inet loopback görüldüğü üzere eth0 ve eth1 ile ilgili bir kayıt yok. NetworkManager bu alias'ları nerede tanımlıyor? eth0 ve eth1'e konsoldan ip atamak gerekirse (kalıcı olarak yazmak) interfaces dosyasına eth0 ve eth1 'ler için gerekli bilgileri manuel olarak girmek yeterli olacak mı? Tabii ki bu durumda networkmanager servisini de durdurmak gerekecek mi? Son olarak dns networkmanager devrede iken /etc/resolv.conf dosyasını manuel olarka editlemeyin gibi bir durum var. Bu durumda evdeki adsl modemin ip'si geliyor ki bu da zaman zaman nedenini anlayamadığım bir şekilde dns hizmetinin durması yüzünden web erişiminin kesilmesine neden oluyor. Jose, Do you mean public key not available or exclusive key not available? I am not aware of the latter error message. Did you try apt-get clean, apt-get update and then run update-manager -d? If you have a separate /home partition or can back up your data, I would recommend that you do a fresh install which is bound to be less error-prone. Jose I believe the upgrade process that ran earlier locked the archive or package list directory. Check if there exists any lock file in /var/cache/apt/archives or /var/lib/apt/lists/. Delete the lock file, do 'sudo apt-get update' again and then do 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade'. There are various solutions. 1. You can use aptoncd to create a CD of the packages installed on machine A (with internet access) and then use that CD on machine B (without internet access). 2. You can manually copy files from /var/lib/apt/lists and /var/cache/apt/archives from machine A to machine B and then simply run the apt-get install package commands on machine B. 3. If you are feeling brave enough, then you can try using apt-offline - https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~apt-offline/apt-offline/dev. It is a kind of service package creator for UBuntu. The way it works is, you create a profile of machine B using the tool, take that profile to machine A and retrive updated package lists as per this profile, select and download packages, create a service pack. When you posted to this list a few days back, I beleive I'd sent a pretty detailed reply, giving the settings for Pidgin. I assume that you might have missed that mail, in the multiple mails that you received. Kindly go through the mails and check the settings that were given, as I am confident they will work. They have always worked, no matter what kind of network I was setting up Pidgin/Psi on. In case you still have problems, _please try to get some screenshots_ of the errors, as I had requested in the earlier mail. We can only help you if you can provide us with the exact errors, otherwise all the solutions will sound vague. Also, if you are asking about voice chat in Gmail, then as of now, Empathy is the only one that has reported any success on that front. To do that, there are a few changes that you need to make, like adding the personal package archive of Empathy from Launchpad.net, to get the latest version. However, if you are on a network which accesses the internet through a proxy, it will not work, as it did not have support for proxies, the last time I checked. Ninad S. Les nouvelles caméras UVC de logitech fonctionneront très bien. La spécification UVC défini un modèle uniforme de communication avec l'appareil et ainsi, il n'y pas de driver spécifique pour chaque caméra. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_video_device_class La Quickcam Pro 9000 est un excellent produit UVC supporté par Linux UVC driver et V4l2. Je ne la possède pas mais je suis pas mal confiant que ça marchera du premier coup. Même expérience pour moi sur le Logitech: pas de problèmes. Ma vieille Quickcam Zoom fonctionne très bien. Même chose pour la caméra intégrée du Aspire One... Par contre, voici une contre-recommendation. C'est pas particulièrement spectaculaire, mais j'ai une webcam Microsoft VX-3000 qui avait été achetée à d'autres fins, mais qui ne fonctionne définitivement pas sous Linux, à moins d'une mise à jour manuelle des pilotes logiciels. Il existe un bug à ce sujet dans Launchpad, mais je n'ai pas les détails sous la main présentement. [ubuntu-uk] Software Media Player Recommendations (iPod sync)
Morning all, I used to use amarok for my media player when it was back in the 1.4 series. I liked that I could right click all collection and select sync to device, and it would. Try as I might, I cannot get amarok 2 to work this simply. In fact, at the moment, any context menus disappear as soon as you move the mouse (I'll look at filing a bug later today). So, what I am after is recommendations as to what media players other use, primarily as a conduit to syncing to ipods (mine is an old 30GB Video, nothing new!) So far I have tried: Rhythmbox - had to copy and paste files from my collection to the ipod Banshee - no 'devices' section, and locked up when I tried to exit Exaile - same as rhythmbox gtkpod - couldn't work out how to configure Amarok 2 - device visable, but (when tested previously) could only manually select 'transfer to device' (rather than sync) from context menu. Now, context menus won't let me select anything, and interface fits into gnome even less than before. If I am doing it wrong with any of the above players, please let me know! Podcatching ability would be nice, but not essential, as I also have an iphone which will download them over the air (and currently is being used for this). My wife has the same ipod as you, and I use banshee to sync it. It pretty much just works. What version of banshee are you using? The more recent versions are more stable and reliable. One nice feature that banshee has which I dont think the others do is that it transcodes audio to a format the ipod understands. For example I have Ogg audio files in my collection, and dragging them to the ipod icon causes them to be converted to mp3 as they are copied. Keeping the original Ogg version on my disk. It also integrated nicely with The Hype Machine and others, so you can stream and download free (legal?) music. So the release date is only a matter of hours away and now, having been reprimanded for having a beta version and moaning it wasn't working, I am planning to hopefully get Jaunty working again over the weekend. The symptoms are that it gets to the login prompt on X and then just hangs entirely. I also haven't managed to get it to boot into recovery mode either to look at logs etc., so I think there's something a bit fundamental gone wrong. Is there any way, do you think, that I could upgrade from an ISO without losing all my custom configuration, or is the best thing to back up the /home structure and wipe? Can I just check, why exactly are you using Cups? Is it for centralized administration on one server? Have you also checked under the Security properties on the printer on Windows XP? Although my other half's PC isn't on a domain (I can check one on a domain later), if I check the properties of her printer it has the following permissions on the printer: Administrators (XPDESKTOP\Administrators) can Print, Manage Printers and Manage Documents. CREATOR OWNER (as far as I know the user creating the document) can Manage Documents. Everyone can Print Power Users (XPDESKTOP\Power Users) can Print, Manage Printers. I'm just thinking maybe on a domain you might need to add something like DOMAIN\domain users to the machine and give them permissions to print, that way they'll be able to at least print and manage their own documents. I would recommend the backup reinstall method. However you might want to try a couple of things first. Try booting into rescue mode from the cd. If you can mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/my.conf then try rebooting. If that is the case then as far as Windows is concerned it is just talking to Windows. Even when it's talking to Samba it thinks it's Windows. Of course if you're trying to print from a Linux machine to a Windows machine or from a Windows Machine to a printer on a Linux machine then you probably would need CUPS installed on the Linux machine. It does sound to me like a possible permissions problem. Fortanately all the users on the domain should be a member of the DOMAIN\users group so you could give this group permissions to print to the individual printers (which is better than adding 6000 users, as you say that would be a nightmare!), at least then as any users are added or removed they would also be added or removed from the DOMAIN\users group. I have a spindle of ~90 CD's I'm not going to use myself, so I'm going to bring them along for those who want a copy of Jaunty to take home with them. [ubuntu-uk] Sound Input
Hi all, I want to use the great new Netbook Remix on my EEEPC in place of the Xandros system. Currently I have the NBR 9.04 Release Candidate on a memory stick which I boot from. However, an application I really want to use is Skype, but it is rendered useless because the sound input just does not work, either using the built in mic or a plugged in mic. (Using Xandros, it works OK and the sound output is OK everywhere.) It not just a Skype problem because sound recorder doesn't work either. Also its not just a NBR 9.04 problem, because sound input doesn't work in 8.10 on my desktop as well. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get sound input working? Tony This may not be much direct help, but perhaps a pointer. My Samsung NC10's mic did not work out of the box with 8.10, and this appeared to be a known issue about the ALSA driver and kernel version. The fix was to compile an updated driver from newer ALSA source, as described here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NC10#Audio%20-%20Alsa%20Driver As I say, this may not be of any direct use, but it may be worth checking to see if this is related to your issue. Hi all, I am alex from Beijin, I just downloaded the gdm-2.20.8 code and did configure/make, after that, I found that a gdm-binary file is created in the directory gdm_**/daemon, but I can not find it in /usr/sbin/ of the original ubuntu 8.10 system, as I know, the gdm verion for ubuntu8.10 is 2.20.8-0ubuntu3. It seems I make some mistake in configure or make, or I used wrong code. Are you trying to apply a patch? Bug in Dust Sand affecting CPUFreq applet
Hello,
In Jaunty, with the Dust Sand theme, the CPU Frequency Applet uses the same
font color as the panel background. Digging in the gtkrc file
(/usr/share/themes/Dust Sand/gtk-2.0/gtkrc), I found this workaround in
lines 539-545 that doesn't seem to be needed anymore. I can confirm that
uncommenting this fixes LP #323064 (

I don't experience issues with DarkRoom or Dust themes, it's just with Dust
Sand.

Estranho César, Pelo que andei lendo, o driver funciona muito bem com alguns modelos de radeon. Parece que infelismente você ainda não foi contemplado. Reparei que no menu tem uma opção que é Acesso Remoto ou algo assim nao me recordo ao certo no momento. Minha pergunta é se tem como eu ter acesso do meu notebook que uso ubuntu ao meu pc em casa (dual boot WinXP x Ubuntu) atraves dessa opção ou outra qualquer e para acessar o pc de casa ele deve estar rodando o ubuntu. onde fica essa opção Acesso Remoto não encontrei ela aqui. Animações em flash, rolagem de página, vídeos divx, youtube, etc. Tudo com um desempenho ótimo sem ter que mudar pra 16 bit de cores! Flash, OK. E Java? E outras coisas (q num sei quais são pois nunca use 64, mas já vi muitos comentários) problematicas com 64 bits? Mas ainda temos um porém, até hoje, nada de 3D, compiz e outras firulas.. Fala pessoal, estou usando o ubuntu 9.04 há algum tempo. Tá ótimo o sistema. Hoje fui inventar de atualizar os pacotes (a atualização diária**). Depois dessa atualização a notificação ficou estranha. muito estranha. Muito diferente da nova do ubuntu 9.04. O mais estranho é que em alguns aplicativos, como o network manager, a notificação de ex. conexão wireless estabelecida ficam normal. Agora as notificaçoes do Pidgin, controle de volume, estão todas estranhas. Alguém está enfrentando isso, e sabe o que há de errado? **A notificação automática de atualizaçoes não funciona no ubuntu 9.04. É normal? Abraços. -- Att. A. Então.. esse é o bug.. ele não notifica as atualizações.. experimenta ir em Sistema Administração Gerenc. de Atualizaçoes.. Foi o que eu fiz, e após instalar todas as atualizações as notificações (de volume, pidgin, network manager,..) ficaram estranhas. Oi César! Tem que ser no Totem? Eu particuarmente odeio esse tocador! sei que com o mplayer direto ou até mesmo o smplayer ou algo do tipo tem jeito de sincronizar on the fly Existem também alguns programas que editam a legenda, de maneira que vc pode adiantar ou atrasar, ou ainda sincronizar na mão o que tá errado. Vc pode fazer a instalação, depois rodar 1 LIVECD, fazer um dd do HD e copiar a iso pra algum lugar, rede, pendrive gigante, outro HD, ou coisa assim. Depois faz o dd da iso de volta pro HD. Nunca testei, mas em teoria funciona ;) O que eu faria seria uma personalização da iso com o remastersys (mencionado aí pra cima) e depois montava 1 servidor dhcp com suporte a boot por pxe, apontando pra iso remasterizada. Assim era só dar boot por pxe na rede (isso se as estações tiverem suporte) e mandar bala. Fugindo um pouco do assunto principal, mas aproveitando a dica do hamacker: eu instalei o 9.04 a partir do alpha 1 e fui atualizando diariamente, até hj, amanhã qdo sair a versão final, eu nao vou estar 100% atualizado e com a versão certa? Terei que baixar e instalar outra vez? Depois dessa atualização a notificação ficou estranha. muito estranha. Muito diferente da nova do ubuntu 9.04. O mais estranho é que em alguns aplicativos, como o network manager, a notificação de ex. conexão wireless estabelecida ficam normal. Agora as notificaçoes do Pidgin, controle de volume, estão todas estranhas. Agora tudo tem seu lado bom e ruim. Atualização muitas vezes é bom pois corrigi vários bugs do programa, e também corrigi vulnerabilidades, Não mexo muito com servidores, mas pelo que sei de Debian isto não é correto. Debian é 100% software livre, e por isso podem contar com uma estratégia diferente contra bugs, a qual adotaram. Versões mais novas de software corrigem alguns bugs, mas também podem trazer mais bugs. Assim o que os mantenedores dos pacotes do debian fazem ao ser descoberto um bug é apenas verificar a parte do código que corrige o bug e lançam uma nova versão do pacote, que tem o código corrigido mas fora isso se trata da versão antiga do software (nenhuma característica ou função da versão nova é acrescentada, pois podem trazer mais bugs). Imagino que esse processo pode trazer algum tempo de espera a mais para uma correção, mas em compensação ocorrem bem menos bugs. Gerenciar permissoes nas pastas octal é o cumulo do nerdismo, que há de errado em acessar/modificar as permissoes de pastas visualmente ? Porque um tar, 7z na linha de comando quando um clique com o botão direito faria a mesma coisa e sem erro de sintaxe ? Enfim, as vezes uma interface grafica ajuda, não vai ser o consumo de memória que vai atrapalhar este servidor, o servidor X de longe não consome praticamente nada, o perigo é usar a interface grafica como quebra galho e sair instalando outras coisas que não deveria. Com um bash+zenity ou python daria para fazer belos scripts visuais para administrar qualquer serviço instalado sem medo de deixar na mão do estagiario. Claro que se o servidor estiver rodando somente o squid, e ele for um dual core pelo menos, isso não fará diferença. Porém, o grande problema que vejo com a Interface Gráfica em um servidor e que nós acabamos usando o servidor para outra coisa (como navegar na net mesmo). Um servidor sem interface gráfica, não permitira que você fique navegando na internet. Pois a grande diferença entre o ubuntu server e o desktop é justamente a ausência de interface gráfica. Agora se a máquina tiver a finalidade de rodar um servidor de BD por exemplo, e tiver uns 50 clientes fazendo consulta a este BD, com certeza o vários kbytes de memória consumida pela interface farão diferença, e claro que não preciso ir longe pra ver isso, basta dar um top e começar a fazer requisições e chamadas, mesmo em um Mysql. Quanto a uma boa interface gráfica de auxilio a manutenção de um servidor, bem minha gente, tem o webmin e ainda no caso de administração de BD tem o phpmyadmin para o mysql e tem uma ferramenta web para o postgree. è claro que nada impede que novas ferramentas sejam desenvolvidas para a gerência via WEB. Bem, voltando a thread original. Eu gosto do ubuntu server para pequenos servidores, onde irei atender até uns 100 terminais, e geralmente para acesso WEB como squid, firewall, apache, DNS, samba, etc. Agora, onde há necessidade de utilizar mais de 100 computadores, e será feita a utilização de BD, ai eu particularmente ja prefiro o debian, por sua estabilidade conhecida. O repositorio do ubuntu é muito completo, então eu ja posso utilizar ele no debian.
