This is a suggestion since I have no talent in art G When Ubuntu first boot with the Ubuntu and the few dots under I would recommend the following Have the word Ubuntu written inside the logo with the logo gradually increasing with the original color using each segment as Ubuntu loads the same could be applied when system check using a gradual scale per segment... I'm pretty sure that's impossible, because I believe the current boot doesn't know the progress. That's why the dots actually loop and don't light up following the percentage of the OS loaded. Hi Shrikant, if you are not planning to upgrade your hardware or do not need any software updates, i.e., if you think that all the software you have installed currently is fine, it's ok if you do not upgrade. But you need to realise that you are talking about an operating system that's about 2 and ahlf years old with no promise of Long Time Support. I would personally suggest that you should install (not upgrade) Ubuntu 10.04 when it releases at the end of this month. Besides supporting latest hardware and having software updates, this Ubuntu has Long Term Support (LTS Edition). Plus, the community will help you more with updated software rather than old software. Sure I would recommend you to upgrade to a LTS (Long Term Support) Operating system which has 3 years of updates (Software updates are most important part of Operating system due to security reasons). But remember, don't install any amature ununtu distro version, so wait for at least a month after 10.04 is released so that most common bugs are debugged... 64 bit is great, better performance than 32 bit and most importantly your computer will not reset in 2038 AD. lol... The hardware specifications looks good for 64 bit. [ubuntu-in] Ubuntu 32 bit or 64 bit?
Hello Everyone, I have a Core 2 Duo PC and I have to install Ubuntu on it. I would like to know if I have to go with 32 bit or 64 bit. Sure I know that 32 OS bit will work on 64 bit processor. But I want to really use the 64 bit if its supported by processor. Are there any known issues in the 64 bit version of Ubuntu with Core 2 Duo (if supported)? How is the availability of softwares(open source, some graphics card drivers etc)? Will all 32 bit packages work on 64 bit Ubuntu OS? Your inputs will be very helpful. Go to the below link. http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Select linux and download the Flash Player 10 for Linux (.deb). Double click on the downloaded file to install. But the speed up is noticable. Because after its release soon the Ubuntu 8.10 support will be stopped. I really am impressed with the touch screen. I haven't picked one up yet but I am tempted. I've just got to figure out how to run the thing in a car (assuming it's possible). It's a shame it hasn't got some sort of video output too as I know someone who is looking for a basic web surfing PC and I bet this would have been ideal. Backports to LTS
Hello all, I believe a significant quantity of Ubuntu Studio users stay with a LTS version for stability reasons and I feel strongly about providing reasonable backports for the latest LTS version. Therefore, would it be unreasonable to maintain an official Ubuntu Studio backport PPA? This would provide a single additional repository for users to add that would provide continual and pervasive updates to applications for those who do not wish to leave the stability of the LTS versions. This would be in contrast to searching for various PPA's to find the application you want updated. I have already made a limited commitment to backport certain core applications (eg JACK, Ardour) in my own PPA. If the suggestion for an official Ubuntu Studio backports PPA is rejected I will continue to support the LTS backports in my personal PPA. If the suggestion is accepted I would gladly accept responsibility for a similar limited scope of backports. I look forward to seeing comments on this idea. I have to apologize because I meant to mention this in my previous email. In my limited experience trying to backport Ardour, JACK and CELT for Hardy it seemed that the backport team was not extremely responsive to the backport bugs for those applications. I believe I even contacted the team at one point but it has been a good amount of time since then so I cannot be definitive. My reasoning was that the backport team, much like other teams, has limited resources and addressed the most pressing concerns and then transitioned the packages to my own PPA and made them available. But your response, Jussi, has galvanized me into action. I will email JDong about backporting such applications and mention that I would be extremely happy to volunteer for their team. The dash of aubergine gives the topic a nice jolt of life. * New media.png replacing the Rhythmbox icon. Another good news, i've tried the boot on the RT kernel, Gdm identification is now working, so Lucid is running here under the Linux laurent-laptop 2.6.31-10-rt #153-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT RT Tue Jan 12 11:01:03 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux A message very short during the boot says something about the ATI radeon driver... and at the end, the cube desktop and 3D acceleration is not working under the RT kernel with my ati radeon 3470 HD. Maybe I left some modules for the RT kernel, i'm gonna see tonight. On the generic kernel, the 3D cube desktop is working very very well, 3D acceleration is excellent, and Cairo Dock without Open GL is absoloutly supported, better than under other Ubuntu ever. Atheros Wifi is now working well under the both kernel...Great. Lucid RT amd64, severals tests
Hi all, Tests are going on under Lucid amd64 RT, Jackd is working fine, latence is 11,6 ms with my small integrated via sound card, i've got no xruns. RT kernel is running fine too. I've tested a connexion to hydrogen, no trouble noticed. Then i've launched a session in ardour, to pilot hydrogen, recording a track and jack. It goes fine... I've launched zynaddsubfx, it's good too, and i've tried to change live of instrument by using a drumkit taken into the bank, and very good news, it works live !!! without deconnexion as in hardy/jaunty/karmic releases... That's great... you have done very good jobs guys ;-D Lprod.org team is gonna make a complete demo of free video/audio editing with Lucid beta 2 next saturday... Trying to install lucid beta on a SCSI box, attempt 2
Ok, then... I am trying to control my rage... and extract some useful information of my day with ubuntu. This day. This night. I followed the advice to install normal ubuntu first, then add the ubuntustudio stuff. That way, I hoped to get the standard stuff like network management including 3G dialup. Well... that is about true ... but what I also got was a bunch of new experienes. 1. First Install I booted the ubuntu ludic beta1 live CD... did a straight forward install (just manually selecting the partition to install to). This one manages to setup up a boot manager correctly... plus, it's able to download language packages from the internet through the configured 3G dialup. Even smart enough to copy the dialup config to the installed system. I had to add rootdelay=90 to the boot command line because of the well-known (???) bug of SCSI disks not being found in time, but I expected that. Still sucks... I wonder if this is some bug specific to ubuntu or just an effect of having the SCSI driver as module with modern kernels. Then, in the booted fresh install, I popped in the ubuntustudio DVD and followed the popup window about accessing that medium as package source with synaptic. Selected the ubuntustudio profile packages... and let it grab a load of stuff from the net, too. This took some time, with the dialup not being that broad banded (about 250 MiB with about 30K/s). 1.1 Known issue: Bad resolution This is fine with plain ubuntu but bad with ubuntu studio: The automatic X11 setup uses a bad resolution. After switching to the ubuntu studio kernel (I assume X11 is not changed), the system wants to run my 15 inch TFT with 1366x768 resolution (I think it was this widescreen res, to big in any case) instead of 1024x768. I knew that from my first install, so I quickly had /etc/X11/xorg.conf created with a fixed set of resolutions. Of course that sucks when we replace the monitor and I have to rember to adapt/delete the xorg.conf ... the default does not work. Bug report needed for this one? Possible that this issue goes away when updating the kernel to 2.6.33-rt10 or so... (I am still wondering if I should install a custom kernel after all ... to include the SCSI driver and hope for reduced rootdelay). 1.2 Big Bad Breakage Now... the crashing plymouth kept nagging me (would a system update really fix this now? -- I need to see if my next visit at the box is long enough for the downloads). It's main function seems to be nagging (and irritate newbies), so I decided to rip plymouth out. Due to a dangerous fling, I clicked on the Software Center menu entry. Searched for plymouth ... removed the daemon... seen that there still is a package for plymouth shared libs... wondered how much stuff might depend on it... figured that one will get warnings about removing dependent stuff (like synaptic does it)... deleted it. B-O-O-M! X11 is killed ... I manage to activate a plain console ... and see that I unwittingly entered a major system fubar. Tried to restart gdm ... there is no gdm ... tried to look after the binary... there is no /bin/ls! Wow. There even is no halt, reboot or shutdown. This system is really ripped apart for good. This is something one really would like to avoid happening to new users, old users ... anyone. This Software Center thingie is supposed to be the bubbly-touchy-feely admin interface for Linux newbies / notcarealots, right? I consider it a serious bug that it hoses the whole install beyond repair for any average ubuntu user (well, except for reinstall). Is this something known? Shall I make a flaming report on launchpad? 2. Second Install Since the system was still pretty vanilla (before the blow-up), I rather decided on starting from scratch, reinstall ubuntu, add ubuntu studio on top again. This time I wanted to avoid waiting hours for downloads, so I saved /var/cache/apt/archives and shoved it back once the basic system was installed. That worked nicely... but what didn't work was the install of archives from the ubuntu studio DVD. 2.1 Aptstinence A first time, the familiar popup about package source CDROM (well, or DVD) being inserted appeared and made me install the first part of ubuntu studio (the desktop stuff, AFAIR). It might have something to do with the system having too many CD/DVD drives (2 real ones, one virtual from the Huawei E160 modem)... or rather with the automagic mounting system. I have seen that the media was mounted under /media/Ubuntu-bla-bla_, not under /media/Ubuntu-bla-bla ... both directories exist. Hi, Just a side comment. Unrelated, I have a M-Audio MobilePre USB preamp. I gave up trying to get it to work, but the next day I had gotten a link to a video to view. Having forgotten that the preamp was still plugged into the USB, I attempted to view it. My sound was completely locked out. I gave up trying to get it back. My ubuntu Studio had recognized the USB but I was unable to get it working. Then after the online video thing I began to suspect it has something to do with DRM and Adobe/Macromedia FlashPlayer. I had a similar experience in windows. At least in windows I was able to edit the registry and remove the keys that were disabling sound. In windows it was only disabled with online videos. But in Ubuntu it was just disabled. I did a reinstall. I haven't plugged it in since. Para entrar como root você já tentou o comando - sudo su Se dessa forma não funcionar, entre no ubuntu como modo seguro, uma das opções que o grub te da, faça um backup e reinstale o sistema. É o sudo su ta dando erro no /etc/sudoers ai nao consigo mudar nada
por causa do sudo que não funciona.
Bem lembrando do modo de segurança. Sabe a permissão padrão do / ? Eu
poderia ver se via modo seguro eu daria essa permissão básica e
voltaria :D
Ainda bem que nao foi um rm -rf /, mas a dor de cabeca e tao grande quanto.

Olá Xisberto, isso quer dizeer então que o ubuntu não instalou o recurso necessário para reconhecer esse suporte do meu monitor, pois ele suporta sim; pior, isso me parece então que nenhuma linha de comando ou software iria me possibilitar o controle do brilho, já que eles irão reconhecer o equipamento como sem suporte. De qualquer maneira, você sabe onde se encontra ou o nome desse plugin do compiz para eu tentar? Estou na interface do compiz modo avançado, mas não consegui ver nada a respeito. Talvez algum driver no Xorg esteja faltando, algum relativo ao seu modelo de monitor. Infelizmente não sei como pesquisar para encontrar isso. Como o proprio titulo já diz, alguem saberia me dizer quais as diferenças entre estes dois programas? Tenho usado o amule e ele funciona bem, mas tem horas que ele resolve não conversar com o modem ou roteador(para liberar as portas que usa), quando ele conversa tenho uma id alta e tudo fica bem, quando não se entendem fica com uma id baixa e muito lento. Existe outro programa como emule para o linux ? Importante é que uso o linux (9.10) no vmware, em um computador windows(necessidade do trabalho, sem escolha). Sim consegui. O que não dá é para ficar pesquisando no histórico da lista com o Orca, ele se enrola muito. Boa tarde, Acabo de me escrever na lista, mas ainda não tenho o Linux em minha máquina mas como adiquirí-la? Para fazer o curso on line no Projeto Linux Brasil e aprender sobre o programa pois não sei absolutamente nada, preciso têlo instalado. Havendo distribuidores gratuitos, como devo proceder para ter um CD de instalação? Olá Elio, No seu caso eu aconselho a reservar se possivel um computador so para estudar o sistema, isso caso você deseje istala-lo no PC, e aconselho a iniciar com o uso do proprio Ubuntu que você pode adquirir nesse endereço: http://www.ubuntu-br.org/ Eu prefiro baixar atraves do link direto, é um arquivo .iso que você deverá gravar em um CD. Feito isso basta iniciar o computador pelo CD, que ele ira carregar o sistema e você poderá utilizar tanto pelo live CD, como instalar no PC. A diferença em si é que no live CD todas as configurações que vc fizer serão perdidas ao reiniciar o PC, mas já é um bom caminho para aprender sobre o sistema. Espero ter ajudado... Boa tarde, Elio. Para baixar, você vai precisar, antes de mais nada, escolher qual das diversas distribuições você quer. Como você não as conhece e essa lista é sobre o Ubuntu, vou me ater a essa distribuição. Você pode baixar um arquivo imagem para ser gravado em um CD/DVD ou pendrive aqui: http://www.ubuntu.com/ Escolha a imagem mais adequada ao seu computador (Netbook, Desktop/Notebook, Servidor, etc.) e baixe o arquivo ISO. Para gravar esse arquivo num CD/DVD, você pode utilizar o programa gravador da sua preferência, apenas tendo em mente que não basta apenas copiar o arquivo para o disco, e sim deve-se utilizar a opção gravar arquivo de imagem em disco, disponível na maioria dos programas atuais. Se preferir gravar em um pendrive, sugiro que utilize o Unetbootin, disponível em http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/. Esses passos vão ajudálo a ter um disco ou pendrive bootável, através do qual você não precisará instalar nada para usar e tomar alguma intimidade com o sistema. Você apenas coloca o disco no drive (ou o pendrive numa porta USB) e pede ao seu computador para dar boot por ele. Se decidir instalá-lo, haverá um ícone na área de trabalho para isso, mas essa operação deve ser pensada com cuidado, se você decidir utilizar ambos os sistemas no mesmo computador. Se esse for o caso, faça backups do seus arquivos, faça uma desfragmentação do Windows, decida quanto do seu HD você disponibilizará para o Linux, faça um inventário do seu hardware (placa mãe, vídeo, som, etc.). Só depois pense em começar a instalar. se você não for manrter o Windows, basta clicar no ícone de instalação e ir clicando em avançar :-). Abraço.
