[ubuntu-uk] kernel - missing header.
Hi there When I tried to re-build the module for my wi-fi dongle, I got the error that smp_lock.h was missing. I eventually found a workaround on a Swedish site! Simply putting a symlink into an earlier set of headers does the trick - this works for me. The file is in /usr/src/linux-headers-[XYZ], and if the earlier one is not available legacy headers can be found in the repo. Might save someone a bit of head scratching. Should I report this as a bug? If so, how? Re: Sound in Skype
Hi Anthony, using Skype daily, I have the same experience. It seems that the test call stuck sometimes or is just not approachable. I can't say what happened, but it has definitely nothing to do with your settings. The problem occurs on Linux and Windows equally. I got the feeling that the whole service dropped over the last months, because we also had problems with the paid services of Skype without getting any apologize or credit notes for not delivered services. regards Ferdi -Original Message- From: Anthony Brow tb...@internode.on.net Reply-to: tb...@internode.on.net To: ubuntu list ubuntu-au@lists.ubuntu.com Subject: Re: Sound in Skype Date: Fri, 26 Aug 2011 18:38:11 +1000 Hi Folks, Recently, although working ok for quite a while, the incoming sound in Skype is not working. Also the sound settings are ok. The Skype 'sound test' is good, but the test call just does not work (at least the lady's voice cannot be heard) People online in Skype can hear me ok. I get the impression that the problem is with Skype. And seeing Skype is now owned by Microsoft, who would one contact there ? The suggestion has been made to use an older version of Skype, but I am not sure that this is still available for Ubuntu 11.04. Here's a brief intro http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4D_a-h4XFMo How does this apply to Ubuntu you say? If you add from the hundreds of topics the Open Source and Linux/Unix topic groups, you can discover lots of new and different projects currently being used or in development that may work with Ubuntu. It's not really a spam war. I try to live by one of Wikipedia's core principles: Assume good faith. It looks like some individuals from the Tunisian Ubuntu community are accidentally editing the main page while they are trying to sign up for the next Global Jam. Banning individuals from community participation for a mistake is not very welcoming. If you like, compare those edits with https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TunisianTeam/GlobalJam11.09 Perhaps this is because the individuals login so that they can edit the Global Jam page but when login is complete, the front page loads instead of the page they were on. The Ubuntu wiki Launchpad gets only a relatively minimal amount of spam which I credit to the registration requirement and the work of Launchpad administrators and community volunteers who help to clean up what little does happen. [Bug 835818] [NEW] Can't boot qemu w/o kvm (no boot=on param, upstream patch)
Public bug reported: I can't boot ReactOS's qemu when using libvirt, but I can from the command line when I remove the -drive parameter's boot=on, text (along with vnc and -S to get it to show a window and start outside of libvirt). http://sourceforge.net/projects/reactos/files/ReactOS/0.3.13/ReactOS-0.3.13-REL-qemu.zip/download The problem *seems* to be patched upstream at: http://libvirt.org/git/?p=libvirt.git;a=commitdiff;h=e7da872294bd1cfaa9733e1292476221659ab47b The git tree shows version 0.8.2 for this patch so Lucid is affected, maverick and later likely aren't affected. [Bug 835766] Re: package dhcp3-client 3.1.3-2ubuntu3.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script killed by signal (Segmentation fault)
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in application being used by the package installation process. Unfortunately, this bug report isn't very useful in its current state and a crash report would be much more useful. Could you try recreating this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package again? This process will create a new bug report so I am marking this one as Invalid. [Ubuntu-US-CA] Fwd: [Discussion] Pizza and Triagefest Sunday 8/28/11
Hi everyone, I have other obligations so I won't be able to make it, but the Partimus folks could use the help of some volunteers at a San Francisco school tomorrow doing some basic triaging of systems if you have time. -- Forwarded message -- From: Christian Einfeldt einfe...@gmail.com Date: Fri, Aug 26, 2011 at 8:42 PM Subject: [Discussion] Pizza and Triagefest Sunday 8/28/11 To: discuss...@lists.partimus.org discuss...@lists.partimus.org Hi, This Sunday, 8/28/11, we will be having a triage fest at the Creative Arts Charter School (CACS) from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 pm. The Creative Arts Charter School is located at the corner of Pierce and Turk Streets in San Francisco. Bring all the tools that you need to diagnose desktop computers. You might also want to bring copies of Ubuntu 10.04 if you have them. Also, bring a hungry belly, because we will have pizza and soft drinks for everyone who shows up! We will be testing machines in the CACS lab to make sure that they are working properly. If they are not working properly, we will be canabalizing them for other machines. Please call Christian Einfeldt at 415-351-1300 when you arrive at Turk and Pierce, and I will come out and get you. Getting into the school is tricky, so it is best to just call me from the corner of Pierce and Turk when you arrive. ___ Discussion mailing list discuss...@lists.partimus.org http://lists.partimus.org/listinfo.cgi/discussion-partimus.org -- Elizabeth Krumbach // Lyz // pleia2 http://www.princessleia.com -- Ubuntu-us-ca mailing list Ubuntu-us-ca@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-us-ca
