[ubuntu-in] Weekly Get together #2 : Reminder

2009-02-07 Thread shan chak
The topics set for this week is :
1.Bug reporting and solving
2.How to create themes in ubuntu

Since the Global Bug Jam is on 20 Feb I think we should devote the whole 2 hrs
on "bugs" . I need your suggestion. Many LoCo teams are organizing bug camps
maybe this week's get together can be like a camp on IRC.

Weekly get together #2 Sunday 8th Feb 9PM to 11PM.
Everyone is invited.

[ubuntu-in] Weekly Get Together #2

2009-02-03 Thread shan chak
Hi Thanks for all the responses and support by ubuntu-in for successful weekly
get together #1 and I am looking forward to the #2.
-->First of all I need some feedback about the last weekly get together for
improvement.

During the session I gave some wrong facts which were soon spot and corrected
by tuxmaniac . I was of the impression that there will be a few beginners so I
tried to simplify the matter as much as possible which led to the distortion of
facts. I apologize.

->You need not to be a computer engineer to start developing. If you know
how to type you can become a developer. Thats the beauty of Open Source .

The topic for the next session will be:
1) Bugs : Reporting and Solving(continued from last week)
2) How to create themes and icons in ubuntu

In this session we will do and learn.
Everybody is invited.

P.S. Gurus are requested to share their knowledge by giving some presentation.

Dont you think 9'0 clock is very very early. That too on a sunday.
After a Saturday night party it will be difficult for most of the
folks. May be 1400 hrs after lunch?

I would like to talk on the upcoming Global Bug Jam[1] and what could
be planned as part from Ubuntu India LoCo. (if the time can be
postponed)

Will do it in the Future events page. Infact you can do it too. Its a
Wiki :-) Hopefully other fellow admins will be around too. Its too
early for me (I live -4.5 hrs IST) if its at 0900 hrs. But my ghost
will be around as always.

Re: [ubuntu-in] Weekly get together

2009-01-30 Thread shan chak
Hi guys about the "Weekly get together"
I asked a few LoCo guys in #ubuntu-offtopic channel about their experiences in
organizing such meeting and I got some valuable suggestions.
So here is the plan:
The meeting will start on 9 'o' clock Sunday till 11 'o' clock PM IST Sunday
1st Feb
It will consist of following
1. First 15 minutes on Linux and how its developed and distributed.
2. Nest 30 minutes on Ubuntu , Mark Shuttleworth,Cannical and Launchpad(LP).
3. Next 1h15min on the problem Indian ubuntu users face. The problems that will
be addressed in this session will be:
a. Lack of fast Internet Connection so need to provide some way to upgrade
ubuntu in offline mode.
b. How to create LP accounts and report bugs.
c. Women Indian Ubuntu developers.( THIS WAS POINTED OUT BY "Myriatti" IN
#ubuntu-offtopic CHANNEL)
d. Motivating developers to form a team to create Ubuntu-India distro so that
the propreitary packages which are not in the original ubuntu distro but is
legal in India to be freely distributed can be included ( thats a step towards
solving the problem the guy faced when installing ubuntu in a remote village of
Karnataka ).
e. Topics to be taken in the next meeting.
The meeting needs enthusiastic volunteers who want to give presentation in any
of the above topics.
Please give your suggestions.
Volunteers please mail me your name with topics you are interested in giving
presentation ( please try to give more than one topic and also if you have any
experience in that area ) , I know some of the topics are going to be more
favourite and in any case of collision over a topic the presenters will be
assigned on "FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS".
IRC clients : XCHAT(sudo apt-get install xchat)
 meebo(www.meebo.com)
Please get accustomed to using IRC if you are not.Presentation in IRC is not a
presentaion on ppt rather present as if you are chatting. How to give
presentation in IRC see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MeetingLogs/devweek0901/Package
.Volunteers and gurus please meet on Saturday 9 PM IST for test run and
planning the meeting.
Looking forward for:
1. suggestions
2. enthusiastic and knowledgeable presenters.

The session will not entertain any problems regarding:
1. ubuntu apps problem like : "my wi-fi is not working","how to install wine"
etc etc for this type of stuffs you have #ubuntu ..
2. no offensive and personal comments.
3. no flooding.
4. no questioning during the presentation of the first 2 points which include
Linux , Ubuntu, Mark Shuttleworth, Canonical and LP after this you can post as
many questions as you like.
5. Follow the above 4 rules strictly to maintain the decorum of the channel.

I REQUEST THE CHANNEL ADMIN TO BE PRESENT THERE SO THAT HE/SHE CAN BAN THE
USERS VIOLATING THE COMMUNITY GUIDELINES AND ADMINS PLEASE POST THIS ON UBUNTU
INDIA WEBSITE.

[ubuntu-in] Weekly get together

2009-01-26 Thread shan chak
Hi guys I have been using ubuntu for 2 years now,and I have followed LoCo teams
of various countries like US LoCos (Georgia LoCo for example release podcasts
every week), they do great stuffs to help ubuntu users and to increase number
of ubuntu users.
In India we have problems thats not recognized by lots of guys in ubuntu forums
and IRC channel:
1.The internet is slow to majority of users or no internet at all in many cases.
2.Very little and vague knowledge about computers in the large part of our
country.
3.Thats why number of computer users are very less in India.
4.Piracy is rampant.
5.So for the users ,both linux and windows come free we need to explain what
Linux and ubuntu means in philosophy and practice.
6.There are various projects in LaunchPad(LP) which aims at developing support
for Indian Languages and indian-fonts but many of them have a few devs.

So I was thinking of Ubuntu-India family fun meeting in
#ubuntu...@irc.freenode.net every sunday night to discuss issues , bugs ,
attract developers or just to chat about their ubuntu experiences.
What do you think guys???
Any volunteers and suggestions???
