I think Lee is right, more testers should participate. I think they would if asked to, and if it is easy. Would it not be possible to combine the test at "friendly.ubuntu.com" with the test at "laptop.qa.ubuntu.com", so the test from friendly are reported to QA and can be collected the right way. -And then invite lots of people to run the test at the needed times? Join Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 Laptop Testing
Hi all! Precise Beta 2 is out now and we ask everyone on the QA team to participate in the laptop testing. The procedures for testing your laptop and reporting results are explained on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Laptop/Procedures We'll use the new version the Laptop tracker [1] to test this milestone. If you find any bug with this version, you can report them on launchpad against the project ubuntu-qa-website [2]. You'll only require: 1) a launchpad account in order to authenticate on the new tracker; 2) a laptop profile (preferably from the Ubuntu Friendly website [3]) to put in the Hardware Profile field of each test you perform. if you find any bug with the release, report them on Launchpad and link them on the tracker as usual. Please let us know if you have any questions, we will coordinate testing in #ubuntu-testing on freenode. Thank you very much for your help and happy testing! 2012/2/15 Hansen : > Hi. > Will there be a Laptop testing of precise pangolin, and at what point? Hi Hansen, the testing tracker is "on rework", from the old Drupal 4/5 code to Drupal 7. Some parts, like reporting bugs, bugs stats etc., have already been ported (thanks to Stephan Graber) others, like hardware profile/reports not yet. Anyway, hopefully there will be a testing cycle for Precise Beta 1 and Precise Beta 2. > What is the "API key for XMLRPC interface", i need to log in at my profile > at http://laptop.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/profile, and are my hardware > profile for laptop testing stored there? Hi. Will there be a Laptop testing of precise pangolin, and at what point? What is the "API key for XMLRPC interface", i need to log in at my profile at http://laptop.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/profile, and are my hardware profile for laptop testing stored there? Re: Asus Eee PC 701/4G Laptop Testing Results
Hello ! See my post on this list "Introduction & Eee PC". I'm a new arrival so I need some help here ... What are test cases and how do I run them ? Please explain or direct me to the appropriate wiki page. In the meantime I will start putting bugs in. I'll also publish a guide (on the Lubuntu wiki?) showing how to do what I have done until the fixes are included in future releases. Some more background context about the importance of this (comments welcome). 1. Ubuntu gets seen as "bloated" which is why it's recommended to run things like AntiX on low spec machines. AntiX can be very good for really old computers - I have it running on an ancient 486 laptop running a webcam, but it does not provide the large community and ethos that Ubuntu does. 2. "One laptop per child" ... "The Eee series is one response to the XO-1 notebook from the One Laptop per Child initiative. At the Intel Developer Forum 2007, Asus demonstrated the Classmate PC and the Eee PC, and listed specifications for four models of the Eee PC." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eee_pc Making sure Ubuntu/Lubuntu can run on the Eee is a good test case for allowing as much access as possible for those in countries where high performance hardware is not a priority. From what I've found out so far there's no reason to have to exclude those people just because Ubuntu uses the latest applications or kernel. I've actually been surprised how easy it is too cut down the kernel and packages to fit into smaller and smaller hard drives and memory. Of course I'm new here so I'm still finding out how this fits into the Ubuntu way of doing things. Yep, I have. Is the procedure similar as installing ubuntu and during installation, select advanced option for partition and creating a new one out of it? Will do that today. Dani, the instructions on the testing page are pretty explicit NOT to use a virtual machine. What works for me is to have a spare hard drive for testing. At least on my old Toshiba and Dell, it only takes five minutes to swap. Re: New laptop testing
Hi, I have been testing both alpha 2 and alpha 3 on my CQ-60 laptop and everything works with an exception of a minor bug or to. One in particular well crash all of the ccsm manager and your left with a blank desktop. That's not the bad part you can't bring up terminal to fix it. It also affects the the desktop classic session if you log into it. So you are forced to reinstall everything. Iv also put 11.04 on my gateway laptop I haven't tried to reproduce the bug on that one yet. But my main question is has anyone come across that problem on there computer. If you have a laptop and you want to help ensure users have a smooth experience with the same make/model you have, the Laptop Testing project [1] is waiting for you. The goal of this testing is to catch regressions early in the cycle, and fix bugs before they reach a major audience. Please, get ready to download the Alpha 1 image when it'll be released and go! There are workarounds in both bugs, but it's always better to be aware that it might not work quite as well as you'd expect sooner rather than later. That doesn't mean however that we wouldn't appreciate testing. I'd be very interested to know about your experiences with it. You just might want to try with a live CD first. I also checked ML archives but no clue about the activity of the project. I don't know how to contact the project leader, I can't find info about him. I highly recommend getting in touch with Manoj Iyer (manjo, #ubuntu-kernel), who can point you to work done via usb key images so that testing can, first and foremost, take place with them (provided the hardware supports booting from them). See > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelCompatibilityTesting > Thank you for the suggestion but the Laptop testing project is intended to be a simple way for anyone (ordinary users or even newbies) to test their own laptop. Here are the testcases: http://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/Plans/LaptopTesting I find the approach you point out a bit complicated to carry out for ordinary users. That said, I would be happy to contact Manoj and talk about this. BTW, in the announce I forgot to mention that Thursday 25 is the "Alpha 3" day, so it would be nice to start testing some laptops. ;-) Moreover, as Ara told me few days ago, it would be wonderful to use the project in the coming Ubuntu Global Jam. :-) What do you all think about it? Announce: New Laptop Testing Project.
Hello everyone, I'm proud to announce a new project born within the Testing Team of Italian LoCo. >From the "Introduction" section: "The Laptop Testing Project is open to anyone who would like to provide important hardware information of their own laptops. We're on a mission to get Ubuntu to work great on as many different makes and models of laptops as possible. To do this, we need to know which hardware works straight off the install CD and which hardware needs configuring or is poorly supported." The goal of the project is to create various reports like this [2] as results of Laptop testing using milestone releases of the development version (Lucid alphas, betas and release candidates). I created a Wiki page in English [1] that can be useful to anyone that want to use it in their LoCo Testing Team as well as in the Ubuntu QA Community itself. If you want to take part in this adventure, here [1] you can find all needed information. Thanks for helping making Ubuntu even better!
