I think Lee is right, more testers should participate. I think they would if asked to, and if it is easy. Would it not be possible to combine the test at "friendly.ubuntu.com" with the test at "laptop.qa.ubuntu.com", so the test from friendly are reported to QA and can be collected the right way. -And then invite lots of people to run the test at the needed times? Hello ! See my post on this list "Introduction & Eee PC". I'm a new arrival so I need some help here ... What are test cases and how do I run them ? Please explain or direct me to the appropriate wiki page. In the meantime I will start putting bugs in. I'll also publish a guide (on the Lubuntu wiki?) showing how to do what I have done until the fixes are included in future releases. Some more background context about the importance of this (comments welcome). 1. Ubuntu gets seen as "bloated" which is why it's recommended to run things like AntiX on low spec machines. AntiX can be very good for really old computers - I have it running on an ancient 486 laptop running a webcam, but it does not provide the large community and ethos that Ubuntu does. 2. "One laptop per child" ... "The Eee series is one response to the XO-1 notebook from the One Laptop per Child initiative. At the Intel Developer Forum 2007, Asus demonstrated the Classmate PC and the Eee PC, and listed specifications for four models of the Eee PC." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eee_pc Making sure Ubuntu/Lubuntu can run on the Eee is a good test case for allowing as much access as possible for those in countries where high performance hardware is not a priority. From what I've found out so far there's no reason to have to exclude those people just because Ubuntu uses the latest applications or kernel. I've actually been surprised how easy it is too cut down the kernel and packages to fit into smaller and smaller hard drives and memory. Of course I'm new here so I'm still finding out how this fits into the Ubuntu way of doing things. Here are my testing results for the Asus Eee PC 701/4G. It is now running really fast on my system ! It could do with a little more memory for those who open a lot of tabs in Firefox. Yep, I have. Is the procedure similar as installing ubuntu and during installation, select advanced option for partition and creating a new one out of it? Will do that today. I won't be able to swap my laptop's harddrive, I only have one. I will use the liveCD amd64 to test. Then use the 32bit liveCD. Dani, the instructions on the testing page are pretty explicit NOT to use a virtual machine. What works for me is to have a spare hard drive for testing. At least on my old Toshiba and Dell, it only takes five minutes to swap. Proprietary vs Open source drivers w/ Laptop Testing
I have a newer ATI card in my laptop which doesn't have adequate 3d acceleration. Unity runs fine but Minecraft will only get 6-15fps. ATI's proprietary drivers still don't work with Xorg 1.1 so this question is moot for Natty, but if I'm testing Maverick which drivers should I test? James, How did you modify grub for backlighting? Is there a thread or a wiki page on how to do it? I never did get it to work on my Thinkpad 510 with Lucid or Maverick. I've been going through the laptop tests in preparation for the Natty beta release next week. I noticed that there is no test for backlight dimming. This would be useful to test. It can make a big different on the battery life. My HP Envy 14 passes, but my MacbookPro.2 fails. Hi, I have been testing both alpha 2 and alpha 3 on my CQ-60 laptop and everything works with an exception of a minor bug or to. One in particular well crash all of the ccsm manager and your left with a blank desktop. That's not the bad part you can't bring up terminal to fix it. It also affects the the desktop classic session if you log into it. So you are forced to reinstall everything. Iv also put 11.04 on my gateway laptop I haven't tried to reproduce the bug on that one yet. But my main question is has anyone come across that problem on there computer. In response to the article here: http://primes2h.wordpress.com/2011/03/25/lets-test-your-laptop-now/ and the fact that I've been in the Linux world for 16 years and haven't contributed as much as I should have, I've followed the instructions so I can contribute to laptop testing. My primary laptop that I can do whatever I want with in terms of testing is an HP Pavillion DV7-4263cl. I can also do non-destructive testing on an older HP nx6310 and Toshiba A205-S5864. Hi all, When doing some testing on my laptop, I noticed the following line: "Double-click the icon labeled fables_01_01_aesop.spx. A media player will open." But it seems that on Maverick, this file doesn't exist in the Examples folder. So what should be done? Filing a bug against example-content or just modifying the wiki? I've joined to contribute in some small way to Ubuntu and open source. About me; a self-taught geek. Too damn proud to actually ever take a computer class and too stubborn to give up on hardware/software issues when most other people would have given up. Lots of late nights with the user manuals and guides, but I've learned a lot. Presently using Ubuntu Studio 90% of the time and booting either Windows 7 or Mac OSX Snow Leopard on my Dell 1545. Just set up my launchpad wiki, correctly I think, and will begin testing Maverick Meerkat. Laptop testing: upgrade after installing
Hello dear ubuntu qa, On laptop testing steps ( https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Laptop#How%20to%20make%20a%20Laptop%20Testing%20Report ), the first step after installing and before start testing shouldn't be sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude upgrade ? I started testing and something crashed. But I couldn't send the issue because apport said there were some outdated packages.
