Yes, that is a good idea :) We should really take some time to compile a
FAQ soon. I guess we could start a 'FAQ you answer' master-thread and
gather questions and their answer to some wiki page until we can put it on
the website :D

this might not be the answer you want, but its how i manage my fonts:

In font manager, you can deactivate all the fonts you don't use. When
deactivated they don't show up in inkscape nor in any software that has a

This way, would a day come where you actualy want that funky fantasy font

 Forwarded Message
Subject: Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) released
Date: Thu, 13 Oct 2016 15:14:49 +
From: Adam Conrad
To: ubuntu-announce@
CC: ubuntu-release@

Codenamed "Yakkety Yak", Ubuntu 16.10 continues Ubuntu's proud tradition
of integrating the latest and greatest open source technologies into a
high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution. The team has been hard at
work through this cycle, introducing new features and fixing bugs.

Under the hood, there have been updates to many core packages, including
a new 4.8-based kernel, a switch to gcc-6, and much more.

Ubuntu Desktop has seen incremental improvements, with newer versions of
GTK and Qt, updates to major packages like Firefox and LibreOffice, and
stability improvements to Unity.

Ubuntu Server 16.10 includes the Newton release of OpenStack, alongside
deployment and management tools that save devops teams time when
deploying distributed applications - whether on private clouds, public
clouds, x86, ARM, or POWER servers, z System mainframes, or on developer
laptops. Several key server technologies, from MAAS to juju, have been
updated to new upstream versions with a variety of new features.

The newest Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME, Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu MATE,
Ubuntu Studio, and Xubuntu are also being released today. More details
can be found for these at their individual release notes:

   https://wiki.ubuntu.com/YakketyYak/ReleaseNotes#Official_flavours

Maintenance updates will be provided for 9 months for all flavours
releasing with 16.10.

It certainly looks very interesting! :) The best way to make sure it
happens is to help package it. We try to get things packaged in debian
first so that it automagicaly appears in Ubuntu and for the community at
large to enjoy. I'm not the best at searching debian packages and i
couldn't find it... that is, maybe its there but i missed it... However, if
you are interested in helping us out, you can have a look here:
http://ubuntustudio.org/contribute
You could also reach out to photoflow's developer-team and ask them if they
have plans to package it in debian. In any case i will take deeper look at
it and put it on the wishlist for 17.04 release. In the meantime, while i
understand this isn't what you are looking for, i can recomend darktable
and rawtherapy as non-destructive RAW photo processing applications.

Thank you for reaching out!

which links to this:

Might be of interest, although maybe a bit saddening for you.

If you can afford keeping your machine off-line, or perhaps dual-boot,
you could consider not upgrading a partition with an older version of
the system, as stated on the wiki page:

Although, note that i'm just guessing here, since i don't know if an
older version of the system will support your particular hardware...

It has got much more options, hence setting it up can be a little more

Hi Paul,

we need a little more info to help you:
by 'jack' do you mean QjackCtl? Once QjackCtl is opened, does jack start
once you've done your settings and pressed the button that says "start"?

Remember you have to go into 'Setup' in QjackCtl to chose the firewire
option _before_ starting jack by pressing the 'start' button.

I also have a firewire card, and i hav had some problem due to ALSA's
firewire. So if it still doesn't work after trying the above steps, get
back here and i'll share you my work around :)

Create! :) That is the best way to realize what package you are missing.
And if you miss any package, please let us know which ones, maybe we
will all agree that it should be included by default. Such an addition
will not happen in 16.10 since the feature-freeze was last Thursday, but
if the suggestion is feasible and pertinent, it will happen for 17.04 :)

The idea with ubuntu studio is that after installing it, you shouldn't
need to do anything else than get creative and/or work on your
multimedia projects. I usually install sound-converter and download the
latest blender when it comes out. But that is about it.
Nvidia-drivers... but that would be meaningless if you have no Nvidia
graphics card.

I can't really find any information about it, but since the system
requirements state your system needs "least 5GB of disk space." i would
reckon it is slightly over that. It also says "The USB sticks are only
available in 64 bit version, if you require 32 bit you will need to
download a distribution or make your own bootable USB stick." Which i
presume means that it should be writable.

But hey, better ask them directly: don't take /my/ word for it, as i am
just guessing :)

hablar con algún centro autónomo en tu región. Puede ser que te lo
puedes bajar en tu biblioteca municipal también. Habla con un amigo que

Si el único problema que tengas es que va lento, usa los enlaces

I agree with this, but i think any computer with any OS will require you
to pay with your time, and any OS come with a fairly steep learning
curve. It depends on your personal interest _in_ and previous experience
_with_ computers really. But the basics are very similar from OS to OS.
Hence i find this recurrent argument of GNU/linux being more time
consuming then other OS to be slightly unfair. Because computing is not
easy. Any brand saying it is easy, is probably hiding many possibilities
from their users or just assuming things about their users actual
interest in completing tasks.

A few cents from a personal point of view....

The version in the ubuntu repo runs very well on my machine. But indeed:
the group buttons are greyed out. I cannot find any context where they
are activated. Altho, It doesn’t seem like a bug, more like a feature,
but the documentation of tupi isn't very furbished yet. No where is it
explained how to use them. It's a very interesting piece of animation

I thought gksu was the same as gksudo... none of them seem to be

way i would identify as gksudo does, minus the greyed-out background...
but after checking it seems i have pkexec installed. so i'm guessing the

Hi and welcome!

While i perfectly understand why my answer isn't the solution you are

equipped with Ardour, i would like to underline how easy Ardour comes to
a cubase/nuendo user :) Of course, it takes a bit of fiddling around and

Hi,

Sorry, need to remember slang is not very handy in these types of
context... :facepalmingmyself:

By going bananas i mean going overload. It doesn't push a full 100% over
longer periods of time, but the task manager shows firefox eating
between 95% and 100% of resources. also the sound starts flickering.

I use the java script to control audio objects on my homepage a pretty
simple pause/play button, with an eventlistener loading new url when
sound ends.

This happened to me as i was developing it using jekyll's build in http
server, and hence while i was refreshing a lot and frequently.

I can reproduce it on many other pages with audio tags. Not only my own.
Everytime i refresh such a page, a new playback item for firefox is
displayed in the pulseaudio Volume Control, while the old ones remain
althought the VU meter is inactive on the older ones. If i quit firefox
these items disappear, but closing the concerned tab will not help.

Hope this clears it up. If you have any idea of what else i can test,
let me know :)

Thanks again!

[ubuntu-studio-users] HTML5 and pulseaudio in firefox

2014-11-06 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi all,

I don't know if i should post this in support for firefox, pulseaudio,
or ubuntu, so i tell you guys because. you rock! :)

I've noticed a strange behaviour with html5 and audio-tag in
pulse-audio. Only when using firefox, every time a page is loaded with
an audio tag, a new firefox audio output is created. It's not really a
problem untill you refresh a lot because then the CPU goes bananas. It
could be my javascript code that is weird, i understand that, but it
doesn't happen with chromium and when the audio tag comes with no
javascript function (as in standard audio-control) it happens too.

Hope you don't mind me telling this here, and if so, please direct me to
the proper support forum.

Yours,
Set

[ubuntu-studio-users] Upgrade successfull

2014-05-05 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi all!

Yesterday i upgraded from 13.10 to 14.04
Everything went smooth and all my production tools seem to be working
well. I like the new indicator plug-in, with the entire lit of useful
menus. Even thou the configuration of it gives me the feeling it is a
panel within the panel? Fine, but messing with its setting made it
crash: if i rearranged them in a different order, restarting xfce-panel
(as suggested within the editor menu of the indicator plug-in) gave me
an empty indicator plug-in. Erase and restore the plug-in solved it, and
i can live with the icons being in a new order, so fair enough :)

I have experienced a bit of flackyness on my wifi today, but it might be
my router (my phone). So before i go into that i will test on some other
wifi network.

All in all, i want to thank the Devs for their precious time and energy!
Each and every time I’ve had to go thru this process, you've made me
both happy and impressed! THANK YOU!

Hi again,

I'm a little bit embarrassed about this issue. I think it is a perfect
situation of user-error. Also, I can clearly see a function for that
cache, especially in situations/places where the bandwidth of internet
isn't too great.

After a reboot, the redeclipse data was gone. I know I rebooted several
times due to my graphic card issue, but i am too far from being skilled
enough to point out any other error than my own understanding of the
system.

So i feel i need to apologize to anyone who took time and energy to
reflect over this case: Beer/juice is on me if we ever get together.

I hope i didn't burn any bridges or stepped on anyone's nerves.

Sincerely grateful for your assistance,

[ubuntu-studio-users] apt-get: Data wont be removed on purge and autoremove

2013-12-20 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi!
Recently i had an issue with my graphics card. I fixed it, but then i
started investigating what caused my problem. And i remembered i had
installed a game, an fps called redeclipse. I have a rather abusive
teenage past with quake, so i quickly removed it to save myself :)

This game seem to be using my Nvidia, so i thought i'd resintall it,
just to see if i could repeat the error. and the terminal tells me this:

$ sudo apt-get install redeclipse
[sudo] password for set:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libenet2a libmikmod2 libsdl-mixer1.2 redeclipse-data
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libenet2a libmikmod2 libsdl-mixer1.2 redeclipse redeclipse-data
0 upgraded, 5 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
> *Need to get 0 B/656 MB of archives.* < ?
After this operation, 772 MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?

So i go yes, of course nothing is downloaded so it's really alot faster
than initial install.

I check my drivers, all good. The game is not the problem.

I remove it again, first with purge, and then autoremove to get rid of
those 700+ mb

I get this on on purge:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  redeclipse*
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
After this operation, 4 625 kB disk space will be freed.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? Y

And then autoremove:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  libenet2a libmikmod2 libsdl-mixer1.2 redeclipse-data
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 4 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
---> *After this operation, 767 MB disk space will be freed.* <-- ?
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? Y

but i get suspicious so i check installation again:

The following extra packages will be installed:
  libenet2a libmikmod2 libsdl-mixer1.2 redeclipse-data
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libenet2a libmikmod2 libsdl-mixer1.2 redeclipse redeclipse-data
0 upgraded, 5 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0 B/656 MB of archives.
---> *After this operation, 772 MB of additional disk space will be
used.* <

SO my question is: how do i get rid of this data?

Thankfull for an answer,

[ubuntu-studio-users] Nvidia Drivers and x.org x server

2013-12-19 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi!

I noticed that my Nvidia driver was using an "alternative driver", namely:
X.Org. X Server - Nouveau display driver from xserver-xorg-video-nouveau.

I was a bit confused, in blender i can pick the GPU, and its clearly
alot faster when i do so. How ever, i changed it to use NVIDIA binary
xorg driver, kernel module and VPAU library from nvidia.319
(proprietary, tested) Things acted strange so i reboot and all was good.

But blender started to act a bit ghost, rendering things that aren't
there and picking colors on it's own. And so today i reverted to
Nouveau, reboot. I get to the login prompt, and once in, i see a texture
image used in the ghostly blender project. And everything is frozen.

ctrl+alt+f1 is working and loging in with a guest account works fine.

So i tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver in the terminal with apt-get
remove: fine. Login again: frozen but this time, random noize picture.

I Login as guest: all fine but for some reason the NVidia driver is
still present in the "additional drivers" tab of the software updates
preferences. And of course in that account i can't change any settings.

But this is telling me that there is a user specific setting that is
haunting.

I remember that i first installed the nvidia driver manually with one of
the latest versions, which required me to comment out some lines so that
nouveau would let nvidia be in charge. (i did this before i upgraded
from 13.04->13.10) Something is telling me that is my problem. I don't
think I undid those changes before installing the tested Nvidia driver
with synaptic.

I just can't remember which file i was messing with when i installed it
manually. Even less what config files i should remove or edit from my
own account to at least get a picture, as in the guest account.

So if anyone of you could give me a better hint than gogole and duckduck
it would be greatly appreciated.

Greatfull for any help,

Again, thanks Ralf.

For anyone interested:

I put my computer at stress using shotwell (accidentally) some week ago.
Resizing the display window when showing RAW fotos is _VERY_ CPU craving
(very as in veryveryverymuch) Then i could clearly hear the pump going.
So i guess my bios is taking care of it.

Hmm... i haven’t. But i can see why your suggestion could be a good
idea, given the normal kernels are less specific kernels than the
lowlatency (?)

Frankly typing, my question comes out of pure curiosity: its been
rendering a blender animation 24/7 for about 2 weeks now, and there's no
overheating to notice. But will it go so smooth when summer comes back? :)

[ubuntu-studio-users] Cooling systems

2013-12-09 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi!

I have a bit of a noob issue. I have this powerfull machine at home for
3d graphics. It was sold with liquid cooling. Enough bragging and
straight to the n00bness: the cooling system can be tuned in my BIOS,
but is it running at all once ubuntustudio is up?

Pretty much all i can think of is telling me "no". Because there is no
driver or software for the cooling installed But could it be
depending on the motherboard settings strictly? Or just running at the
same rate constantly?

What do you guys reckon?

I have tried to ask several searchbots, but none seems to fetch me a
linux related answer so...

Thankfull for hints and tips,

Right, so sorry about not so ubuntustudio relevant messages.

I figured out later than soon, because not long ago Luigi Verona (on
[LAU]) released a techno/trance album filled with TB/TR sounds produced
only with free software.

There are some very good clones today.

Some more expensive than others. But hey, it's a much safer investment
in terms of longevity, than a piece of software and a controller with
their dependency of: a system, drivers, and the right physical connectivity.

Rebirth is cool. Is it impossible to mount ISO's as discs on windows?
Thats how i used to bypass the CD-rom back when i used it.

If you like abelton and rebirth, you should give renoise a chance to
free you from those compromises ;) It's really powerfull and very cool!

The demo version on linux do not allow one to bounce out the master

I used to be looking for that place you search. But at some point it
struck me, that the terminal is best GUI in the world. I cannot exactly
tell you when, how or why, but i will try from the context of this thread:

The thread is asking about an operation that has to be done in _batch_

It is this type of operation, powerful, repetitive, operations that a
terminal is perfect for. Maybe not to make music.

Yet, some people do manage to make excellent delicious music in a
terminal. This is something i found with blind users among others. Blind
users are the perfect community for anyone who is looking for ways to
motivate "his/her desire to learn how and when to use command lines".
Another good way, is to hang around in the threads, here, on LAU and
your favourite other ones, like you do today, and keep an open eye for
solutions to your problems. :)

Have a good day!

[ubuntu-studio-users] An Offert to the State

2013-11-07 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi All,

In September i decided to find out the total amount of money that the
state of Sweden spends on Microsoft and apple licenses/products each year.

This took quite some time, but i got an estimate answer from the
department in charge: between 450-500 _million_ Swedish crowns _each
year_ (69'291'450.00 US Dollar). This sum is _only_ regarding Microsoft
licenses.

I've also been told that there is a regular meeting where investors and
computer related whatnots are invited to present solutions and offers.
(I’m still expecting the exact date of this).

So i was wondering:

- Should we organize the presence of Ubuntustudio at that meeting? Or
should this be brought to the attention of Ubuntu as a whole (if not
already aware)?
- Would/Could this be a bad thing for Ubuntustudio?
- And if it's a good thing: who is in? :)
- Has there been any previous attempts that we could learn from?

Obviously, since this is in Sweden, it would be good if some swedes
responded, but hey! Europe is a union now isn't it? And Ubuntu is
worldwide, unlike some U.S. devi.. hrm.. devels ;)

Now, let me be straight: i'm aware GNU/Linux exists since way before i
stopped playing NES, that i don't know even half of what has been
attempted until today and also that i have no intention to become some
wannabe messiah or nextlevel Stallman (i'm just a happy post-n00b
computing in freedom). I know big money can be devastating for projects
like ubuntustudio, and i am ready to eat any negative criticism like a
good boy. My interest in this investigation is the betterment of my
community, which by definition cannot be achieved by a single person.

Yours optimystically,

Re: [ubuntu-studio-users] Ubuntu Studio 13.10 Release Candidate Call for Testing

2013-10-14 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi!

Still super pleased! One thing i noticed is that the old volume shortcut
in the header was empty. Removing it and adding the new one solved it.
Hopefully this wont be a source of confusion for other users? I am
guessing that pulse has been removed completly, rendering the old
icon/shortcut obsolete.

The new sound menu (icon?) is just a volume fader, and i couldn't seem
to find audio settings. I saw the LADI settings, in the new and
deliciously consolidated settings menu, but pressing it while jack is
stopped told me "jack can only be configured with a loaded and stopped
studio. Please create a new studio or load and stop an existing one"

If i start Jack i get a bubble saying "JACK server is started not by
ladish daemon and there is no loaded studio so a new studio has been
created and marked as started."

If i then press LADI Control Center in the Settings menu, it says "Jack
can only be configured with a stopped studio. Please stop your studio
first."

I was very confused until i remembered the gladish program. Which seems
to be where i can control the mounted studio. Once gladish is started,
with a stopped studio, than i can open the LADI Control Center.

I hope this feedback is not comming in inappropriatley or in the wrong
space!

Yours,
Set

Like a Remote Blender Render Farm? :) I can see Renderfarms. Renting out
processorkraft remotely. With free software, it would be a fair deal.
Since it would be given you may set up your own render farm if so
desired. :) Or just being able to let your home-server do the heavy job
while you edit on a smaler device in timbuktu?

But at the same time this reflection pushes me back to the blur of the
cloud. Renderfarms and remote filestorage already exist...?

hmm...

Guess i am thankfull for the information, need to read up on this. :D

Shotwell integration

2013-05-01 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi,

I noticed a strange behaviour with shotwell. I make heavy usage of the
right-click "send to.." function. Now shotwells is asking me for
Nautilus. "Unable to launch Nautilus Send-To: Failed to execute child
process "nautilus-sendto" (No such file or directory"

Also, when i do right-click "show in filemanager" Audacious is being
launched?

Is this something i should talk with shotwell about? Or is it in the
implementation of shotwell in ubustu?

Thankfull for a way to fix this and wishing you all a happy May the 1st,

Set H.

Re: Party like it's 13.04

2013-05-01 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi Pete!

yayks!? nautilus messed up data?!? i hope my backup is ok or did i
get all that backwards?

To put a bookmark, i just dragged the original to the side-pane.
I find it delicious because it does all i want and has remedied
everything that made it obsolete for my use. (funny because i'm trying
to remember what... hmmm..? some subtleties... ) And also i like
that there is only one file-manager now...

This expressed opinion of mine is of course very subjective. I was
mainly keen about showing mad love to the amazing people behind
ubuntustudio. :) I'm not trying to say thunar the best option in the
world. if it was, it would have a "make the world a happier place"
button :D (good thing i'm not a human)

You can drag/drop files from one tab to another, but if you need to
compare 2 folders i guess a second window is the deal. Have you thought
about dropping a suggestion to the thunar guys?

Have a delicious awake time all!

Warm regards from cold sweden,
Set

Party like it's 13.04

2013-04-30 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi all!!

I thought i'd give a little feedback regarding the upgrade from 12.04 to
13.04.

It can basically be reduced to 3 words:
I LOVE YOU!

To this I would like to add:
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Without your hardwork, my work would have no outlet!

Ubuntustudio 13.04 is beautiful and seems to work like a charm on my
compaq Presario CQ57 intel core i3 with 4 GB ram

I started off by booting from a USB, worked perfect.
Then i installed from scratch, because i can live with doing the
settings again and for curiosity, to have a good reason to explore what
available settings and things i need to do etc...

Some things i've noticed:
Positive:
- My display issues have been totaly adressed: no more strange tripple
colour on light text.
- Thunar has become deliciously good. I was kindof fearing i would miss
nautlius, but i don't.
- Blender 2.66!! YUHUU!!!
- All the goodness and more!

Less positive:
- firefox homepage is the ubuntu firefox start page. I get it in
turkish(?) I don't mind, its easily fixed.
- I miss the little messaging thingy in the top panel. I found some sort
of mail alerter, but i can't get it to aggregate my xmpp client (pidgin)
and thunderbird. Instead it wants me to set it up as if it was my mail
client (it could go under positive things too, because with a little
after thinking, i like the idea of not being distracted while i work hehe..)

Thats it for now!

Have a delicious awake-time!!!!

yours with mad love,
Set Hallstrom

Re: new to Ubuntu Studio

2013-01-28 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi!
Good choice! And welcome to the list! :)
It is populated by far more experienced users than me, but here are my
few cents:

No "skipping" problem on my 64bit Ubustu 12.04 I run it on an i3, the
intel graphics and 4Gb ram. So far my audio production is working like a
delicious dream. I chose to stick with the LTS mainly because i'm lazy,
and i own only one station. (even if the live-version of 12.10 seemed to
work fine: at least i didn't notice any skipping... could probably have
tried harder)

XFCE looks good and works very well, i haven't tried to change the
interface because i haven't found any reason to invest the energy. But
let us know how it goes if you do!

Hope you will find what your are looking for!

Have a good week all!

2013-01-20 Thread Set Hallstrom

I have the same problem. Tried several different mountig apps. In the
best case, i got it mounted, but the image contained the ISO file... :/
(on 12.10 xubuntu i had no problem mounting the same file, nor to play
it in VLC)

Thankfull for an answer,

Tumbler crash work(?)arround

2012-11-12 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi all,

I thought i'd share this little "discovery" of mine. I think i'm not
alone with having tumbler crashing at startup.

2 days ago, i cleaned my desktop ( (0_0) not even xmas WUUT ?!) and
ever since, no more crashing

I have no way to confirm this is the issue, i just thought i'd share
my clue for some more people to test..

Have a great awake time!

Re: mySQL client update

2012-11-06 Thread Set Hallstrom
Thank you for your prompt answer. :)

In synaptic, i found these and removed them:

libmysqlclient18
libqt4-sql-mysql
mysql-common
libt4-sql-mysql:i386
libmysqlclient18:i386

My knowledge is poor, but i do have a little bit of experience in
mysql thru apache and my webserver. I really don't understand where
they come from. especialy the i386 ones, since i'm runnig a 64 bit
system...

Na well... all gone.

I must confess i've become specialy alert to this type of activity,
since my UbuStu 12.04 started to sporadically ask me for admin
password without any apparent reason, in a pop up window. However, i'm
more of an upload person and defo no warez dude so, it should be fine.

mySQL client update

2012-11-06 Thread Set Hallstrom
Hi,

Today i got a software update for mysql-client. To my (quite
poor)knowledge, i have nothing related to mysql on my machine, except a
folder /etc/mysql/ where i find a my.cnf file stating there should be a
user named mysql (id: mysql: No such user).

This update was not necessary on my VPS machine?

So i wonder, what is this "client"? What do i need a mysql-client on
this music/grafix making machine for?

Thankfull for some light,

Re: Kernel update dependency issue

2012-11-06 Thread Set Hallstrom
Forgive me if I'm off-side by interacting on this. No bad feeling involved.

I am far from Ralf's level, but I think i understand him in this case. I
do use a bootloader that grub wrote for me. Having this said,
uninstalling grub rendered boot-up about 20 times faster. I realised
this as i got fed up of constantly getting software updates from grub.
The difference in startup speed is quite remarquable.

Now, perhaps i am missing something? Is there any good reason to keep
grub once the bootloader is written? I used grub in the first place
because my bootlaoder was corrupt after installing from the live DVDiso
on a usb stick.

Have a good awaketime all!

Its like you red my mind!!

I had to wonder too. So i looked at the picture on another computer here
at wirk and seeing the same error i came to the same conclusion, but
since my knowledge is very limited, it dosen't get me much further.

Please keep me posted if you figure any clue out :)

As you can see on the screenshot, only very thin fonts get very bad (but
hey... its Ubuntu Light...)

Re: Text Display Issue

2012-10-16 Thread Set Hallstrom
Thanks ALOT for your input!

I don't have that much resolutions options to chose from. And as you
mention this, i noticed i can chose between 2 very odd values
1366x768 or 1360x768

I first tought it would make a big difference, (as you can see on this
screenshot it is clearly not properly aligned to the screen raster
http://sakrecoer.com/pixelerror.png )

But no... no noticeable change...

I'll try to fibble with gama and the xrandr command which seems to allow
me to use custom sizes. However, i must confess that i fear this hole
issue is, in my case, due to the hardware configuration i run. I'll keep
you posted if i make any progress :)

Thanks a zillion again for your time,

Re: Text Display Issue

2012-10-16 Thread Set Hallstrom
I have the same issue. I managed to reduce it by tweaking the settings
Ralph kindly suggested, but since I never got it quite perfect: i
learned to live with it...

But 95 dpi seemed to make it alot better (so used to either 72 or 96
that i didn't even try before today! cheers Ralph!)

I'd be interested in knowing any other tricks.

Re: Ubuntu Studio precise pangolin 12.04.1 RCs on ISO tracker

Hi,

I'm willing to help. Problem is my bandwidth is quite poor. Is there a
torrent link available? If it's just for me, don't bother setting it
up, i'm sure i can squat someone's connection early enough to bring
you feedback. I'm just wondering as it would make things considerably
more easy for me.

Thanks!

Re: Linux Tools for Serious Photographers

2012-08-06 Thread Set Hallstrom
I guess the difference depends on what lens you buy, iiuc the lens
mounting thing is standard, so the request the commenteer you quote is
doing wouldn't really be relevant. Amateurs could just opt for a cheaper
lens. http://youtu.be/mvI7rJ_AZys

I'm not sure i understand your question about the "special software". I
never really got interested in doing video, so my knowledge is little in
that field. The little i know is that it can record in several video
formats, with pretty insane resolutions and frame rates, which (i think
at least some) are editable in various videosequencers. But what makes
the particular software that apertus team is offering special imho is
that it is very powerfull open source libre software (and i believe
google used some of elphels cameras for google street view.) Hence the
reason i thought there could be interest for their project on this list.

Set

broken URL

2012-07-31 Thread Set Hallstrom

Dear All,

http://www.ubuntustudio.org/
gives "Error establishing a database connection"
whilst http://ubuntustudio.org/ is all right.

Alot of people (inlcuding me from time to time), spontaneoulsy share web
adresses including the (by now pretty much usless )"www"

Perhaps something to reconsider?

Sincerley yours,
Set Hallstrom
