[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 363375] Re: [multi screen] mouse position sometimes wrong
I can crash X reliably - probably because of this bug. Jaunty Dual screens. mga driver note (It might not be a nvidia problem... hp 2035 monitors xinerama 650 Mhz CPU (old thing) G550 AGP video card. Open terminal window on primary screen. tail -f /var/log/Xorg.0.log Open another terminal window in the other screen, hold down the shift key with a wedge of paper and you will probably see errors in the other terminal windows. Leave it like that and after a while the mouse pointer might be constrained to one window. This can be released as described by ALT-dragging a screen around for a while. Grab the window and madly drag it between screens until X crashes. Sometimes it takes 5 min to make it crash. -- [multi screen] mouse position sometimes wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363375 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 311895] Re: [i945] spontaneous black screen (major pipe-A underrun)
For the record, this still happens with the latest -intel/UXA/KMS versions. However, it does _not_ happen any more on my system since I plugged in a second GB of RAM. Now it has two RAM pipelines available which apparently makes memory operations fast enough to avoid the underruns. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 346028] Re: [ATI driver specific] Ubuntu Jaunty hangs after usplash with fglrx 8.600 or 8.6002
Hi, I've upgrade to Jaunty my HP EliteBook 8530p with an ATI HD3650 and there is no way to use the fglrx driver provided by Catalyst 9.4 **AND** 9.5. I've already fired the following bugs to ATI: http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1550 http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1568 now with the 9.5 I can grab the kernel message and I can safely reboot the machine. See the dmesg attached for the kernel messages. I've tryed with the following kernel: 2.6.28-11 and -12 from Jaunty 2.6.27-11 from Hardy same result. Since with 8.10 the flgrx worked like a charm and was very stable (with Kernel 2.6.27-11), I suppose that the main problem is the incompatibility with Xorg 1.6. It should be nice to have a backport of Xorg 1.5.x to Jaunty :-) I've already tryed to install a recompiled Xorg 1.5 from http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/3942 but it did not worked. Now I'm using the radeonhd driver (version 1.2.5 from PPA and latest DRM from git) but it is missing 3D acceleration. The support from ATI is not so responsive. ** Bug watch added: ATi Linux Platform Bugs #1550 http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1550 ** Bug watch added: ATi Linux Platform Bugs #1568 http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1568 ** Attachment added: Kernel dmesg http://launchpadlibrarian.net/27452795/dmesg -- [ATI driver specific] Ubuntu Jaunty hangs after usplash with fglrx 8.600 or 8.6002 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/346028 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383181] [NEW] Fujitsu T4215 Stylus not working in 9.04/9.10
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-wacom I previously installed Kubuntu 9.04 64-bit on a Fujitsu T4215 Tablet PC. This has a wacom serial tablet built in. I expected (or perhaps hoped) that the stylus pen/eraser would work out of the box. No such luck however. After a while, I noticed that the eraser end of the pen is recognised, and acts as a stylus, as well as the eraser button working to transmit clicks. However, the pen end is still non-functional, as are the two buttons near the pen tip. I made some posts here, and Favux has been very helpful in trying to help me through the issue, but the recommended I file something through launchpad http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1136848highlight=victorhooi I've also now updated to Kubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala), with the same behaviour (eraser end working only). Also, it also seems to sometimes work and sometimes not, although I can't pin this down/reproduce it accurately, so I'm not going to say too much on this. I've attached the latest output from xinput --list, lshal and my xorg.0.log file. The command xsetwacom list returns nothing. ** Affects: wacom-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Fujitsu T4215 Stylus not working in 9.04/9.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/383181 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to wacom-tools in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Can it be backported to 2.6.29 or even 2.6.28 (Jaunty kernel)? How about the actual fixes for X? Can they be backported? -- [i965] X freezes starting on April 3rd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/359392 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. Status in X.org xf86-video-intel: Confirmed Status in compiz source package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel source package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in compiz in Ubuntu Jaunty: Fix Committed Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu Jaunty: Confirmed Status in compiz in Ubuntu Karmic: In Progress Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu Karmic: Fix Released Bug description: [Problem] Starting around 4/3, when mesa was upgraded from 7.3 to 7.4, several i965 users started noticing X freeze after several hours of use, triggered by application usage especially noticeable with (but not unique to) compiz enabled. [Impact] The freeze bug affects a subset of i965 based systems, most particularly those using compiz. Exact numbers cannot be determined, but may be as high as 25-50% based on rough estimates. The problem is severe: An unpredictable lockup of the system that requires a power cycle to recover from. For some users it comes on within minutes, while for others it comes after a few hours of use. [How Addressed in Development Version] For now, the patch being proposed for Jaunty has been uploaded to Karmic. Longer term, we plan to move from EXA to UXA once the latter is stable enough. It has been found that while UXA exhibits other kinds of freezes, we've not yet been able to reproduce this particular freeze there. [Patch for Jaunty] A low-risk workaround that has proven effective at eliminating freezes, or at least greatly reducing their frequency, is to increase the Virtual framebuffer size. Some users do this locally as a matter of course to gain dual-head support, so this setting has received extremely widespread testing already. The patch for Jaunty causes the Virtual size to be set to 2048x2048 if it is not otherwise specified. Users can still override this with their own settings, larger or smaller, as desired. A side effect of this patch is that it also mitigates bug 158415 to a degree, which will make projector usage somewhat easier for this hardware because it will enable X to recognize higher resolutions available from the external monitor than were available on initial boot. [Test Case] The best method found to reproduce the bug is: a. Enable compiz b. Set your desktop to a 6x1 workspace layout c. Run http://launchpadlibrarian.net/25683477/repro.sh d. System will freeze anywhere from 1-20 min typically e. Power-button shutdown is required to reset the system [Regression Potential] In general, Virtual has been widely and extensively tested, so we do not expect this patch to trigger regressions. The patch is coded to only take effect on i965 systems, so the scope of any regression that might conceivably be triggered will be limited to just that hardware. [Suspects] Omitting obviously trivial, unrelated changes, here are what changed in several suspect packages in the timeframe in question: * intel driver: 4/01: 118_drop_legacy3d.patch: Removed Legacy3D 4/03: 114_fix_xv_with_non_gem.patch: Dropped since it caused regression 4/06: 119_drm_bo_unreference_needs_null.patch: Fixes various nullptr derefs 4/08: 120_fix_vt_switch.patch: Fix nullptr deref in video playback * xserver: 4/08: 177_animated_cursor_change_master.patch: fixes animated cursors 4/06: 174_set_bg_pixmap_of_cow_to_none.patch: Sets bg pixmap of composite overlay window to None 3/30: 172_cwgetbackingpicture_nullptr_check.patch: fix race condition when minimzing/maximizing firefox with flash video playing. * mesa: 4/03: 7.4 released * Added MESA_GLX_FORCE_DIRECT env var for Xlib/software driver * GLSL version 1.20 is returnd by the GL_SHADING_LANGUAGE_VERSION query * glGetActiveUniform() returned wrong size for some array types * Fixed some error checking in glUniform() * Fixed a potential glTexImage('proxy target') segfault * Fixed bad reference counting for 1D/2D texture arrays * Fixed VBO + glPush/PopClientAttrib() bug #19835 * Assorted i965 driver bug fixes * Fixed a Windows compilation failure in s_triangle.c * Fixed a GLSL array indexing bug * Fixes for building on Haiku * linux: 4/04: 2.6.28-11.41: Revert MCHBAR patch 4/02: 2.6.28-11.40: Add MCHBAR patch * libdrm: 4/04: 02_libdrm_nouveau_update.patch: Only affects nouveau code 3/29: libdrm-nouveau1.symbols: Probably

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 380564] [NEW] Screen goes black on resize
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: totem While an MP4 video is playing in Totem Player, it incorrectly guesses the aspect ratio and the right side of the video is cut off, and when I try to resize the window by dragging the right side to widen it, the screen goes black, and the Num Lock light also goes off. The computer is then useless until it has been restarted. I am using Jaunty Jackalope, the most recent version of Totem Player at the time of submitting, and I am also using a Wacom Tablet (I mention this only becuase I know that for a while in Jaunty, using a Tablet caused the display server to crash on startup, so it could be linked). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383252] [NEW] Bad pixels other artifacts on fonts
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Fonts in a number of programs are broken, though still readable. I'm using the default Ubuntu jaunty install, nothing fancy. http://i39.tinypic.com/1jlydc.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/jz9ox5.jpg Programs where this commonly occurs are the desktop, gnome-terminal, pidgin, and firefox. Xchat seems to be immune, for reasons I don't understand. In some places it's noticeably worse than others. Occasionally there are large black lines running through the fonts. Rebooting does not make the problem disappear. ** Summary changed: - [karmic] Please upgrade nvidia-glx-185 to 185.18.08 version + [karmic] Please upgrade nvidia-glx-185 to 185.18.14 version ** Description changed: ChangeLog : - * Fixed stability problems with some GeForce 6200/7200/7300 GPUs on multi-core/SMP systems. - * Improved recovery from certain types of errors. - * Fixed a problem that caused DisplayPort monitors to never light up or lose sync intermittently on some Quadro GPUs. - * Fixed a bug that caused some performance levels to be disabled on certain GeForce 9 series notebooks. - * Fixed a problem that could result in temporary stalls when moving OpenGL application windows on GeForce 8 and later GPUs. - * Fixed a bug that could interfere with the detection of display devices attached to secondary GPUs when first starting X after cold boots. - * Fixed a bug that prevented VGA fonts from being saved/restored correctly on GeForce 8 and later GPUs. - * Loaded the NVIDIA kernel module earlier in the X driver's initialization path to facilitate more graceful fallbacks if the kernel module cannot be loaded. Removed the LoadKernelModule X configuration option. - * Fixed a bug that caused kernel crashes when attempting to initialize NvAGP on Linux/x86-64 kernels built with the CONFIG_GART_IOMMU kernel option. + * Fixed a Xinerama drawable resource management problem that can cause GLXBadDrawable errors in certain cases, such as when Wine applications are run. + * Fixed XineramaQueryScreens to return 0 screens instead of 1 screen with the geometry of screen 0 when XineramaIsActive returns false. This conforms to the Xinerama manual page and fixes an interaction problem with Compiz when there is more than one X screen. + * Moved kernel module loading earlier in the X driver's initialization, to facilitate more graceful fallbacks if the kernel module cannot be loaded. Removed the LoadKernelModule X configuration option. + * Added support for new horizontal interlaced and checkerboard passive stereo modes. + * Fixed an OpenGL driver crash while running Bibble 5. + * Fixed a DisplayPort interaction problem with power management suspend/resume events. + * Fixed occasional X driver memory management performance problems when a composite manager is running. + * Fixed a bug with VT-switching or mode-switching while using Compiz; the bug could lead to a corrupted desktop (e.g., a white screen) or in the worst case an X server crash. + * Fixed a bug that could cause GPU errors in some cases while driving Quadro SDI products. + * Fixed a several second hang when VT-switching while OpenGL stereo applications were running on pre-G80 Quadro GPUs. + * Added support for multiple swap group members on G80 and later Quadro GPUs. + * Fixed the behavior of the NV_CTRL_FRAMELOCK_SYNC_DELAY NV-CONTROL attribute on Quadro G-Sync II. + * Fixed a problem with Quadro SDI where transitioning from clone mode to OpenGL mode would fail. + * Fixed VDPAU to eliminate some cases of corruption when decoding H.264 video containing field-coded reference frames on G84, G86, G92, G94, G96, or GT200 GPUs. Such streams are commonly found in DVB broadcasts. + * Slightly improved the performance of the VDPAU noise reduction algorithm. + * Enhanced VDPAU to validate whether overlay usage is supported by the current hardware configuration, and to automatically fall back to the blit-based presentation queue if required. + * Fixed error checking in VdpVideoMixerRender, to reject calls that specify more layers than the VdpMixer was created with. + * Modified VDPAU's VDPAU_DEBUG code to emit a complete backtrace on all platforms, not just on 32-bit Linux. + * Improved interaction between VDPAU and PowerMizer; appropriate performance levels should now be chosen for video playback of all standard resolutions on all supported GPUs. + * Fixed a bug in VDPAU that sometimes caused display preemption when the VdpDecoderCreate function failed. + * Fixed a potential segfault in the VDPAU trace library, triggered by a multi-threaded application creating a new VdpDevice in one thread, at the same time that another thread detected display preemption. + * Improved compatibility with recent Linux kernels. ** Tags removed: needs-lspci-vvnn needs-xorglog -- [karmic] Please upgrade nvidia-glx-185 to 185.18.14 version https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/376067 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-180 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 361649] Re: Screensaver 'lattice' causes immediate Xorg freeze/crash
I also had Xorg hang today with the flux screensaver, also from the rss-glx package. The X server (well, some remnant of it) also ended up hammering my CPU with 99.9% usage after I attempted to kill it, so any operations from my command-line SSH session went very slowly. I would like to simply disable the rss-glx screensavers, but the gnome- screensaver applet doesn't let me disable them individually (see LP# 31979: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-screensaver/+bug/31979). I am going to try to disable them via a gconf-editor workaround I added to that bug report, but I may end up removing the rss-glx package if gnome- screensaver still attempts to run these binaries. rss-glx is a dependency of the ubuntu-desktop pseudo-package, so I'd have to remove ubuntu-desktop as well. I'd rather not do that, since it can assist in upgrades by guiding the system to load appropriate packages when things split or get replaced by alternate programs. -- Screensaver 'lattice' causes immediate Xorg freeze/crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/361649 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat (Feisty, Gutsy)
Having not heard back from the original bug reporter Guy Gur-Ari, I'm going to close this bug as it's growing wildly out of control and hard to follow from a developers point of view. There are comments all over the place indicating this is fixed with Jaunty, while others mention it's a regression with Jaunty, or some say this is an issue on some hardware and not others . . . I really do feel it would be more productive and helpful to the developers to open a new bug report if you are still experiencing an issue. That way the new bug will have specific information to the issue you are experiencing. I do understand that many users are still be experiencing the symptoms reported here and I appreciate everyone's feedback but I think the best way to try to get it resolved it to have a clear concise bug for a developer to look at. It is also difficult to determine if this is a bug in xorg for some or the kernel for others so please use your best judgement about which package to file your new bug against. Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Won't Fix ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Jaunty) Status: Incomplete = Won't Fix -- Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat (Feisty, Gutsy) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/124406 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 383345] [NEW] dual screen not working: just a blank screen with a mouse pointer
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I have a dual screen setup: * Dell Latitude's D820 own screen (1680x1050) * a LG secondary monitor (1280x1024) To enable dual screen, I had to add SubSection Display Virtual 2960 1065 EndSubSection in Section Screen of /etc/X11/xorg.conf (this was added automatically by the Display applet). I just ran a dist-upgrade which brought a new kernel: Linux lethe 2.6.30-7-generic #8-Ubuntu SMP Mon May 25 13:53:42 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux and a new xserver-xorg-video-intel: gri...@lethe:~$ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-video-intel xserver-xorg-video-intel: 2:2.7.99.1+git20090602.ec2fde7c-0ubuntu1 I rebooted the system, and after the system started I was left with a blank background and a working mouse pointer (by working I mean I can move it around and between the screens). I Alt+Ctlr+F2'd and tried a few times to restart gdm but found the same result. I removed the Subsection I mentioned above from xorg.conf and restarted gdm again. This time the menu and task-bar have loaded, but the screens are mirrored. I proceeded to setting them as separate screens in the Display applet (from System-Preferences). I was notified that the Virtual line was going to be added to xorg.conf and that I should log out and in again, which I did. Unfortunately I had the same blank screen with functional mouse pointer. I mention that I do not have Desktop Effects enabled as they are not supported in combination with the Virtual line in xorg.conf for my card: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Wed Jun 3 23:21:33 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 MachineType: Dell Inc. We hope to get this fixed in the graphics driver soon. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 379157] Re: [i945G] Samsung TV not detected on VGA output (no screens)
I see you added the results upstream - great! Too bad it didn't work. I tried to build 2.4.1 on Jaunty and it didn't work straight away. I think we should be able to use the 2.4.1 driver from Reinahart Tartler, though (https://launchpad.net/~siretart/+archive/ppa). It includes the patch that is the potential problem, and I just have to figure out exactly what to remove to build a similar .deb without the patch. Then we would have a pair of nearly identical packages where hopefully one should work and the other shouldn't (given that the potentially problematic patch is the real problem). -- [i945G] Samsung TV not detected on VGA output (no screens) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379157 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 351532] Re: [Jaunty] X quits with code 0177 when moving windows or scrolling using tdfx video driver
Hello. I solved this issue performing a downgrade of the jaunty's drivers, I installed the intrepid's xserver-xorg packages. I changed the repositories of Jaunty by the repositories of Intrepid. Then I removed the xserver-xorg, xserver-xorg-core, xserver-xorg-video-tdfx and related packages with apt-get. After this, I did sudo apt-get clean and I installed again these packages from the intrepid and all worked ok. This is the tdfx package : aptitude show xserver-xorg-video-tdfx Paquete: xserver-xorg-video-tdfx Estado: instalado Instalado automáticamente: sí Versión: 1:1.4.0-1build2 Prioridad: opcional Sección: x11 Desarrollador: Ubuntu Core Developers ubuntu-devel-disc...@lists.ubuntu.com Tamaño sin comprimir: 164k Depende de: libc6 (= 2.1.3), xserver-xorg-core (= 2:1.4.99.906-2ubuntu2) Tiene conflictos con: xserver-xorg-driver-tdfx Reemplaza: xserver-xorg ( 6.8.2-35), xserver-xorg-driver-tdfx Proporciona: xserver-xorg-video-4 Descripción: X.Org X server -- tdfx display driver This package provides the driver for 3dfx Voodoo video cards and their derivatives. I also retained this packages for avoiding further updates when I returned to the repositories of Jaunty. Until now all worked ok and I have not found still any issue.
