[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 378617] Re: [G45] No DisplayPort support in -intel driver

2009-07-21 Thread Eduard Wulff
FWIW:
I installed a new 2.6.31 Kernel as described here:
https://launchpad.net/~morgwai/+archive/intel-displayport

The last thing I saw (after disabling splash etc.) before my monitor went black
was:
failure to load KMS module(s)

On a Lenovo X200 with a docking station.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gxine

This may be bug 378041

When I first try to play a video, no matter the player or video file,
all I see is a blue rectangle. Audio will work fine. I can actually
see the video after thumbnailing the file with nautilus. After that,
all video files on my computer will display fine with all players.

My computer is a Thinkpad X24 with a mobile ATI radeon mobility chip.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 343528] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in EvdevMBEmuBlockHandler()

2009-07-21 Thread Matt Zimmerman
I just saw this as well, on current Karmic. I was resuming from
suspend, and saw the text console instead of my session, then a new X

trace very similar to this one. I've never seen this crash before, and
now it has 4 reports in Karmic, so I'm marking it as a regression.

But before activating compiz, i had full-screen virtualbox on right display.
As you can see it's unharmed. I'm able to normally work in it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 402178] [NEW] gzopen64 implicitly converted to pointer

2009-07-21 Thread LaMont Jones
Public bug reported:

Function `gzopen64' implicitly converted to pointer at
../../src/common_device_name.c:62

Our automated build log filter[1] detected the problem(s) above that will
likely cause your package to segfault on 64-bit architectures (where the
size of a pointer is greater than the size of an integer.)

This is often due to a missing function prototype definition.
For more information, see [2].

Since use of implicitly converted pointers is always (eventually
and/or itermittantly) fatal to the application, they are errors.
Please correct them for your next upload.

Wow. How do you know? If you really do know, then you should be able

I'm not sure it's a bug in one of the players myself (yes, I think it's
OK to file against all of them for triaging, not least because this is
where others will find the ticket). But I'm not certain it's in the
driver, either. I just can't imagine how the thumbnailing would fix a
driver issue. I'm rather speculating it's an issue in a lib used by all
of the players.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 402206] [NEW] DetectableAutoRepeat is broken

2009-07-21 Thread Fabio Capela
Public bug reported:

XkbSetDetectableAutoRepeat doesn't have any effect; when autorepeating,
keys are still sending both KeyPress and KeyRelease messages, even
though with DetectableAutoRepeat set they should only keep sending
KeyPress events.

This bug affects at least windows programs running under Wine that need
to ignore autorepeat, such as World of Warcraft.

There are two open bugs under bugs.freedesktop.org
(http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22194 and
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22515) about
XkbSetDetectableAutoRepeat not working, both filled in june, one
reported under Ubuntu and the other for the GIT version, so the bug
might still be present upstream.

Soundplayback did continue for a while though, which seems to indicate

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 374141] Re: resizing window leaves garbage on screen

2009-07-21 Thread keepitsimpleengr
Well the artifacts have ceased to become a problem. Several things
have happened.

1) I patched glib2.0 to resolve the 2nd monitor operational problems.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+question/77380
2) I discovered the obscure and onerous setting that was crashing compiz.
https://answers.launchpad.net/compizconfig-settings-manager/+question/77591
3) I have enabled compiz and am using the emerald window decorator.

I think the bug might be with the GTK window decorator.

In any case, I'm happy.

commit 2a34f5e6b61c7e8f3b6f25847bcda88511b0ead4
Author: Eric Anholt e...@anholt.net
Date: Thu Jul 2 09:30:50 2009 -0700

drm/i915: Disable GEM when a broken video BIOS takes up the whole aperture.

This is seen on some G41 systems, where the BIOS will consume all but
a few KB of the aperture. This should be bad for all operating systems, as
it means that the OS can't dynamically manage memory between graphics and
the rest of the system, and OSes that did static memory management
statically add memory in addition to the BIOS allocation anyway. So,
instead
of working around it, just fail out verbosely.

2009-07-21 Thread Andreas Schildbach
More debugging on karmic:

/etc/acpi/events/asus-wireless

is the event that is responsible. I looked into

/etc/acpi/asus-wireless.sh

and found that somewhere in toggleAllWirelessStates() the video
configuration is destroyed. This method is imported from /usr/share
/acpi-support/state-funcs

Thus, I am assigning this bug to acpi-support.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 402706] [NEW] X crashes when I run tuxmath

2009-07-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am another newbie to Ubuntu, so any help would be appreciated. I've
have had Ubuntu 8.10 up and running since 3/6/09. Three days ago, out
of the blue, when attempting to open TuxMath, the screen briefly goes
black, closes all open applications, and then displays the login screen.
I have the system setup up to automatically log in at boot and just
enter the passwords for admin and network privledges. After the login
screen comes up, I leave it blank and hit enter, and it brings up the
normal desktop, as if it were a fresh boot. No applications are open
and my network connection get reestablished.

I upgraded to OpenOffice 3.0 about a week before this issue started, and
TuxMath was working fine. I have made no changes, other than
recommended updates, at the time the issue started. I have tried
removing TuxMath and reloading it several times and the issue is still
present.

My son loves this app since it's much more fun than his school's flash
cards. Any suggestions?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 335523] [NEW] OpenGL rendering and visual effects does not work well together

2009-07-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Release: Intrepid Ibex
Hardware: NEC Versa One Laptop with Intel graphics card.
Bug is about: visual effects

What happened: When visual effects are turned on, OpenGL drawn areas
overdraw the windows placed over them. Also when you drag a window with
an OpenGL drawn area it is still rendering to the previous place until
you release the window, it will leave image junk there. This does not
happen when visual effects are turned off.

Reproducible: always

Expected: windows should overlap the rendered area and ogl areas should
not be rendered when window is being dragged.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 335523] Re: OpenGL rendering and visual effects does not work well together

2009-07-21 Thread Adil Arif
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This is a well known issue between OpenGL and Compiz (the
visual effects). When Ubuntu 9.10 comes out it will contain Direct
Rendering Infrastructure 2 for the Intel graphics card which will solve
this issue. I don't believe it will be back ported to Intrepid Ibex.

@Bryce Harrington I am fairly sure that this bug is a duplicate to
another one there but I am unable to find it. If you are know where it
is please mark this bug as a duplicate.

[solved] I really do not know what happend

After I saw :
radeon: Unknown parameter `modeset'
I removed raden.modeset=0 from grub kernel cmdline and rebooted.

No, to my big surprise:
1. There is no kernel mode setting any more and the
2. ati radeon module loads and I do have direct opengl renderering and I can
3. enable Desktop Effects .

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 402777] [NEW] Monitor turns off on incorrect events

2009-07-21 Thread Julian Lam
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I'm not quite aware of which package this should be reported against, so
I am reporting it again xorg in the hopes that someone will come along
and re-assign it properly. Thanks!

Ever since upgrading to Karmic, I've been having sporadic problems with
my monitor turning off at inappropriate times.

Test case:
Switching to a tty session, and then switching back to tty7. Immediately after,
the monitor will blank. Moving the mouse will wake up the monitor again.

This is reproducible for me, every time.

I've also experienced it once or twice when I've accidentally let my
laptop power cord unplug. The switch from AC to battery power seems to
have triggered an event, and the monitor turned off.

The following events occur in my system log whenever the monitor turns off:
Jul 21 19:13:55 julian-4 acpid: client 3279[0:0] has disconnected
Jul 21 19:13:55 julian-4 acpid: client connected from 3279[0:0]

2009-07-21 Thread Marc Kaplan
While further attempts to patch this issue are undertaken, is there any
way, other than removing the card and accessing shell through the
onboard video to implement the test/install/make changes? I often get
tired of taking the card in and out to test updates and would wlecome a
workaround just to be able to access a command prompt without the kernel
panic, I'm using the machine as a server, but eventually want to use
the card so I can have a gui desktop interface.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 382864] Re: xrandr cycling is all messed up with KMS

2009-07-21 Thread Steve Langasek
Sorry for not following up sooner, took a bit before I was rebooted
without KMS, which I needed to do in order to show this is not
(entirely) a gnome-settings-daemon issue. Here's the output of xrandr
*without* KMS:

$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 2048 x 2048
VGA connected 1680x1050+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 473mm x
296mm
   1680x1050 60.0*+
   1280x1024 75.0 60.0
   1440x900 75.0 59.9
   1280x960 60.0
   1280x800 59.8
   1152x864 75.0
   1024x768 75.0 70.1 60.0
   832x62474.6
   800x60072.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
   640x48075.0 72.8 66.7 59.9
   720x40070.1
LVDS connected 1280x800+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 331mm x
207mm
   1280x800 60.0*+ 50.0
   1024x768 85.0 75.0 70.1 60.0
   832x62474.6
   800x60085.1 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
   640x48085.0 72.8 75.0 59.9
   720x40085.0
   640x40085.1
   640x35085.1
TMDS-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
$

Note the significantly increased number of available modes (4 extra
modes for the VGA, and 4 extra modes for the LVDS), significantly,
including the maximum LVDS resolution as one of the supported VGA
resolutions.

So perhaps that's a kernel bug rather than an X driver bug, but it's not
a gnome-settings-daemon bug.
