[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 285759] Re: [i945gme] OpenOffice.org 3.0 slow at redrawing UI elements

2009-08-02 Thread Kiran Jonnalagadda
Hello there. Sorry about the silence. I'm the original reporter. I've
been travelling without internet access for the past month, and no
longer have the netbook on which the original issue occurred. My other
machines are too fast to notice the lag.

I will reopen the ticket if this comes up again in future.

I can confirm it has happened today off 2.6.31-4-generic #23-Ubuntu
( linux-image-2.6.31-4-generic 2.6.31-4.23 )
which I believe is based off rc4.

One observation is that I actually saw the display go into this mirrored
mode during the hibernate process. When I hit the hibernate button I saw
a notification saying the networking was down, then the screen flashed and
after the flash it was in this hibernated view and then after the customary
disk IO it went to sleep.

The X server version this week is:
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.8.0-0ubuntu1
X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx display driver

(I rebooted after doing an update yesterday and then hibernated last
night).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 407954] [NEW] scrambled audio with xorg-edgers packages

2009-08-02 Thread Bernhard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I'm currently running the intel video drivers from the xorg-edgers ppa
and kernel 2.6.30 from there also. Sometime I start up Ubuntu and I have
(very) scrambled audio when the video driver is used (e.g. during mouse
scrolling, workspace switches). I have to do more testing, but I can
often just restart Ubuntu and the problem disappears. But it keeps
coming back, haven't found out what triggers it.

Let me know if you have any ideas about the trigger for scrambled audio
or if you want me to post any logs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 407959] [NEW] Probe for Intel 82852/82855 gfx card fails - introduced in Jaunty?

2009-08-02 Thread Dávur Eyðunsson
Public bug reported:

I've tested all versions of Ubuntu since Warty on my aging Acer
TravelMate 291 XC and never before Jaunty did I get this problem: The
Intel 82852/82855 gfx card is not recognized and xorg falls back to
'vesa'.

I can see that the gfx is working; the progress bar during boot shows
correct maximum resolution (1024x768). But entering the login screen and
from there on, we're in 800x600.

I've searched for fixes and found none that worked, so I edited conf manually,
adding 'intel' for Driver and
'
Screen
Identifier Default Screen
Device Configured Video Device
Monitor Configured Monitor
DefaultDepth 16
SubSection Display
Depth 16
Modes 640x480 800x600 1024x768
EndSubSection
EndSection
'
which worked; it's just not optimal.

xserver-xorg-video-intel is version 2:2.6.3-0ubuntu9.3

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 109934] Re: Black and white S-video output only on PAL TVs with intel video driver

2009-08-02 Thread Gustavo Narea
OK, I think I found the ultimate workaround. :)

If you hate running randr all the time, as much as I do, you can try
this:

1.- Make sure your 'Section Device' contains this:
Driver intel
2.- Add the following section:
Section Monitor
Identifier TV
Option TV Format PAL
EndSection

That's it. Every time you turn your computer on, you'll see everything
with color on your TV.

See the attachment for a sample xorg.conf file.

HTH.

Do you mean the x-updates PPA in xorg-edgers for Jaunty?

Just updating to 2.8.0 would not really be sufficient; really you'd want
the 2.6.30 kernel, and updated mesa, libdrm, and xserver. Backporting
all those pieces (and testing them to be sure they're safe) would be a
bit time consuming, and thus is lower down on my priority list, and I'm
doubtful I'll get to it. Also, the 2.8.0 stack really requires the
kernel changes, and we've tended to not want to update the kernel in
x-updates, to minimize regression risk. However if someone would like
to work on doing an -intel 2.8.0 port, it's something we could
definitely considerX.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 400515] [NEW] kdm starts well but it crashes when trying to restart

2009-08-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: kdm

I'm running a kubuntu jaunty amd64 in a thinkpad t61p with nvidia
drivers. When I boot the laptop everything goes ok but when I try to
restart the X, it crashes. I tried with /etc/init.d/kdm restart, in the
kdm menu and by ctrl+alt+backspace, and the result is that X crashes and
I have eventually to reboot the system.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408030] [NEW] Problem when resizing and the Panels

2009-08-02 Thread Amahdy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I have the standard shape of GNOME which is a panel in the top and one in the
bottom, when I resize a window it HOVER the panel causing the boundries of the
window to be behind the panels.
This is a problem specially if you resize the TOP of the window and it's
getting hided behind the top panel so you can't move or resize back the window.
This should be limiting the mouse motion to not get over those panels just like
when I drag window over the panels I get a boundries limit.
I can reproduce it with any window-based-re-sizable application like calculator.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 399238] Re: [i965] Intel GM965 poor graphics performance

2009-08-02 Thread Anders Østerholt
This bug is stating that the intel gaming performance on linux is much
poorer than it is on windows. That's a fact and does not need any log or
conf files to be provided. Although the title is a bit misleading as the
2d and video performance is quite snappy in the current 2.8 driver.

The current situation is identical for open source ati and nvidia
drivers which perform much worse than fglrx and and the closed source
nvidia driver. Nvidia and ati has mostly the same gaming performance in
linux and windows.

It is not really an Intel specific issue, but currently poor performance
of Mesa and/or ttm/gem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 407541] [NEW] Screen inexplicably goes black occasionally

2009-08-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm running 64-bit Karmic alpha 3 with all updates applied, on a MacBook
2nd generation. Intel GMA945 graphics architecture.

Karmic alpha 3 is an order of magnitude better with its support for this
chipset than Jaunty ever was. The new drivers are a huge step forward.
However, about once every couple of hours, my screen goes completely
black - as though it has turned off completely. After a second or two,
it comes back on spontaneously. My programs etc are unaffected. The
computer does not acknowledge in any way that the screen has turned off.

It is definitely not the screensaver. I cannot reproduce the problem by
performing any particular action. It happens while surfing the Internet
with Firefox, playing Half-Life under wine, using update manager, any
old time. It definitely does not happen when I'm booted into OS X or a
live CD, or under Jaunty, and I have spent enough time in each
environment that I would have seen it if it were to happen in those
environments.

I don't think my bug is a dupe because others have reported non-
recoverable situations. Mine is completely recoverable.

The problem may be linked to the motherboard. I realized that my chipset
was an nvidia one:

(rev a2)

So I tried a gforce graphic card and it works perfectly now!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 404528] [NEW] karmic alpha 3 flashing and echoing screen

2009-08-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi,

A very annoying bug in karmic alpha 3: the screen is flashing and echoing
itself in some 'screen circumstances'. For example:
- clicking on the Wireless icon in the right upper screen; as soon as the
WLAN-drop-down appears, the screen starts flashing echoing itself
- in a normal web screen, as soon as new info is feched, the screen is flashing
 echoing
- moving the mouse causes flashes echoes.
- sliding the slider in the window I'm typing this in and the Firefox slider,
causes flashes echoes.
- pressing ENTER in this window causes screen shivers

OS: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Alpha 3
HW: laptop with all Intel hardware (Intel GPU)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408065] Re: Artifacts with cairo dock 2.0 [openGL]

2009-08-02 Thread mac_v
Attaching a screenshot of the problem:

screenshot legend:
1: as soon as the dock starts , not fully transparent[ the icons dont appear
and the logo from the nearby panel is retained!]
2: on hover the dock background turns black
3: even on release of hover the dock has the black background , and at random
returns to state 1 , where the icons disappear and the logo from the nearby
panel is retained

The only solution is to not use the openGL version and to run caio-dock
as[non-openGL] :
$cairo-dock -c

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 404533] [NEW] Screen flickering on Karmic Alpha 3

2009-08-02 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Installed Karmic Alpha 3 on my Dell Inspiron 6400 with Intel 945GM graphics and
noticed screen flickering. Especially when i move my finger over touchpad. It
was so disturbing that I had to return back to Jaunty with the kernel 2.6.30.
Any suggestions how to fix the Karmic issue?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408077] [NEW] nvida Xorg binary drivers conflict with oss ati driver

2009-08-02 Thread David Pottage
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I think there is some sort of undocumented conflict between the ati
driver above, and the closed source nvidia drivers. My current version
is 1:6.12.1-0ubuntu2

My system previously had an nVidia 9600 graphics card in it when I
installed Ubuntu Januty. Today I replaced that card with an ATI x1650
graphics card. I expected it all to 'just work' (I have a laptop with
ATI x1600 and the accelarated 3D graphics work very nicely).

Instead I did not get any working 3D at all. glxinfo reported that 3D
was not supported. Even explicity adding Driver ati to the xorg.conf
file did not make it work.

I logged in via ssh as root and stopped gdm, then ran startx so that I could
see the messages go by. This is what I got.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 371296] Re: [R420] system freezes when starting openoffice writer

2009-08-02 Thread Wilbert Volkers
Thanks for the info! Now i was trying to get TV-out working with my ATI

i might try to get to work in an optimistic mood. So i decided to get me
an old Gforce 6200 (NVIDIA) for a few bucks. That fixes most problems.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408077] Re: nvida Xorg binary drivers conflict with oss ati driver

2009-08-02 Thread David Pottage
I know that the nvidia GL libaries conflict with the system ones.

My point is, that the power of the debian packaging system should sort
that out for me automatically by having an explicit conflict set so that
when I install the ATI driver the nvida one is automatically purged.
That is how conficts are supposed to work in debian packaging.

What I don't want to do is spend an hour investigating when it could be
done automatically, and I don't want the next person who swaps out an
nvida card for an ATI one to go through the same pain either.

Yeah, I think it's the same as your bug, Dave. I don't confirm that

at all, and that works just as well as pressing any key. The screen

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408016] Re: Xorg crashes when handed bad xrender glyph data

2009-08-02 Thread Tel
Have tested this against two different Nvidia graphics cards on ununtu
(running the non-free Nvidia drivers) and Nvidia drivers seem to be
completely immune to the crash.

The crash did occur on a different machine also running intel driver and
using Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset so this is looking like something
that depends on the particular graphics driver in use.
Suggestion that someone with the same intel chipset should be the first to
debug this problem.
