Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I'm currently running the intel video drivers from the xorg-edgers ppa and kernel 2.6.30 from there also. Sometime I start up Ubuntu and I have (very) scrambled audio when the video driver is used (e.g. during mouse scrolling, workspace switches). OK, I think I found the ultimate workaround. :) If you hate running randr all the time, as much as I do, you can try this: 1.- Make sure your 'Section Device' contains this: Driver intel 2.- Add the following section: Section Monitor Identifier TV Option TV Format PAL EndSection That's it. Every time you turn your computer on, you'll see everything with color on your TV. See the attachment for a sample xorg.conf file. Just updating to 2.8.0 would not really be sufficient; really you'd want the 2.6.30 kernel, and updated mesa, libdrm, and xserver. Backporting all those pieces (and testing them to be sure they're safe) would be a bit time consuming, and thus is lower down on my priority list, and I'm doubtful I'll get to it. Also, the 2.8.0 stack really requires the kernel changes, and we've tended to not want to update the kernel in x-updates, to minimize regression risk. However if someone would like to work on doing an -intel 2.8.0 port, it's something we could definitely considerX. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408030] [NEW] Problem when resizing and the Panels
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have the standard shape of GNOME which is a panel in the top and one in the bottom, when I resize a window it HOVER the panel causing the boundries of the window to be behind the panels. This is a problem specially if you resize the TOP of the window and it's getting hided behind the top panel so you can't move or resize back the window. This should be limiting the mouse motion to not get over those panels just like when I drag window over the panels I get a boundries limit. I can reproduce it with any window-based-re-sizable application like calculator. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 399238] Re: [i965] Intel GM965 poor graphics performance
This bug is stating that the intel gaming performance on linux is much poorer than it is on windows. That's a fact and does not need any log or conf files to be provided. Although the title is a bit misleading as the 2d and video performance is quite snappy in the current 2.8 driver. The current situation is identical for open source ati and nvidia drivers which perform much worse than fglrx and and the closed source nvidia driver. Nvidia and ati has mostly the same gaming performance in linux and windows. It is not really an Intel specific issue, but currently poor performance of Mesa and/or ttm/gem. -- [i965] Intel GM965 poor graphics performance https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/399238 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 407541] [NEW] Screen inexplicably goes black occasionally
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm running 64-bit Karmic alpha 3 with all updates applied, on a MacBook 2nd generation. Intel GMA945 graphics architecture. Karmic alpha 3 is an order of magnitude better with its support for this chipset than Jaunty ever was. The new drivers are a huge step forward. However, about once every couple of hours, my screen goes completely black - as though it has turned off completely. After a second or two, it comes back on spontaneously. My programs etc are unaffected. The computer does not acknowledge in any way that the screen has turned off. It is definitely not the screensaver. I cannot reproduce the problem by performing any particular action. It happens while surfing the Internet with Firefox, playing Half-Life under wine, using update manager, any old time. It definitely does not happen when I'm booted into OS X or a live CD, or under Jaunty, and I have spent enough time in each environment that I would have seen it if it were to happen in those environments. I don't think my bug is a dupe because others have reported non- recoverable situations. Mine is completely recoverable. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Screen inexplicably goes black occasionally https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/407541 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408077] [NEW] nvida Xorg binary drivers conflict with oss ati driver
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati I think there is some sort of undocumented conflict between the ati driver above, and the closed source nvidia drivers. My current version is 1:6.12.1-0ubuntu2 My system previously had an nVidia 9600 graphics card in it when I installed Ubuntu Januty. Today I replaced that card with an ATI x1650 graphics card. I expected it all to 'just work' (I have a laptop with ATI x1600 and the accelarated 3D graphics work very nicely). Instead I did not get any working 3D at all. glxinfo reported that 3D was not supported. Even explicity adding Driver ati to the xorg.conf file did not make it work. I logged in via ssh as root and stopped gdm, then ran startx so that I could see the messages go by. This is what I got. r...@miranda:~# /etc/init.d/gdm stop * Stopping GNOME Display Manager... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408077] Re: nvida Xorg binary drivers conflict with oss ati driver
I know that the nvidia GL libaries conflict with the system ones. My point is, that the power of the debian packaging system should sort that out for me automatically by having an explicit conflict set so that when I install the ATI driver the nvida one is automatically purged. That is how conficts are supposed to work in debian packaging. What I don't want to do is spend an hour investigating when it could be done automatically, and I don't want the next person who swaps out an nvida card for an ATI one to go through the same pain either. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = New -- nvida Xorg binary drivers conflict with oss ati driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408077 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
