[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 486253] [NEW] evdev driver (still) kills arrow keys
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev Once there was a known bug on xorg-input-evdev causing the keybord arrow keys to be mapped to wrong keysims, for instance top arrow to print screen, bottom arrow to multi key, ecc. This is documented in http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg_input_hotplugging#Using_the_evdev_driver_kills_my_arrow_keys.2C_printscreen_is_triggered_instead In principle, that bug should have been fixed with xorg-input-evdev 2.1.0, hence ubuntu karmic should be free from it. This lasts for a couple of minutes, then it stops flickering. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461863] Re: Karmic regresion: Huge fonts with KMS
Added bug to xorg-server since it's fixed there upstreams: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=19f7c15e2008dab3c46ba3e14dfa353d01c74f72 According to a comment in the upstream bugreport it requires a newer version of xorg-server to work. The work around patch to xf86-video-intel in https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24482 fixes the issue in the version of xf86-video-intel in Karmic (at least for me). Ok, after hours i solved it by my own: Connected my other Keyboard (logitech wireless): Logitech Multimediakeys worked, Cherry got stuck. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 458545] Re: Cairo/Gdk shapes not visible on Intel gpu since Karmic
This also affects the graphs on the overview window of Hamster-applet - see bug #451916 I tried some testing with the xorg-edgers packages to isolate this. The fix is in the xserver-xorg-video-intel package, upgrading it alone and leaving the rest of the Xorg stack with the default Karmic version fixes the problem. The fix is present in the oldest version still available in the PPA (2:2.9.0+git20091026.10946118-0ubuntu0tormod), and if someone can tell me where to get older packages, I can find an exact version if that would be helpful. I do know that it was likely fixed in the PPA sometime in October. Grepping through the apt logs from my old jaunty install shows that 2:2.9.0~git20091010.8b2d2ff0 was installed at some point, but I can't 100% confirm it was broken on that version. Hopefully someone on the Ubuntu-X team can find and backport a fix to this issue. You can probably get things working on your system by making sure the drivers are installed properly. e.g. install the fglrx packages and then reboot, to make sure the fglrx kernel module is loaded. The .deb packages have a problem on amd64 (http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1695), although it doesn't affect 32-bit systems like yours. ** Bug watch added: ATi Linux Platform Bugs #1695 http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1695 -- Catalyst Control Centre Crashes when started. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469239 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 486486] [NEW] OpenGL broken for amd64 (packaging problem)
Public bug reported: There seems to be a packaging bug in Catalyst that bites Ubuntu 9.10. I previously added comments to bug 464525, but ATI's Felix Kuehling thinks that's actually a separate bug. I also reported this to ATI already: http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1695, where Felix got me to try the --install method of installing the drivers, which worked. (Thanks.) So I'm filing this new bug; I hope the tags I selected are ok. On an AMD64 Karmic system, fglrx installs and works fine (2D desktop, and Xv), but OpenGL doesn't work: pe...@tesla:~$ fglrxinfo -v Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual! Visual ID: 23 depth=24 class=TrueColor bufferSize=4096 level=0 renderType=ci doubleBuffer=0 stereo=1258649631 rgba: redSize=684153483 greenSize=0 blueSize=1258649631 alphaSize=0 auxBuffers=0 depthSize=694153503 stencilSize=0 accum: redSize=1258649631 greenSize=0 blueSize=694153503 alphaSize=0 multiSample=0 multiSampleBuffers=0 Opaque. ...(same garbage values in all the other visuals) 32bit processes have no problem, e.g. nexuiz-linux-686-glx runs just fine. But any 64bit process won't find any usable Visuals, and fail. Installing Catalyst 9.11 with sudo ati-driver- installer-9-11-x86.x86_64.run --install produces a fully working setup. 64bit processes work just as well as 32bit. The packages built by ati- driver-installer-9-11-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/karmic have the amd64 problem, the same as Catalyst 9.10, and the fglrx-installer 2:8.660-0ubuntu4 packages shipped in Ubuntu 9.10. So, Ubuntu's currently-shipping fglrx is broken on AMD64, except for running i386 programs (including wine, BTW). Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477972] Re: [i855] Karmic / i855GM / Fujistu Siemens Amilo M7400 : Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855
I have a theory as for why acpi=off works, but not nomodeset or DRI off. As far as I remember, the xorg.conf option DRI off is ignored when KMS is used (cf. comment # 6, DRI is responsible for KMS, so it does not make sense to turn it off). So what acpi=off does is probably to disable DRI, and therefore also disable KMS. If this theory is right, using the kernel option nomodeset AND having Option DRI off in xorg.conf will stop the freezes. Could you check if this is the case? To understand better what is happening with acpi=off, it would be nice to have /var/log/Xorg.0.log for both the case acpi=off (without xorg.conf) and the case nomodeset with Option DRI off in xorg.conf. i don't try because ignoreby drivers version 2.8 : Option AccelMethod xxx - Try XAA, EXA (ignored on -intel 2.8.0) Option Accel Off - turns off the 2D acceleration (ignored on -intel except for i810 and i815 chipsets) Yes, I added those comments recently so that people with intel wouldn't try those options to no avail. I guess I should also add that the DRI option is ignored when KMS is used once we have verified that. -- [i855] Karmic / i855GM / Fujistu Siemens Amilo M7400 : Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477972 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477972] Re: [i855] Karmic / i855GM / Fujistu Siemens Amilo M7400 : Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855
Actually, I'm not quite sure when the DRI option is taken into account and when it's not. On my computer (965GM) it is not ignored, Xorg.0.log says (**) intel(0): Option DRI off but glxinfo says direct rendering: Yes and yet my OpenGL screensaver (Busy Spheres) is down to about 1 fps as opposed to something reasonable without the option, so something must have been turned off. The comment # 6 I referred to in the previous comment was in bug 447892 and not this one. In that case the DRI option is clearly ignored. Maybe it depends on the chipset. It would therefore be nice to have your Xorg.0.log with KMS (i.e. no kernel option) and Option DRI off in xorg.conf in addition to the ones mentioned in the previous comment.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 401214] Re: [i965GM] Xorg starts to black screen with some corruption when using driver VESA (KMS bug)
Still there on the released Karmic. I also tried Lucid LiveUSB image in case something in 2.6.32-rcX would have fixed this, but it is still the same. I don't get crashs anymore. With LiveUSB the gdm startup sound plays, and I'm able to blindly change VT, log in, and reboot with `sudo reboot`. The VTs look different from VT7 which has the X-session. They have just a little bar in the upper left corner. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 480747] Re: Failsafe X doesn't always overwrite /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe
Actually, I gave some thought to this, and decided that since xorg.conf.failsafe is so obscure of a file, if someone did overwrite it, it would likely have been for a good reason, and that overwriting it would perhaps be rude. For instance, this file assumes the vesa driver will work on their hardware, but that is not true in all situations. Perhaps they edit it to change to fbdev or something else. Shouldn't we respect whatever they specify? ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Triaged -- Failsafe X doesn't always overwrite /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/480747 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 480744] Re: Failsafe X stuff shouldn't be stored in /etc/gdm
The files are stored under /etc for historical reasons + laziness. Really, by Karmic these no longer even have anything to do with gdm, so there's little reason they should remain where they are. However, since they are in /etc/, if we move them we also need rules to safely remove the files from /etc during upgrades. At this point given a few of the other failsafe-x bugs, it might make sense to break these scripts out into a standalone package, rewrite it in python, and provide both ncurses and gui frontends. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Triaged -- Failsafe X stuff shouldn't be stored in /etc/gdm https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/480744 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 348497] Re: Pulling Xorg virtualbox support by default
I talked with Dustin about this at UDS. KVM is the preferred standard default for virtualization. virtualbox is currently a universe component, and it would need to be included in main before we could consider including support for it for X by default. Further, giving the large number of vbox X bug reports we've seen, I would want to see a vbox person identified to handle all these bug reports as I unfortunately wouldn't have time to give them adequate attention myself. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Won't Fix -- Pulling Xorg virtualbox support by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/348497 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
