[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574854] Re: lucid xorg regression - thinkpad x40 (855GM) freeze at xorg startup
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 541511 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 The ppa:glasen/intel-driver and ppa:glasen/855gm-fix 855gm-fix-exp-dkms packages downloaded 2010-07-04 work for my X40 so far: booting does not hard-freeze with a black screen, compiz effects work, xv movie-playing works, suspend works. thank you. I've made no other changes for the problem, though I have been running without 'quiet' and 'splash' in grub for years because I find all that pretty boot wallpaper garbage stupid and dangerous. Suspend while playing a movie did not work. :) also I've only been testing for about 1 hour. -- lucid xorg regression - thinkpad x40 (855GM) freeze at xorg startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574854 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 599626] Re: [arrandale] X freezes after plugging in external monitor and selecting SystemPreferencesMonitors
Geir, the first time I attempted to run the commands you mentioned the computer froze and the ssh session froze so I couldn't do it. The second time the computer froze, but the ssh session remained open. I did the same thing both times and I was connected via ethernet both times. I'm not sure what, if anything, was different. I will try removing the splash option as you suggested and try again. Is there any point trying older kernels, as the problem does not exist using the LiveCD, so presumably we could try to narrow it down by trying either older kernels or older X drivers, right? -- [arrandale] X freezes after plugging in external monitor and selecting SystemPreferencesMonitors https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/599626 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 581378] Re: display turns on and off and on and off...
I switched to the nouveau driver. After that I had resolution problems (only 800x600 instead of 1280x1024). I found out that the kvm swich cannot handle edid (ddc). So I substituted the kvm switch from Belkin Switch2 USB (Model # F1DG102U-USB) to Digitus DC-11403. In the end the issue of this bug was gone. I think the major problem is the new autoconfiguration way of lucid in association with the edid-blocking of the kvm switch. Perhaps anyone can post a hint to the lucid release notes to point out the new behavior and problems with some kvm switches. -- display turns on and off and on and off... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/581378 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-71 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574854] Re: lucid xorg regression - thinkpad x40 (855GM) freeze at xorg startup
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 541511 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 that's the reason why I am back to 9.04. everything, (including movies with dvdcss script), works well on 9.04. there are minor and major bugs in 10.4 as well as bunch of extraneous software no one really needs whoever started with 10.4 would choose another flavor of Linux. personally i like 9.04. it works like a champ On Sun, Jul 4, 2010 at 9:25 AM, carton m8r-dno...@mailinator.com wrote: *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 541511 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 The ppa:glasen/intel-driver and ppa:glasen/855gm-fix 855gm-fix-exp-dkms packages downloaded 2010-07-04 work for my X40 so far: booting does not hard-freeze with a black screen, compiz effects work, xv movie-playing works, suspend works. thank you. I've made no other changes for the problem, though I have been running without 'quiet' and 'splash' in grub for years because I find all that pretty boot wallpaper garbage stupid and dangerous. Suspend while playing a movie did not work. :) also I've only been testing for about 1 hour. -- lucid xorg regression - thinkpad x40 (855GM) freeze at xorg startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/574854 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of a duplicate bug (via bug 541511). Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: xorg I upgraded this thinkpad x40 from a working version of kubuntu karmic with latest updates and even Kde recommanded PPA. When booting into lucid, splash screen works and when xorg is initializing, the screen becomes black then the machine immediatly freezes. I suspect a freeze because even kernel magic keys do nothing. I have to power off/on the machine to reboot. If I boot the latest karmic kernel 2.6.31-20-generic, the machine boots perfectly and the lucid xorg is usable without problem. So I don't know if the problem is related to xorg or the kernel. I see no crash report in /var/crash. The rescue lucid recue mode boots OK. If I use the option to fix xorg there I only see a rapid screen mode change then I am put back to the rescue menu with no freeze. The freeze problem is reproducable at will. I could also reproduce this freeze when booting from a Kubuntu Lucid Live USB. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 587066] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 crashes after a few hours(after the initial login)
New update. I have changed from an ATI Radeon 9250 AGP(Asus) to a Nvidia(Club 3D) 6200 AGP 256MB. I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 AMD64 on this same PC. I also installed all the updates. I'm using at the moment the Nvidia binary drivers from the repos, installed through Jockey(nvidia-current). System is still crashing after a few hours. I've tested/installed Trisquel GNU/Linux 3.5 AMD64 on this same PC with the ATI 9250 and the Nvidia 6200, didn't install binary drivers, didn't configure 3D support. Left the PC on for a couple of days. System didn't crash with any of the graphic card. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 592086] Re: Problems related to not being able to use Nvidia 9400 in Macbook Pro
It seems in 2.6.34 kernel there have been some developments regarding the dual GPU support: From: http://kernelnewbies.org/LinuxChange...c33b89f2128173 1.10. GPU switching Some laptops have two GPUs, a low-power and inefficient GPU and a high-power and powerful GPU. Users should be able to switch to one or another at runtime. In this version, Linux adds support for this feature. You need to restart X, though. Is this true? It is working with dual nVidia GPUs? Any hope of a backport to Lucid? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 601632] [NEW] Xorg/Radeon driver freezed after an hour of playing flash videos
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati Motherboard is with Amd 690G int. graphics, (x1250) and Xubuntu 10.04 LTS 64-bit. I was playing flash you tube videos inside Firefox (about 20 of them one by one) and suddenly, mouse started to move slowly, Hard disc started to work and I after few seconds, lost control over desktop. (even when I was turning numlock on and off, it was slowly. I could not log into console since it was spitting radeon driver errors I could only (slowly) log in with ssh to it, to see with top that Xorg is using 100% cpu, after that, i kulled firefox with pkill and still it was Xorg locked. (Ctrl+Alt+F7 could not switch back to X). Then I killed gsm with sudo and Xorg process but again, could not log in to console anymore, but console stopped spitting radeon errors. So I halt it and reboot it and post this bug. Bryce Harrington is refering to that. Since no discussions had taken place on the new issues (new means of reproducing) he's assuming them to be resolved by now. If not resolved he's advising to report them in a new bug report. However the issues in this bug report are the same in #365943. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 83142] Re: crash on XSetIMValues() call when using xim and esperanto locale
I just installed Ubuntu-10.04 (from scratch) and I see that this bug is still present. Two files /usr/share/X11/locale/{locale,compose}.dir contain eo_XX which should be replaced with eo since both Debian and Ubuntu now use Esperanto locale eo.utf-8 (they were using eo_XX.utf-8 several releases ago, not sure when change was made). However, this change to Esperanto locale was not made in /usr/share/X11/locale/{locale,compose}.dir I attach the simple patch for Ubuntu-10.04 to correct it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 502055] Re: [i845] [i82845G/GL Brookdale-G] Screen freeze after while of working
I hit this issue running 9.10 on a Dell 2400 with integrated Intel graphics chip 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]. Intermittently, probably once a day at least, the screen would freeze, with no pointer or keyboard response. ssh to the box did work. Restarting X or gdm did not work. Usually the problem was precipitated by use of firefox. I tried several of the workarounds listed in wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes with no joy. FWIW, the following appears to have successfully worked around the problem, as I have not experienced it for the past two weeks (Jul 4 2010). I pasted this, and only this, in /etc/X11/xorg.conf: Section ServerFlags Option AllowEmptyInput false EndSection This was done based on a thread found here: http://www.linux-solved.com/post/solved-Xorg-freezes-with-Intel- Corporation-82845G-GL-50231.html -- [i845] [i82845G/GL Brookdale-G] Screen freeze after while of working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/502055 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

same here, with final release, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS I think it is not a problem caused by dkms, as no dkms directory has been created in /var/lib/dkms It is probably something else. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 599626] Re: [arrandale] X freezes after plugging in external monitor and selecting SystemPreferencesMonitors
I repeated test 3 with boot options changed to remove quiet and splash and add drm.debug=0x02. The result was that kernel messages ran across the laptop screen at some low resolution until reaching the error ureadahead main process (381) failed with status 5 then the screen went blank. The system didn't continue on any further. I didn't see the message about plymouthd. I repeated test 1 with the same boot options as above. The result was that kernel messages ran across the laptop screen at some low resolution until reaching the error ureadahead main process (381) failed with status 5, then the screen switched to a higher resolution and a few more kernel messages ran across the screen. Then X started. After I plugged in the screen and ran xrandr -q the screen went blank and the ssh session stopped working shortly after. There wasn't enough time to get any debugging info. It seems that the splash option makes no difference.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 601767] [NEW] Maverick; latest nvidia-current causes video tearing in agp cards
Public bug reported: The upgrade in nvidia-current to 256.35-0ubuntu1 has introduced video tearing with hardware that has always performed fine thru the 195.36.24 drivers ( both in maverick and in lucid. While the hardware is approaching becoming obsolete, I'm sure many still use agp and maverick could remain an option. Card here is G70 [GeForce 7800 GS] As a test, with a fully updated install (07/04), reverted back to nvidia-current 195.36.24-0ubuntu2 and playback returned to being perfect. Obviously I (or others) can't keep this nvidia package for long in Maverick so am requesting that Maverick at release offer an alternate nvidia driver(s) if possible and if so have it or 1 choice be the 195.XX driver. While clearly the 256 driver offers improvements, most of them are only realized on newer pci-e hardware, for agp there's nothing gained and most certainly something to lose. Note that the 7000 series is not too fond of the 173 drivers, so that's not an option ( not that they are usable atm anyway ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: nvidia-current 195.36.24-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-6.9-generic 2.6.35-rc3 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-6-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.agp.card: Fast Writes:Supported SBA:Supported AGP Rates: 8x 4x Registers: 0xff000e1b:0x1f004302 .proc.driver.nvidia.agp.host.bridge: Host Bridge:PCI device 8086:2578 Fast Writes:Supported SBA:Supported AGP Rates: 8x 4x Registers: 0x1f004a1b:0x0b02 .proc.driver.nvidia.agp.status: Status: Enabled Driver: AGPGART AGP Rate: 8x Fast Writes:Disabled SBA:Enabled .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86 Kernel Module 195.36.24 Thu Apr 22 09:18:20 PDT 2010 GCC version: gcc version 4.4.4 (Ubuntu 4.4.4-6ubuntu1) Architecture: i386 Date: Sun Jul 4 23:36:11 2010 DkmsStatus: nvidia-current, 195.36.24, 2.6.35-6-generic, i686: installed InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Alpha i386 (20100624) MachineType: alienware alienware ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-6-generic root=UUID=c041ff99-1825-4e9b-9c44-22e30de4618b ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: nvidia-graphics-drivers dmi.bios.date: 01/29/2004 dmi.bios.vendor: Intel Corp. dmi.bios.version: BZ87510A.86A.0091.P21.0401291113 dmi.board.name: D875PBZ dmi.board.vendor: Intel Corporation dmi.board.version: AAC26680-205 dmi.chassis.type: 2 dmi.chassis.vendor: alienware dmi.chassis.version: alienware dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnIntelCorp.:bvrBZ87510A.86A.0091.P21.0401291113:bd01/29/2004:svnalienware:pnalienware:pvr:rvnIntelCorporation:rnD875PBZ:rvrAAC26680-205:cvnalienware:ct2:cvralienware: dmi.product.name: alienware dmi.sys.vendor: alienware glxinfo: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory system: distro: Ubuntu codename: maverick architecture: i686 kernel: 2.6.35-6-generic ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 maverick -- Maverick; latest nvidia-current causes video tearing in agp cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/601767 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 597476] Re: nVidia C67 GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M uses an unusable resolution by default
Ok. So there are two problems in this bug - X starting in 1280x800 by default, and the 1024x768 resolution not being usable. X not starting in 1280x800 is due to a mis-detected TV output connection, resulting in X trying to find a shared mode for the TV output the laptop display, picking 1024x768. The mis-detected TV output should be fixed in Maverick, so we should concentrate on the broken 1024x768 mode. -- nVidia C67 GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M uses an unusable resolution by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/597476 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
