[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725600] Re: nvidia EDID issue, wrong resolution selected
The only hardware between the card and the monitor is the little dongle that converts DVI to VGA. These have always been connected to the card. I was previously running okay with nouveau, and yes, had both displays at 1680x1050. Yes, I switch on twinview in nvidia-settings. I have now booted with only one display connected. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Driver crash during recovery boot and in normal boot
How do I install the old versions? I tried installing 6.13.2+git20110124.fadee040-0ubuntu4 and ...ubuntu3 but I got dpkg dependency problems stating that they depend on xorg-video-abi-9.0. apt-get can't find that package. (It can find xorg-video-abi-9, but selects xserver-xorg-core instead, and that's at the newest version in natty.) I also tried the maverick version on that page (6.13.1-1ubuntu5) and again, dpkg has dependency issues, this time the required package is xorg-video-abi-8.0, and that this version of xserver-xorg- video-(ati|radeon) provides xserver-xorg-video-8 which xserver-xorg-core breaks. If this helps, I did not have these problems under maverick, and while I had minor problems in natty a few weeks ago, they got noticeably, drastically worse when the 6.14 drivers were released. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/727620 Title: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Driver crash during recovery boot and in normal boot ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726902] Re: Loss of vsync when using Metacity.
Interesting. A few random troubleshooting ideas. Try moving aside your .drirc. Run a video player with its --debug option and look through its output for any noteworthy error messages. I notice a fb tiling warning in your Xorg.0.log. Do a 'tail -f /var/log/Xorg.0.log' in a console window and then reproduce the issue and see if any messages get printed in the log. I assume by the title that you also tested with compiz running and found it did not happen in that case? If so, you could also try comparing dmesg, Xorg.0.log, etc. for the two cases and look for differences. (my guess would be vblank syncing is set differently.) ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/726902 Title: Loss of vsync when using Metacity. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726892] Re: screen split in half when in unity and I plug in a external monitor
Yeah, I've reproduced this myself. It seems to not be X but rather the compiz/unity autoconfiguration logic for multi-head. I think it's a known issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727382] Re: Unable to correctly display Image on 24" External Monitor
Can you reproduce this with "Classic Desktop" and "Classic Desktop (no effects)"? From your description it sounds similar to what I see when trying to use unity on multi-head systems, so I'm wondering if it's that. If it does reproduce with Classic Desktop and no compiz, and you still suspect -intel, then try seeing if downgrading to an earlier -intel makes it go away. .debs can be gotten from Launchpad here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- ati/+publishinghistory just click the version you want to test, and then click the architecture under build (amd64 in your case) and snag the .deb file. If you can narrow in on exactly what version the regression started at, that'd be a huge help. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/727382 Title: Unable to correctly display Image on 24" External Monitor ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725434] Re: nvidia-current causes a significant 'across the board' memory use increase
Hi Doug, Thanks for reproducing the issue on two computers. I could understand the X process consuming more memory but it's a bit weird that even client apps take more memory. Do you happen to know if this is a regression from the previous -nvidia (from the xserver 1.9 days)? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725600] Re: nvidia EDID issue, wrong resolution selected
Yeah looks like it's definitely unhappy about your monitors' EDIDs. You don't have any adapters or other hardware connected between the computer and the monitors do you? I take it you were running nouveau previously, and was able to correctly configure to 1680x1050 via gnome-display-properties? I assume you're using TwinView to do the dual head action, which presumably depends on EDID being available and accurate, so that's probably why it lets you change up to 1366x768. If you boot with only one of the viewsonics (and no TwinView), does the same issue occur? ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/725600 Title: nvidia EDID issue, wrong resolution selected ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hmm, I'm having trouble picturing what you're describing - any chance you could take a photo of the screens when they're displaying the problem and attach it here? To install it from the command line, use this command: sudo apt-get install radeontool After installing it, you run it like this: radeontool regmatch '*' > regdump_good.txt radeontool regmatch '*' > regdump_broke.txt Run it two times. Once when you have a working screen (for any driver), and once in the broken case (either from the tty console or logged into the sick box remotely). Attach both of those to this bug report, and we can then forward this issue upstream. Thanks ahead of time! ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/725580 Title: black screen on boot on radeon 9200 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726142] Re: Wacom tablet mouse does not work properly when monitor set to vertical resolution
Is the issue simply that the input movement didn't rotate with the screen? I.e. you push mouse up/down and instead it goes left/right. If that's the case, try using xinput to rotate the input too. Here's a reasonably easy to follow blog post on how to do this: https://caurea.org/2009/11/05/xinput-the-new-xsetwacom/ If that works, I think we may be able to quirk the software to do this automatically for your hardware. ** Changed in: xf86-input-wacom (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/726142 Title: Wacom tablet mouse does not work properly when monitor set to vertical resolution ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Driver crash during recovery boot and in normal boot
In my situation this is something I found in the logs. I analyzed the logs and compared it to a normal log and besides the similar stack dump I see one significant difference in the problematic log is this: [drm] radeon: 3584M of VRAM memory ready [drm] radeon: 512M of GTT memory ready. whereas in the normal log: [drm] radeon: 512M of VRAM memory ready [drm] radeon: 512M of GTT memory ready. The laptop has only 4GB RAM and ATI is supposed to have only 512MB. I have attached the relevant part of the log ** Attachment added: "logproblem.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/727620/+attachment/1881728/+files/logproblem.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/727620 Title: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Driver crash during recovery boot and in normal boot ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Driver crash during recovery boot and in normal boot
Hi afoglia, Does it resolve if you downgrade to an older version of -ati? You can get older .deb files of the driver from Launchpad here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- ati/+publishinghistory Click on the link under Version of the version you want to test, then under Builds click the link for your hardware architecture, then grab the -ati and -radeon .debs and install them. If that doesn't do it, then next guess would be you are having a kernel issue - if you still have a prior kernel you can try booting it (hold down the left shift key during boot to bring up the menu.) ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/727620 Title: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Driver crash during recovery boot and in normal boot ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728101] [NEW] Closing laptop lid causes screen to freeze
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel This is related to another but I filed, but I wanted debug information to be preserved. As I said in bug #726918, whenever I leave my laptop lid closed for a long enough period of time and power manager settings kick in, the screen locks up, preventing the cursor that I can still move from interacting with any screen elements (and the clock freezes, too.) Now, it appears even leaving the lid left down for a few minutes triggers this issue. Anyways, I hope the extra debug info helps. I have exactly the same problem with Ubuntu 10.10 and Firefox - all updates included. This is a Samsung Notebook with intel Centrino and i915 hardware. The problem appears with fullscreen Flash videos: Screen is not updated anymore, anything else seems to work (sound, Esc). The strange thing is that on a fresh install (Oktober 2010) the problem did not always appear. But recently this issue appears always. Maybe this is related to recent updates of Flash or intel-drivers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/718032 Title: Flash fullscreen mode can cause X to freeze the display ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 720303] Re: system flickrs from the begning
Hi Hussain, how has the 2.6.38-4 kernel been holding up? It sounds like this is a regression in the kernel drm code. If the issue is still occurring with the latest kernel, then avivotool can be used to assist in debugging this issue. avivotool is provided with the radeontool package, so to install it run: sudo apt-get install radeontool After installing it, you run it like this: avivotool regs all > regdump_good.txt avivotool regs all > regdump_broke.txt Run it two times. Once when you have a working screen (for any kernel), and once in the broken case (either from the tty console or logged into the sick box remotely). Attach both of those to this bug report, and we can then forward this issue upstream. Thanks ahead of time! ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/720303 Title: system flickrs from the begning ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 704279] Re: xorg warn about missing fonts 75dpi
It looks like the place this would need fixed is in the configure flags in debian/rules: confflags_main = \ --with-default-font-path="/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc,/usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic,/usr/share/fonts/X11/100\ dpi/:unscaled,/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled,/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1,/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi,/usr/sha\ re/fonts/X11/75dpi,/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType,built-ins" \ However, if I understand correctly, removing the 75dpi and 100dpi paths from this flag would result in the packages not working if someone chose to manually install them. So, despite the ugliness of the warnings I think we gotta keep these paths there until the fonts are removed from universe entirely. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/704279 Title: xorg warn about missing fonts 75dpi ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 716613] Re: Unneeded warning/error in Xorg.0.log about missing fglrx
Hrm.
