(In reply to comment #9) Thanks so much for your valuable contribution to this bug report. Guys, since I get X for free, I’m not expecting anything, and think it’s really nice of you to do this work. But I’m not talking about implementing some colorful clickables or display bling. I’m talking about one of the most basic features. So basic it has its own ISO standard. And also about 50 lines of code. Max. What I meant to say is, that if it were my code, and yes I am a professional programmer for 20 years now, I would be ashamed of overlooking something like this. It’s a thing of pride. Maybe because I see it as more fundamental than you. I would also love to submit a patch. If the thing weren’t written in that horrible horrible excuse of a programming language called C. I know lots of languages, including Haskell (my favorite and main languages), but I have no intention in torturing myself with C-like languages. Maybe if the thing was written in Haskell or OCaml, there would be more free time… Whatever. Maybe I’ll save 50€ and send them to you to implement it. 1€ a line should be enough, no? ;) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531208 Title: Need way to insert arbitrary unicode characters in Kubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/531208/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Daniel, Jeremy, please don't feed a possible troll. Just take his badly- worded comment as another ++ vote for the feature and be done with it. It would be a shame if this feature were ignored due to a single troll's heckling. In fact, let's look at it another way. I am willing to learn C and fix this issue if a current X dev will mentor me. I'm serious. Of course it would take _more_ time to fix the bug this way, but then X gains another enthusiastic developer. I've done a simple C course in university and I know a bit of PHP and Java. Are there any X devs who would mentor me through this bug? (In reply to comment #11) I look forward to your 50-line patch then. As I said, I have no intention in learning a language as bad as C. I’d rather rewrite the whole thing in a modern language. And I’d like even more to have someone else do it, while I do some other contribution in return. How about that? :) Well, either we are rubbish programmers with no pride, or are simply too busy with the other 2.532 million (I just checked) lines of code that X has. So you’re essentially suggesting that it’s just extremely bloated? ^^ But hey, there doesn’t have to be a “or”. Usually the latter comes from the former. ;) So what you're saying is that you're not going to help, but instead sit here banging on about pride and how Windows 2000 did it and it's really easy. Helpful! No, (Windows * still sucked). I was saying: Maybe I’ll save 50€ and send them to you to implement it. 1€ a line should be enough, no? ;) But I already see where this is going: Straw man arguments: First you deliberately misinterpret my statements, and then you call me an idiot because of them. Sorry mate, that won’t work. ^^ (In reply to comment #12) Hey Navid, have you learned C yet? Maybe the Navid in your delusional parallel world where I didn’t say I despised C did. Why don’t you check? In all honesty, I don't expect this to be 50 lines, and I don't expect it to be popular enough to demand attention over higher priority issues. Well, if it doesn’t take 50 lines, something is deeply wrong with the code. Then again it’s C and it’s 2.532 million lines of it, so that kinda answers that. ^^ PROTIP: Quick sort in Haskell: qsort (x:xs) = qsort [ i | i - xs, i x ] ++ [x] ++ qsort [ i | i - xs, i = x ] qsort [] = [] 50 lines? Hell yeah! ^^ I have no interest in the typical Internet dicks calling everyone who isn’t fitting their mind a “troll”. So you can fail with your archaic C, bloat, weird priorities and distorted perception until the end of time. Actually it’s a good thing, because the more you’re ignorant of the unfolding reality, the more those who don’t gain an edge over you. So, hey… in a way you’re still helping me. Thanks! And good bye. ^^ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531208 Title: Need way to insert arbitrary unicode characters in Kubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/531208/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Navid, please cease and desist from making unhelpful comments. I myself would like to see this bug fixed soon, and I also do not have enough C-knowledge to contribute a patch, and I do occasionally post hello can anybody please fix this bug kind of comments to bug reports, but at least I try to stay polite and *request* something of the developers who obviously have a particular skill which I don't. It is my experience that more often than not, developers are quite polite and at least explain why the bug can't be fixed soon or something like that. Now my polite request: can any of the kind developers fix this bug please? I'm sure with your skills it would be a simple job if someone just allocated a small amount of time to it? After upgrading my Kubuntu system to Oneiric, the ibus stopped working (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/854333) so I'm falling back to XIM which IMHO is much cleaner even if not context-sensitive. Dotan, I'd love to help you learn C. My advise to you is to check out this course at UC Berkeley designed to teach C to students who already know how to program in another language: http://inst.eecs.berkeley.edu/~selfpace/class/cs9c Most of the materials are available online. You just need to buy or borrow the book, and you don't have access to the SPC tutors and obviously don't get a grade or course credit. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 365943]
Created attachment 40902 Add JumpyCursorThreshold option patch v5 For those touchpads that don't support multi-finger or sending correct finger width, the jumpy cursor problem is still there. One notable example is the ClickPad found on Lenovo S10-3t whose ClickPad suffers from this jumpy cursor problem very severely, because its buttons also have sensible surface thus every time you click a button without lifting another finger from the pad, such as when trying to drag a window or select text, the cursor jumps, and renders the whole touchpad nigh unusable. (if you are wondering why Synaptics driver doesn't enable ClickPad mode and limit the touch area thus ignore ABS sent from button area, it's because those ClickPads send out BTN_LEFT and BTN_RIGHT just as normal touchpads so they don't trigger the ClickPad mode, which is designed for ClickPads that never send BTN_RIGHT) Therefore Alberto Milone's JumpyCursorThreshold option patch is still needed, which is the best solution I've seen so far. I've attached the new patch I ported to head. I've tested it in MeeGo and it works very well (with Threshold set to 250). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365943 Title: Mouse cursor jumps when two fingers are used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-driver-synaptics/+bug/365943/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Perhaps under the load of oneiric's Unity3D the driver isn't able to keep up with the graphics loads, and isn't able to fill the pipe 100% of the time? How could that be proved/disproved (or are we way off base?) [Original Description] I have a Lenovo X200 laptop, and I run Unity 3D. Every so often, since oneiric, my screen jitters. That is, it seems to jump up and down like it has a nervous twitch. I can't reproduce it exactly, but it seems more likely to happen when my system is under load. I've monitored .xsession-errors when the twitch happens, and nothing is dumped there. I've also checked /var/crash/, but none of the crashes there have times that match the twitch. Chris Halse Rogers suggested trying, echo 0 /sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll, but that doesn't seem to correct the problem. In addition, unity_support_test crashed while filing this bug. Does this issue occur with the preferred ati driver (xf86-vide-ati)? If so, please move this to the Driver/Radeon component. Development of radeonhd has pretty much halted and development focus is on the ati driver. Please see http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonhd If the issue does not exist in the ati driver (or if there is no response to this message), this bug will be closed as WONTFIX unless someone contributes a patch. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/412688 Title: [karmic] Radeon HD/RS780 Azalia - No HDMI sound by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-driver-radeonhd/+bug/412688/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

To be honest, I don't know if it is my video card, Java, or my processor that is the problem. When I run Minecraft, Java usually crashes after a few minutes. And not just Java, it usually beings down a few other processes with it. I could run this fine in 11.04. After Java crashed this time, Apport had me report this bug. Also, after Java crashed this time, Unity also crashed, so I currently have no panels or window decorations. I'll reboot and try to crash it all again, and see if I can get some more useful information. All I know is that Java consistently crashes in Oneiric while running Minecraft on my system, and almost always causes more problems when it crashes. (Compare: http://keithp.com/blogs/X_output_status_july_2008/) Problem: The visual impression is often (always in my experience) very bad: * external monitor often do not support the naive resolution of the laptop display * Even worse: first common resolution supported by both monitors has not the same aspect ratio as the displays Suggested solution for same aspect ratio: ...much better would be: If both monitors have the same aspect ratio (e.g. 16:10 or 4:3) choose the smaller resolution as the common base and scale to the size bigger monitor. (Because only one monitor needs scaling it should even save tons of GPU cycles. With the proposed algorithm, one output runs with the 'perfect' native resolution and only one is transformed, with taspect ratio is presered! Having upgraded to the 3.0.0-13-generic #22-Ubuntu kernel (without the RS690M patch) after the security release a couple of days ago, I realise that there is really no improvement on my HP Compaq 6715b whether I run Alex's patch or not. The graphics are very lagged in both Unity 3D and 2D. For an example of this, pull down the far-right (what is the name for that, settings?) from the top bar and move your mouse pointer up and down over the menu items. The orange highlight bar lags substantially behind the mouse pointer position. The same can be observed by picking a window up by its title bar and dragging it around the workspace. The mouse pointer becomes more and more detached from the title bar of the window as you drag and the window lags behind. Hopefully this explains the usability impact of this bug? If there's any more technical data I can collect from my particular RS690M installation that would help, please just ask? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/755791 Title: [RS690M] No 3d acceleration in Radeon X1200 with new Gallium r300 / 3d drivers in 11.04 (Needs kernel quirk) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/755791/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Before there was code made to detect the GPIO mode and not do any DDC queries if it is in serial port mode. But while that checking still exists and the fact that it is in UART mode gets reported in Xorg.0.log, DDC calls are still made through RANDR impementation vfunc regardless of that, and Xorg crashes on the results that gets to in UART mode. This bug is the primary reason 2.11 is not packaged in Gentoo Linux yet, as it breaks things for my own geode platform development :( Reply at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/873942/comments/0 On 2010-04-20T02:34:49+00:00 Leio-gentoo wrote: A workaround is Option NoDDC in xorg.conf. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 890890] Re: Corruption of images in Java applets after update to Oneiric
Update: I reinstalled Ubuntu, and switched to 32 bit. The problem is gone now. I figured it out by running both 32 bit and 64 bit off a flash drive, and only the 64 bit version had the problem. However, it's not a 64 bit Java issue, as my other machine is 64 bit and has no problems. So it's probably the 64 bit graphics driver. In general, I've found the intel graphics to work much better with Unity than others, so this is a surprise. The problem may have been present in 11.04 as well, since my previous install was 32 bit. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/890890 Title: Corruption of images in Java applets after update to Oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/890890/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 894600] [NEW] Xorg freeze with neauvou
Public bug reported: The facts: Xorg freezes. No display corruption Mouse moves but does not change like it should (for example when over text). Alt+SysRQ+R, then Alt+SysRQ+K kills X and lets me log in again. Happens only with Unity, not unaccelerated environments. Using Neauvou driver on 11.10. Wasn't a problem on Maverick. Animations that should be smooth are jittery like showing the unity bar or searching in Unity. Not so sure, but think is true: Seems to freeze with lots of text changes, especially in a terminal.
