[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883421] Re: material accelaraion disappeared
One thing that might improve the performance of the open-source radeon drivers slightly is this patch which was in the upstream 3.0.18 kernel: commit a674b8b3e345496a96aec389446650455b2fdfa1 Author: Alex Deucher Date: Tue Jan 3 09:48:38 2012 -0500 drm/radeon/kms: disable writeback on pre-R300 asics commit 28eebb703e28bc455ba704adb1026f76649b768c upstream. We often end up missing fences on older asics with writeback enabled which leads to delays in the userspace accel code, so just disable it by default on those asics. Reported-by: Helge Deller Reported-by: Dave Airlie Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher Signed-off-by: Dave Airlie Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman Ubuntu kernels 3.0.0-16.29 and later are based on this upstream kernel version. If the upcoming Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal pulls in version 6.14.4 of the open-source radeon driver, released on 28 March 2012 (or the just-released 6.14.5 version), you might get a small performance improvement on your old Radeon Mobility 7500 due to the implementation of KMS tiling. KMS tiling was already supported on newer Radeon hardware. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1006145] Re: Logitech Mouse not recognised on boot in 12.04
Hello Manny, I am not a linux guru as well. But i must tell you, i wrote down something more in /etc/rc.local. This could be well related to the same problem. Combination of these lines solved the problem of my wireless mouse/keyboard and suspend problem. In my case Linux Mint Maya. My laptop EEEPC1201n did not suspend in the right way as well, besides mouse/keyboard problem. It resumed immediate after suspend. This immediate resume was caused by the Unifying dongle of Logitech. I solved it by following next link: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1642817 point #2 Now i think the dongle and the USB port combination is causing this trouble. In my case adding following lines in my /etc/rc.local did solve both problems. echo USB0 /proc/acpi/wakeup echo USB2 /proc/acpi/wakeup echo US15 /proc/acpi/wakeup echo US12 /proc/acpi/wakeup modprobe -r hid_logitech_dj modprobe hid_logitech_dj Good luck! Op 09-06-12 14:16, Manny Fernandez schreef: @Oost: Hello. Thanks, but issue is not corrected. Did the fix as directed and rebooted; mouse and keyboard were inoperative until I unplugged and re-connected the Logitech dongle. Caveat: only tried it once, however, the fault does not occur 100% of the time but about 50% to 75% of boot iterations (before your suggested fix). I will keep the fix in and see if frequency changes. Note here: I am knowledgeable enough to be dangerous, but am not a systems programmer or a Linux guru. I mess with operating systems (sort of). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011086] [NEW] X freezes after connecting external monitor
Public bug reported: I've just upgraded to 12.04 from 11.10, and now when I connect my external monitor, either before or after login, my X session freezes up. It also seems to stop ctrl-alt-Fkey from letting me switch to a console. I've attached an Xorg.log that shows me booting up with both monitors attached, and then later me logging in, after which it happens. I observed the default wallpaper being stretched across both monitors, then everthing freezes up. The OS seems to stop responding to all keypresses but I can still log in via SSH. When I log in via SSH, X is running at 100%. I did an strace on the running X process, but it doesn't look very useful. lsb_release -rd output: Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release:12.04 uname -a Linux tehlappy 3.2.0-25-generic #40-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 23 20:30:51 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1011086 Title: X freezes after connecting external monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1011086/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982710] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40 driver is extremely slow
Alberto, thanks for the suggestion, but I've seen that suggested on forums for months, for several driver versions, and people have reported that persistent mode makes no difference. It also doesn't make sense that it should help, given what it says on the man page. And I've used this laptop for years and had no need for persistent mode. Right now I don't want to go back to the super-crashy driver to test a setting that probably won't fix it. There is clearly a bug introduced by NVIDIA that they need to fix. Are you suggesting that I try that because of something you read on a forum, or did someone from NVIDIA indicate it might work around the crash, or...? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973419] Re: ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2: Nvidia Bianary Drivers with Xinerama corupts non GTK3 themes
I also have this problem. I am using an nVidia GTX460 and since I updated to Ubuntu 11.10 I cannot configure my dual monitor with xinerama. I use the nVidia privative drivers which can be installed in ubuntu. I have tried to use Gnome3 thinking this was a problem with Unity but with Gnome3 it doesn't work either. The only way I can use my two monitors with xinerama enable is using Ubuntu 2D session, avoiding effects of Unity but as someone has told before, this implies that some programs are not themed. It also make every transparency disapear. I hope to have something fixing it as early as possible because I need the dual monitor for work and if it possible with the newest Ubuntu. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573957] Re: X server crashes randomly
This bug also affects 11.10 (Oneiric). Specifically, I get crashes randomly during OpenGL screen savers, when Firefox is opened after a manual logout from KDE (I am running Kubuntu), and occasionally at other times. When this happens, my compositing is disabled automatically, and the crashes become more frequent until I re-enable it. The screen saver crashes tend to happen more often when compositing is enabled. The Firefox crashes seem to happen less often when compositing is enabled (actually, I don't recall Firefox causing crashes at all when compositing is enabled). I believe this install was clean. The Firefox crash is identical to this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1882522, when compositing is disabled. I've attached kdm.log. If any other log files would be useful, let me know and I will include them as well. ** Attachment added: kdm.log https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/573957/+attachment/3183464/+files/kdm.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573957 Title: X server crashes randomly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/573957/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 582809] Re: Synaptics Clickpad touchpad buttons are not working
I modify my patchs (base on Takashi work). It works with my HP Envy 17. The modifications ares : - Modify the synaptics.conf to add the sofbuttonareas (Option SoftButtonAreas 60% 0 82% 0 40% 60% 82% 0) - Add a new property double tap led status to works with synclient and syndaemon. So, if you disable the touchpad with double-tap on led, the syndaemon is by-pass. If you re-enable the touchpad with double-tap on led or with synclient (TouchpadOff=0), the syndaemon continues to work. - Modify the the softbuttonaras to accept float as parameter and if right_left = middle_right, soustract 1 to middle_right (for example, 60.5% 0 82.3% 0 40% 60.5% 82.3% 0). - To enable or disable the double tap on led, I modify the double-tap size (double of the MaxDoubleTapTime) because it was difficult to double tap on led. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/582809 Title: Synaptics Clickpad touchpad buttons are not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/582809/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011207] [NEW] Xsession ERRFILE and HDD power saving

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
I thought I found a safe shelter with Xubuntu but after almost a week of uptime XFCE froze. So far I've tried Unity 3D, 2D and XFCE (installed from scratch) and all of them freeze. I tried kernels 3.3.x and 3.4.x with no obvious siccess. Dell XPS Studio 8100, i7 860 (Lynnfield Nehalem), nVidia GeForce GT 220, 8Gb ram, fake (BIOS) RAID 1. Based on this bug report it doesn't seem to be specific to GPU, packaging (Unity/Gnome/KDE/XFCE/LXDE), architecture and software running at the time of freezing. I am leaving Ubuntu for good. It's just too unstable for me at this time and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999910] Re: [IVB]12.04 64 bit System freezes (mouse, keyboard)
I've been having similar problems. I'm using an i5-3570K IB with HD 4000 on a Gygabyte Z77X-UD3H motherboard. I started with the 64 bit install fom ubuntu.org and had very frequent freezes. I switched to the recommended 32 bit and it's decreased significantly, but I still have freezes. If audio is playing, the last 1/8 second or so repeats during the freeze. I brand-new to Linux (been a Mac user) so I'm still finding my way around, including how to properly file bug reports. The new kernel is an itriguing solution, and I'd obviously prefer to run 64 bit, but it apears to me that there are also issues under 32 bit. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/10 Title: [IVB]12.04 64 bit System freezes (mouse, keyboard) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/10/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 930807] Re: [gm45] Intel GPU X4500 hung, screen corruption without total freeze
apport information ** Description changed: Hi, just experienced the second (partial) crash of my graphics subsystem, this time I'm able to report it instead of rebooting the machine, as the remaining functionality is much greater this time... Yesterday it happened within rssowl, scrolling down to an embedded gif animation; this time it was just random surfing the web with firefox, reading news at a hardware magazine. Screen goes blank for a moment, afterwards characters go invisible or form blocks and special chars, title bars of windows go black and buttons become unreadable (however, stay functional). Within an already opened vmware machine, the mouse pointer is just a rectangular mess of colorful pixels and some milder screen corruption happens. Restarting applications does not fully recover the state (but it cures over time). Some applications are affected much stronger than others, rekonq (why do I have to report bugs with rekonq?!) offers now full functionality, while content in firefox was nearly unreadable. Will append photos if it occurs next time, as there are no real artifacts left that would describe the initial problem. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011317] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: I have a HP Pavilion dm1-4010us; after upgrading to Ubunu 12.04 from 10.04 I began experiencing freezes. In such a freeze, the mouse is completely unresponsive, the keyboard almost so: Ctrl+Alt+F1 has no effect (both with and without the Fn key, which I never have to use to get to framebuffer console anyways), but I am able to Alt+PrintScrn+REISUB to reboot. They happen more often when my laptop is under a high load, but not always -- I have had a freeze completely idle. I believe ability to REISUB means there's no kernel panic, so I suspect the problem is in graphics drivers or something of the like; the freezes persist through both generic ubuntu drivers and proprietary ati drivers. Attempts to recreate the freezes are rarely successful; there's no one program opening that causes them or something. They occur most often (besides during high load) when a program is opening, closing, or changing state. Again, I'm running Ubuntu 12.04; my xorg is version 1:7.6+12ubuntu1, as reported by apt-cace policy xorg. I say normal because although i could enter my password to unlock, the screen was flickering really badly and unity was exhibiting some really weird behavior -- menus folding back right after I'd clicked on them, dialogs (e.g. the shutdown one) disappearing before I had a chance to click on them, etc. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.39-generic 3.2.16 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-24-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu8 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, composite, opengl, decor, regex, gnomecompat, vpswitch, compiztoolbox, move, resize, grid, animation, snap, imgpng, place, unitymtgrabhandles, session, mousepoll, workarounds, wall, expo, fade, ezoom, scale, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz Date: Sun Jun 10 19:42:38 2012 DistUpgraded: 2012-01-16 22:21:19,701 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: precise DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: virtualbox, 4.1.12, 3.2.0-24-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, whatever it takes to get this fixed in Ubuntu GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:21d2] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Release amd64 (20111012) MachineType: LENOVO 4170CTO ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-24-generic root=UUID=6c8b89f7-f0ef-440b-bea8-ccb5f8d5b8a3 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xserver-xorg-video-intel UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to precise on 2012-01-17 (145 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 11/01/2011 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 8CET50WW (1.30 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 4170CTO dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Not Available dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr8CET50WW(1.30):bd11/01/2011:svnLENOVO:pn4170CTO:pvrThinkPadT420s:rvnLENOVO:rn4170CTO:rvrNotAvailable:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 4170CTO dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T420s dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs 20090808ubuntu36 version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.32-1ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 8.0.2-0ubuntu3.1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 8.0.2-0ubuntu3.1 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.2 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20111201+b5534a1-1build2 ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug compiz-0.9 precise ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1011344 Title: Screen corruption (two thirds black, one third striped) when enabling MapsGL on gmaps To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1011344/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973297] Re: Xorg recognizes Logitech Headset USB dongle as input device then segfaults in XIChangeDeviceProperty
It seems the latest patch (1:2.7.0-0ubuntu2) was only uploaded for testing to Quantal, but this bug report was updated stating a fix was committed to Precise. Is is possible to upload this patch for Precise too please? Or, if I'm doing this wrong, please advise me. Are we supposed to install it from the Quantal patch collection? Is this safe? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
I'm disappointed in how wide spread this issue appears to be, with little to no fixes except rolling back things that many will have trouble dealing with. I too am having the random logoffs, normally when using flash in either firefox or chrome I will probably just ditch Unity for KDE for awhile until this gets fixed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 Title: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/973096/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
