[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 977804] Re: Unity crashes when many windows are opened (intel_do_flush_locked failed: No space left on device)
Hi all, I have the same issue affecting Ubuntu 12.04 (x86 desktop) on lenovo 3000 v100, which has an Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME graphics card. I used to restart compiz when this bug crashes my desktop, but I also noticed that changing the "window switcher" in unity works as a work around. I tested the following solution with opening 40 nautilus windows, and hitting alt-tab several times, as well as with the Workspace switcher, and there was no crash. Anyway, all I did was: - install ccsm (sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager) - run ccsm (go to dash, type ccsm) - Scroll down to Window Management - Enable Application Switcher (the top-left plugin right under Windows Management). - It will tell you several key bindings are the same with Unity. Select the appropriate option to override these settings. - That's all. I wrote the above steps from my mind, so if someone can test & write a better guide that would be great. best, batu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/977804 Title: Unity crashes when many windows are opened (intel_do_flush_locked failed: No space left on device) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/977804/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

mythtv-common needs the usual 'print' fix. Here's a patch. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
It's pretty much been a week and I'm pleased to inform you guys that staying on Linux kernel 3.2.0-23 won't freeze the computer. Just make sure you're not using the 'pae' kernel because that seems to be part of the problem, unless you really, really need it. It doesn't need to be the lowlatency kernel, obviously. This works with both Ubuntu and Kubuntu. One time I mistakenly kept the 'pae' and it froze my system, so this is why I will be stressing to NOT USE THE 'PAE'. In order to do this, you need to go onto Synaptic Package Manager and completely remove any and all occurrences of the 3.2.0-25 kernel and install the 3.2.0-23 kernel, image and header. Again, NOT THE 'PAE'!! All you'd need to do is have Synaptic look for "3.2.0-25" and then "3.2.0-23" and you should be golden. Then, when you reboot, go into GRUB and make sure the kernel is correct. You may need to go into the "Previous Linux Versions" in order to find the older kernel. If this is the case, then a step was missed. I will say that I've had a lot more reliability with the low latency kernel, and will give a more detailed report about the older generic kernel. It did freeze once, but I was doing a SMART test on my hard drive at the time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881] Re: Right-Ctrl key broken on French OSS keyboard
The change is from patch 109_fr_oss_space_char.patch which was brought in with version 2.5-1ubuntu1.1. Changing the behavior of the right control key was intentional, as requested by reporters in bug #221112 to fix a bad problem that occurs when using Rhythmbox. 2.5-1ubuntu1.1 is included in precise-updates now, since the SRU request was accepted and processed. So it's too late to pull the fix, it'd need a new SRU filed with a reversion. Note that the patch in question was also included in Lucid and Maverick as a Ubuntu-specific patch (when RB was the default music player), but inadvertently got dropped for natty and oneiric. Meanwhile, the patch was sent upstream and accepted there. While the patch is a behavioral change compared with oneiric, since it preserves a behavior fixed in Lucid it seems sensible to me to include it to eliminate the LTS->LTS behavior change. As to the proposed alternate solution, I am open to that if it does indeed fix things for both parties, *and* if it gets taken upstream. I see that bug reporters have already raised that upstream, so thanks! What we're going to do is wait and see what upstream thinks about it, and if/when they commit a fix we can consider pulling it for Ubuntu too. ** Changed in: xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => In Progress ** Also affects: xkeyboard-config via https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15804 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1013881 Title: Right-Ctrl key broken on French OSS keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xkeyboard-config/+bug/1013881/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

apache2.2-common has a hook that uses 'unicode()'. That can be replaced by 'str()', but doesn't actually break on my python3 install. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881] Re: Right-Ctrl key broken on French OSS keyboard
Yes, I am left handed! So what? Having RCtrl broken is against the tradition of computer keyboards. It is against the philosophy of Ubuntu: computer for people – including left handed, those who are born with two hands, and those who have to type only with one. Letting a bug in Rhythmbox is not a good option too. What does lead to wrongly input nbsp chars if we put it into level 3 instead of level 4? Most of keyboards use level3, except a Finland one which use «include "nbsp(level4)"», not «include "nbsp(level4n)"» I think the the support of nbsp(level4n) is broken in X11. And really, removing RCtrl is not an option. 2012/6/26 Sebastien Bacher > Emmanual: reading the upstream bug we have the choice between > > - having space input broken in media players (i.e rhythmbox) > - having rctrl broken > - having a layout that leads to wrongly input nbsp chars > > neiher of those look to good and I'm not sure what's the best solution, > I will need to check what lucid was doing but > > - the rhythmbox issue was solved at this time (not sure if the fix was > already breaking rctrl there) > - we really want the rhythmbox issue fixed, so if we have to choice we > will pick one of the 2 other bugs > - I'm not sure how many users use rctrl, I'm french and I never used it > nor saw people around me use ... are you left handed (I'm wondering if that > reverses usage and if a lefty would use the right ctrl)? > > until we get those questions sorted we will stay on the current > behaviour which seems the less annoying from the ones listed > > -- > You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug > report. > https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1013881 > > Title: > Right-Ctrl key broken on French OSS keyboard > > To manage notifications about this bug go to: > > https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/1013881/+subscriptions > -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1013881 Title: Right-Ctrl key broken on French OSS keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/1013881/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013171] Re: Many package hooks not ported to python3
chromium-browser has three different things that need to be changed, in its apport hook. The print and except statements, I understand what to do. The third issue is a list comprehension, I think. It looked like this: for ext in entry['extensions']['settings'].keys(): The 2to3 tool wants to wrap that in "list()" : for ext in list(entry['extensions']['settings'].keys()): That looks fair enough, according to the python 3 docs. But I don't really know why this line needs fixing, while for plugin in entry['plugins']['plugins_list']: does not. I can see that the former line has a method call or something, with ".keys()". But since I can't tell you why those are treated differently, I'd better ask for someone more knowledgeable to look at this. Thanks. ** Patch added: "python3 patch for chromium-browser's apport hook. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985065] Re: Can't use fr/oss keyboard layout by default
This bug was fixed in the package xkeyboard-config - 2.5-1ubuntu5 --- xkeyboard-config (2.5-1ubuntu5) quantal; urgency=low * Add 113_ossmath_is_five_levels.patch: Some keymaps like fr/oss fail to load because they include ossmath (via keypad(oss)) which misconfigures the keypad as 4-level when it should be 5-level. This patch from upstream bugzilla fixes this by adding the 5th level to the ossmath definition. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1017377] Re: no GUI after update to 12.04
For the life of me I cannot see why the Sys V init system was replaced. It was simple, and easy to understand, and you only had to do it once or twice a year except when debugging forced many reboots. Even then it was more than fast enough. I am having real trouble trying to work out what starts what, and what should be started. For heavens sake, if you are going to introduce something new could you not at least document it a bit better. I have tried searching your wiki for variations on "what starts unity" with no success whatsoever. I rather thought that GPL software was supposed to be user supported. I don't see how it can be if I cannot find out what is going wrong first. I have spent hours on this now and still have no clear idea what is failing, or even if 'xorg' is the correct package to file this bug under. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1017377 Title: no GUI after update to 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1017377/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

wretched thing - I was still editing that. Continued: OpenGL version string 2.1.2 NVIDIA 295.40 and then 10 things answered 'yes'' ending with Unity 3D supported: yes So obviously: 1) Unity does need X 2) X is not starting. I am trying to pick my way through upstart and /etc/init to find out what is supposed to start X. I suppose it is some sort of desktop manager,. A bit of a grep shows that gdm-simple-slave and gdm-binary are both running. That, in turn, led me to /var/log/gdm:0.log , which suggested I delete /tmp/.X1-log That did no good at all, and I am back where I started. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1017377] Re: no GUI after update to 12.04
OK, that xlog file was full of failures, so I wondered if it was something to do with my profile. I have made a new one: as root mv /home/bob /home/bob.old cp /etc/skel /home/bob chown bob:bob -R /home/bob reboot - exactly the same. So it was nothing to do with my profile then. curiously, having done that, there is no .xsession-errors in the new directory. There is a launchpad comment missing with the x log attachment - I wrote a response to the robot about the fact I had been forced to choose a package. According to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage the GUI is handled by X.org, but I thought I had read that 12.04 and it's new playschool desktop had abandoned X. That response did not survive my attempts to post the attachment, for some reason. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
My fresh installation of 12.04 on my HP Touchsmart (x86_64), with nVidia graphics freezes within one minute of logging in. It doesn't matter if I run any applications or not...the system will freeze. I can move the mouse, but I cannot type anything, e.g., to get a console, and nothing responds to clicking. (The keyboard worked long enough for me to type the admin password, open a shell and type "ifconfig eth0" to find my ip address.) In the minute before the freeze, I ran software updates, but there are no new updates to install. I got the ip address of the computer, but I don't have ssh configured yet on that computer, so I can't ssh into it (if it's still running and if it's only the display that's frozen. I don't know.) I have no idea what to file this bug under. It doesn't work long enough to find out. Any guidance? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015183] Re: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor
OK, I believe I now have a good idea as to why the first ButtonPress in xev has state 0x100. This appears to be due to an TouchOwnership event. If ownership changes, such an event is inserted into the queue, so it will always be processed after the BeginTouch event. I wonder how much later it might get processed, but as there appears to be some history, I simply assume everything is all right there. So the TouchBegin arrives, sets state = 0x100, enqueues an Ownership event, and when that arrives, ProcessTouchOwnershipEvent will first run TouchRejected. This in turn will call EmitTouchEnd, but will not update state. Then TouchPuntToNextOwner will replay the history. The ButtonPress core event corresponding to the initial TouchBegin is now delivered with the CURRENT device state, i.e. 0x100. For source code of TouchRejected, see http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/tree/Xi/exevents.c?id=a986f2f30cbe2a00e72ded7315c4951d7703e549#n1210 I haven't come up with a fix yet, as I haven't fully understood this whole ownership and history/replay business here. But I assume that a proper fix would be restoring the state to what it was at the beginning of the history before replaying said history. Input from people more fluent in that code would be greatly appreciated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1015183 Title: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1015183/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

No, no missing action items. This bug is very old, and existed across many different kernel versions, it's just that you've only now reacted to it, so it seems new to you. Unless you have reason to believe that recent changes have changed the behaviour (i.e. a source code diff), then installing the mainline kernel isn't going to do any good. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015183] Re: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor
OK, I bvelieve I've identified the main problem here: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=a986f2f30cbe2a00e72ded7315c4951d7703e549 http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-xorg/xserver/xorg-server.git;a=commitdiff;h=96d8df5bc9d400d55830b23afe5525b222f8dfc7 Due to that commit, the ET_TouchEnd branch of UpdateDeviceState never receives the TOUCH_END flag it expects, so it never lifts the button. In fact, there are currently only two references to the TOUCH_END macro in the whole upstream xorg git tree: one its definition in include/input.h, the other this check in Xi/exevents.c. There is noone left ever setting this flag. http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/tree/include/input.h?id=a986f2f30cbe2a00e72ded7315c4951d7703e549#n80 http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/tree/Xi/exevents.c?id=a986f2f30cbe2a00e72ded7315c4951d7703e549#n974 The reodering of events which the commit does will also break the state reported for the release event. As far as I understand things (and as it behaves for my regular mouse), the state should reflect the state of buttons BEFORE the event happened. There is a comment to that effect somewhere in the X sources. Reordering the calls in ProcessTouchEvent will cause the state to be already 0 for the release event, where it should be 0x100 still. As the original commit originated from Chase Douglas who is a member of the ubuntu-x-swat team, I suppose he will read this message here and might provide additional information as to how his change was intended to work, and whether backing it out of the code will likely break things for other users. If he doesn't usually follow bug mail, someone please make him aware of this issue here. The only remaining problem is the fact that the ButtonPress event has state 0x100 already, where it should have state 0x000 to match the lack of pressed buttons preceeding that event. I'll see whether I can pinpoint that problem as well. If I can, I will attach a patch including that fix as well. Otherwise a simple reverse application of the commit I pointed out above will be enough. @Stefan Krastanov, please see if this fix works for you, otherwise please open a new bug report for your issue.
