[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973506] Re: Huge processor's loading by Xorg process when nvidia proprietary drivers installed
I doubt it is an Nvidia issue for these reasons: 1.) I've installed 12.04 on my mom's quad core, and Nvidia proprietary is _probably_ not installed there. 2.) This happens in Firefox, but NOT Chromium(on the same web page, namely cuttherope.ie) 3.) According to the top command(I can post the top screen shot if you insist) the problem is this: Chrome distributes the work between several threads(both Chrome and xorg threads are busy) hence utilizing more cores for the same job. In fact, Chrome uses more total CPU than Firefox for this job, but it is very smooth.) Firefox, somehow, seems to dump the whole task onto xorg(and a single thread, apparently.) I have Ubuntu 10.04-LTS on another 2 core box. The same version of Firefox(16.0.2) is running there. HOWEVER, Firefox(10.04-LTS) renders that same web page very smoothly. Like Chromium(12.04-LTS) it distributes the work, apparently, evenly between the FF process and xorg, i.e. several cores.) It is strange: if the FF versions weren't the same, I would surely report it to the Mozilla people. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081108] [NEW] Xorg crash after clicking on workspace in inkscape
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce on my machine: 1) open inkscape 2) click anywhere on workspace Result: X dies, back to login prompt Expected result: nothing should happen Details of my setup: I did not manage to get an Xorg backtrace yet as I don't have a second maching to do the remote SSH thing. For testing the x stack I've had to rebuild the older xorg-server and mesa during testing, which worked fine with the newer headers. ** Affects: x11proto-dri2 (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Maarten Lankhorst (mlankhorst) Status: New ** Affects: x11proto-gl (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Maarten Lankhorst (mlankhorst) Status: New ** Affects: x11proto-randr (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Maarten Lankhorst (mlankhorst) Status: New ** Package changed: apt (Ubuntu) = x11proto-dri2 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: x11proto-dri2 (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Maarten Lankhorst (mlankhorst) ** Also affects: x11proto-randr (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: x11proto-gl (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: x11proto-gl (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Maarten Lankhorst (mlankhorst) ** Changed in: x11proto-randr (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Maarten Lankhorst (mlankhorst) ** Changed in: x11proto-dri2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: x11proto-gl (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: x11proto-randr (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: x11proto-gl (Ubuntu) Milestone: None = ubuntu-12.04.2 ** Changed in: x11proto-randr (Ubuntu) Milestone: None = ubuntu-12.04.2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to x11proto-dri2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1081122 Title: x11proto-(gl,randr,dri2)-dev need to be updated for backport stack To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/x11proto-dri2/+bug/1081122/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1074779] Re: llvmpipe used after clean install instead of intel
Causing the problem on Ubuntu 12.04.1 when installing the 3.5 kernel is not too surprising as that kernel contains some, but not all, of the updates needed to support your hybrid graphics. All of the pieces are supposedly present in Ubuntu 12.10, as per bug 1053250 (it doesn't mention the nouveau driver but I recall reading that it was upated to support hybrid graphics too), however hybrid graphics is only working for a select few people (such as the reporter of bug 1053250, who has different hardware to you) and remains problematic - see http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=MTIxOTM This article also summarizes some of the hybrid graphics improvements planned for Ubuntu 13.04. See https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-r-gaming-platform-graphics-support and especially https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-r-hybrid-graphics-user-experience to monitor progress in this area. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1074779 Title: llvmpipe used after clean install instead of intel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1074779/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973506] Re: Huge processor's loading by Xorg process when nvidia proprietary drivers installed
The bug sure seemed like an nVidia issue to me, especially with the older GPU 8400M GS I have. I didn't even have Firefox running. Switching between windows, moving windows, operating menus produced huge large spikes in CPU utilization. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080808] Re: nVidia/nouveau fails when logging in to Ubuntu/Kubuntu with kernel 3.7.0-2
Do you mean the PGRAPH errors in dmesg? Any other errors displayed to the console or other logs? Your report is a bit ambiguous on one point: You say you've been seeing the bug since Quantal, around Beta2, however you later say that Booting back on the current Quantal kernel restores it to working. Care to clarify? By chance could you be lumping two distinct bugs together? Focusing on the raring 100% failure on login. There are mainline kernels at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ you can try testing. If it were me, I'd start at 3.5-quantal and verify that works, then test v3.7-rc6-raring and verify that fails, then randomly test kernels between those versions to narrow down when the regression first starts. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1080808 Title: nVidia/nouveau fails when logging in to Ubuntu/Kubuntu with kernel 3.7.0-2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1080808/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081288] [NEW] Black screen when ubuntu bootup splash screen is expected.
Public bug reported: I use HDD encryption, hence I am given a passphrase prompt at the beginning of the boot process. Every second bootup the screen remains black when the ubuntu splash is expected. When this happens, it results in me having to reset the laptop. This in turn yields the grub menu. When proceeding to load the kernel, the ubuntu splash screen appears as expected. This problem does not occurr with fglrx. I have enabled the grub menu for every bootup. The problem persists though. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081288] Re: Black screen when ubuntu bootup splash screen is expected.
** Description changed: I use HDD encryption, hence I am given a passphrase prompt at the beginning of the boot process. This might be related to suspend/resume problems (screen remains black - after resume) which I will create another bug for. + after resume) which I will create another bug for. Reproduced with xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.12.0-2.fc17.x86_64 (Using GNOME 3 you can reproduce by setting up two monitors like this with the primary monitor on the left - a pointer barrier will be set up at position X to make the hot corner at the bottom left. Try mousing along the bottom row of pixels on the left monitor. This leak is not observed if the two monitors are the same size, indicating that the pointer barrier is correctly positioned.) The barrier must align with the edge of a monitor and the movement _vector_ must not overlap with the barrier. e.g. if you're in that corner, moving by 1/1 will block, moving by 1/2 won't block. Cause is that the fixes code that calculates whether a barrier is blocking doesn't know about screen edges. So the picture the fixes code sees for a movement a to b is a X \X \ b Which is permitted since the movement goes just past the barrier. The RandR code to clamp to monitors sees this picture: ++-+ || | || | || | | a | | +---\+ | \ | |b| +-+ Which too is allowed since the destination exists in RandR space. The two operations are quite separated in the server, merging them is tricky. As a workaround for now, I suggest either extending the barrier to the bottom of the second monitor like this: ++-+ || | || | || | |X | +X | X | X | X-+ or, alternatively, to create a horizontal barrier in that corner that shares the same endpoint with the vertical one. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081423] [NEW] Mouse buttons give back more than one event sometimes
Public bug reported: Since the latest updates to xorg mouse buttons may report more than one event for every mouse key press. This leads to various negative effects: - klicking left mouse button at the title of a window to drag it: since more than one event delivered the window is roled up instead - klicking left on a printer to select it: the printer is not only selected, but printing is initiated, without any possibility to change settings - klicking right to open a context menu: the menu is opened, then closed, because multiple events are generated - klicking right to open a context menu: the menu is opened, then a menu entry selected and executed without any posibility to select the menu entry. Which one is selected depends on where the mouse button was on screen, when the menu is taller than the space between lower edge and mouse cursor. - scrolling the mouse wheel: sometimes it is impossible to scroll to a defined possition, because multiple events scroll further than expected - selecting text leads to various unwanted results: -- text is selected, then moved arround, because of multiple key down-events This is with various mice: - Logitech - LC-Power - Microsoft Tested with more than one mouse from all of the above, to exclude defective mice. All of them work with Windows as expected. As soon as I clamt them to my Ubuntu-Box they all show the same behaviour: multiple events for one klick (doesn't mater which key), multiple events for scrolling. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882710] Re: [NVIDIA] Monitor(s) black out and session freezes. NVRM: GPU at 0000:01:00.0 has fallen off the bus.
I encountered a similar problem on my desktop system running 11.04 with the nVidia proprietary driver. Using Intel DH55TC motherboard and nVidia GTS 450 OR nVidia 9800GT (tried both). @thedanyes, I'm intrigued, can you play full screen openGL apps for long periods without crashes? some good tests are Marble Arena 2 or XBMC in full screen playing high-res video. if so, do you have links to the two motherboard firmware versions, or at least version numbers of both? update for me: still experience crashes in high-demand openGL apps -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882710 Title: [NVIDIA] Monitor(s) black out and session freezes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081009] Re: [arrandale] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x02000022
I just got the freeze again with linux- image-3.7.0-030700rc6-generic_3.7.0-030700rc6.201211162135_amd64.deb. Does the GPU dump give any information as to which upstream commits could be the culprit? I don't have a reliable way to reproduce this, I always just need to work with the computer for a few hours, so bisecting without informed guesses would take ages. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1081009 Title: [arrandale] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x0222 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1081009/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
