[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep

2014-05-12 Thread Yasser López
nomodeset as a kernel parameter fix the problem. But, if you use
nomodeset then you'll get software 3D acceleration in a clean
installation (it seems radeon driver breaks suspend). If you install
fglrx (binary blob) then you MUST use nomodeset to disable radeon (open
source) driver to load. Then, you'll get hardware 3D acceleration via
binary blob.

2014-05-12 Thread Emmanuel Castro
You're kidding ! In France, professional typographists use Macintosh, I
fear. And the average French user is not Joe, he's Jean.

And I'll write unconstructive sarcasms until I get my Right-Ctrl back ! (Do
note the French style space before the exclamation marks)

About a short nbsp in french, let's make it perfectly clear that there
must be about a hundred professionnal typographists in the whole country
who care about it - most of them not using Linux BTW - and the rest of
the ~40 million computer users here don't give a shit about a short
nbsp and don't even know what it is, feel perfectly happy with the
correct french they write without it, and many of them just would like
their fscking right [Ctrl] key back.

If a so thin minority of professional typographists that in no way
represent the average french Joe user want this modifier, it's
perfectly OK that they devise their own special layout for their on
needs, but by no means impose it on the rest of us.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881]

2014-05-12 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
BTW, about the punctuation signs that, in French, requires a nbsp before
them, i.e. ; : ! ? (for perfect typographic correctness, while
usually few people know about this and nobody really cares...) :

Usual word processing programs, such as OpenOffice / LibreOffice, when
configured to the french locale, add these typographically required
nbsps automagically, so people actually do not have to type the nbsp,
which makes the need for an easy entry of these still less of an issue.

Should we follow the slope of stealing a useful right [Ctrl] key for
this, then me might well in the future steal the left one for the dash
- , as in french, we typographically use at least 3 different lenghts
for dashes. As previously, word processing software usually transforms
the normal dash into the typographically correct dash... Nope, all
this mess of quite complex and unusual characters is the very reason for
which meta and compose keys exist in the first place...

I have set Disable touchpad when mouse is plugged in in System
Settings / Touchpad. Works fine until I suspend the laptop to RAM. When
waked up, touchpad is ON again. If I plug out and plug in the USB dongle

if a mouse is plugged.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318589] [NEW] [BDW] fix various GPU hang issues

2014-05-12 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

Backport an upstream commit that fixes various GPU hang bugs on
Broadwell.

commit 9584959123b0453cf5313722357e3abb9f736aa7
Author: Kenneth Graunke kenn...@whitecape.org
Date: Thu May 8 16:44:37 2014 -0700

i965: Fix GPU hangs on Broadwell in shaders with some control flow.

According to the documentation, we need to set the source 0 register
type to IMM for flow control instructions that have both JIP and UIP.

Fixes GPU hangs in approximately 10 Piglit tests, 5 es3conform tests,
Unigine Crypt, a WebGL raytracer demo, and several Steam titles.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318714] [NEW] Display Port on Nouveau breaks with linux 3.13.0-24

2014-05-12 Thread TragicWarrior
Public bug reported:

I have been happily using 3.11.0-19 since upgrading to 14.04 LTS. Over
the weekend I allowed the system to update to 3.13.0-24. While my
laptop is undocked, the display works find (built in display). When I
dock the laptop into the port-replicator which has 2 monitors attached
via Display Port, the screen becomes severely distorted (very low
resolution and many artifacts). The only way I could get the system
working again was to pick the older 3.11.0-19 kernel from Grub. For
this reason, this 'ubunut-bug' collected information about the good
configuration. Due to the level of corruption I don't believe it would
be possible to collect a report while running the broken kernel.

Please fix. This is a horrible regression.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep

2014-05-12 Thread Yasser López
@Patrick So, if you boot with nomodeset kernel parameter you can't wake
from suspend? I tried yesterday Sabayon Linux 14.05. They use the binary
blob as default when possible, if they can't use binary blob they
fallback to X.org radeon driver. The same behavior should be for nouveau
and binary nVIDIA blob, but I don't know if nVIDIA is still suppporting
your video card on Linux. I think nomodeset+binary AMD blob will fix the
problem for most of AMD users. It's just a workaround of course and only
an option if you don't mind using proprietary software.

On the other hand, you may try the VESA driver just to see if suspend
works and spot the problem. As the guy who reported this bug I'm
convinced we due the problem to some X.org driver(s). Are you still with
Mint Xfce 13? If so, try booting Sabayon Linux 14.05 on a live session
and... well, good luck.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep

2014-05-12 Thread Patrick C
@biolyasser: I installed Sabayon 14.04 minimal version, restore still
did not work. It was running just fluxbox. I had to use echo mem
/sys/power/state since other ways to suspend (like pm-suspend) were not
there. It did suspend but resumed to black screen as usual, except this
time it had an underscore char showing in the upper left. It was a 3.14
kernel.

I am using nvidia, and have found no difference between nouveau and
nvidia drivers as far as the bug goes.

This problem could be kernel related. For example, on debian wheezy (3.2
kernel) which doesn't have the bug, if I install the backported 3.13
kernel, it will now have the bug. Most of the action about
suspend/restore bug(s) is on the kernel.org bug site.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318815] [NEW] xinput settings not persistent

2014-05-12 Thread Stefan Witzel
Public bug reported:

When I set some mouse/touchpad settings and log off/on (or reboot) the
settings are lost.

As a workaround I tried putting the corresponding xinput lines in
.xsessionrc (as suggested somewhere) but that does not help either.

I am not sure who exactly would be responsible for saving the settings
so in case: I'm using xfce.

[This is offtopic but I would have loved to report this using ubuntu-bug
but this crashes itself every time it starts -- which is often.]

My versions are:
Ubuntu 14.04
xserver-xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu8

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881]

2014-05-12 Thread Remi
Swâmi,

We've all laid out these arguments many times over. Yes, this issue is
frustrating (and I regret having vented some of my own frustration in my
first comments) but let's keep it civil.

There are proposed solutions. I, for one, think Andreas' proposal is the
best way out of the current dead lock as it would allow each and
everyone of us to configure the fr-oss layout the way we want it. It's
now up to Sergey and Nicolas to decide how to move this forward.

Cheers

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 221112]

2014-05-12 Thread Samuel thibault
I too believe that Andreas' proposal is the right one. It permits people
who really want the extra 5th level to be able to easily get it, while
not breaking the 99% usual usage.

Just for the record, I had not seen the linuxfr discussion. I guess
mostly only people who would want the extra 5th level did realize that
it would steal the right control key. If a discussion happened on are
people fine with making the right control key the 5th level modifier by
*default*, the result would be quite different, I believe.

Thanks Stanislav, I was able to fix this by following your instructions.

Here's my fix for the Plantronics .Audio 626 DSP:

1. Put this in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-plantronics.rules:

  ACTION!=add|change, GOTO=xorg_plantronics_end
  KERNEL!=event*, GOTO=xorg_plantronics_end

  ENV{ID_VENDOR_ID}==047f, ENV{ID_MODEL_ID}==c006, ENV{ID_INPUT_KEY}=1

0xc00e9 volumeup 0xc00ea volumedown 0xb002f micmute

  LABEL=xorg_plantronics_end

2. Reload udev:

  sudo udevadm control --reload

3. Unplug the headset and plug it back in

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318323] Re: Lack of support for proprietary drivers

2014-05-12 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I don't think it's useful to keep a Mir task open for this. AMD may or
may not choose to support Mir directly at some point in the future, but
there are no Mir-internal changes for that.

Also note, in the cases like this where an incompatible driver is loaded
preventing Mir from working, the solution to avoiding a blank screen is
in bug 1118903.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318882] [NEW] lock screen not visible after resume

2014-05-12 Thread Jesse Gilles
Public bug reported:

Hardware: Macbook 2,1
Ubuntu 14.04 (updated)

Suspend and resume works fine, but frequently after resuming from
suspend the unity lock screen is not visible.

The screen is on and the mouse cursor is visible and moves around if the
touch pad is used, but the background is black.

If I switch to a VT and back, the lock screen always appears.

This issue doesn't happen on every resume, but is easily reproducible by
suspending and resuming a few times.
