[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep
nomodeset as a kernel parameter fix the problem. But, if you use nomodeset then you'll get software 3D acceleration in a clean installation (it seems radeon driver breaks suspend). If you install fglrx (binary blob) then you MUST use nomodeset to disable radeon (open source) driver to load. Then, you'll get hardware 3D acceleration via binary blob. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1283938 Title: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-lts-trusty/+bug/1283938/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

You're kidding ! In France, professional typographists use Macintosh, I fear. And the average French user is not Joe, he's Jean. BTW, about the punctuation signs that, in French, requires a nbsp before them, i.e. ; : ! ? (for perfect typographic correctness, while usually few people know about this and nobody really cares...) : Usual word processing programs, such as OpenOffice / LibreOffice, when configured to the french locale, add these typographically required nbsps automagically, so people actually do not have to type the nbsp, which makes the need for an easy entry of these still less of an issue. Should we follow the slope of stealing a useful right [Ctrl] key for this, then me might well in the future steal the left one for the dash - , as in french, we typographically use at least 3 different lenghts for dashes. As previously, word processing software usually transforms the normal dash into the typographically correct dash... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318714] [NEW] Display Port on Nouveau breaks with linux 3.13.0-24
Public bug reported: I have been happily using 3.11.0-19 since upgrading to 14.04 LTS. Over the weekend I allowed the system to update to 3.13.0-24. While my laptop is undocked, the display works find (built in display). When I dock the laptop into the port-replicator which has 2 monitors attached via Display Port, the screen becomes severely distorted (very low resolution and many artifacts). The only way I could get the system working again was to pick the older 3.11.0-19 kernel from Grub. For this reason, this 'ubunut-bug' collected information about the good configuration. Due to the level of corruption I don't believe it would be possible to collect a report while running the broken kernel. Please fix. This is a horrible regression. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep
@Patrick So, if you boot with nomodeset kernel parameter you can't wake from suspend? I tried yesterday Sabayon Linux 14.05. They use the binary blob as default when possible, if they can't use binary blob they fallback to X.org radeon driver. The same behavior should be for nouveau and binary nVIDIA blob, but I don't know if nVIDIA is still suppporting your video card on Linux. I think nomodeset+binary AMD blob will fix the problem for most of AMD users. It's just a workaround of course and only an option if you don't mind using proprietary software. On the other hand, you may try the VESA driver just to see if suspend works and spot the problem. As the guy who reported this bug I'm convinced we due the problem to some X.org driver(s). Are you still with Mint Xfce 13? If so, try booting Sabayon Linux 14.05 on a live session and... well, good luck.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep
@biolyasser: I installed Sabayon 14.04 minimal version, restore still did not work. It was running just fluxbox. I had to use echo mem /sys/power/state since other ways to suspend (like pm-suspend) were not there. It did suspend but resumed to black screen as usual, except this time it had an underscore char showing in the upper left. It was a 3.14 kernel. I am using nvidia, and have found no difference between nouveau and nvidia drivers as far as the bug goes. This problem could be kernel related. For example, on debian wheezy (3.2 kernel) which doesn't have the bug, if I install the backported 3.13 kernel, it will now have the bug. Most of the action about suspend/restore bug(s) is on the kernel.org bug site.

I too believe that Andreas' proposal is the right one. It permits people who really want the extra 5th level to be able to easily get it, while not breaking the 99% usual usage. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318323] Re: Lack of support for proprietary drivers
I don't think it's useful to keep a Mir task open for this. AMD may or may not choose to support Mir directly at some point in the future, but there are no Mir-internal changes for that. Also note, in the cases like this where an incompatible driver is loaded preventing Mir from working, the solution to avoiding a blank screen is in bug 1118903. ** Also affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist ** Summary changed: - Lack of support for proprietary drivers + Lack of support for AMD fglrx driver ** Changed in: mir Status: New = Invalid ** Summary changed: - Lack of support for AMD fglrx driver + Lack of Mir support in AMD fglrx driver -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318323 Title: Lack of Mir support in AMD fglrx driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mir/+bug/1318323/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318882] [NEW] lock screen not visible after resume
Public bug reported: Hardware: Macbook 2,1 Ubuntu 14.04 (updated) Suspend and resume works fine, but frequently after resuming from suspend the unity lock screen is not visible. The screen is on and the mouse cursor is visible and moves around if the touch pad is used, but the background is black. If I switch to a VT and back, the lock screen always appears. This issue doesn't happen on every resume, but is easily reproducible by suspending and resuming a few times.
