[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2033647] [NEW] When monitor set to 60Hz, "join screens" enabled
Public bug reported: Hello there, I have Ubuntu 23.04 installed on a Dell XPS 13 9300 with an LG 32" 4K Ergo Monitor attached as an external display. When I set the "primary display" at 1080p@60Hz for the LG 32" only with the "secondary display" of the Dell XPS 13" disabled" and "suspend power" of the Dell XPS 13, both the "primary display" of the LG 32" and the "secondary display" of the Dell XPS 13 are both "enabled" when resuming from "power suspend". Also, the frequency of the "primary display" of the LG 32" is lowered to 30Hz. If the Ubuntu 23.04 software development team in charge of the X.org display could rectify the issue regarding the stability of my "primary display" at 1080p@60Hz during "power suspend" and "power on", that would be great. Thanks! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2008541] [NEW] very high power draw from battery when watching videos
Public bug reported: when I watch a video in fullscreen, my laptop can draw as many as 25w. For comparaison, on windows 11, a similar video will take only 8w from the battery. obviously, the cpu temps and fan speed are much higher on ubuntu tan on windows. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2006370] Re: Terribly flicking and blicking HDMI-port display
PPS: I have Ubuntu 22.04 (the same version) on my Acer Aspire 3 A315-21G-63YM [very old notebook of about 5-6 years old]; I tried several times to connect this notebook to the same monitor with the same scheme - it works perfectly (I did not try screenshots, because the picture there is perfect). But I still am a rare user of Ubuntu, because I need powerful computers (like this HP Gaming Pavilion) for my operations, and I can't do them on just one monitor in quite OK computers, and I can't do this on two monitors with a relatively slow computer like Acer Aspire 3. It means, it is some driver issue [that Ubuntu has problems with the inbuilt drivers, but not 100% sure in this]. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2006370 Title: Terribly flicking and blicking HDMI-port display To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/2006370/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2006370] [NEW] Terribly flicking and blicking HDMI-port display
Public bug reported: Hi, I have HP15 Gaming Pavilion bought 2-3 years ago. I had Windows 10 before (not it is the second OS due to this bug [I can't use Ubuntu with this bug]), and Win 10 has no problems. No solution [that I found over the internet] worked. I have to have at least two displays. My connection technology: PC HDMI output -> HDMI-VGA(+audio) transmitter -> LED 20' Display (external monitor) Win 10 have never had any problems with it (it has good drivers). When I add any input to the second screen - it blinks and flickers so terrible that I can see nothing - a white screen problem. If I do nothing - it will turn to some picture in some time, but if I make any action at the second monitor - flickering and the white screen problem appears again. I think these are drivers. I tested the equipment in Win 10 after I found this bug - and it works perfectly (so, the hardware is good). It is a typical notebook and this bug is crucial. I use two monitors to type codes and work on PC. I can't survive with just one monitor. Right now when I am typing you this message the second monitor became white again for quite a long time (I did nothing there). I hope you will be able to fix this bug :) Best wishes, Alex, Prague, Czech Republic, EU PS: When typing this message I found another bug compared to MS Windows. When making screenshots (Alt/Shift + Print Screen) - it makes perfect picture even when you actually have the second monitor white all the time (so the screenshot is not how it is). I made an actual photo (and deleted some parts of the background not related to the monitors/computer). You can see a white screen, but the screenshot shows a "perfect world" with a perfect picture which is not how it is on the screen. Windows, on the contrary, makes actual screenshots. And Win 10 test of this monitor never have this white screen or any other monitor problems. Moreover, when the monitors stops to be white for a second it depicts different picture (more terrible image; it is disproportional, with font heavily readable, but the screenshot functions shows an "ideal world" a user can never see :) I made this detailed description to help Ubuntu. I think the project is great in concept, but poor in realization. Such bugs make it impossible for users to use Ubuntu (who can work on just one monitor? Who do not wish to make screenshots with what he/she actually sees on the monitor [rather than modified images with the pictures users do not actually see]?). Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1968397]
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it. Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally, in the report please include: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -> About Ubuntu. 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by checking in Synaptic. 3) What happened and what you expected to happen. The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures . Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make your bug report much more complete. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1968397] Re: bootloader
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read 'How to report bugs effectively' http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1909334] Re: bug
I afraid we can not just trust (EDID_version >= 1.4 && EDID_supports_10bit). Because this issue caused by any problematic component in the middle of pipeline. To ensure the compatibility, better to just defautly set bpc=8. Think of one scenario, a speaker get his Ubuntu machine onto stage, plug the HDMI or DP projector which works well on latest speaker who is using Windows machine. Then, he get dark screen or audio function lost I guess the Ubuntu user might not aware it's caused by bpc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1890772] Re: No signal on 4K 60Hz DisplayPort monitor by default, until "max bpc" is lowered to 8
I think different from #32. To adding a GUI configure bpc is a long-term plan. Before that, the default behavior should be designed to get the best user experience. As we all know, there're lot of hardware components on the pipline of display path(e.g. socket, converter, dongle, cable, monitor) With any lower quality component on the pipeline, dark screen or function lost is not acceptable. It should be better to provide lower default bpc than dark user's screen. Afterall, user can adjust the bpc by command in short-term or by UI in long-term plan. But if we just dark user's screen, user mostly thinks the hardware is broken or Ubuntu provides poor compatibility(if they compare the same component to Windows). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890772 Title: No signal on 4K 60Hz DisplayPort monitor by default, until "max bpc" is lowered to 8 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1890772/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1782984] Re: Assertion `!xcb_xlib_threads_sequence_lost' failed with multiple applications
I would like to add some info that may help to narrow the problem. I have had this crash in PCManFM since i upgraded ubuntu from 16.04 to 18.04 but the same bug manifest in Geany and Chromium as well. The bug could hit PCManFM within a few clicks opening directories and then clicking on a file or can take hours to show up. In the case of Chromium it usually hit at the launch of the browser. I rebuilt the LibX11 with the supposedly fix mentioned by Tycho Kircher and apparently this has not fixed the problem but the crash is now without the Assertion `!xcb_xlib_threads_sequence_lost' failed. I installed only these packages: * libx11-xcb1_1.6.4-3ubuntu0.2_amd64.deb * libx11-xcb-dev_1.6.4-3ubuntu0.2_amd64.deb lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1844934] [NEW] screen jitter after long idle
Public bug reported: It's 1st time happens on my xps13 9380 with bionic + oem kernel 4.15.0-1056-oem. I have updated to 1056 from 1050 for several days, this issue not happens for these days and not experienced it on 1050 as well. So, looks it's just randomly happens or I can not find a static way to reproduce it. I also not sure if unattended upgrade bring in some regression. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1839008] [NEW] Extra mouse cursor fixed on screen
Public bug reported: Inevitably the mouse cursor will become fixated on screen at the position it was when the screen was unlocked. When I switch TTY and come back the lock screen will change and I'll be able to move the fixed mouse cursor to a new location. Only fix is to restart the computer and the bug is guaranteed to recur. I am able to move the active cursor around the screen but there is a persistent one that I am unable to interact with. not see much fishy message in kerne.log, the only message around the time of issue happened is: " Jul 24 01:25:24 u-XPS-13-9380 kernel: [ 2201.963876] [drm] Reducing the compressed framebuffer size. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1837683] Re: Screen stops updating after about 8 hours - (EE) modeset(0): present flip failed
1. When the problem is happening, does the kernel log show any problems? (run: dmesg) When the problem is happening, the screen is black, so no easy to type command. I can try ssh before reproducing, but might not soon, I need to handover this machine to another guy today. Before that, can you get message you need in syslog? or I can upload kern.log for your reference. 2. When the problem is happening, what do you get from running these commands? ls -l /proc/`pidof Xorg`/fd | wc -l ls -l /proc/`pidof Xorg`/fd When the problem is happening, the screen is black, so no easy to type command. I can try ssh before reproducing, but might not soon, I need to handover this machine to another guy today. Is there other way to get information you need in next boot? So that I can provide more on current environment that next boot of issue happened. 3. When the problem is happening, what do you get from: ps auxw | grep Xorg Same response as 2. 4. Please try the same test with "Ubuntu on Wayland" and tell us if it has the same bug. This would be my lower priory, the target of my testing is to make sure end user's experience on LTS. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1742711] Re: MIR: vulkan-loader
I reviewed vulkan-loader version 1.1.101.0-2_amd64 as checked into disco. This shouldn't be considered a full security audit but rather a quick check of maintainability. - No CVE history in our database - vulkan-loader provides support for loading the main vulkan library, handling layer and driver management including multi-gpu support to dispatch API calls to the correct driver and layer. - Depends: debhelper, cmake, googletest, libwayland-dev, libx11-dev, libxcb1-dev, libxrandr-dev, pkg-config, python3 - Does not itself do networking - No cryptography - Does not daemonize - No pre/post inst/rm - No init scripts - No dbus services - No setuid files - No binaries in the PATH - No sudo fragments - No udev rules - A test suite is run during the build (as noted in the log, 23 of the tests fail due to missing vulkan driver but as this is expected this is not a concern) - No cron jobs - 3 warnings in build logs about memory allocation functions which declare as returning void * but are used for functions which expect an unsigned long * return value - these can safely be ignored - No cppcheck warnings - No subprocesses spawned - Memory management is very careful in general, however I noticed that the loader allocates a buffer on stack for reading in ICD JSON descriptions - this uses the length of the JSON file as the length of the buffer to allocate and since these files can be user controlled it could be relatively easily exploited by dropping a very large JSON file to overrun the stack (since uses alloca() internally which has undefined behaviour if stack is overflown) - this might be worth investigating further but is really only a denial of service issue so not a high priority and no chance of privilege escalation etc - Otherwise most memory management is quite careful, allocation return values are checked for failure, buffer lengths are checked, string lengths are checked and handled correctly etc. - Does not itself do file IO beyond reading JSON as described above - Logging is careful - Uses the following environment variables: - VK_LOADER_DISABLE_INST_EXT_FILTER - VK_LOADER_DEBUG - XDG_CONFIG_DIRS - XDG_DATA_DIRS - XDG_DATA_HOME - HOME - No privileged code sections - No privileged functions - No networking - No temp files - No WebKit - No PolKit Security team ACK for promoting vulkan-loader to main for disco. ** Changed in: vulkan-loader (Ubuntu) Assignee: Ubuntu Security Team (ubuntu-security) => (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to vulkan-loader in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1742711 Title: MIR: vulkan-loader To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vulkan-loader/+bug/1742711/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1778011] Re: SRU: PRIME Power Saving mode draws too much power
With kernel 4.18 and 410.104 drivers, it seems to work properly for me. Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS on a Dell Inspiron Gaming 7000 with nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, Gnome. I am here because a couple patches ago, I lost ability to resume from sleep. Opening the lid, it would just hang in black screen, requiring hold of power button +5 sec to turn off. I tried the blacklist-nouveau and bbswitch-dkms tricks, no difference. On top of that configuration, I upgraded to kernel 4.18, still no difference. I found a repo for drivers > 390, http://ppa.launchpad.net/graphics- drivers/ppa/ubuntu I reverted previous changes, uninstalled bbswitch-dkms, and eventually got drivers, libs and nvidia-* packages for version 410.104 installed properly. Fixed. I can once again close the lid, the laptop sleeps; open the lid, the laptop wakes and gives the beaver login screen. Awesome. Public bug reported: Hi, Recently, I installed Ubuntu 18.04 on my Dell G7 7588. From day one, the system has random freezes/crashes (usually a few a day) The way the crashes manifest is that 2 out of my 3 monitors go black and in some cases sound and inputs get stuck. In some rare cases, I can continue to operate on one of the screens. I checked syslog and dmesg, and usually I don't see any messages at the time of the crash, except this one time that input did not freeze and I could run a dmesg. In that case I got this message: Feb 13 15:34:51 morningstar kernel: [ 1593.615704] [drm:gen8_de_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* Fault errors on pipe B: 0x0080 Feb 13 15:34:51 morningstar kernel: [ 1593.615999] [drm:intel_cpu_fifo_underrun_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* CPU pipe B FIFO underrun Additionally, this message appears on dmesg fairly often: ... Feb 13 15:21:17 morningstar kernel: [ 780.324457] CPU6: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 109) Feb 13 15:21:17 morningstar kernel: [ 780.324457] CPU0: Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled (total events = 109) ... I tried to solve this issue on my own for a while now, without success, here are some of the things I tried: - Updated BIOS to latest version - Installed nvidia 415 graphic drivers - Tested using xwayland - Tried 4.15.0-45-48, 4.19.16 and 4.19.20 kernels (this last one generates problems with the graphic drivers, and does not solve the problem either. - Tried modifying power management profile on the BIOS. - Added splash acpi_rev_override=1 to /etc/default/grub as found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/63cavx/fixed_nvidia_1050_freezing_in_ubuntu_linux/ - Ran dell diagnostic tools (no errors there) So far none of this things solved the issue. These error messages are the only noticeable things I could find to debug... Can someone help me find a fix or workaround the issue? I've been spending multiple days trying to solve this and I am not making any real progress Please let me know if you need me to submit more information to find the cause of the issue ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu7.1 Uname: Linux 4.19.16-041916-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_drm nvidia_modeset nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus..01.00.0: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/:01:00.0' .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: "" .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 415.27 Thu Dec 20 17:25:03 CST 2018 GCC version: gcc version 7.3.0 (Ubuntu 7.3.0-27ubuntu1~18.04) ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.5 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None Date: Wed Feb 13 15:51:17 2019 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: bionic DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: nvidia, 415.27, 4.15.0-45-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 5.2.18, 4.15.0-44-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 5.2.18, 4.15.0-45-generic, x86_64: installed virtualbox, 5.2.18, 4.19.16-041916-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GpuHangFrequency: Several times a day GpuHangReproducibility: Seems to happen randomly GpuHangStarted: Immediately after installing this version of Ubuntu GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Device [8086:3e9b] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:0825] NVIDIA Corporation GP106M [GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile] [10de:1c20] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Dell GP106M [GeForce GTX 1060 Mobile] [1028:0825] InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-11-30 (75 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180725) MachineType: Dell Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1785964] Re: Unable to unlock the desktop session: systemd-logind: got pause for 13:69
Thanks Diego for the information, I also got the feeling that the bug is linked to logind waiting for something from the network or usb (not sure). I also wanted to add that this bug cause another annoyance : while I plug a USB storage key in, the system is blocked for a while : I can move the mouse, or change console, but I cannot click, change window, scroll, change workspace… until few minutes (duration vary). In syslog I got the same message as for the lock screen : systemd got paused for …. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1785964 Title: Unable to unlock the desktop session: systemd-logind: got pause for 13:69 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1785964/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1785964] Re: Unable to unlock the desktop session: systemd-logind: got pause for 13:69
I got the issue, today while using sudo (to use bindfs), just after I typed my password, whole gnome got blocked (the mouse cursor moving but without changing shape and being unable to type, neither have any action on any window or program), but I could log in a new tty console. Note also that this was during an internet downtime. I attach the syslog around this time. ** Attachment added: "syslog-after-sudo.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1785964/+attachment/5216720/+files/syslog-after-sudo.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1785964 Title: Unable to unlock the desktop session: systemd-logind: got pause for 13:69 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1785964/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
