[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1743094] Re: [regression] hibernation (freezes on resume) since 4.13.0-25.29

2018-06-06 Thread Hans Hansen
Update to #138:

My problem seems to be related to Bug #1752053 and Bug #1773113. And for
me now everything more or less works again by using this workaround from
Bug #1752053 posting #123:

-snip
I found a silly workaround (after trying many many other suggestions / driver
re-installs), now using nvidia-driver-396 or nvidia-driver-390; create (if not
exists) a file /etc/rc.local, with this content:

#!/bin/bash

sleep 1

exit 0

And make it executable: chmod 755 /etc/rc.local
-snip

Maybe this helps some people.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1743094] Re: [regression] hibernation (freezes on resume) since 4.13.0-25.29

2018-05-30 Thread Hans Hansen
I have a variant of this problem that I can not find anywhere else:

I have the same problem of black screen (white cursor not blinking in
the left upper corner) when I do a lock screen!

Suspend problem is also present. Computer goes down correctly after
pressing suspend, but when it is supposed to wake up, I get the above
described screen (NO splash screen, NO message from grub).

I am not sure if I should open a new bug for this

Kernel: 4.15.0-22
OS: Xubuntu bionic
PC: Lenovo P51
GDriver: NVidia proprietry, Lenovo BIOS already set to NOT use CPU internal
graphics

Happy to provide further infos if anybody is interested.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1757195] Re: Xwayland crashed with SIGABRT

2018-03-20 Thread Jordan Hansen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1754693 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1754693

bug #1754693 is private so I can't follow the status or workarounds to
try. Is there a public version of that bug I can follow?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1193686] Re: Sticky keys doesn't react to mouse buttons

2015-07-01 Thread Thomas Hansen
Latest information:

14.04 didn't fix the issue either, but I just upgraded to 15.04, and now
it's back to the correct 12.04 behavior. Sadly I didn't check 12.10.

Might regress yet again, but I'm happy for the moment being.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1386415] [NEW] ubuntu 14.04 booting into tty1 - stuck there

2014-10-27 Thread Erling Hansen
Public bug reported:

When booting into rescue mode, everything works excellent. If I try to boot
into normal ubuntu, I am stuck in tty1. Nothing works here, and I have to
make a brutal restart of the PC.
I have of course tryed all combinations like ctrl+alt+Fx etc. No way to eacape
except for the brutal restart.
So far I have not found any usefull tricks on the web, and by now I think i
have tried everything.
What happened to the kernel or the upstart procedure from 13.10 to 14.04?
As far as I can se, I am not alone with this problem.
Regards Erling

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1338521] [NEW] [xorg-edgers] nvidia-settings-340.17 missing registry key file

2014-07-07 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
Public bug reported:

Running nvidia-settings currently gives the following error:

ERROR: nvidia-settings could not find the registry key file. This file should
have been installed along with this driver at either
/usr/share/nvidia/nvidia-application-profiles-340.17-key-documentation or
   /usr/share/nvidia/nvidia-application-profiles-key-documentation. The
application profiles will continue to work, but values cannot be preopulated or
validated, and will not be listed in the help text.
Please see the README for possible values and descriptions.

Seems like the file is missing in the package.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 659793] Re: xserver-xephyr: Couldn't find keyboard driver evdev

2014-02-14 Thread Richard Hansen
Are the --enable-kdrive-mouse and --enable-kdrive-kbd arguments
necessary? They seem unrelated to the specific symptomps originally
reported, and according to https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=646686#12 they may have issues. From that bug
comment:

On Wed 2013-03-27T14:20:34+0100 Geert Uytterhoeven ge...@linux-m68k.org wrote:
  - I did not enable kdrive-kbd, as it's completely broken.
Since it no longer fills in KdKeyboardInfo.minScanCode and
KdKeyboardInfo.maxScanCode, any keypress causes messages like:

driver Linux console keyboard wanted to post scancode x outside of [0, 0]!

  - kdrive-mouse still works (e.g. -mouse ps2, or -mouse mouse for
protocol probing, which takes some time), but the recommended way
these days is kbd-evdev, using the following (ugly) command line
parameters:

   -keybd evdev,,device=/dev/input/event0
   -mouse evdev,,device=/dev/input/event1

It seems like just adding --enable-kdrive-evdev would be sufficient and
safer, no?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1193686] Re: Sticky keys doesn't react to mouse buttons

2014-01-15 Thread Thomas Hansen
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected regression reproducible trusty

** Description changed:

  To reproduce:

  1. Open Universal Access and activate Sticky keys under the Typing tab.
  2. Open a terminal. Press and release shift, then press A twice. Observe
that the First A gets capitalized, and the second doesn't. In other words the
shift stuck until the first A was pressed, then disabled. That's the expected
behavior.
  3. Press and release Alt. Observe that dragging inside the terminal moves the
window as Alt+mouse drag moves windows. Release the mouse button and drag
again...

  What does happen:

  It still moves the window.

  What should happen:
It should drag out a selection in the terminal, just as is normal for
dragging in a terminal without any modifiers.

The first mouse button release should cancel the stickyness of the Alt
key, just as a keyrelease would do.

  History:
I've seen the this bug in previous Ubuntu releases, and I'm not the only one
as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/415685
attests. I'm sure it started out working correctly when I started using
stickykeys, then having the current faulty behavior, get fixed and then regress
again now. I'm not sure about the exact releases, but I'm absolutely positive
that it worked correctly in 12.04.

I have 2 different laptops that had it working in 12.04 and both have
the current bug in 13.04. Sadly I upgraded both directly from 12.04 to
12.10 to 13.04, so I didn't notice whether the problem exists in 12.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1193686] Re: Sticky keys doesn't react to mouse buttons

2014-01-15 Thread Thomas Hansen
I cannot see how a BIOS update can be relevant.

I probably didn't make it absolutely clear, but I saw this issue regress
between 12.04 and 13.04 not only on this Dell XPS 13, but also on a
Lenovo X410s, two entirely different laptops. I got a new workstation at
the time, and decided on testing the new 13.04 on the old laptop before
attempting to upgrade the 12.04 that the XPS shipped with. I find it
highly unlikely that both should have the same bug in entirely different
BIOS'es.

I have installed 14.04 dev image (amd64) to a virtualbox install on the
hardware that had the issue. The install was successful and the command
was executed.

Please let me know if this is what you were looking for. (I do not want to
install the dev version on the hardware at the moment.)

glenn opdycke-hansen, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal

Thanks for your reply. Then would it be OK if the test consist of a new
install of the dev 14.04 image that is separate from the existing
installation?

 ** Description changed:

After the upgrade of ubuntu to 13.10 there were multiple problems.
There was a message that the swap was not ready. (i believe that the swap
was encrypted during the original install.) I followed instructions to
change the swap so it was not encrypted. Then the boot would display no
signal on the reboot. I followed instructions to change the grub
settings/params from quiet splash to nomodeset.
Now the system settings cannot detect the monitor (monitor is Acer
 S211HL)

   WORKAROUND: Install fglrx.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1228095] Re: Enable default options for non-seat0 seats (no need of systemd-multi-seat-x wrapper)

2013-10-23 Thread Richard Hansen
Thanks Laércio for uploading a thoroughly patched xorg-server to
ppa:lbssousa/multiseat! I haven't tried it, but I examined the changes
and they look good. I'll see if I can backport the patches to raring
tonight and upload the result to ppa:ubuntu-multiseat/ppa.

Has the MatchSeat patch been merged to master in the upstream xorg
repository?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1242193] [NEW] Xorg freeze no signal on display after upgrade to 13.10

2013-10-19 Thread glenn opdycke-hansen
Public bug reported:

After the upgrade of ubuntu to 13.10 there were multiple problems. There was a
message that the swap was not ready. (i believe that the swap was encrypted
during the original install.) I followed instructions to change the swap so it
was not encrypted. Then the boot would display no signal on the reboot. I
followed instructions to change the grub settings/params from quiet splash to
nomodeset.
Now the system settings cannot detect the monitor (monitor is Acer S211HL)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1193686] [NEW] Sticky keys doesn't react to mouse buttons

2013-06-22 Thread Thomas Hansen
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

1. Open Universal Access and activate Sticky keys under the Typing tab.
2. Open a terminal. Press and release shift, then press A twice. Observe that
the First A gets capitalized, and the second doesn't. In other words the shift
stuck until the first A was pressed, then disabled. That's the expected
behavior.
3. Press and release Alt. Observe that dragging inside the terminal moves the
window as Alt+mouse drag moves windows. Release the mouse button and drag
again...

What does happen:

It still moves the window.

What should happen:
It should drag out a selection in the terminal, just as is normal for dragging
in a terminal without any modifiers.

The first mouse button release should cancel the stickyness of the Alt
key, just as a keyrelease would do.

History:
I've seen the this bug in previous Ubuntu releases, and I'm not the only one as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/415685

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1069574] Re: Intel graphics card driver update causes black screen

2012-10-25 Thread Travis Glenn Hansen
I don't personally own this laptop, but I just finished helping a
relative and here is what I've found.

1. In his setup it's a kernel update, using the older kernel works. Can you do
the same? (3.2.0-24-generic vs. 3.2.0-32-generic)
2. It appears to be the exact same issue with 12.10. He can't even boot to a
12.10 install media.

I will attach the 2 dmesg from both kernels.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987153] Re: Xorg freeze

2012-08-05 Thread Hansen
@kenorb
Thanks for looking into this bug.
I have read through the bugs you suggested.
for 966744 My bug does not relate to suspend if i suspend with ATI proprietary
driver installed the computer locks up completely.
As for 988008 it is only sometimes that the mouse cursor are able to move, most
times the computer just freezes.
In 1007904 i'm on kernel 3.2.0-27 and still have freezes.

Are there anything i can do to to help getting this bug fixed?

Thank you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 772873] Re: Vino does not work with compositing

2012-06-28 Thread Craig Hansen
I'm using the Tear Free option at the moment, but screen refresh is
terribly slow, even when used over a LAN. It appears to be refreshing
entire screens at a time, which is what I presume the noxdamage setting
also does. Yes, it works but its really so slow as to be completely
unusable unless you are truly desperate.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987153] Re: Xorg freeze

2012-05-10 Thread Hansen
Hi Ildefonso Camargo.
Sorry not to have replied earlier.
To me this bug has been going through 11.10 on to 12.04, it started after one
of the upgrades of Catalyst Centre, (I think around 12.1). Now i have tried
with the proprietary drive offered in Jockey and it's still locking up 2-3
times a day.
I have not been able to determine what causes the lockups, but if I un-install
the proprietary drive and uses the opensource Radeon drive the lockups stops.
Are your using a E-450 with Radeon HD 6320 ?
