[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2008053] [NEW] Screen corruption and laggy mouse cursor in lower quarter of screen

2023-02-22 Thread Markus Konrad
Public bug reported:

After a software upgrade yesterday, I see screen glitches and a
"stumbling" mouse cursor whenever I move the mouse in the lower quarter
of my laptop screen. When I have connected an external display, the
external display doesn't show any issues, but the problem remains on the
laptop screen.

(This is my first bug report and I used the "ubuntu-bug" utility to
collect the necessary data. I hope it is attached here somewhere.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2000739] Re: Window actions (like maximize) no more work in wayland for QEMU using GTK backend once the guest UI is intialized.

2023-01-09 Thread Markus S
Thank you very much Christian for the confirmation (upstream as well)
and your further analysis of the issue. Your comment #12 (qemu-
system-x86_64 -display gtk) is also reflected in my observation in
comment #7.

I also appreciate your GDK_BACKEND=x11 ... workaround.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1999852] Re: xserver-xorg-core_21.1.3-2ubuntu2.5 segfaults

2022-12-20 Thread Markus

I didnt say you can skip the check for xf86ModeVRefresh returning 0.

The two bug reports may report two different bugs, triggered by different
inputs.
(So maybe both checks are neccessary, but I cannot speak for #1999008, because
I dont face that specific behaviour.)

2022-12-20 Thread Markus
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1999008 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1999008

Its related to the same patch, but not sure it will solve this issue.
The linked upstream MR checks for xf86ModeVRefresh returning 0 but still fails
for me.
(The problem is not xf86ModeVRefresh returning 0 and then dividing by 0 and
SIGABRT, but calling it with a NULL pointer and SIGSEGV.)

Is the new patch available for me to test?

2022-12-19 Thread Markus
The problem is "preferred" being accessed unconditionally.
All the other usages are covered by a check of "preferred", so I added it.
Now it works again.

Chia-Lin Kao (AceLan) should double check, as it is his patch.
Commented in his upstream MR:

2022-12-18 Thread Markus
Did some manual builds:
build xserver-xorg-core_21.1.3-2ubuntu2.5 as installed => it segfaults
removed all patches that were added 2.3 => worked

bisecting ended with the bad patch being re-calculate-the-clock-and-
refresh-rate.diff.

Verified with xserver-xorg-core_21.1.3-2ubuntu2.5 and only disabled that
patch => worked

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1999852] [NEW] xserver-xorg-core_21.1.3-2ubuntu2.5 segfaults

2022-12-15 Thread Markus
Public bug reported:

Running xserver-xorg-core_21.1.3-2ubuntu2.3_amd64.deb was fine.
Since the recent update to xserver-xorg-core_21.1.3-2ubuntu2.5_amd64.deb Xorg
always segfaults at startup.
Going back to xserver-xorg-core_21.1.3-2ubuntu2.3_amd64.deb works again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1923075] [NEW] Unmaximizing a window by dragging is buggy

2021-04-08 Thread Markus Ilmola
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 21.04 beta (using the wayland session) when unmaximizing a
window by dragging it off from the top bar at least two bugs happen
randomly.

1. The window might not unmaximize at all but keeps it's maximized size.
2. The unmaximize animation does not play correctly (only "slides" but does not
"scale").

Note that unmaximizing by using the maximize button or alt+f10 works correctly.
Also X applications such as xterm unmaximize correctly when dragged off from
the top bar.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1811863] Re: [amdgpu + nvidia PCI passthrough] Screen flickering on ultra wide

2019-03-19 Thread Markus Strenn
I have the flickering problem with 2560x1440 screens, AMD Radeon RX 550.
tried it on two screens: asus and samsung. asus is capable of freesync, samsung
not. asus can handle higher frequency, samsung 50Hz only.

On samsung it works without any problems. On asus monitor I have the
same flickering problem on 75Hz, switching down to 60Hz solves the
problem.

I'm on Ubuntu 18.10, kernel 4.18.0-16. - with very intense flickering.
Upgraded to 5.0.2 kernel manually, seems like flickering is a little bit better.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 556653] Re: build fails in chrooted system

2018-06-08 Thread Markus Lindberg
To add to #14 comment, a file in /var/lib/initramfs-tools also gets
generated if the host kernel differs from the chroot environments
kernel.

In my case I'm running a Debian system with the 4.9.0-6-amd64 kernel and
a Ubuntu (Xenial) chroot environment with the 4.4.0-127-generic kernel.
When installing the nvidia-384 package inside the chroot environment the
/var/lib/initramfs-tools/4.9.0-6-amd64 file gets generated.

# ls -l /initrd.img
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 Apr  5 11:31 /initrd.img ->
boot/initrd.img-4.9.0-6-amd64
# ls -l /target/initrd.img
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 33 Jun  8 23:03 /target/initrd.img ->
boot/initrd.img-4.4.0-127-generic
# ls -l /target/var/lib/initramfs-tools/
total 8
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 77 Jun 8 23:06 4.4.0-127-generic
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 73 Jun 8 23:08 4.9.0-6-amd64

(/target is the chroot environment)

The /var/lib/initramfs-tools/4.9.0-6-amd64 file is dangerous since
update-initramfs will think that it's a valid existing kernel and
produce errors as the following that will prevent updating the initrd in
the future.

# chroot /target
sh-4.3# update-initramfs -u
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.9.0-6-amd64

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1772537] [NEW] Wrong combining sequence in Compose for the Finnish locale

2018-05-21 Thread Miikka-Markus Alhonen
Public bug reported:

The Compose file for the fi_FI.UTF-8 locale at
/usr/share/X11/locale/fi_FI.UTF-8/Compose contains the following lines:

: "Ệ" U1EC6 # LATIN CAPITAL LETTER
E WITH CIRCUMFLEX AND ACUTE
 : "Ệ" U1EC6 # LATIN CAPITAL LETTER
E WITH CIRCUMFLEX AND DOT BELOW

Thus the codepoint "Ệ" U1EC6 is produced with two different sequences.
Based on the key sequences and the comments at the ends of the lines, it
is clear that the first line is a mistake. Instead of "Ệ" U1EC6, the
line should read "Ế" U1EBE, a character which cannot be produced with
the current Compose file otherwise at all.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1765189] [NEW] Partial User Interface freeze

2018-04-18 Thread Markus Haider
Public bug reported:

I have a Dell Precision 5520 and experience the following problem: After
a resume from suspend, I have problems with my keyboard and touchpad: At
the password screen everything is working fine, I can click on the
password field and enter my password. Then when the screen is unlocked,
I can move the mouse cursor, and clicks on the top menu, e.g. on the
network button or the shutdown button work perfectly, but a click on an
open window like a terminal or on firefox does not give focus to the
window and I cannot write into the terminal. Also, shortcuts like the
Windows key or Windows+tab key are not working. I can only solve this by
rebooting.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1464514] [NEW] xrandr 1.4.1 doesn't set external display position correctly when using --right-of to scaled laptop display

2015-06-12 Thread Markus Paaso
Public bug reported:

I have 15 laptop with 3840x2160 display resolution and external monitor
with 2560x1440 resolution.

Expected:
I want to scale laptop screen (DP-4) resolution with 0.5x0.5 and set the
external display (DP-6) to right of the laptop display.
So I would like to have laptop display with resolution 1920x1080 and position
0x0 and external display with resolution 2560x1440 and position 1920x0

Happened:
When I use command: xrandr --output DP-4 --auto --scale 0.5x0.5 --output DP-6
--auto --right-of DP-4
the result is:

   800x60075.0 72.2 60.3 56.2
   640x48075.0 72.8 59.9

So the external display position is set to 3840x0 instead of expected
1920x0.

$ xrandr -v
xrandr program version 1.4.1
Server reports RandR version 1.4

When I try command: xrandr --output DP-4 --auto --scale 0.5x0.5 --output DP-6
--auto --pos 1920x0
the external monitor is disabled and the output of the command is:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 7 (RRSetScreenSize)
Serial number of failed request: 47
Current serial number in output stream: 49

Only way I have found to place screens correctly is to use NVIDIA X Server
Settings app.
After that command xrandr gives the expected info:

Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 4480 x 1440, maximum 16384 x 16384

But I don't want to use NVIDIA X Server Settings each time to set the
display positions.

My laptop is Dell Precision M4800 with Nvidia Quadro K2100M and HiDPI screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1437807] Re: Suspend/resume fails with SNA acceleration on some WMs

2015-04-04 Thread Markus Kohli
Somehow the bug doesn't seem to affect kernel 4.0 (rc6)
I just installed that and now suspend/resume works like a charm.

Looks like it's a combination of components that causes this erratic
behaviour.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1437807] Re: Suspend/resume fails with SNA acceleration on some WMs

2015-03-31 Thread Markus Kohli
Same on my XPS-13 9343 with i7-5500U and identical graphics card.

I tried xorg-edgers, but no improvement (xorg-video-intel is version 2.99.917
there), it shows the same behaviour.
Workaround with UXA is possible, but performance is abysmal, so no real
solution.

This bug seems to be same as:

Place the external monitor on the left side and laptop monitor on the right.
This way the laptop monitor with invalid width won't miss align the picture

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273652] Re: apply of multi-monitor setting results in crash

2014-03-23 Thread Markus J Schmidt
After upgrading to xubuntu 14.04 the bug is still present. I still get
the following error:

ERROR: Error querying target relations

The program 'nvidia-settings' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 740 error_code 2 request_code 158 minor_code 25)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

smiddy@3000-N200:~$

The line with the ERROR:... comes up when launching the program, while
the other lines come up when clicking on apply . I tried the command
nvidia-settings --- sync, but the result was identical.

I attached my xsession-errors as well.

Yes apport is configured correctly I tried the test with sh -c 'kill

There is no crash occuring when I hit apply. It seems the program is
simply closing.

I tried to use to old version 304.88-0ubuntu0.0.2 but could not change
the monitors.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1178263] Re: [ivb mesa] blorp death

2013-05-15 Thread Markus Grobelin
Hello,

yesterday I received xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.21.6+git20130514 for
quantal branch, which is used by Mint 14. Raring packages seemed to be
released earlier, which explains why I couldn't see the updates.

Apart from this: SNA acceleration is working again with this version.

Thank you!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1178263] [NEW] SNA acceleration broken on IvyBride - error GPU hung

2013-05-09 Thread Markus Grobelin
Public bug reported:

Hello,

SNA acceleration doesn't work for my systems HD4000 on an i5-3570K
anymore. UXA is ok.

Fail-Message from dmesg:
[ 17.395515] [drm:i915_hangcheck_hung] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU
hung
[ 17.395544] [drm] capturing error event; look for more information in
/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state

... screen goes black then.

System is running Linux Mint 14 Nadia with xorg-edgers ppa. SNA worked
pretty stable until two weeks ago.

I'm quite sure this change introduced the error:

bash -c sleep 2; compiz --replace

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755433] [NEW] [Natty beta1] Nvidia tvout has problems with fullscreen (270.30)

2011-04-09 Thread markus haider
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu Natty beta1 with the proprietary nvidia-drivers 270.30
which I installed over the additional drivers menu. I have a tv on the
second output and configured it as seperate xscreen in the nvidia
xserver settings. On 10.10 I did exactly the same and used to play
videos with commands like DISPLAY=:0.1 mplayer -fs video.avi and the
video was in fullscreen on my tv. However, now in natty the fullscreen
command does not work any more and I have a video centered in the middle
of my tv (without window borders) and the wallpaper around it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 729110] [NEW] mouse button mapping gets reset at random intervals

2011-03-04 Thread Markus Birth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xinput

I have an Evoluent VerticalMouse and mapped the buttons a bit different
using the following command:

  /usr/bin/xinput set-button-map 12 1 9 2 4 5 6 7 3 8

Every once in a while, the button mapping is reset to default. This
happens from once every few days to several times in an hour. I always
have the same applications open and my machine isn't going to suspend or
something like that. It often happens while actively using the computer.

My xorg.conf only reads the lines neccessary for fglrx:

Section Screen
Identifier Default Screen
DefaultDepth24
EndSection

Section Module
Loadglx
EndSection

Section Device
Identifier Default Device
Driver fglrx

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 673402] [NEW] System unresponsive few minutes after boot

2010-11-10 Thread Markus Petersen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I did a fresh install of 10.10 when it came out, and this began. I never
had this problem with 10.04.

The problem is, when booting (either cold booting or waking from
standby), the system works fine for some time, usually from 5 to 20
minutes. Then, the mouse pointer starts lagging at best, and is almost
unmovable at worst (I can move the physical mouse, and the pointer
responds with tiny movements 15 seconds later). It's not just the mouse
pointer, I cannot switch applications, scroll in the browser, open new
applications etc. It doesn't totally freeze, it's just awfully slow and
unusable.

It's as if the system is under very, very heavy load. This goes on for
1-5 minutes, after which everything is back to normal. At _every_ boot.

I have no idea if this is X-related, or something entirely else. I have
tried to have the htop program run in the background, but I see no
process with heavy load.

Help would be appreciated. :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 587037] [NEW] Probable mode switching problems with radeon driver and X300 PCIE chip

2010-05-28 Thread Markus Naeher
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

My problem has two symptoms and it occurs since I am running Lucid Lynx.
Up to Karmic, it was fine.

Symptom 1:

When trying to switch to the TTYs using Ctrl-Alt-F1..F6, seemingly nothing
happens except that the keyboard and mouse are disconnected from the X server.
After Alt-F7, they are connected again. Bu the X server always stays on screen.

This happens on the installed system as well as on the live system
started from the Desktop CD's (I tried Ubuntu and Kubuntu).

Symptom 2:

After logging off of my KDE session and logging back on, the desktop effects
are gone and cann not be reactivated until the computer is shut down and
started again.
Even restarting without power off does not help.

I don't know if the presence of the unused NVIDIA 8200 graphics adapter
matters. But as it is on-board, I cannot remove it.
It is unused because this special graphics chip is known to cause lots of
trouble with Linux.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494699] Re: Does not support current Lucid kernel (2.6.32) or xserver (1.7)

2010-03-20 Thread Markus Birth
@SolidSlash #21: I guess you have the same problem as I had: fglrx
conflicts with the radeon kernel module. You have to add nomodeset
or radeon.setmode=0 to your kernel options, i.e. get into GRUB, edit
the parameters for recovery mode and add it manually to the kernel line.
After getting into a root console, add the parameters to the
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT variable in /etc/default/grub . After that,
run update-grub and reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 494699] Re: Does not support current Lucid kernel (2.6.32) or xserver (1.7)

2010-03-19 Thread Markus Birth
The 2:8.721-0ubuntu2 package for amd64 is missing the
/usr/lib/fglrx/ld.so.conf and thus it doesn't configure correctly. You
can fix this for now by creating that file with the contents
/usr/lib/fglrx (without quotes) and then doing a dpkg --configure
-a. Worked fine for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 519550] [NEW] Black screen after upgrade from 9.04

2010-02-09 Thread Markus Fischer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

After upgrading to 10.04 alpha 2 just an hour ago, the system is
inaccessible for me.

After the boot process finishes:
- the sound at the beginning is played
- black screen
- unmovable cursor in the center (and was movable on the first boot but not in
subsequent ones?)
- blinking cursor (underscore) in the top left corner
- whenever I press a key, funny characters are written on the screen; every
key-press and release generates (different) characters on screen (alt, shift,
tab, enter, a, b, c, etc.; but e.g. they do not show their letters).

When selecting the kernel from grub, there's no output with any kind of
information to me. There are only two lines presented all the time and
suddenly the screen goes into the aforementioned state. I do not see the
usual Linux boot up output.

** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 317094] Re: meta bug to collect lshal touchscreen info

2010-02-05 Thread Markus Haybach
** Description changed:

- This bug is used to collect the lshal info people are asked to submit when
evtouch calibration fails.
- Formerly this collection was done via the ubuntu-mobile mailing list, which
is a subscription only list and the traffic of submissions from unsunscribed
people got to much of a maintenance burden for the list admins.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 362359] Re: Focus gets stuck to a window - impossible to select other windows

2009-12-16 Thread Markus Johnsson
I think this is the bug I had.. And I also thinks it has something to do
with the window manager or window themes. Hitting Alt+F2 and entering
metacity --replace sometimes fixed the issues I had. So I tried
installing XFCE instead of GNOME as it uses another window manager. I've
had no problems so far.
