[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412441] Re: [MIR] libclc
No, llvm-3.8 doesn't help here. I'm trying to avoid xenial having two llvms in main. Right now our default, supported llvm is llvm-3.6. So either we switch libclc to use our supported version, or we switch our supported version to be the one libclc uses. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libclc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1412441 Title: [MIR] libclc To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libclc/+bug/1412441/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412441] Re: [MIR] libclc
llvm-3.7 is not our default in xenial yet. So either libclc should be switched to use 3.6 or our default should be updated to 3.7. Also, looks like clang isn't technically in main yet. It's source package (llvm-toolchain-3.6) is. But it hasn't been promoted yet. I'd have to go see if that was just because we didn't need to yet or if there was a problem with it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libclc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1412441 Title: [MIR] libclc To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libclc/+bug/1412441/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1412441] Re: [MIR] libclc
Looks mostly fine. But that should be simple, its llvm-defaults source package is in main already, as is clang-3.6. Which makes me wonder, is it best practices to specify a clang version in your build-depends, or should it be left as just clang? ** Changed in: libclc (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libclc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1412441 Title: [MIR] libclc To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libclc/+bug/1412441/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1158611] Re: 12.10 New build. No unity or time bar
OK, I think I've got a cause, but not a solution as yet. I've just installed 13.04 onto a new partition, with a new, seperate /home - I'll call it Temp-home(TH) to save typing On previous installs of Ubuntu, I use an existing seperate /home, I'll call it PH to save typing. When 13.04 starts using TH, Unity works and I get a status bar. When I add PH to /etc/fstab, Unity does'nt work and status bar is missing. Take PH out of /etc/fstab and Unity/status bar are fine. Not enough room to merege PH into TH. Looks like there's something within PH that's conflicting and stopping Unity/ status bar from appearing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1158611 Title: 12.10 New build. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1158611] Re: 12.10 New build. No unity or time bar
Dave, On the clean install:- 1) From the desktop, no Unity / task bar, ctrl/alt/f1 to login and install gnome-panel synaptic. Would not let me install fglrx as part of another package 2) Restarted lightdm in gnome-panel. 3) Using synaptic, installed all updates, which included a refresh of ubuntu-drivers-common, which include fglrx and a newer kernal. Also installed the packages I commonly use from the repository 4) Rebooted into ubuntu - no unity / taskbar 5) Using synaptic, re-installed fglrx, installed linux-headers-generic. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1130281] Re: [MIR] qtbase
It looks like the big consumers of qt4 on the desktop image (which is what I assume you mean by supported packages; there are other KDE packages still in main but I don't believe they are supported) are: * the signon components * ubuntuone (via python-qt4) * python-qt4 (upstream supports qt5-rc, but that support is not packaged yet) So a bit of unscoped work. But we don't want to encourage people to write things now that use qt4, (i.e. we don't want to hold back on using qt5). So I think it's more reasonable to allow qt5 and port to it in time for 14.04 LTS. I've filed bug 1130782 (ubuntuone), bug 1130780 (signon), and bug 1130784 (python-qt4) about the desire to have ports. ** No longer affects: firebird (Ubuntu) ** Package changed: libxcb (Ubuntu) = xcb-util-image (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: xcb-util-renderutil (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: xcb-util-keysyms (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libxcb in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1130281 Title: [MIR] qtbase To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtbase-opensource-src/+bug/1130281/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 914631] Re: [mir] mesa-demos
Seems fine to me, especially since it used to be in main. As for the naming of the package, it's following Debian, so that's fine. Maintainership doesn't seem *super* great (not often updated in Debian or Ubuntu), but I guess there's not a lot of activity here anyway. Several crasher bugs, but they seem mostly driver related than anything. It would be nice if we could sync up with Debian, but it's not too important. Only changes are some package metadata stuff. We do have a rather large delta with Debian in the form of the -extras package. But if this is going into main, it's a delta we'd gladly suffer (rather than moving everything into the one package). Archive Admins: please only promote mesa-utils, *not* mesa-utils-extra. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985065] [NEW] Can't use fr/oss keyboard layout by default
Public bug reported: This is a break-out bug from bug 960096. When you have fr/oss French (alternative) layout as your first layout, you end up with us instead. If you enable libxklavier debugging output, you'll see the following in your logs: Unexpected by libxklavier X ERROR: 0x8351fb8, 163f0005, 2 [], X11 request: 145, minor code: 9 That 2 in there is the X error code, which means _XkbErrMissingTypes for xkbfile extension. I assume 145 is the major op code that got assigned for the XKBFile extension. If so, 9 is the X_kbSetMap request. Which all fits with an error trying to set the new layout map. Bryce, I subscribed you to this bug. It is problably a dupclicate, but I think it is a Kernel bug. With this being a 5 year support, I think it needs addressed. It does not bother me, as there is workarounds, but for a new user with the same hardware it could scare them off as a first impression. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 934707] Re: emachine e725 boots to black screen
Canonical Kernel Team Archive for June, 2011 Brad Figg Kernel Team Meeting Minutes Status: General Oneiric We’ve almost resolved all the issues from the v3.0 fallout. We’re just wrestling with module-init-tools to get depmod sorted out. We’ve rebased to v3.0-rc2 and pushed to master-next. With v3.0-rc2, there’s an issue on boot (black screen of death) when the i915 driver is loaded. This can be worked around using i915.modeset=0 at the moment. There’s also reported boot issues on some system’s with atom processors on at least v3.0-rc1. So, I’m a bit hesitant to upload at the moment knowing we’ll break some common hardware use cases. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/934707 Title: emachine e725 boots to black screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/934707/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Public bug reported: Booting to a black screen, however a flashlight shows a faint login window. I can login, hear the startup sound, but still a black screen. Again a flashlight on the screen shows a faint desktop. I am assuming the backlight on the laptop is not responding. Pressing the function key and brightness adjustment keys does nothing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 610206] [NEW] Build in input drivers for speed
Public bug reported: Meego uses the attached patch [1] to build in support for the 'evdev' and 'synaptic' drivers. I believe it saves about a second on startup. Are those safe to build in? (I don't really understand the ramifications of doing so, but hopefully building them in doesn't hurt users that don't use either of them.) If it is safe, maybe we should use the patch too? I hope the reported problem has been resolved in the current version of Ubuntu. If it has not and there are people willing to follow up with information collecting and testing, it is best to file a new bug report with the latest Ubuntu development version (currently 10.04, but soon 10.10), using the ubuntu-bug command if possible. My processor usage dropped from about 90% while watching movies to about 50% (which is still too much) after changing drivers, but I still can't watch hulu (very choppy). here's a link: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReinhardTartler/X/RevertingIntelDriverTo2.4 Also if your screen does freeze do this: 1) press control, alt, and f2 2) you'll come to a black screen that says your computer name and login (e.g. 'computer name' login:) i) login in with your user name and then enter your password 3) then when you've reached the command line enter: i) sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart ii) enter your password This should bring your screen back. 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 03) Subsystem: Dell Device 0147 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 16 Memory at e000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Memory at ee00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K] Capabilities: access denied Kernel driver in use: i915 Kernel modules: i915 -- [i82845G/GL Brookdale-G] Screen freeze after while of working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/502055 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. I have Ubuntu 9.10 upgraded from 9.04 and running dual boot parallel with XP Windows (which is not experiencing the same problem, so not a hardware fault). I start up and work for awhile and eventually the screen stops responding to the cursor, so I have to switch off power and reboot to continue. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this problem? The source package (as I understand it) is to do with this upgraded version. 1) the release is currently 9.10 2) the response to this command is 'W: Unable to locate package packagename'. I don't know what to check for in Synaptic?? INTERRUPTION!! - the screen keeps freezing as I attempt to complete this information so I will send now and add to it later if I can. Thanks Bruce, I don't know how long the fix takes to work through the system, but as of today 1-16-10 at 5:37 update, the autologin feature is still not working. I still get crash reports the last few days which I have not been reporting. Should I report the crashes again or wait until the fix is applied? Thanks for all the developers hard work. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 502055] Re: [i82845G/GL Brookdale-G] Screen freeze after while of working
Thanks for your response Bryce, I am thinking of re-installing 9.10 as the last resort unless you suggest otherwise? But if you think that might be the best action to take at this point could you provide any links that may assist me in the process? I found the following but would be good to have more detail: http://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/reinstallation Sometimes, in the beginning of your Linux adventure, you'll want to reinstall Ubuntu. Because you've inadvertently spoiled the system beyond repair (it happens to us all!). There are several ways to reinstall, but this is probably the easiest way to do it: 1. Backup your personal documents, music, pictures et cetera, on an external storage medium. Like a CD, a DVD, an external hard drive or a USB memory stick. 2. In Ubuntu 9.10, you can use the Desktop CD: boot your computer from the Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop CD and start GParted: System - Administration - GParted. Then use this disk partitioner, to completely destroy the Ubuntu partitions. Or you can use the free GParted LiveCD for that (Ubuntu 8.04). Don't format the Ubuntu partitions, just destroy them. The result will be unallocated free space. 3. Reboot your computer. Don't remove the Ubuntu CD. 4. Boot again from the Ubuntu CD and choose again Install Ubuntu. During it's course, the installation application will automatically suggest to install Ubuntu on the unallocated free space on the hard drive. Which is what you want. After you've agreed to it's proposal, the installer takes automatically care of the rest! -- [i82845G/GL Brookdale-G] Screen freeze after while of working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/502055 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 502055] Re: [82845G/GL Brookdale-G] Screen freeze after while of working
I have 2 machines each with Ubuntu 9.10, and I have always been able to just move the mouse to restore, so maybe machines later than pentium 4 do not respond in this way. Latest on freeze is that it froze last night while viewing photos, so is not specific to whatever I am doing on the workspace, though - just a few minutes ago - I unlocked the window changer on the lower panel as it had somehow slipped to the middle as I relocated a url icon. I successfully relocated the window changer, but then when I tried to move the garbage bin after unlocking it, the screen froze and I had to press the boot up button on the pc to shut down. When it came up again, the top and bottom panels appeared but the screen was all black. Rebooted again and screen was again black but came back on after moving the cursor around a few times. Then unlocked and moved the shut down applet on the top panel - successfully - and then the date/time applet, where it again frose after unlocking and clicking on 'move' (in the drop down menu - right click), and again it froze, but after rebooting, the screen did not go black again, and I was able to complete the relocating operation without a further freeze. Sorry for the convoluted detail but figure it is best to give as clear a picture as possible. And thanks for all your patience and assistance Alex - I understand that I have to wait now for a developer to take a look at it (hopefully!). Learning a lot through this exercise though, in terms of the process involved in locating package faults and reporting them effectively. I am overall very much enjoying my Linux experience - problems included! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 502055] Re: [82845G/GL Brookdale-G] Screen freeze after while of working
will start keeping a record of when freezes occur - lately they have been less often, but it always freezes when after screensaver eventually defaults to sleep (or is it hibernation - same thing?) - it won't restore by moving mouse or pressing enter, so I have to shut power off. But noticed yesterday that this does not happen when music player is on. Seems to occur more when surfing net or emailing, but also happens when word processing or using pc generally. The thin green line left of screen accompanied by a quick shudder of the screen - upon clicking on toolbar icons - is the main symptom of the fault - aside from the eventual freezing itself. -- [82845G/GL Brookdale-G] Screen freeze after while of working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/502055 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
