Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Squeeze on Arch - developer version

2015-03-30 Thread steve-g

I've recently installed SOA and LMS (7.81) on to a Wandboard Quad mainly
to get BBC radio working again as the sparc processor that my Readynas
uses does not have the horse power to run this.

I have my music stored on the readynas (a Readynas Duo V1) and have
mounted the share on the wand board - this works fine with 44.1kHz
sampling rate but cannot cope with hi-def files.
It almost works with 24/96k with just a few re-buffers per track, 24/192
will constantly re-buffer.

I know that the readnas is slow but it's not that slow - I've installed
LMS on my main PC as a test and using the same configuration (music on
nas) this works fine - so it seems to be a Wandboard issue.
The PC, Wandboard and Readynas all connect to the router via 1Gb/s
connections - so this SHOULDN'T be a problem.

Is there anything that I can tweak (buffers?) to improve performance or
to help diagnose exactly whats happening?

Thanks

Hi Clive, it's my Marantz SR5004 receiver, which according to the specs
has a 24/192 DAC + DSD capability over HDMI (no further specs given
though). The SACD has been ripped to standard FLAC, no transcoding
involved. I do get sound :)

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Squeezelite - a small headless squeezeplay emulator for linux (alsa only)

2015-03-30 Thread ashleyw

just in-case this helps anyone... I have switched to running Squeezelite
on 2xRas Pi 2s. I was having random audio drop outs on hdmi which
appeared to be impacting on the sync.
The fix was simple; config_hdmi_boost=4 in the config.txt in the root of
the SDcard.
I'm also using precision time protocol (PTP) on the RPIs to maintain
accurate sync and have LMS running on the master server. PTP appears to
be able to maintain sync down to about 1/100 of a second between
multiple PIs.
PI1 is connected via HDMI to my Onkyo receiver, PI2 is analogue sound
port to lineinput on my win7PC and software mixing audio into the
windows output sounds.

On the master server (both running raspbian);

Code:

  $ sudo apt-get install ptpd
  $ sudo vi /etc/default/ptpd
  # /etc/default/ptpd

  # Set to yes to actually start ptpd automatically
  START_DAEMON=yes

  # Add command line options for ptpd
  PTPD_OPTS=-b eth0 -h

and then on the clock slaves;

Code:

  $ sudo apt-get install ptpd
  $ sudo vi /etc/default/ptpd
  # /etc/default/ptpd

  # Set to yes to actually start ptpd automatically
  START_DAEMON=yes

  # Add command line options for ptpd
  PTPD_OPTS=-g -b eth0 -h

and then to install the ptpd service to start at boot time;

Code:

  $ sudo insserv ptpd

I've have streaming radio running (via an RTMP source using BPAs
excellent xplay plugin using VLC for transcoding) and there hasn't been
a single player sync correction in the last two hours, so I think my
system is finally starting to work it should.
I should be able to improve things further once the two HifiBerry cards
I've ordered arrive and I expect I should be able to drive both the
HifiBerry ALSA output and the HDMI output simultaneously to give me more
audio zones.

I really like the work that Gramofon are doing - (I believe Allplay sync
was finally pushed in the last week), but I like the open source aspect
of the squeezebox architecture which makes everything possible and
removes all restrictions.

Has anyone been in touch with Adrian aka Triode? I hope he is OK - it
would be great to see him on the forums again.

Ok, let's see if we can sort this out. Do you have NFS running now on
the ReadyNAS? What is the IP of your ready NAS? Are you able to get to
the command line of your Wandboard via SSH? For example, if your
ReadyNAS IP was 192.168.0.77, then login to your Wandboard via SSH as
root.

At the CLI on your Wandboard execute this command:

Code:

  showmount -e 192.168.0.77

The info returned by this command will show if the Wandboard can detect
the NFS share on your ReadyNAS by showing what's called the export
list which should show the NFS share name (change 192.168.0.77 to match
the actual IP of your Wandboard).

Post the command output here.

 Jesper.

Hi Jesper, big thanks, as I have for the last 3 month happily been using
your implementation of LIRC to control my PiCorePlayer v. 1.18 (running
on RPI B+).
Now the new PiCorePlayer v. 1.19 has come out, but with this version I
can't get LIRC it to work - probably because another kernel version is
used ( i think 3.18.17).
I have without success also tried to ad
dtoverlay=lirc-rpi,gpio_in_pin=18 to config.txt (as hinted on various
sites).
Would really appreciate if you have figured out, and could explain how
to get LIRC to work on PiCorePlayer v. 1.19.

Jens

 I think that you are not streaming high sample rate through HDMI, when I

 When I look at my log streaming high sample rate (192000 hz flac) to
 my computer monitor (I just figured out that it also had a speaker -
 so actually I might be able to test the HDMI stuff after all)

 IS THIS A VALID TEST TO USE THIS CHEAP COMPUTER SPEAKER - IT SEEMS TO
 ACCEPT ALL SAMPLE RATES??? AND IT SEEMS TO PLAY WITHOUT ANY CLICKS AND
 POPS??

 However, my log looks like this:

Hi Steen,
I think I know why it defaulted to 48000 ... It's possible that my
receiver wasn't powered up when piCoPlayer started. I'm now performing
the same test again, with Cosmo's Factory as well as HDTracks releases
of Disraeli Gears in 24/192 and Made Up Mind (Tedeschi Trucks Band) in
24/88.2, and Clive's command shows:

Code:

  tc@piCorePlayer:~$ cat /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params
  access: MMAP_INTERLEAVED
  format: S16_LE
  subformat: STD
  channels: 2
  rate: 176400 (176400/1)
  period_size: 1764
  buffer_size: 7056
  tc@piCorePlayer:~$
  tc@piCorePlayer:~$ cat /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params
  access: MMAP_INTERLEAVED
  format: S16_LE
  subformat: STD
  channels: 2
  rate: 176400 (176400/1)
  period_size: 1764
  buffer_size: 7056
  tc@piCorePlayer:~$
  tc@piCorePlayer:~$ cat /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params
  access: MMAP_INTERLEAVED
  format: S16_LE
  subformat: STD
  channels: 2
  rate: 192000 (192000/1)
  period_size: 1920
  buffer_size: 7680
  tc@piCorePlayer:~$

Log attached as well (yesterdays part is still in there as well
:p)17787
I have no more dropouts, and I'm still on 1.19e, as I first wanted to be
sure why I saw correct sample rates in another player's squeezelite log
when connected to the same receiver.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: JiveLite - cut down squeezebox control application

2015-03-30 Thread munich

The capacitive PiTFT displays jivelite fine. BUT the touch function
doesn't work. The mouse cursor can only be moved around the top left
hand corner of the screen, no matter where you touch.

There is a solution hint at #268
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?98156-Announce-JiveLite-cut-down-squeezebox-control-applicationp=804070viewfull=1#post804070
but as Newbie I do not understand what to do.

Anybody who managed to get the capacitive PiTFT working?

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: Squeezelite - a small headless squeezeplay emulator for linux (alsa only)

2015-03-30 Thread Davidg1

In the hope that Google will do it's magic and bring this to the
attention of anyone unlucky enough to face the same confusion as me
today, I'm posting some stuff here!

I installed the Local Player Plugin as part of the testing for the BBC
iPlayer patches to handle HLS. I thought no more about it!

Today I was getting a few weird noises coming from my speakers that
sounded like a radio channel for a fraction of a second. When I looked
in audio mixer I saw this player Name Not Available. A Google search
showed nbothing but horror stories about vicious malware infections!
(https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instantion=1espv=2ie=UTF-8#q=audio%20mixer%20name%20not%20available).
I felt sure I was not infected but felt the need to check in any case. A
run through Kaspersky, MalwareBytes etc. found nothing. Then it occured
to me SQUEEZELITE. Yep, WHEN INSTALLED AS THE LOCAL PLAYER PLUGIN it
shows up in Audio Mixer as Name Not Available!

I was really surprised that even a focused search for squeezelite/box
and name not available finds nothing.

Maybe this post might just save someone hours of heartache, convinced
their system is infested with nasties!

 Have you got it working?

Not a good idea to have NFS and CIFS running simultaneously on the same
data on your ReadyNAS, use one or the other. It really should not be a
case of trial and error manual editing of your /etc/fstab. Triode
designed SOA for you to mount shares via its web interface storage.html
page. See the help instructions on that page.

I cannot comment on Wandboard kernels as I'm ruuning SOA on a RPi b+
If I mount a CIFS share readonly via the webinterface I see this in my
/etc/fstab file.

Code:

  [root@soa-rpi ~]# cat /etc/fstab
  #
  # /etc/fstab: static file system information
  #
  # file system dir type options dump pass
  /dev/mmcblk0p1  /boot   vfatdefaults0   0
  # start added by soa-web
  //192.168.0.206/mdata   /mnt/disk1  cifs
ro,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,credentials=/etc/credentials/cifs-mnt-disk10   0
  # end added by soa-web

You seem to have mounted your share manually.

Lestrad wrote:
 Exactly what is in your fstab? Or are you trying to mount manually?

The main problem is I don't actually know what to put in fstab - I've
tried a whole range of different lines from very simple with no options
to more or less a copy of the cifs options and I can't get anything to
work - any idea what should go in fstab for nfs mounts? - I've tried all
the permutations I've found by googling.

I've not actually tried mounting manually but might try doing this as I
can then see if I get any error messages.
