Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] could this be a Squeezebox player if pCP will install and work?

Thanks for the quick response and great to hear that the DAC works with
one of the drivers for another card with the same chip set. I think that
the IQaudIO and JustBoom cards have the same chip set as well.

Look forward to hearing your opinions about the sound quality.

I'm considering using the nanosound for my main server; allowing
HiFiBerry Amp with touchscreen to become just a player together with two
other Pis with HiFiBerry DACs. I've found that the touchscreen has
become unpredictable in its responses since changing it to the amp
rather than just a DAC.

Well strike me everlasting perishing purple! :D

Thanks for the hint.

It works with that card no problem, I thought I'd tried them all. Blue
LED comes on when playing and goes off after ~ 15 secs when stopped.

Wife still snoring here, so I can't give an opinion on the sound yet.

I installed Volumio and the necessary stuff to enable the DAC, however
Volumio is just not up to LMS standards. I didn't really use it long
enough to assess the DAC.

I installed piCorePlayer, but never got the DAC to work with it. I'm not
Linux literate, and wasn't really up to asking for help at the time.

Since then it acts as my LMS server only, it's not used as a player
(everything in my signature). I added a deeper baseplate and installed
an M.2 240GB sata drive, then the add-on base and a 1TB 2.5" sata SSD
drive.

Sorry can't help with the DAC side of things.

Here's the manual for irrecord: https://www.lirc.org/html/irrecord.html
It will guide you through the steps to create a lircd configuration
file, which you ca upload to pCP.

Alternativly you could check if the file is already available here:
http://lirc-remotes.sourceforge.net/remotes-table.html

I think that would require quite a it more resources than the current

I certainly appreciate everything you guys do. pCP has given me hours
and hours of entertainment. Listening and fooling around with the pi's.
The set up in my car is so much better than any auto sound system I've
ever had as far as sound and functionality, quirks and all. I use a pi
for my LMS server and it is rock solid. I have a pi by my treadmill with
a 7" touch screen that is the only reason I get on the darn treadmill.
And I have a handful of others that go outside or handheld. Plus, I
still have several Logitech era players in use. Trust me, I appreciate
you guys very much.

I found one Just Boom supplier here in the U.S., but it has less than
desirable reviews, even if it's only two. The layout looks a little weak
also. As I mentioned, the OSMC works out of the box minus one button. I
think it has a better layout than the Just Boom and I have tried to
figure that one button, to no avail. It works well enough, but is a
little bulky for my car, which is what I wanted it for.

For now, I'm set and happy as a pig in

Thanks,

Howard

I think we try our best to help and Paul is correct that it's impossible
to support the plethora of IR remotes.

JustBoom was kind enough to provide the team with remotes and as a
result picoreplayer includes configuration files for the 'JustBoom IR
remote' (https://shop.justboom.co/products/justboom-ir-remote) for
squeezelite and jivelite.

The 'Justboom USB smart remote'
(https://shop.justboom.co/products/justboom-smart-remote) works out of
the box with jivelite. Just plugin the dongle you don't even need to
install the lirc extension. Note that we don't support the "wand/mouse"
feature but all the buttons are mapped.

2020-11-29 Thread Howard Passman

Over time I've had two of my SB remotes die. I wish I could find
replacements easily. I did order one for the Boom from China, but that
didn't actually ship. At the moment I have exactly the needed number of
remotes for the car (pi/pCP), basement (pi/pCP) and main
system(Transporter). The OSMC remote works somewhat, out of the box, but
it lacks the great setup of the original SB remotes. The original
remotes were perfect for the SB's and the pCP. Well thought out and
logical lay out.

As for following the documentation for modifying or making a new remote
work with pCP...whew. I've started down that road a few times. It's
beyond me. I'll just keep praying my SB remotes last longer than I do.
Working so far :-)

I expect that the challenge for the pCP team would be that there are a
lot of remotes out there.
They have documented the basics for how to get a 3rd-party remote to
control things.
I guess that one route would be to have some sort of tool that worked
like a universal remote interpreter and allowed the user to teach pCP
the signals from any given remote and have the tool write out all of the
files (and optionally share them to make it easy for someone else with
the same remote).
Would be a lot of work when I expect that most here have genuine
Squeezebox remotes or programmable ones that can emulate one.

Well I've ordered one of them, I have a spare Pi4/PSU/SD card. (or 3)

I'll install pCP, if I can't get any sound out of it I'll install
Volumio just to see what it sounds like. I think I can use it as a
Squeezebox client.

Keep you all posted cos I know you're all keen to know how it turns out.

This is also no problem for the Argon One case. The fan is only
switching on here when it is getting hotter than 50°C and that is the
case when the database is newly created. But the fan is only running for
30s or so, then it is again cooler than 50°C. But I think you can let
the Pi run at 50°C without a problem. You can also switch the fan
completely off.

I use a flirc case to house my Pi4 / LMS, this has no fan and has no
problem at keeping the temperature below 45ºC, I am completely satisfied
with this case.

A comparison with the Argon one case (without fan) shows the Argon to be
slightly better than the flirc.

Personally that would be good enough for me, as I would have no wish to
have a fan going 24/7 on a player only box.

Sounds very interesting.
But compared to the normal Argon One housing (which is great by the
way!) the fan is missing. I don't know how hot only piCorePlayer
installation will get but here with LMS it is 40°C and goes up when
creating the database.

I thought this was a really good deal until I realised that a Raspberry
Pi was not included in the price!

[SlimDevices: Unix] could this be a Squeezebox player if pCP will install and work?

2020-11-27 Thread kidstypike

A good looking (all ports on the back) Squeezebox player for about £120,
if the nice pCP team can work their magic!
