Flutter based frontend to possibly OFBiz for early adopters

2023-08-25 Thread Hans Bakker

Hi Community,

The open source Flutter ERP system GrowERP is now available in
production. It is using Moqui as the back end in a multi company
configuration. As a proof of concept the early versions of the system
also is working with Apache OFBiz, check the Github repository
.

We have currently 2 applications available for early access:

1. Administration
This is the general basic ERP application showing all basic
   functions like employee/user/company-, CRM, product-,order
   management, warehouse, e-commerce and accounting.
The same application is available on the following platforms:
   * Browser: https://admin.growerp.com
   * Google Android: Play Store

   * Apple IOS: App Store

2. Hotel
This is the first specialized application where the functions of
administrator are adapted and have a room registration and
availability management added as the main menu.
Also this app is available on the 3 platforms:
   * Browser: https://hotel.growerp.com
   * Google Android: Play Store

   * Apple IOS: App Store

Everything in a easy to use system, available as open source using
Flutter as the front end and Moqui
as the backend. All together in a single
repository at the GitHub platform
for evaluation, issue reporting and contributions.

If you like to be informed about the system both from an end-user and
technical implementation point of view subscribe to our weekly
mailinglist

The approach in the branch referred to in above mailing list thread is to
build the currently checked out workspace. This has been particularly
useful for me when testing.

Also check out https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OFBIZ-10407 where
approaches making use of a Dockerfile where ofbiz sources are retrieved
from the repo as part of the docker build process.

I prefer the approach of building the currently checked out environment -
but I'm biased :)

Also see this docker-compose configuration which builds a docker image to
operate alongside a Postgres database. -

To move this forward I think we need the ofbiz committers to signal a
preferred direction and then we can collectively focus on that and get
closer to publishing some official images.

2. Our driver picks the goods from our storage and delivers them to the

3. When he returns with a signed delivery note from the customer, we
enter the delivery note into the ERP system.

However, we currently have a different process than the one described in the

We take the orders by phone and generate a delivery note from that. Our driver
picks the goods from our storage and delivers them to the customer. When he
returns with a signed delivery note from the customer, we enter the delivery
note into the ERP system. The ERP system takes a look at the agreement details

This does not seem to fit the process described in the wiki page. How can we

So just have a gradlew command to build and load inside your Dockerfile.
Remember the cache is simply replacement to the old jars that existed with
the code base. This is now how most modern software works and it is
becoming less and less common for projects to carry dependencies in the
code base.

Now regarding your comment about username and server, there are many tweaks
you can make to gradle. Check the command line documentation [1]. For
example you can relocate the cache location using the --gradle-user-home
flag. Also generally in docker things are very much dependent on userne,
that's a docker thing, not a gradle thing.

I have the docker image working now according your recommendations:

Within the docker container I run the ofbiz system as user root and persist

Conclusion:
1. it is not possible to create an ofbiz production system locally and

Re: Alternative UI: Vaadin proof of concept

2017-09-07 Thread Hans Bakker

Hi Michael,

The main advantage i see is that Vaadin is like ofbiz screens/forms in
that you do not need to know css/html/javasccript to create an
application, but Vaadin is developed much further having much more
add-ons. Further Vaadin has a much larger user base.

They both have limitations in the html layout although in Vaadin they
are much less of a disadvantage.

A further advantage is that it is possible to convert from ofbiz
screens/forms to Vaadin so we do not have to re-create the 2000+
screens/forms we have, not sure about bootstrap?

As I see it Bootstrap is a further development of the ofbiz
screens/forms which functions however are currently already available in
Vaadin but allows you full flexibility of the html interface which you
do not have in Vaadin.

So in my opinion both Bootstrap and Vaadin have their pros/cons.

our current list of activity, yes, we need help:

not sure what the difference is but it contains an order import/export

Re: Multiple Subsidiaries in OfBiz

2017-01-31 Thread Hans Bakker

Good morning!

Let me share our experiences running ofbiz in a ofbiz tenant environment
with completely independent companies in separate databases.

We did this for about 2-3 years where we patched ofbiz to have:
1. multiple url's for a single tenant
2. add tenants without restart
3. a number of menus to add/disable tenants, delete and reload data and
make and restore backups.
4.We also had a way to enable certain components in hot-deploy for a
specific tenant.

This tenant component is not maintained any more but is still available
at: https://gerrit.antwebsystems.com/#/admin/projects/tenant

However, although it worked, it needed a lot of maintenance and
monitoring and got too complicated.

So, we now switched to a docker environment where we use ofbiz in a
docker container which is used in demo and production. Every company has
its own ofbiz docker image which is automatically built and installed in
production from Git once a day when there were changes in the
repository.(our GrowERP continuous everything platform) Now it is much
easier to have specific changes for specific companies. Further scaling
application servers is now much easier.

This is now running for over a year and is much easier to maintain.

All software required to run this setup is open source and can be found
at our gerrit.antwebsystems.com git repository as source; compiled
versions at https://www.growerp.com/control/main?contentId=GROWERP_DEMO

This means that somewhere in our SVN there are some demo data files that could

Separate Customers (CRM tied to a seperate company
Sales Associates can be tied to multiple companies
Each company can fulfill from each others warehouse (intercompany

Should be able to invoice each other
Warehouses should be tied to a company
Stores should be tied to a company
Financials Should be tied to a company
Purchases Should be tied to a company
Each company could have separate currency
Each company could have separate language

We can use external reporting to handle the Intercompany consolidation

My question is does Ofbiz handle this OTB? If so what are the key areas
we need to configure for this to handle properly.

Re: OFBiz setup process can't be completed

2016-10-12 Thread Hans Bakker
As pierre already wrote, the setup will only properly work when loading
only seed and seed initial data and then, only then, it will appear on
the menu.Yes, the PartyAcctgPreference entity should be empty.

We have now a simplified one page setup version in the GrowERP backend
which you can use. It should be compatible with OFBiz because GrowERP is
following the OFBiz data model and has the same Apache license.

Installation of GrowERP at
https://www.growerp.com/control/main?contentId=GROWERP_DEMO

The reason that we did not contribute it is, that it takes currently too
much discussion and time to get enhancements in the core ofbiz system.

We will try a new upcoming enhancement to make the passport component
also suitable for facebook and google+ hopefully it will get better.

I tried to use it in the trunk version of OFBiz but I met some problem

I understand the error message now, thanks : )
So we can update the planned hours at any given time ? Shouldn't the
estimation be done before the realization of task and the burn-down
chart updated with the 'actual hours' spend on the task ?

sure but when people see the planned hours are not enough it should be
indicated as early as possible that more time is needed.

that it will be indicated in the burndown chart.

We further developed the ofbiz scrum component where you can do that
within the time sheet. it is now called growerpagile and should still be
compatible with the ofbiz trunk and still has the same license as ofbiz
itself. It now also supports Kanban and continuous testing and deployment.

Thanks for the recommendation Jacques. The book doesn't cover importing bank
statements.(although there is a small appendix about importing data via the
webtools menu)

I think that if you want to look at importing a bank statement then an xml
import is the way to go (so if you can convert it to xml you can import it).
Effectively all you are doing is importing transactions.

The challenge you may have is going to be the format and linking with the GL
and other areas. I'd suggest you look at importing it as a financial account
bank account to start with. That way you can have a play around with the
different statuses and reconciliations available and posting the
transactions to the GL account you want.

It's been a while since I looked at it but I remember some functionality
around reconcilation that matches the closing balance of one reconciliation
against the following one, which would help as an ongoing balance check for
ongoing imports.

It's a bit hard to say much more without more information.

Anyway, hope this helps.

GrowERP-PAAS A software development platform including ERP based on
Apache OFBiz

By combining a number of open source tools and connect them with Apache
OFBiz, a platform was created to handle all operations in a software
development company. GrowERP is an open source OFBiz component only
showing a limited functionality of OFBiz using the standard database to
be able to upgrade to the full system anytime without data conversion.
Currently most open source companies are small and Apache OFBiz is just
too big for them.

This combined with an open source OFBiz Scrum component, Jenkins,
Git/Gerrit you have the complete platform for organizing a vendor branch
of the product you represent, a staging environment updated daily and a
fully automated production deployment. Methodologies supported are
Scrum/Kanban with time registration and accounting with automated
invoicing including full ledger capability.

Re: Extending OrderHeader, and the finalizeOrder process

Isn't the invoice you want follow up for payment?

Hans

On 18/06/15 12:38, Forrest Rae wrote:

Hi Everyone,

I'm wondering about best practices here, and want to avoid going down a
route that might lead to pain and suffering.

I need to track three custom pieces of data per sales order. This data
is used for contacting the customer for payment. One piece of data is a
purchase order number, then there are two others that are tracking
numbers specific to the customer's payment system. This data is
required to be not-null.

I've extended OrderHeader. Problem is, the order entry screens will
fail at the end, because of the not-null constraint. (I added the
constraints manually, due to a bug OFBIZ-6493)

I started digging into the finalizeOrder request chain. I'd like to
capture these three pieces of data on the setBilling screen that is part
of finalizeOrder chain. It appears I'd need to do some pretty heavy
lifting to augment this process, including modifying the ShoppingCart
class, etc.

Obviously someone has had to do this before, so just wondering if there
are any best practices to avoid modifying the Java classes.

Re: OFBiz Meetup in Amsterdam ?

2015-05-05 Thread Hans Bakker

It looks like it is too early for this kind of event.

I am currently setting up partnerships with small business consulting
companies in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands and gave this a try to
extend it into a small conference.

I went to the ApacheCon in Austin in the hope to do the same in the US.
However you have to realize that ApacheCon is mostly for and by Apache
people, not many other people will attend.

This European conference was worth a try, just to attract people outside
of the Apache foundation, will try again next year.

Budget/forecasting function in accounting

2015-04-01 Thread Hans Bakker

Good day,

we have a request from a customer to implement a full budget function
into accounting of which the entered values should also appear on the
standard PL and balance sheet of a specific organization. Yes this is a
multi company accounting implementation.

Anybody any thoughts on this or would like to work with us? I did not
not yet discuss this with our customer if this function can be
contributed or not, i just would like to know if there is interest of
the OFBiz users in general.

Because i will be visiting ApacheCon in Austin in 2 weeks, we could also

Re: Budget/forecasting function in accounting

Thank you all for your interest.

We plan to follow chapter 8 of the data model resource book vol 1. I
hope you understand that we first have to find out what this customer
requires, then generalize the implementation and then i can present the
result if the customer agrees to contribute it. From that point on,
comments on the implementation can be implemented. The planned
implementation with the customer is June this year.

Now i see there is interest, I will keep you informed of any developments.

OFBiz marketing linkedin group.

2014-08-12 Thread Hans Bakker

As you are aware i have created a linkedin marketing discussion group.
The url is : https://www.linkedin.com/groups?home=gid=6742050

My understanding is that in general, people of the ofbiz mailing lists
are interested in the Apache OFBiz product and not so much in the
marketing of the system. That is the main reason the linkedin group is
separate. However may i ask you something? *Can you forward this url to
the marketing and sales department in the company you are working for?*
They may be interested taking part of the discussions.

The second reason is that , the last few weeks i have myself involved in
the marketing aspect of OFBiz and found some interesting articles on
this subject. I share these articles in this marketing group to not only
have an open source system but also have 'open marketing' where
marketing information is shared.

This email is just a notification, do not reply here but please enter
your comments in the linkedin OFBiz marketing group.

Re: Currencies of invoice and payment not compatible - All the time

2014-03-18 Thread Hans Bakker

Hi Jacopo,

Thanks for your work on this. However i implemented it the following way:

1. The invoice is in the currency of the related party which can be
foreign and can be shown in local currency by calculation, using the
currency exchange table.
2. The payment is always in the local currency as received from the
bank. (Reconciliation should be done in the ledger not payment?), if it
was a foreign payment the foreign value is entered in the original
currency field of the payment. When a payment is entered that way having
two currencies, the currency table is updated accordingly using the
invoice date so they always fully apply. This is wrong if you want to
record loss/gain of exchange rate and should be a configurable option
using either the invoice date or the payment date for the exchange rate.
This foreign invoice is entered in the ledger using in calculated local

Matching invoices to payment should match the actual currency (not

not the same use the original currency of the payment.

The intended purpose of these fields was clearly mentioned in the entity
definitions since the beginning:
!-- The ActualCurrency amount and uomId are for the values coming from the bank
(if known) and are to be used for reconciliation and such later, and not for
PaymentApplication. --

According to this, in order to apply a payment to an invoice the following
conditions must be met:
* Invoice.currencyUomId == Payment.currencyUomId == PaymentApplication currency
If the Payment was in a different currency than one of the invoice, the actual
currency and amount (in the foreign currency) should be stored in the
actualCurrencyAmount and actualCurrencyUomId (these fields are for information
only); but the Payment.currencyUomId and Payment.amount fields should always be
filled with the currency of the Invoice.

Hi Antony

the really big advantage of open source is that you can see how it is
done in the existing application. Study the e-commerce component and
find out how the products are displayed on the home page?

Do similar with your category or simply re-use the existing code?

Re: Why is a bogus Payment and OrderPaymentPreference created for Purchase Orders

2013-10-15 Thread Hans Bakker
Hi Skip, not sure if added it, because running accounting s pretty
cumbersome if you have to create manually payments and payment
application for the automatically generated invoice. It is much easier
to amend the automatically generated ones if required.

If i remember well there is a property setting if you do not want to
generate the payment automatically?

Hans

 -condition-field field-name=statusId operator=not-equals
to-field-name=oldStatusId/-
 -action service=createPaymentFromOrder mode=sync persist=true-
-eca-

If the order is approved and it is a purchase order, the service
createPaymentFromOrder is called which creates a payment and a
OrderPaymentPreference amoung other things.

This is causing me some problems because when the order is received, an
invoice is created by InvoiceServices.createInvoiceForOrder and around line
776 is this line:

 ListGenericValue orderPaymentPrefs =
delegator.findList(OrderPaymentPreference,
EntityCondition.makeCondition(paymentPrefConds, EntityOperator.AND), null,
null, null, false);

This returns the above created OrderPaymentPreference and a
PaymentApplication is created for the payment created above.

There is a bug in this code that miscalculates the amount to apply and I get
errors like:

Error in service [createPaymentApplication] Tried to apply [692.5] which is
greater than the outstanding amount [623.25] of invoice [62741].

Now, I dont really care about this bug. In my view, the Payment and
OrderPaymentPreference should not have been created. In version 9.x, this
seca did not exist.

My question is what is the purpose? No payment was ever received, it is a
completely bogus one.

I have commented out the seca and am in the process of writing a service to
remove all the payments, applications, and OrderPaymentPreference created by
the above seca.

I am just wondering what the logic here was.

However:
1. on the purchase order it is possible to enter order items without

introducing accounting segments

2013-07-25 Thread Hans Bakker

(OFBiz) accounting experts: I need you opinion!

We have the possibility here to be able to introduce Apache OFBiz
accounting in a large multi company organization. This organization is
evaluating the several alternatives and after evaluation of OFBiz, came
up with a function which OFBiz needs to have, in order to be considered.

The user story:
Although OFBiz accounting has the 'costcenter' function, it is not
fine-grained enough, we need to be able to segment the ledger to a lower
level that the GL accounts namely to the accounting transaction..
Further, all existing reports should have the facility to be able to
select a segment of the ledger for either costing, profit or other
purposes like special projects.

The proposed user interface.
We need at least at the order item level the ability to specify a
parent-segment/segment and a percentage, if the percentange is not 100%
the remainder to 100% should be assigned to another segment.
These segments can be defined and assigned by the user to the order item
upon entry. When the related invoice is created the segment(s) will be
copied and can overridden before posting when these segment names will
be copied to the accounting transaction.

The proposed user reporting.
All existing ledger reports will have the additional ability to select
these segments and will only incorporate accounting transactions where
this segment is specified.

The proposed technical implementation.
1. add a new entity called LedgerSegment with fields: ledgerSegmentId,
parentSegmentId, description
2. add another 3 similar entities: OrderItemSegment, InvoiceItemSegment,
AcctTransSegment to make the relation to the LedgerSegment entity and to
specify the percentage.
3. Change the order, invoice, accounting transaction screens and ledger
report entity views to be able to use the segment names when available
in the LedgerSegment entity

As i said , please let me know what you think, this is a great
opportunity for OFBiz accounting.

Re: operating a single OFBiz with multiple companies.

2013-06-18 Thread Hans Bakker
sure we can follow the suggestion of Adrian to setup a organizational
context, and even, that separate companies could have different base
currencies if we see the definition in the PartyAccountingPreference
entity. Pretty sure that OFBiz does not allow that everywhere in the
application. The rollup subledger in accounting does not do that yet and
probably other places too when there are inter company transactions.

We need to setup that the defaultOrganizationParty is used as a
condition everywhere on every list, like invoices, payments, orders
shipments etc and the accounting sub ledger rollup will make currency
conversions to the currency of the top company where required.

any other suggestions welcome

the ordershipment entity allows for partial and combined order shipments

so no need to change the data model.now checking for the ERP
application.

Business requirement:

The customer requests a single invoice for the items from the orders
in this shipment.

How to implement this is OFBiz? anybody suggestions?

I am thinking creating a shipment group relating to single shipments
and this shipment group is related to a single invoice which also
lists the orderid the invoiceitem is on.

Any help appreciated because i would like to add this to the OFBiz
core system.

Re: requirement for a shipment group?

2013-05-22 Thread Hans Bakker
Looks like we have to add the possibility to the shipment screens to be
able to add other orders or, to be able on the order screen to add an
order to an existing (not yet shipped) shipment (with the same destination)

Then we have to check with the invoice generation if it can list
shipment items related from different orders.

any other suggestions welcome

Hans

InvoiceItemType both as seed and demo data?

2013-05-22 Thread Hans Bakker
Invoiceitemtype's and PaymentMethodType's are defined in :
AccountingTypeData.xml and in DemoGlSetupData.xml as seed AND demo data.

Looks like it should be deleted as seed?

however InvoiceItemTypeMap is seed only and need invoiceItemType?

any opinions?

POS on a Android tablet?

2013-04-24 Thread Hans Bakker

Good morning!

we just get 2 requests in from customers who ask the question if they
can use a tablet for a POS (point of sale) or cash register for a
physical shop.

If we could make this work using the WEbPOS from OFBiz, add local
storage and sync for product and customers and orders (to use the POS
off-line when internet goes down) and either use the camera or external
barcode scanner and a wifi network printer could do the job .

This would significantly simplify and reduce the physical shop
investment for IT.

Anybody interested? let me know so we could together on this subject?

Regards,
Hans

Re: Remove Menu Items

2013-03-29 Thread Hans Bakker

Sure can do, however the ap/ar can still be reached by typing in the url.

So, why not add some security rules to achieve what you want and create
a jira for it?

make sure the user does not have the security permissions for it.

then it will not appear and he cannot even get it when he knows the url.

Re: missing data records from webtools in component and tenantcomponent entities

2013-02-15 Thread Hans Bakker

Hi Black bird!

You may have a look at https://backend.ofbizdemo.com/webtools
(user=admin password = ofbiz)

This version is running under the GrowERP tenant system and only allows
access to its own tenant records, not the other tenants.

Yes this GrowERP tenant addition is also open source under Apache 2.0
and can be downloaded if you send per email your linkedin url and
provide a public ssh key to supp...@growerp.com

Thanks for your answer. I've come across that JIRA issue many times.
There is currently no resolution to that issue to my knowledge, and the
only workaround being to disable the webtools application for tenants.

The issue I'm raising in this thread is different however, relating to the
Component and TenantComponent entities, rather than the Tenant and
TenantDataSources entities of JIRA 4130. Even if a multitenant offering
disabled webtools for a tenant as suggested by Hans, the provider would
presumably still wish to utilise webtools with a main non-tenant admin
login (i.e. tenantId=null).

I can answer my own last question. Entries can be added into the
'component' entity using 'ant load-seed' process.

The first question on data records from the component and tenantcomponent
entities not being visible through webtools still holds however. Does
anyone experience this behaviour?

trying

to learn how to utilise.

What I've found strange is that on attempting to list the values of

these

two entities from webtools, only any record with the ComponentName

equal to

'webtools' is visible. On the other hand, if you log into the database
directly using ij, all the components can be seen using a select

statement

from the 'component' table, and any records entered manually into the
'tenantcomponent' table.

Also, by default, the 'find' screen for both these entities normally

comes

up with the 'ComponentName' field already populated with 'webtools'.
Although the field can be emptied or replace with other component

names,

only the record pertaining to webtools can be returned.

Is this a case of some hard-coding of ComponentName or am I missing
something?

I'm using trunk r1439737 and 12.04 r1435045.

I'm also unclear whether new components should be manually added to the
'component' entity or should this happen automatically.
