[libreoffice-users] RTL text in text form controls
Salam, I try to use LibO as a CRUD application and i'm using both languages Arabic and English for my Data. When designing a form in LibO under Linux/Ubuntu, when i choose the control text direction for the text control, it handles pretty well the RTL language. Doing the same form design under WinXP it always displays text from Left to Right weither you choose RTL or LTR text direction for the text control. Is it a bug that i should file or am i doing it the wrong way ..? Now, for those people who have limited broadband transfer amounts or use dialup, LibreOffice people should develop a list of places where you would be able to buy a DVD. OOo use to have many location, worldwide and in the USA. LibreOffice needs to follow that option. The NA DVD project is nearly ready to publish its first release of a DVD. Why would you need to have one? As for the Documentation List[s], I am already on 4 lists already. Also, I do not know if I will ever contribute to the creation/modification of any LibreOffice documentation, due to my brain injuries. Clear communication can be a problem at times when I deal with typing text. Three strokes will do that to a person. As for the documentation out there, I have the latest versions of the two available guides; Getting Started and Writer. Or at least the ones I find at http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/documentation/; and the WIKI page for documentation. The LibreOffice-NA.US http://libreoffice-na.us/ site is the testing platform for the LibreOffice North American Community DVD Project. Our group is creating DVDs that will service the needs of the following communities; Canadian, US-American, Mexican, and Latin American, including the Hispanic communities. Currently we have our English DVDs 99% ready for publication and are working on the Spanish language version [first draft is 50% +/- done] for those DVDs. The big advantage with our DVDs is the extras. These include as much documentation as we can find. Look at this link to see what we currently have for English; http://libreoffice-na.us/English/documentation.html What we really need now is Spanish language documentation, even if it is just the Getting-Started guide. Also we could use Spanish language extensions/add-ons plus sample files. Right now there is a big void in the Spanish language area of documentation, extensions, templates, artwork, and sample files. THEN we have to do it all over with our French DVDs, that are needed for French-Canada. So the question is what is the advantage of an Alfresco account and being on the documentation list[s]? I am on the Projects list[s], the International Marketing list, the US Marketing list, and the User's list. Would I really need to be on another one if I will not be able to contribute/create/modify the document files? and what about a video documentation? i think that there are people on the community that would like to try doing video learning videos and not a youtube kind of but a more official ones. Eliezer I hope to collect as many videos as possible on the various topics of using LibreOffice. Then with permission, I would like to see a movie DVD made for viewing on a TV or computer. Don't apologize Bruce. This list is made of people who understands the meaning of cooperation.. Some of us are here to teach, others to learn, and others like me to do both things. But what it really worths is the wish to help eachother. I'm a brazilian member of the list. We have our own brazilian lists and we face the same problems here. My English is terrible, but I don´t refuse in helping people if I can. Timi, I'm really sorry if you´re disappointed about the list but the instructions are clear. You could be one to help the people who has some difficulty in getting unsubscribed. My two cents. We could have a direct instruction for those who wants to unsubscribe like. *To remove your subscription just send a blank email to users+unsubscr...@libreoffice.org* Rgds Helmar Fernandes === Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat user www.aquahobby.com www.penguim.net/pocosdecaldas On 29 April 2011 11:18, Bruce Summitt u.nix.t...@gmail.com wrote: On Fri, Apr 29, 2011 at 8:33 AM, t...@iafrica.com wrote: This forum is pathetic. Another problem I have lived not too long ago: I wanted to unsubscribe from one of the list. The confirmation reply came about 2 hours later... except I was sleeping at 1:00 a.m. So I did not reply to the confirm message until the day after. So my unsubscribe command was rejected because I did not reply in a timely manner. Nasty, most lists I've seen usually have a timeout period of two or three days to avoid just that. A two hour (or less) window is ridiculous since SMTP can have delays far longer than that. Welcome improvements would be: – the same command should be used for the Digest and NoMail versions Some mailing list software allows for this (e.g. Mailman and Sympa), but the software used for this list doesn't. – immediate reaction by the server This list does have that from the moment the confirmation is received, as do most lists. – unsubscription should happen ASAP, without any need to confirm. The worst case scenario would be someone who (is) unsubscribed by error: that person would simply need to resubscribe. This would be a *very* bad idea. It is way too simple to spoof an email address and with a configuration like that every single person known to be subscribed (i.e. every person who posts) could be unsubscribed by someone else. As the behaviour of confirmation messages is (usually) global, then the reverse would be true and people could be arbitrarily subscribed by an unknown party. The whole purpose of a confirmation message is to prevent nefarious individuals from making changes to the receipt, or lack thereof, of another person's correspondence. Re: [libreoffice-users] Gun fight at the LibO coral
Hi :) There is more complexity than is obvious here. Timi has asked for help a number of times and not been helped with getting sound working in Impress. He wants to use LO but is blocked and no-one is helping him. He is afraid that he will have to return to MSO because apparently no-one knows how to get sound links working in Impress. Perhaps it can't be done. Perhaps Impress presentations can't have sound at all in any format. This involves a loss of face for him. His work colleagues say he was a fool for trying OpenSource but he has put a lot of time effort into getting it working. Because Impress doesn't work with sound at all (apparently) he has to return to using PowerPoint which is slow. People who advertise OpenSource often claim it is faster and that support is better but to him and his colleagues the opposite has been proven and Timi will suffer for that but so will LO. So far while Timi came here asking for help quite a long time ago now all that the community has done is to either ignore him or attack him, even bully him, but certainly not help him. Our documentation team is very tiny with most of the work being done by only about 4 people. Even in OOo there is very little documentation about Impress but our documentation team is trying to get around to working on it. They do have other, more urgent priorities tho. So, this whole situation, each part of it, is not the fault of any 1 individual but has been an unfortunate combination. Hi :) If the quick test with gifs seems to be fairly good you might be able to clean-up some of the images a bit to remove the wobbly waves that jpg format introduces. Getting back to sharp edges and distinct corners, removing speckling can get file-sizes down a little bit more but the main change happens with the change of format ime. [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 64 bit Impress issues
I have a PowerPoint presentation that runs fine in Libreoffice Impress. If I save it as a odp file it simply will not open. It starts to open then hangs. I was running 3.3.2 If open LibreOffice first and open the odp presentation it runs fine. I have tried downloading and running the latest version 3.3.2 All the files say amd64 and I am running an Intel 5. Same thing happened would not open the odp format. I downloaded and installed it from the synaptic and found that the same thing happened. I find it interesting that when open the About LibreOffice under help does not tell me whether I am running 32bit 64bit LibreOffice. I still have OpenOffice on my 32bit machines and have not tried LibreOffice on them. It seems strange to me that I have more options in Powerpoint format (ppt or pps) and cannot run this presentation on LibreOffice in its native format. -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@libreoffice.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
