Does this program 'office suite pro' produce odt files?

If the answer is yes, this is the correct mailing list to report
errors with the _native_ odf formats.

If the answer is no, go to the program supplier's web site, or m$

The best idea is to create an odt document and tell us if there any errors.

If you want to create m$ formats, contact office suite pro and/or m$.

Hm. Not exactly. In order to "convert" a formula into its result
value, I wouldn´t go to *another* cell but paste special right in
the *same* cell --> that means overwriting the formula by its result
value. ;-)

No. Follow this:

(1) Select the cell that contains the formula

(2) Choose Edit | Copy

(3) Choose Edit | Paste Special

(4) Unselect "Paste all" and unselect "Formulas" and select "Numbers"

(5) Hit "OK"

Done.

[libreoffice-users] Find in 3.4.3

Hi.
I am trying to find (search for) some text in some sheets.
The text appears in many formulae and also as text in cells.
I wish to exclude the formulae from the search.
In Find & Replace > More options > Search in I am able to select
"Values" but the search still finds the text in formulae.

Am I searching wrong?

confidence - has already been betrayed. It doesn't matter what you
promise to do or not to do with the information: if you have it, it is
no longer confidential.

Are we here to debate the notion of the word "confidential" or to try
and help the person with the problem ? I offered my help with a
guarantee that the information revealed to me would remain between
myself and that person. It is not up to me to provide that information
to others, unless I have the authorisation to do so from the initial
discloser. That is the whole point surely ?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Cannot open DOCX file

2011-10-29 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
I still think that Doc as opposed to DocX is the only format that all 3
programs can read/write the same. Just open the existing DocX in either
Android or MS and then

File (or golden orb) - "Save As ... "

and choose something like "older Word 97/2000/Xp"

I would experiment with Odt as it is a superior format, even the older 1.1, but
using it might require changing the defaults for LibreOffice

Tools - Options - "+ Load/Save" - General

In the middle of that page you can change the ODF format to the older one and
at the bottom you can change the defaults from ODF (Odt, Ods, Odp etc) to MS
Office ones (Doc, Xls, Ppt).

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: OO Base will not run in LO Base

2011-10-29 Thread Ian Whitfield

Thanks Alex

Sorry about the 'New Thread' thing - on another Forum I'm on I only have
to change the Subject Line - Now I know!! (Thanks for explaining it to me!!)

A few further questions :
- does the form contain any image fields ?

- does the form contain any boolean fields ?

- is the form based on a joined query (multitable), a view, or just a
simple one table query ?
My Form has approx 70 fields of which 3 are "Picture" fields, (One plain
graphic and two photos) although all records do not have all photos -
some have none or just one. ALL records have a graphic, it is a visual
identification of the Status of the person in each record.

There are no Boolean fields or Macros or anything like that and all the
data comes out of ONE table. However I did experiment at one time by
adding a couple of buttons to do things automatically. ie a button next
to the eMail address to send an eMail to that person. Maybe I should
remove these for now and see if these are causing the problem - what do
you think??

The form saved outside of the database shouldn't contain any personal
data other than that of the user that created it (and only then if you
have filled in those details in the corresponding LO Options screen). Of
course, it will contain references to the fields of the table(s) to
which it originally linked, which you may or may not want to reveal.

If you send me the ODB file in private (alex.thurgood gmail.com), I
can assure you it will remain confidential (I'm an attorney).

I will wait your reply on the above before I send you anything. The
whole .odb file is large (332Mb) but the .odt Form file is much smaller
(16.4Kb).

Regarding the comment by Brian Baker on this "Confidentiality" matter I
must say I don't completely go along with this. Yes - the members have
given me their details "in confidence" with the understanding that it
will not be mis-used. _MY_ concern is that I let it get out into the
hands of Spammers and other such people that results in the Members
getting onto all sorts of Spam Lists and other Malware type situations
resulting from the "loss" of information entrusted to me!! The
information I hold here is available to all and any other member of our
Group but is NOT for general distribution. This is what I'm protecting!!

Thanks again Alex - I really do appreciate your help!

Ian Whitfield.

[libreoffice-users] Re: Base: creating a dropdown field form

2011-10-29 Thread Alex Thurgood

Le 29/10/2011 01:00, The Wolfkin a écrit :

Hi,

I tried using the Getting Started PDF(2) but while that did help me in
creating dropdown menus. I haven't been able to populate it and in their
example it was populated with items from another table. I'm only working
with one table here. I also don't see any way to add new fields. If I wanted
to do that would I have to start over and create a new form?

If you want to add a new field to your form, then you have to open it in
Form Edit mode. In your list of forms in the main ODB window, right
mouse button click on your form and choose Edit (or Modify, I'm not sure
of the exact term, my version of LibO is in French). This should open
the form in Form Edit mode, where you can swap field control parts, add
new fields etc.

If you are adding new fields, then they need to already exist in your
database table first.

As for your dropdown list :
Enter Form Edit mode.
Select your control (possibly having to "Enter Group" first)
Right-mouse button click on the control and choose "Replace with"
Choose Combobox
Now right-mouse button click on your combobox control.
Choose "Control" from the context menu.
In the "List Content Type" choose SQL from the dropdown choices.
In the List Content field, enter :
SELECT "myfield" FROM "mytable", replacing "myfield" with the field you
want the data to be selected from and "mytable" with the table name from
which the data is taken.

Close the Control Properties window.
Save the changes to your form.
Close your form.
Double-click on your form to open it in data edit/entry mode. You should
be able to now select pre-entered data from the dropdown list and
additionally add new data into the same field. Just remember to save
your changes before you close the form again (or just switch to another
record), and the database before you close the ODB file.

[libreoffice-users] Re: How may I read the value of a cell into a macro variable?

Hi David,

This question has two parts: simple and more complex:

simple: I wish to read the value of the currently selected cell (in
Calc, of course) into a variable in the macro language (Libre Basic).
Script example please. and thank you!

I can't answer your question, but if you come from the world of VBA,
this document might be of use :

http://documentation.openoffice.org/HOW_TO/various_topics/VbaStarBasicXref.pdf

more complex: AFAIK the LibreHelp does not document the stuff like:

dispatcher.executeDispatch(document, ".uno:GoToCell", "", 0, args2())

I used to be pretty skilled at recording macros and then modifying them.
Where do I go to find things related to "uno:GoToCell"? Universal
Network Objects? Can't find the "starting point".

Your best bet would probably be to read the API documentation :

http://api.libreoffice.org/

or alternatively the Sun OOo Basic Programming Guide :

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/BASIC_Guide

or buy one of the books on Macro programming :
- OpenOffice.org Macros Explained by Andrew Pitonyak
- Learn Openoffice.Org Spreadsheet Macro Programming by Mark Bain

Hi :)
Tech support often has to deal with confidential information. I would trust
Alex to not spread the info further and also to not take advantage and misuse
the info. There are other people here that i would also trust in this way even
if i disagree with them on other issues.

There is often a conflict between confidentiality/security and productivity.
The only way to make sure stuff remains confidential is to stop using the
database, delete it and wipe all trace of it from any system it has been on.

Ok, errr, forwarding the email back to the list seems to break it out and form

I think we have fixed the problem now so that both threads are ok. I guess i

Yes, you are right - there is a possibility to tune the text options
via the right-click menu, but it doesn't let to change the background
of separate words.

And what seems even more strange to me is that there is a special
button "text highlighting" in LO Writer, but there is no such button in
LO Impress. I thought all the LO programs use the same component
(widget) for text editing and thus should have the same functions, but
now it turns out they don't.
   Is it so?

Yes and no. The texts in Draw/Impress behave similar to the text box
(drawing object with T icon) in Writer. That is different from the
normal text in Writer. Therefore you can define a style only for the
whole object not for single characters. Hard styling is restricted to
font attributes of the tabs 'font' and 'font effect'. If you search in
https://issues.apache.org/ooo/ you will find a lot of issues about the
restriction of text in Draw/Impress.

In Draw/Impress it is no problem to group objects. So for getting a
background, draw a colored rectangle, place it behind the word, and
group all together. That has the additional effect, that you can animate
this 'hightlighting'.

Kind regards
Regina

OK, that's some kind of confusing: Using Ubuntu everything works out of the
box! Where is the difference to other distributions?

The Versions are nearly the same:

Cups:
- OpenSuse: 1.5
- Archlinux: 1.5
- ubuntu: 1.5
Ghostscript
- Opensuse: 9.00
- Archlinux: 9.04
- ubuntu: 9.04
hplip
- Opensuse: 3.11.10
- Archlinux: 3.11.10
- ubuntu: 3.11.7
libreoffice:
- Opensuse: 3.4.2 OOO340m1 (Build: 1206)
- Archlinux: 3.4.3 (build unknown since Archlinux is not installed this moment)
- ubuntu: 3.4.3 OOO340m1 (build 302)

So I go back and install archlinux again to see what happens if I install hplip
3.11.7.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Calc: Converting Formula to Value

2011-10-29 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
So you want a static value instead of a formula? If any of the values that the
formula is based on were to change then the value in the cell would not change.
eg if
A1= 10
B1= 20
and
C1= A1+B1
then the spreadsheet would display C1= 200 but you would still be able to see
the formula in the top entry widget. A printout would not show the formula, it
would just show the value. If you changed the value of A1 to 30 then C1 would
now show the result as being 600.

If you were to set the formula bar (the entry widget) to show the value of C1
as 200 then changing A1 to 30 would have no effect on C1, it would still show
the value 200.

In effect the formula bar / entry widget shows what some people might think of
as coding that lays under the surface of what is being displayed

You can copy&paste an entire column or row as fixed values to another column or
row by using "paste special" and that might be a useful way of seeing if any of
the calculated values change over time.
Regards from
Tom :)

The two pages per sheet issue. You want to have them printed side by
side? Or one page on one side and the second page on the other side of
the sheet? Side by side printed out on a landscape orientation works
well, but it is a printer option. Having the pages printed one on each
side of the sheet is a duplexing issue. I have been having the same
problem with duplexing as well as others.

side by side printing
Print > Page Layout > Pages per sheet.
2 will print two page side by side.
IT works fine for me. I prefer to have the option of bordering the
pages, since it looks better to me.

For duplex printing, I have to print it out as a PDF document and print
it with the document viewer with the duplex option, instead of printing
it directly through LO. LO just does not "see" or adjust the duplex
option on my Epson Artisan printer properly.

CUPS-PDF - no package for OpenSUSE? I

wondered what OpenSUSE uses as a replacement package, so I
looked it up on the site.

On the opensuse.org site, 12.1 is in RC till November

package files [depending on the computer] for
cups-pdf-2.5.1-1.1

If I read the site correctly, 12.1 is the

"opensuse/factory" development version since it still is in
development till November 16th. So the search for the
cups pdf package in that and the other version come up with
a .rpm file to download and install it. So it should
be in the OpenSUSE version of a repository.

I bought it with the OS, and everything else, wiped off the

Do not get me wrong, OpenSUSE might be a great Linux

[libreoffice-users] frame positioning

Readers,

An a4 page is formatted to landscape with two columns (in effect
creating a5 columns).

When creating a frame, how to specify using the dialogue window that
the frame should appear in the centre (with respect to vertical and

Thanks.

RE: [libreoffice-users] LO Conflicts with OOo

2011-10-29 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
It makes perfect sense that OOo and LO could be installed side by side and also
run at the same time.

The problem is that they all lay claim to the same program names, library
names, and probably registry settings.

(The use of the same program names is why Windows, for example, can't have Open
With ... for both
LO, and OOo on the association of programs with file extensions, such as .odt
and .ods. (But one can
add Open With ... Microsoft Word, WinZip, etc. Different versions of the same
product are harder for Windows to distinguish with Open With ..., absent some
creative work on the part of the producers of those product versions.)

Now that there are different lineages progressing from a common OO.o 3.2-or-so
base, there needs to be a way to avoid collisions with parallel efforts and the
common past versions.

For users, all of their choices should work. Running a portable version should
work. Having user accounts with different versions should work, etc. I
suspect that these cases have simply not been dealt with systematically,
although clearly there has been some attention to it. And if it is by design to
not all concurrent operation, I would expect gentle handling when an user
violates that constraint.

(I have no recommendation on what installs are on top of what previous versions
of the same product. It may be a little too course-grained that any LO 3.y will
replace any LO 3.x where x < y, although that is a second-order problem. It is
good that LO 3.y does not replace OOo 3.x, and vice versa.)

RE: [libreoffice-users] DOCX file from Android Office Suite will not open

2011-10-29 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
Hi Pete,

When LO/OOo pops up a text filter it is usually because the format of the
incoming file is not recognizable, no matter how it happens to be named
(.docx, etc.).

This happens if an incoming .docx file is encrypted, for example.

If you send the file to me, I can look at its innards to see why it isn't
being recognized properly.

Hi,

I created a file with the Android app "Office Suite Pro" and I cannot
open it with Libre Writer.

It pops up a "filter" menu with types of files in randow order (can I
file a bug report or a fix request on that?) and none of them are
"Windows Office 2010 docx file".

FWIW, the first 10 bytes of the file are the same as other docx files
that LO is able to open.

Any ideas (other than asking on an Office Suite mailing list)?

Thanks.

RE: [libreoffice-users] Calc: Converting Formula to Value

Or, you can open it (an .ods) in Microsoft Office 2007/2010, and save it back.
That will leave the values and strip the formulas from the cells [;<). It
might work to save as .xslx and then reopen it in LO too, but I haven't tried

Here is where I think we're getting mixed up. The contents of the combobox.
I want the contents of the ComboBox to be "Singstar 80s", "Singstar 90s",
"Singstar Amped" that's it. I don't want to fill it is the contents of
another table or field. I just want to enter in a choices literally. This is

That was actually more of a restatement of your problem then an attempt at a

Anchor your frame to paragraph, or to character.
Horizontal position to center, and to paragraph area
Vertical position to center, and to entire page

Hi. Does this mean that if you fill a bit of a column with
=IF(E615="PMT TO Lex",G615,0)

Then you can Find (search) for "Lex" so that you do not find it in the
formulae.

Printer Properties: Duplex On

I've found it easier to set up different printer profiles for the same
printer. Example:

WorkForce635BW - Black & White mode (default printer to save color ink)
WorkForce635BWDuplex - as above but with duplex turned on
WorkForce635Color - standard color mode
WorkForce635Photo - color mode w/photo options set

An a4 page is formatted to landscape with two columns (in effect

When creating a frame, how to specify using the dialogue window that
the frame should appear in the centre (with respect to vertical and
horizontal) of a column, not to a page or paragraph?

If I understand your question correct, I would say tab Type, position
Horizontal: Middle to Paragraph area and Vertical: Centred to text area.

Is that your wish?

Hmm, interesting. On a desktop OS you can usually right-click on a file, go

RE: [libreoffice-users] DOCX file from Android Office Suite will not open

2011-10-29 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
First, rough-screening test results:

The newtext.docx file that was produced with the Mobi Office Suite works as
follows:
LO 3.3.2 fails to open it, reporting a general input-output error.
Word 2010 opens it just fine.

I modified the document in Word 2010 by adding a sentence to it and saving that
as a new file.
LO 3.3.2 opens the modified document just fine.

Inspection of Zip structure of the two documents reveals that the version saved
by Word 2010 has two more files, a docProps/app.xml file and a
word/StylesWithEffects.xml file.

There is no obvious difference at this high level to indicate how the document
failed to be recognized as an OOXML WordDocumentML document by LO.

It is also possible that the difference is in the Zip encoding in some way in
which Word 2010 is forgiving and LO is not. The failure to recognize what the
document is appears to happen at a very immediate level in LO access to the
file.

More detailed examination is required.

Thanks.

I may have confused you.

I've opened OfficeSuite (technically it's MobiSystems OfficeSuite Pro on
an Android phone) and I see a list of files. I select the ODT one. I get
the error message below.

If I use a file manager, I select the ODT file and get "File type ODT
not found".

You can run the programs the same time, if each instance uses a
different folder for the user settings. Also the other way round is
possible, running one application with different users settings at the
same time, again different folders for the user settings are needed.

Only the association between document type and program is unique.

Kind regards

If the contents of the combobox isn't a property of your list of
tracks/discs/whatever, what use is it? If it's something to do with your data,
then it's got to be in your data. If it's in your data, pull it out and
populate the combobox with it. If it isn't in your data, even if you type it
in
manually, how are you going to use it?

At a wild guess, you've got codes in your data representing these categories.
If that's the case, create a lookup table and put your code/text
correspondences
in there.

Or have I guessed wrong?

Is my only option to create a new table with the list of discs and then
populate the dropdown using that? There has to be a way to just type in the
items I want in the dropdown.

OK, I hear you. Replace the Combobox by a list box.
In the properties of the control, on the first tab, you should see an
entry callled List Entries.
Enter your list, typing each one and then pressing Shift+Return to move
to the next line of your list. When you click outside of the property
field, you will notice that the list has been created with each entry
between double quotes, separated by a semi-colon.

Close the properties window and save your form. When you open it up in
edit mode, you will see the list that you had entered as a dropdown
list, choosing one of the entries will select it, and this will be
written to the underlying table when you either save the record or move
to next one.

Do you have mythes-* (e.g. mythes-en-us) package installed? You can install it
using your package manager (I believe that in Ubuntu, which you are probably
using, it is called software-center).

That is still a *serious* issue. Please see:

and in particular:

You can of course find the thread in the .dev list under "Change
executable/sh names".

The issue seems to have fallen on deaf ears following that thread. Seems
to me that with all the thousands of lines of code 'clean-up' reported
by TDF dev, the actual program .exe's could have been renamed from
swriter to lowriter et al or similar by now.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Printing in reverse order so page one ends up on top

No matter how I try to set the options, I cannot get my Epson Artisan to
print duplex withing LO. It just does not want to do it. Right now I
am having head clogging issues which may be a hardware malfunction, so
solving the duplex printing issues is the least of my worries. I may
have to ship it back to Epson for head replacement.

I use to create several version of my printers when I was using Win XP.
Color vs B&W vs Draft mode. I do not do that with Ubuntu right now.
Maybe later. I already have Artisan - network, Artisan - USB, HP
PSC1410, HP Color laserjet 2600n, and the Generic-CUPS-PDF-printer
[default]. Plus "print to file" which I never have used before using
Linux OS. I once an awhile click on the Artisan - USB printer instead
of the network version. I do not use the USB version except when I have
a really large file [heavy in graphics] to print. I have to do that
with the color laser, but I have not plugged it into the Ubuntu desktop
system "yet" since I re-installed the OS from scratch when I needed to
re-partition my 1-TB drive to wipe out the other boot-partitions on it,
when I finally added a 2-TB data drive and could save all the
files/data/email-"stuff"/etc. to the new data drive. I kept "adding
partitions" every time I had to re-install Ubuntu when I had boot issues
with 11.04 and other issues that crashed the Ubuntu install I was
using. I had to split the drive into more partitions so I could save
the data from my old install when I reinstalled the OS. Now I have a
2-TB data drive, I do not need to do that. Actually I have 1.5 TB used
on that data drive and 300 GB used on the 1-TB main drive. [Plus my 1-TB
external stuffed with less than 50 GB left. ]

Well that ended up way off topic.

Actually, it may be that your printer might not work with all its
options withing LO. My Epson has a duplex feature, but LO seems not to
be able to set that feature's control to turn it on.

...

Printer Properties: Duplex On

I've found it easier to set up different printer profiles for the same
printer. Example:

WorkForce635BW - Black& White mode (default printer to save color ink)
WorkForce635BWDuplex - as above but with duplex turned on
WorkForce635Color - standard color mode
WorkForce635Photo - color mode w/photo options set

Re: [libreoffice-users] Writer Thesaurus

2011-10-29 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

Thesaurus is grayed out where? In LO? or the external one?
Artha is a good external Thesaurus and Dictionary that I am running on
Ubuntu 10.04.

Install this dictionary/hyphen/thesaurus .oxt file.

http://libreoffice-na.us/English-3.4-installs/add-on-dictionaries-large-list/English_dict__with_fixed_dash_handling2010-03-15.oxt

Also try this Language Tool. Actually it is not the newest one.
http://libreoffice-na.us/English-3.4-installs/add-ons-extensions/LanguageTool-1.2.oxt
This tool helps with dictionary and thesaurus functions, but you need to
have Java installed to use it.

If you have installed both .oxt files and you still have the Thesaurus
option grayed out, then there is something wrong with the LO install, or
somehow 11.xx has some problems with their internal dictionary system;
or so I have been told that LO might use the MySpell/Hunspell, or other
internal dictionary system. I have hunspell for en-US, but myspell for
-en-gb, en-au, -en-za, and a few others. I also have the
"libreoffice3-dict-en", libreoffice3.4-dict-en" packages installed. It
seems I have a lot of packages names with both 3.3 and 3.4 version. I
wonder if you installed the "openoffice.org-thesaurus-en-us" package [if
it is shown in the Synaptic Package Manager for 11.xx] would help at all?

To be honest, there have been some weird issues with the
dictionary/thesaurus running LO 3.4.x on Ubuntu 11.xx and the default
Unity desktop manager.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: LO Conflicts with OOo

Hi :)
I think it's going to be easier to do something quite radical AFTER code
clean-up is almost done. Surely it's got to be done to the entire code-base
all at once and all the libraries and all have to be changed at the same time?
I don't think it's a trivial thing to fix.
Regards from
Tom :)
