SMS Concatenation for SMPP

2005-04-25 Thread Ismail Adebayo
Hi all

I just installed kannel 1.4.0 on Linux Red Hat ES and want to use it as smsc
with smpp connections to operators.

a) Does kannel 1.4.0 support long text sms (concatenation) for sending and
receiving?

b) I want kannel to receive sms and forward it to our http server. Without
sending any response back to sender.

How do I achieve (a) and (b) above?

Thanks for your assistance.

Ismail

Kannel doesn't act like a SMSC, it's SMS GW. But yes, you can connect it
to operators SMSC by using SMPP protocol.

Yes.
b) I want kannel to receive sms and forward it to our http server. Without

Yes, please read the user manual, it explains pretty good all your issues.

Dig deeper the list arch, there are some answers for your question. Im sure
it can help you. Or maybe you can find some examples codes in your kannel's

re send SMS

Hello All,

    I’ve
been having some troubles with the throttling feature (it does not seem to
work, do I need a patch or something?? Running kannel.1.4.0..)
so at one point one SMPP connection starts sending
over the “Message Queue Full” , and kannel
seems to keep trying and trying and trying to resend the SMS rendering that
connection useless. Is there a way to tell Kannel to
give up on that SMS after a certain time? Can anyone please help me with the
throttling feature? Has anyone had any luck using it??

Thank you!

Hi Alejandro,
If you get "message queue full" it means that your throttling value is
still big. Talk to your operator and ask how many messages do they accept
per second. Reduce it further until you see no more of these. BUT if your
queue becomes so large that messages are delayed, the problem is in the
SMSC, not in Kannel.

I use throttling in more than one SMPP connection and it seems to work
just fine.

2005-04-25 Thread Ismail Adebayo
Hi Aarno

Thanks. The max-meesage=0 woks. but I am still having problem receiving
concatenated (long) message through my smpp smsc.

When I receive long text, they are received as separate short messages.
Kannel does not reassemble the message. Hence I can process only the 1st
part that has the keyword. I have tried all config options but no success.

Thanks.

I don't know if Kannel accepts decimal values in here... only integers. Try
1 msg/sec (which is a very LOW value for any SMSC I have heard of). I think
any small decimal value will set this variable to 'unlimited'.

from smscconn.c source code:
   if (cfg_get_integer(&throughput, grp, octstr_imm("throughput")) == -1)
   conn->throughput = 0;   /* defaults to no throughtput limitation */
   else
   conn->throughput = (int) throughput;

so we are bound to use the gw present in GGSN and we can't use any other
gateway ?

I thought that a GPRS APN has open internet access so we can configure the
IP address of any gateway(in our mobile) ?

Thanks
Yasser

That is more like a problem of GPRS, because wap gw is a part of GGSN.
CSD would usually work, and is not much slower either (strange but true).

Yes , you are right it won't be a simulation than ..
I have a GPRS enabled phone in which for WAP I use the WAP gateway
address provided by my cellular provider, so if I change this address to
the address of my gateway than I suppose I will be able to showing the
working of kannel on a mobile phone ? (Please correct me If I am wrong)

But do mobile operators allow connections to gateways others than theirs
?

Thanks

This would not be a simulation, but a real thing, would it ?

Hi,
I want to simulate the working of Kannel WAP gateway ?
I have found one method here
http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/library/wi- kannelwap.html?
ca=dgr-lnxw09WAPLinux

Which says that
"Testing with a WAP-enabled mobile phone simulator
You need two machines, one running a Windows® operating
system, and the other the Linux gateway, preferably connected through a
LAN. The Linux machine must be connected to the Internet, either
directly or indirectly.
You can use the Nokia 7210 Content Authoring SDK which is available
for a Windows system.
Install it in a Windows system.
Do a little configuring and set the gateway address to the IP address
of
the Linux machine running the gateway.
Now type any Web site address serving WML pages from the simulator and
you are done!"

Is there a way by which I can show the working of kannel wap gateway
on a MOBILE phone ?

Thanks
