If you are in Writer, look to the bottom right where there are three
page representations. The left one is single page view (which you want),
the second one is multiple page view, and the third one is book view.
Click the single page view.

If you are in Calc, you cant. At least as far as I know or have been
shown you cant. Its not an efficient use of space.

If you are in Writer, it sounds like you could be in preview mode.
Though I didnt think you could edit in print preview.

The majority of the problems reported recently regarding running OpenOffice on

Ros, I don't frequently have access to Macs so please forgive if these
suggestions are off the mark.

Are you able to download other DMG files from other sites but not the
OpenOffice DMG? If yes, check if your antivirus/malware is blocking the
download.

And... if antivirus/malware is blocking the download, is the download being
attempted from the official site? https://www.openoffice.org If not using
the official site, please use it instead of the one you are using.

Katherine had a question about apparently disappearing files when she tried
to load a history manager onto her OO installation.

Jan, who's first language is not English, graciously tried to help by
recommending a program called "recuva" to recover the missing files. The
phrase "dwn @piriform.com" which Jan used is not an e mail address per se.
It is a contraction of the phrase "download at piriform.com". Its a set
of directions to a web site, not an E mail address.

Similarly, Jan's use of the word "taste" is a stand in for "try". Remember
Jan is a non native English speaker, who is doing his best to try to help
out Katherine with a question Katherine asked.

I appreciate an's attempts to help Katherine and admire Jan's plunging into
the vaguries of American English to do so. Jan's efforts in a second
language, American English, are a heck of a lot better than mu feeble
attempts at French, which passes for my second language.

Please cut Jan some slackl

The documents are present in the directory in which they were originally saved.
The History Manager may have erased the shortcuts to them, or been set to show
no recent documents. You should check the History Manager settings and switch
it to 10 or more documents. That may remember the shortcuts to your existing
documents. You should in any case be able to /File /Open , navigate to to the
save directory and individually select and open each file.

If you are in doubt, seek help from someone with more advanced computer
knowledge.

What does this have to do with the subject line? This is called thread
hijacking and can really screw up an archive search. Please start a new
thread. BTW changing the subject doesn't start a new thread. You have to
post a new message.

To answer your question, are you sure you downloaded the windows version
of OO? If so, it will run on almost any computer you can name, including
Dell. It might be wise to run a search on "Open Office" and "Windows 10"
to make sure it will run on W10.

It is not possible to figure out what the problem is without more information.

 1. What operating system and version are you using?
 2. What is the version of OpenOffice Writer you are using. (Open it and look
in the Help | About dialog.)
 3. What is the name on the file that is not opening properly.

More can be determined once these questions are answered.

If you are using Windows, a good emergency strategy is to try another
set of OpenOffice. If yu have a SD card or USB memory dongle, you can
install Portable OpenOffice. This will completely be separated from
whatever nefarious stuff might be on your computer.

Portable OpenOffice install to your USB memory making it able to run
from any computer from the same Operating system and would be as easy
as double click on the program there.

Please download it from our porting site:

 Hello OO Users,

I need help. Yesterday, since my Open Office was apparently a victim of
computer gremlins, I uninstalled, rebooted, installed latest version,
 rebooted and solved that problem.

NOW I’m getting an error message when trying to open all previous OO
documents which says: “The requested operation requires elevation”.

I would not worry about it except every business related document I have is
in OO. I can’t process orders until this is resolved. Any help would be
 greatly appreciated.

 Thank you,

 Chris

As far as I remember, you have to right click on the OpenOffice document (or is
it the OO Application itself? - I'm not sure) and select Run as
Administrator. This is a Windows message, not originating from OpenOffice, to
do with execute rights for files. If my above advice doesn't work, query a
Windows help site.

It should not be necessary to run OO as admin. My main Windows account
is a regular user and on Linux, running apps such as this as root is
almost unheard of.
